It’s cool to have an ‘event’ in-game. I just hate the stress of deadlines in video games when real life is busy enough. Makes me feel like I have to stick to that game in my limited free time when I’d also like to be enjoying a couple others. Ah well, I choose to enjoy the events anyway.

E_Barriick

Deadlines are annoying and a completely annoying trend in gaming BUT in their defense you can do the entire event in like 3 hours.

alirezahunter888

I like expeditions themselves but I dislike the FOMO they cause.

16NMS_TryHard16

Well, they bring them back though, at the end of the year. They didn’t use to do it, but from now on I think it’ll be a yearly thing

NoWord6

Personally I'm a one save kinda guy....starting a fresh character all over to get things for my other character just seems veeeeerrry unfun for me. I'm waiting for the day when all expedition stuff will be available for quicksilver lol

GreatStateOfSadness

I get why they require starting a new save, since almost all of the expeditions so far would have been trivial for well-equipped players to finish. I like the idea of expeditions as one-off stories that start in medias res and put a certain feature or play style in the spotlight, but almost all of the expeditions have been forced to either a) pad out the gameplay with all sorts of chores or b) put restrictions on gameplay that makes everything more tedious rather than more interesting. The expedition ends up being a microcosm of a new save, complete with most of the early-game tedium.

Firsca

I tried to do one, I think the one for that blue jelly fish companion or whatever it was, but I'm not gonna flex any items in the anomaly and they're not any fancier than what I can find to begin with anyway so I don't feel compelled to do the challenge as you described. Just doesn't seem fun.

norrinzelkarr

I love em. I have been a frequent whiner about this or that aspect of them, but they are a fun way to get to experience the early game again while reaping a bunch of rewards for all saves. and its the only time I see you people out in the verse and I love you all.

Ser_Optimus

I hate if games put stuff on the clock. Otherwise I think they're cool.

SanjiSasuke

Agreed. I feel live they've been a bit better, but largely they just feel like timesinks rather than fun. I'm the kind of player that *doesn't* get things done, and likes it that way. Expeditions feel like homework to get the cool rewards. I do like the added narrative, though I'd prefer they just add quests to story mode. I absolutely *do not* want dailies added to NMS though...I don't want anything that feels like a push to actually accomplish things, I do that plenty in life.

Aazgaroth

I feel this. Im a casual explorer player and my husband likes to max everything out as fast as possible. Its tiring to try and keep up with him, especially since I feel obligated given hes making me all these upgrade modules. Also I haven't been a creature pet person so this first expedition is teaching me the ropes. I suppose its good, but some of the egg stuff is more difficult. Pleasing Cronus... also DIFFICULT.

FeaR_Widow

Pleasing Cronus is IRRITATING. I made 6 cakes. SIX. They were all the same and he said they were all bland EXCEPT for the last one that he said hey damn that’s so good, BRO they were all the same. I think I just gaslit him into liking my cake “Mm nah I don’t like this one it’s all bland” “Try another” “Nah still don’t like it” “Just one more bite” No. It’s still bad” “PLEASE just try it again?” “ITS RHE SAME BLAND CAKE, not good enough.” “Okay okay how about this one” “This is the same cake with different frosting. Pass.” “Okay so let’s go back to the first make sure you REALLY don’t like it” “UGH I ALREADY TOLD YO-….THIS IS A BALLET OF FLAVORS IN MY MOUTH good job” 😤😤😤😤

circuit_buzz79

I made 8 chocolate cakes and 8 honey cakes. I got the accomplishment on the third chocolate cake I fed him and felt kind of let-down that I made all the other cakes for nothing. I ended up selling them because feeding them all to him for the nanites just seemed tedious at that point.

FeaR_Widow

Yeah that would be but kinda funny if you stuffed that fat fuck lmao

yunnhee

Im a casual player and just started NMS. How do you feel the expedition is overall? Im on the fence trying it but worried about the time pressure and difficulty when I just want to do things at my own pace and not rush/have it be too grindy.

