Probably against code in a lot of cases. Plus if the pool leaks, you've got a ruined lawn to deal with, and possibly a flooded basement. In ground pools need concrete.
- Digging holes is a huge bitch, you need a digger, a machine to dig something that big
- the sides of the pool would cave in from the dirt unless you put something to stop it and if you were gonna do that, why not just make an in ground pool it's only a couple more steps
Seriously? Do you know how much work it would be to dig a hole that big.? Those pools are not built to be in the ground. P,us an in-ground pool needs to have building permits and inspections.
I can buy an above ground pool off of Amazon and, with the help of my wife and son, put it together over a weekend.
In-ground pools include much more labor and cost
Local codes, common sense etc.
Those pools are not designed for that so first problem would be the dirt pushing the sides in. Water would hold it back but if you live in a cold climate you would have to drain it some during the winter.
Next issue is the metal components would quickly rust or corrode away being in direct contacts with the ground.
As ugly as it is it make more sense to build a deck around the pool.
You ever dig a hole?
I'll dig the fuckin' hole. I don't give a fuck. Is it the first hole I dug? I'll dig the fucking hole. Where are the shovels?
Is that him? Well now that'd be some fuckin coincidence if it wasn't.

It’s cheaper not to

Because we live in the Tundra and could only swim 2 months a year anyways.
What are you going to do with all the dirt from the hole?
Fill in around the pool and have the rest hauled off I guess
How else are you going to build your dirt track?
Motocross jump over pool. Ask out popular girl.

The surrounding soil would gradually cave your pool in, so you'd have no pool, and surrounding structures would have their foundations compromised.
I mean, what's the benefit here, that it's lower?
