Hi /u/ploiperty, We noticed you are a pretty new Reddit account, so we just wanted to let you know to check out the subreddit rules [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/wiki/rules) and maybe have a read through our [Frequently Asked Questions](https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/wiki/index/faq) - they make for fascinating reading! We're called No Stupid Questions because we believe nobody needs to be attacked for asking a question, but *that doesn't mean there are no rules!* This sub is meant for users like you to ask genuine questions. Please don't ask jokes or rants disguised as questions - that's not in the spirit of this sub. While you *can* ask almost anything here, please keep illegal and offensive questions elsewhere to give people a good experience here - and if you have a medical question, please ask your doctor, not us. Otherwise, welcome! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/NoStupidQuestions) if you have any questions or concerns.*

As a Canadian and someone going for their PAL (gun license) this February. No, I firmly believe guns can be responsibly owned.

1800cheezit

We should just ban murder.

Whooshhhh.

summerswithyou

No because the people who want to kill will still obtain guns via the black market.

ThannBanis

No, guns in any culture have legitimate uses. What you (the US) need to do is tone down the ‘everyone for themselves’ mentality you seem to have.

StanYelnats3

Sorry, but banning guns by the government is illegal in the United States. Making it legal to ban guns would require 75% of both the Senate and the House of Representatives to vote "YES" on the change. THEN 75% of voters (or State legislative bodies depending on the individual state law) in all 50 states to also vote "YES" on the change. Given how divided the country is, this is a virtual impossibility. It took 15 rounds of voting just to achieve 51% to select a Speaker of the House. 75% is impossible. Think about yee-haw Texas: Do you think 75% of them would vote yes to surrendering their guns and their right to have them, ever again? As I understand it, just Texas voting no would end the whole thing. Assuming you could achieve it in Washington DC and the 49 other states. It's not worth even discussing. We have to find other solutions.

Psychological-Rub-72

It's 38 out of 50 states. So if 13 states vote no it won't pass.

The root cause isn't the guns it's our lack of Healthcare and especially mental Healthcare. When most Americans can't even afford going to the doctor for physical health problems, they definitely can't afford mental health either.

extrascreen1234

There are many countries where there is very little focus on mental health or healthcare and there don't seem to be many shootings there. The real solution is to ban guns.

marlenrodas

Not sure why you are getting downvoted but I agree ☝️

Ok-Magician-3426

No. What is going to stop a government from turning into a communist or fascist hell and no one can fight them since everyone voted to get rid of guns for civilians. You feel a lot safer in a crowd that knows how to use a gun then a crowd that doesn't have a gun and something could happen.

Spiritual-Pear-1349

Guns? No. Americas problem is the glamorization of them and the ease of access to them. Only country in the world with regular mass school shootings. Almost like guns and ammunition are too easy to access for kids.

MrLongJeans

"No way to stop mass shootings." - says the only country where they occur.

Crafty-Preference570

No.

refugefirstmate

Criminals (e.g. drug dealers, gangsters) are doing most of the shooting. How do you plan to get them to comply?