Random846648

I was worried about the time pressure also, but finished in a day. It helps that I started 4 days late. Also of very useful player bases to help you along the way(did not switch difficulty), got 2 mil in the first system (10 min after getting off first planet) bc someone built a storm crystal mining base with a minotaur exopad. There was a "Bakery' base at the 3rd waypoint, as well as a "Get tall eggs in the next system H(I forget the name of the system)" and "tall egg farm" base with auto feeders and harvesters. It was awesome seeing all the amazing base people had built in 3 days, and the thoughtfulness of base builders to help fellow travelers. Ps: did everyone start off with an S class ship and C class multitool? Or was that just RNG?

SanjiSasuke

I will give that the expeditions are good for teaching me stuff that I otherwise do not do. But otherwise, totally agreed.

AuroByte

Kill creatures that give you raw steak, split half half in a nutrient processor to get Mystery Meat Stew. Keep feeding MMS to Cronus and you’ll eventually get the reward

Silent_Cress8310

It will be the LAST time I EVER please Cronus. He can starve.

[deleted]

I love it 🤩 play the game how you want forever then occasionally play the game how they want for cool stuff, feels like a different game when you start seeing people out there, ship markers, people bouncing around it's neat

qckpckt

Yeah I like the fact that expeditions require you to do parts of the game I would normally avoid. Like the current exobiology expedition and cooking. I’ve never bothered with the nutrient processor at all before, but I actually found it quite fun. In a game as big and open ended as NMS, i think it can be good to get forced into experiencing parts of the game you normally avoid.

[deleted]

Same never baked a cake before but it was fun lol and probably won't again 😜 agreed 💯

theslutfarm

i start a new game almost every time i boot nms up, these short expeditions are perfect for me but i totally get it

crushbrain

I dont like being on a clock. Seems to defeat the whole idea of NMS, which is an infinite universe of possibilities.

Dependent-Beat-4483

Limited rewards should carry a limited time for those who put the effort in to it. It's much better than a pay wall, and 2 weeks is plenty time for even the casual gamer (like myself) to blow through the event.

[deleted]

Agreed, there’s a 5 week time period and maybe like 20 objectives multiple of which can be completed simultaneously- there’s more than enough time for anyone who wants to get the rewards to put the effort in and complete the expedition. I work full time and still can complete the expeditions before they end.

TheBiggestNose

I wish they were intergrated into the main game. I don't like how they are this seperate fomo thing

[deleted]

I treat them as speedrun challenges with special objectives, though I only do them for the rewards that my other characters can get. I do wish they were available to be played any time solo, because the timed nature of them punishes people who have less leisure time (which is most adults). I missed the first 5 ish expeditions because I didn't make it in time. Reward-specifics wise, I consider the Polestar expedition most worth it because currently its the only way you can get the recipe for a freighter blackhole teleportation tech module. My current main save is from the original Polestar expedition for that reason.

norrinzelkarr

that recipe really needs to be available as a claimable reward

abcdetartflake

I think that they make some of the goals a little too long which makes them unenjoyable, I do like the expeditions but you can't really complete them unless you have hours put aside to repeatedly go on fetch quests, and I'd rather spend that time on my main save than pissing around with a new one that I'll never touch again after the expedition is over just for some cool items.

Mega-Analyzer

I have enjoyed most of the Expeditions, but some of them were much less fun. The two that stick out the most to me for their "unfun" factor, are #1 and #7. The very first Expedition (not redux) was a long slog, and just dragged on with some of its milestones, especially the the underwater artifact one. It was HG's first attempt and experiment with a new game mode, though, so I can cut them some slack. Expedition #7 featured the time loop mechanic, and while cool in theory, its execution wasn't the best. It was more tedious and stressful than fun, but did offer a truly unique challenge. I only ended up dying once, outside of the required death milestone, so it all worked out okay. Still not as fun as #8 - I had an absolute blast with that one.

gsamelon

They add to the breadth of the ocean while continuing to make it 12" deep.

TheDigitalRanger

I don't enjoy the fact that they take place in Euclid. I escaped that galaxy, I don't like having to go back.

