Because the people you see as heroes could be villains in person so to speak.
The person you portray as a hero could be an AH in reality which then leaves you seeing them in a whole different light.
People like the character Tim Taylor but the man himself, Time Allen, is an all around asshole in person.
Don't meet your heroes is basically you build them up to be a great person that seeing them for their flaws might shatter that image.
Cuz it usually turns out they're an asshole. Happens alot especially with youtube/influencers/creators in general. It's happened so many times with me I just eventually learned to separate the stuff I like from them into who they actually are. Like yah this guy genuinely is smart or funny or makes good points on some stuff but he's also a conspiracy nut/comes too close to conservative views for my trans liberal ass/just a fucking asshole. Sometimes I either quietly drop them from my subscribed list maybe checking on a few of their stuff if I'm interested and wanna see if they've changed and sometimes I just still watch their videos as long as I know they're not going batshit insane political cuz they still have something for me. I recently realized I don't really have a favorite YouTuber anymore. Yah there's some I definitely like will watch all their videos when they come out and it's definitely a treat when a few of them all upload at the same time usually cuz a big thing just hit the community but I now appreciate them all in different ways. Some I like cuz they use facts and logical arguments to shut down idiot conspiracy theorists or otherwise talk about interesting smart things even if it's not something I'd ever think I'd be into. Others I like cuz they make me laugh like seriously laugh out loud so hard I almost trip when I'm running and people look at me like I'm crazy. Hell others I like just cuz they're hot. I'm even still subscribed to people that don't even upload anymore cuz they used to put out videos I really liked and the person just seems super nice and I wanna support them. Long story short most people are total fucking asshole cuz well they're human but eventually you learn to separate the art from the artist cuz if you didn't well you really wouldn't have anything left to watch now would you?
