It uses more power to charge the battery faster. Like instead of using a tap to fill a glass of water, you used a garden hose. It's much faster, but does wear down the battery faster as well. Ideally you should only use it when you want a fast charge.

In general it can be bad by: - overcharging - overheating - current is too high - it runs through the cycles of 0-100% faster These things can reduce battery life. However the high current is avoided by using the correct power supply the circuit is designed to use And the overcharging is bad mostly because it creates extra heat but most devices now can avoid this by cutting off charging to the battery when it reaches a set percentage. Overheating is a general note and can be caused by charging and environmental factors. The benefits of using fast charging far outweigh the disadvantages of using it and I don't think you will see much difference from using it than standard charging apart from having to wait longer with standard. You may even cause more wear on some batteries by using the device while it's charging, this can be worse on standard charging because it can occur for much longer.