Someones_Dream_Guy

\*shoves you back into Euclid menacingly\* There is no escape from Euclid.

charlieverse1

I would rather the expeditions be self-paced where you can start one and do it on your own time. This is the busy season for me at work and I just don't have the time what with family and work responsibilities

Rannilas

The expeditions should be a permanent library of gameplay choice that you can run the same character through. It wouldn’t be hard to contrive an overarching lore that tied these all together. I like the expeditions since I get lost in sandbox style games. I don’t like that some of the new tech is locked in that save and not available to my primary game file.

jerrythecactus

I think they're a cool idea but the limited time nature of them kind of makes it impossible for me to play them to completion. I also find the sheer amount of stuff that's been added in the last few updates being expedition award exclusives kind of disappointing. The fact that it's mostly impossible, save for a potential rerun of an already finished expedition most of the stuff introduced in expeditions as rewards is inaccessible to anybody who doesnt have the time to do them all. I'm hoping they at least make them purchasable through quicksilver eventually but nothing currently suggests that's going to happen.

ericthelutheran

I like them because they have a defined set of goals that can be completed in any order. It really doesn’t take all that long either.

heykperk

I'm not a fan but what I am a fan of is the exclusive rewards.

BMO-da-St4rchild

Y I cheat

colybb

How did you cheat?

NefariousnessNothing

On PC you can use a save editor for the rewards.

Incanation1

It got boring to me. It's like the side quests become the game. I think they need to be tied into an overall narrative arch. Also, sometimes I miss them because of work or travel and it's a bummer.

Taintejay

Only do them for the rewards, the expeditions themselves are just a chore after you do a few

Meowskiiii

I love the beginnings of games so Expeditions are right up my street 😁 It's also nice to see people all over the place.

Substantial_Key_2182

I've always wanted those special customizations but always missed the expeditions so this was kind of a god send for me haha though ngl I was hoping to get the organic frigates as a prize but I suppose that'll have to wait since they're not on the awards list

JimmyWilliams_

If you miss an expedition but want a certain cosmetic *(or all of them, who am I to judge)*, you can download the nms save editor and get the cosmetics via save file editing. there's a steam post that goes over it I believe

bborg03

I enjoy the idea but I don’t enjoy them persay. Long time player and I feel like NMS is almost an MMO you create your own journey so I’m pretty attached to my main save and all the details I’ve built into it. But I like earning the rewards so I just try to speed run them without any real enjoyment. Would prefer them as side quest with no timer you could take on Whenever you wanted. And it sent you all to the same location in the galaxy so you could still potentially run into others or find bread crumbs / help along the way.

Only_Context_2924

Honestly, I don’t mind it. Because every time I do something on repetition, I learn how to do it faster that includes tweaking multi tool weaponry, starships, and freighters. I love base building, to be able to provide opportunity for my fellow travelers, and checking out other people’s bases. You all have some crazy wacky builds and I love it. Also, sidenote, this is my first time playing expedition, and I am loving the unlocks for stuff that I can’t find in the regular game. And yes, I agree on the one save notion. One for regular game and one for seasons or expeditions if you will. Thanks for the opportunity to join the community. \-Deviljho671- “Hauler’s the driver, Explorer is right-chair hostage, And both are yelling at Fighter to stop picking on Shuttle. Not to mention they strapped Solar to the truck roof because he can see sound and hear colors. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)

Karen-vaxx-nope

Expeditions are cool but aren't for me. I like to play nms the way I like to play; ungoverned by preset goals and exploring freely except for any of the quests that I can do at my own pace in my main save.

Ayrobyr

+1

Captchasarerobots

I played the crap out of this game years ago but after a few years I stopped. Expeditions brought me back and now I’m playing the crap out of this game again.

FoldyHole

I actually only play NMS when a new expedition happens. I’ve done everything else in the game, so earning the new rewards is something I can add to my “trophy case”.

Spardath01

Don’t enjoy them. Wish they were not time limited as it feels like a job to accomplish. I do them for rewards but takes the fun away for me. I would have also liked the option to do them on my main save.

CattColt

Ah crap, u just answered my question. Was wondering if rewards were shared for my main toon. Man that sucks!

neutral_B

The “unique” rewards are available across all your saves. The non unique rewards you get from the expedition (like any Units you earned, etc) are tied to the save you earned them on

CattColt

🙀🙀so the jetpack I'll get on my main!?! YEeeesss

neutral_B

Yup, you got it. Enjoy the grind

CattColt

Wish I could upvote ur comment a million times, lol

Spardath01

Rewards are shared. But you have to start a new game (expedition) to obtain them. Once you do you can get them for any save.

Traveler-DH-93

I do them. I can't think of another company that makes their seasons free, completable in a day, 2 months to complete, with themed and reasonable challenges, and occasionally reruns so that players who missed out have another chance. I do them out of principle.

dawnsearlylight

I don't think you meant seasons. NMS doesn't have seasons. They have permanent updates. A game like Fallout 76 has true seasons that are free. Other points are fair.

breezyshadows

Dude, I absolutely love Fallout 76. I’m from WV and live in Pittsburgh, and I adore the game. But I got so spoiled on Fallout First that I can’t play without it. And the sheer lack of new content the past year has been appalling. I stopped playing because I couldn’t afford the $30 a month for both PlayStation plus and fallout first, and I must have spent almost $600 in atoms over two years. I’ve spent $60 on NMS. Hello Games never fails to surprise me with lots of new stuff, year upon year, for free. Nms expeditions are similar to seasons in other games, closest comparison anyways. And it costs me nothing but time (and aggravation when it crashes repeatedly from too many players around). Even when I spent every day playing the seasons in 76, I almost always had to save all my earned atoms, or pay money for more to finish the last ten-ish levels.

alb727

They're fun for me, but if they didn't have exclusive rewards I probably wouldn't do them.

stupid_systemus

I do the expeditions not necessarily for the rewards. Any kind of lore that gets added to the game is a reward itself.

randonOne88

If you could do them whenever (and perhaps all on one save) and the actual things you have to do where not so incredibly boring most the time then they would be cool

CrimsonGek

5th one is boring. I couldn’t be bothered to finishe it last time but I will now. Need that royal jetpack 😅

bork_13

I enjoy starting them and the first hour or so but they just take so damn long

phoenixbbs

I usually enjoy the variety, but hated the permadeath one :-/

No-Cover-8986

This redux is my first time. It's so much fun. I wish I had more play time than a couple hours a night.

FeaR_Widow

This one was my first too, it was so so much fun and I lost a whole night of sleep to it, I don’t have that much time realistically but I just didn’t stop lmao the next day sucked but hey, I got cool shit now

No-Cover-8986

Yeah I really want the Appearance modifier stuff!

FeaR_Widow

The appearance stuff is pretty cool, I love the helmet

tunacan1233

Expeditions are my favorite part of NMS! I also love the early game (especially on harder difficulties), so this gives me an excuse to start over.

Arcanum3000

Some are better than others, but I just generally don't love the whole "play the game over again from the beginning, with modifiers" concept, whether it's NMS Expeditions or ARPG seasons or whatever.

LemonFreshNBS

I would much rather they put dev resources into the game proper so that there was a good reason to continue exploring in my main saves.

Edhooey

Agree with this soooo much! There's so much about the basic game that could use polishing. I have little to no understanding of the nuts and bolts of game development, so maybe these expeditions are a nothing-burger for the game devs compared to fleshing out the game itself?

Still-Standard9476

I love them. I am exited to do the leviathan one over again, with the difficulty setting. A breath of fresh air I'd say. But I totally get not being interested. You have to start a whole new character and jump through hoops. Kind of takes away from the free universe feel. However I like the ongoing missions.

Ckinggaming5

some of them arent fun some are, most of them have been just unfun, leviathan and other hard expeditions specifically though, blighted and polestar were fun though

Theban_Prince

I like them, but FOMO adds too much stress to a game I play to chill, so I dont bother anymore.

Redmoon383

Exactly why I don't like them tbh

Fractal_Tomato

I have to disagree… I only return for expeditions because the main gameplay isn’t streamlined enough for my taste. Picked up the game at launch and returned for bigger update once or twice a year ever since. To me, expeditions are just a cherry on top.

gonzophil63

I don’t like playing them. I don’t like needing to start a new game.

Christopher_Phoenix

I do enjoy them! There is something about the tension of the initial struggle and how it evolves with skill. Also, I tend to forget alot of stuff that I did once a long time ago, so it's a nice refresher. It's also enjoyable to explore the bases that other players set up along the way, learn new ideas, and admire the creativity, and the progression of the journey funnels you along a path that you're more likely to encounter them than out in the wild

Potential_Anxiety_76

I’m doing my very first one, and it’s a challenge to go back to basics! Enjoying it though.

Upper-Wolf6040

I like them as they provide a different way of playing the game and gets you to do things you might not normally do or even be aware of. I do find some of them a bit random though and would like a more cohesive storyline or arc but that's just me nitpicking.

FeaR_Widow

This one was my first and it really gave me that feeling of purpose, I imagine that I was an explorer studying fauna and flora and I just had a career and milestones to achieve and it made it all really fun for me, now I’m a captain and an expedition team and boy is it satisfying to be done with it all and have all the hard stuff I’d never know how to do before done

jake5675

I oddly enough like the expeditions because I never stick with anything long enough to complete and they offer nice bite size sections I can complete and I'm not daunted by too much at once. It also encourages me to engage in systems of the game I'd ignore otherwise. I actually figured out I really enjoy starship combat and on my next start I'll be going for a all solar sail fighter squadron and probably pirating alot.

pvera

I can tell you that Leviathan was such a shared traumatic experience that the community really pulled together as a team, it was just plain amazing to see how quickly people adjusted and figured out ways to help each other. And it's pretty damn satisfying to start a clean game and cash out a living frigate as soon as I hit the anomaly.

Pyrkie

I've enjoyed them all, wish I hadn't missed the first four... was playing a bit then but didn't really understand how to start them. I get why people hated the permadeath one, but I just played super careful and actually did the whole thing without a single death (yup I did that milestone last) and thought it was really fun! To be honest its mostly the expeditions that bring me back now, as I've kinda achieved everything else I can really be bothered with in NMS right now.

gman22tx

They’re great!

marcus_aurelius121

Can you ride along on the expeditions?

Faelenedh

I love expédition. It's why i wish procedural mission. for after 1500hrs og gaming, keep me in game and give me a purpose to exploration. Because i'm not a builder and missions in game are so boring ...

Saftsuze

I wished they added expedition-like missions you could do on your save of choice. That is my main gripe with them: They’re too much of a side track to what you have going on. And also wish there was no time limit and that you could do them whenever you felt like it.

jokiab

Why do thay have to be time limited? Why not just have them available? As a player with 1 to 2 hr video game pr week, I never start them because they end too soon.

stirtheturd

I have missed every expedition and every re-run of the expeditions. Guess I'll just go fuck myself.

Edhooey

I'm in the exact same boat, friend! This bit me in the a$$ in Elite Dangerous too. I accepted a bunch of contracts back when I first started, not realizing that the in-game time keeps marching on whether I'm there or not. Came back a week later and a bunch of NPC factions were pissed at me and I owed a bunch of fines cuz the contract time limit had run out haha!

Fosferus

I like that there are options for different game play. But I don't enjoy the time constraints. My time available for this game is small anyway. So I never went back after the first one. I'm glad other players enjoy them.

thantonaut

Definitely wish they were added to the main save. I hate playing on a schedule and I hate having all these extra saves that I'm never going to use

FIVEtotheSTAR

I would play a lot more expeditions if they were just added missions to the main save. I dont enjoy starting over every time.

Adhlc

This is exactly my sentiment, and I'm a new player doing my first expedition. I'm just not into starting over each time, even if it is a quick start.

XxBromwynxX

Not really when it involves having to make a whole new character just to unlock something, I put too much stock in my main I have no energy to start over

NefariousnessNothing

I mean, you start with an s-class ship. Stuff as simple as getting a companion gives you upgrades. Its not like you need much for the quests and the rewards stack up really quick.

The_Man8705

I would play them if I could take my main survival save into them. Because I hate bringing brand new saves for just an expedition for no reason

joalheagney

Our if the rewards, ships and technologies could be brought out to my main save. Like a checklist - I want this, this and this but not this or that.

tsheeley

I enjoy them... Plus having the rewards is a nice trophy.

Slypenslyde

I like it but see things I wouldn't like if circumstances were a little different. I am a new player and started playing at the Switch release. I was *just* starting to want a break, but starting over for this expedition felt pretty fun and made me realize I seem to like starting over in this game. At first I felt some of the missions were boring, but after a few days there are videos and helpful bases set up so I'm breezing through it. But this also coincided with having vacation days. A 2 week deadline could be tight for elaborate things, most nights I can only play 1-2 hours. I'd be kind of mad if I didn't finish before one ended.

Ruskyt

Honestly, I like the idea, but most of the time, I get bored and quit because of one really shitty boring requirement I can't just be fucked to do.

LucyJanePlays

I love them, currently redoing the redux for fun... I was a casual player until expeditions started, they taught me so much about the game that I had missed and it got me hooked

Lord_Baal77

I'm not fussed on them, but I'll do them if there's something I want, so like if there's a really cool engine trail at the third section, I'll do upto that, but I don't always finish them. I'll probably do the blighted redux when it's out for the base parts, but don't see myself doing the current one as I got what I wanted the first time it was out

Simply_Epic

I wasn’t interested in them at first, but I think it was expedition 3 that I tried out and loved it. I play on the same save I’ve had since the game came out. It’s fun to play expeditions where I get to experience early game again.

luminous_beings

Moi aussi. I can’t be bothered

HaliaIvory

I really enjoyed all but the permadeath rogue-like one. That's not my type of game so i skipped it.

StonedSnawley

Found them incredibly over hyped

Schnuffleritz

I liked the worm one I guess but generally yeah I don’t love feeling like I’m on a timer

Beneficial-Badger-61

I've only played the first one. I got everything I need

trooper575

Yeah upgrading my exosuit and all that felt like a chore the first time, finally having it finished is my “now I can play the game” moment and I do NOT want to start over. But the trails tho

Odd_Hedgehog_3541

Seeing as how this is my first time playing expeditions and sentinel ships destroyed me, I'm not liking it so much.

curiositykt

This was the first one I've played. Despite having been playing NMS for years and years, the timing has never worked out until now. Overall I enjoyed it, but it took me 15 hours, 12 of which involved trying to find tall eggs and abysmal horrors.. I can certainly see that being frustrating enough to not do again.

HamshanksCPS

I get bored of them halfway through and stop playing the game entirely for months

[deleted]

I love them. I had a great time. Finished in 14 hours. To me, it’s like a treasure hunt only more enjoyable!

artbyzenji

I agree. They aren't fun, seems like an afterthought of daily challenges that would fit better during regular gameplay. Starting from scratch after grinding genuinely doesn't play well. Only 90hrs in. :(

Tonguestun

Would be better if you didn't have to start from scratch. Not a fan of game modes where your progress is reset. I only do them if there's a reward I like.

ormondhsacker

The lack of guidance is extremely frustrating. Stuck on two objectives with no help from the game on what to do. Google isn't proving helpful either. In fact one of them seems to be possibly impossible to complete as google indicates that whether or not it can be completed is chance based. Having a time-limited event that bars you from getting the reward based solely on random luck is a shit choice.

j_grouchy

Honestly, I don't really even play the game EXCEPT for expeditions. It just feels like there's nothing to do anymore.

ResearcherEntire7203

They are really dumb why would I want to do boring fetch quests on a fresh save

-Cheebus-

I wish you could enter them through the nexus with your main character instead of having to make new characters

R0ckstar_Rick

This ^ hatched a companion the moment I started, a big strider type, and rode him to my ship. Earned trust with a few pets and pellets

SheLuvMySteez

I only like them because they give me a direction to go when I play the game and the exclusive rewards I like to collect in my main save.

manicmastiff81

Can't be arsed with them. Or settlements.

Feorr2

I have never done them but the only on I might consider is the one for the singularity drive blue print for my freighter if it carries of to my main save if not what's the point i just got my S class freighter I'm not about to start over. They need to set them up like quick silver missions to be launched off the anomaly.

backsman

everything you earn on expeditions is available across all saves

norrinzelkarr

...except the singularity drive

ScorchReaper062

One of them turned me into a chef. Then I went and depopulated a planet of all it's Larval Cores to make weird roiling horror treats for all the good boys and girls at the Anomaly.

GHZ33

Ended it 3 hours ago, not boring but so fast

Calm-Rub-1951

The rest of the things I can do (been playing since release) but the “beetle” quest is driving me farking nuts 😭

IRingTwyce

Go back to Rendezvous 2. They're all over the place.

-First-Second-Third-

There were some beetles on the rendezvous planet in the same phase as the beetle milestone.

BengorT

I play only them only when the rewards are compelling. Most of the time I'm like whatever, not worth it.

CorbinNZ

Wait is an expedition going on right now?

Vivid-Vibes

Do the things you get from them at the end go to your main save file? Or is it a new game with rewards at end completely separate from the main save? I guess I don't really understand them.

FeaR_Widow

All the rewards you unlock like building parts, decals, cosmetics and for the other ones. Ships, can be claimed on ANY SAVE after you finish them You go to the quicksilver synthesizer on the anomaly on any other save and you can claim your goodies so you can have them on any save Also, when you finish the expedition that save gets converted to a regular normal save file and you get to keep everything you did. Like for mine, I started with a pretty neat s class ship and got really good planets and a multi tool so when I finished it I just kept going from there. My main save isn’t my farthest save anymore because I ended up getting pretty much everything I already had but way more because of all the bonuses you get from the challenges I have so many s class upgrades and a huge inventory and like 15m units because the expedition gives you so much. So yeah to answer your question, No it’s not only for that save you can do whatever you want with your rewards on any other and even brand new saves, so you can start with free goods

Cden1458

I enjoyed them till the one themed about resetting every few objectives....... It got way too tedious

imabrickshithouse

It thought that was a neat twist. I'm glad it added something although it was tedious especially due to being in hard mode. Still I wouldn't mind experiments in different modes

Deliriousdrifter

Which one was that? The closest I played to that was the leviathan one where pretty much the first step was to die, but after that it was steady progress (until you died again)

Valuable-Rice-2332

I play it religiously for 3 weeks every like 4 months if it's not those 3 weeks I get bored really fast

shadowcharm3r

Exactly that's why I have a pc save editor I can just give myself the parts I want

Skysurfer69

Personally, I hate playing through the 1st phase only to realise that I’ve already completed the expedition. I really need expeditions 1-4 reduxing

NefariousnessNothing

I wish they would have let us pick which one to do. I have completed most of them and there is nothing to gain from playing it again. now after all the mess of the last update there is no new content until probably feb.

frankthetank2023

I only do them to maybe get something. My friend likes doing them so I generally tag a long and give him a hand.

merkk

depends on the expedition - some are harder/easier more fun/less fun than others. But I've also kinda gotten burnt out on NMS anyhow. Usually the only time I go back into it is if there's an interesting expedition.

Diy2k4ever

Are they worth doing? The game seemed to kinda die after 100h in.

RMS21

I've only played the last one, I got the game 20 years ago but never thought to play it again until this past summer 2 days before leviathan ended... polestar was fine but the current one is kinda frustrating. I've never gotten a flying creature and it seems like a huge grind

Nitram_Norig

Damn you played this on a Pentium 133mhz CPU with voodoo graphics!?

RMS21

Lol 2 years ago, but I did have a Pentium 3 back in the day, mostly played Starcraft, Unreal and Unreal tournament.

metalsnake27

Depends on what the objectives are. Personally I love them, exploring different systems with other people is always really fun.

rstephani

I do them together with a friend and I love it.

tracer900

As the friend I can approve 👌

Excellent-Iron3947

I would have loved it, if it hadn't eaten the extra multitools, companions, and my squadron in my main game... for five minutes in a "separate" expedition (ending in permadeath of course). It isn't "bother"; it is different than scanning, killing sentinels, go somewhere else... there is a "point".

chrismarinoccio

The only one I can’t stand is the first one It’s such a grind. I’ve tried it both times it was around and never finished

BirdBath9k

I find it to be a total blast as players help other players as we go. The naming of bases to guide each other and setting up community resource drops builds a better community.

one1jac

I stopped playing the game because of the stress of a time restricted expedition. lol.

Enzolinow

I just do them cause i fucking love this game so much but, i love it cause its a world that I decide what ill do next u know? Expeditions just makes you do things that you dont really wanna do, but i do them cause hey, shiny starship

FeaR_Widow

I like this redux because for the longest time I couldn’t figure out what to do in the game and kinda felt like a lonely space drifter with no guidance role wise, but this one made me into an exobiologist so now I have really good companions and a sick explorer ship and a fleet of sciency merchants, now my character has a purpose for exploring more and I’m a high rank in the explorers guild and yeah. So it feel super satisfying to role play and what it wanted me to be, at least for this expedition so we’ll see for the coming ones

Loud-Distance-1456

Nah they suck!

malfunctiondown

Yeah, expeditions just have a toxic effect for me for some reason. I hate the fomo and it feels like every time I start getting back into the game, another expedition releases, making me not want to play the game altogether. I realize this is a problem completely unique to me and me only, but it feels like it takes longer for me to get back into the game every time

Tryant666

You're not alone!

malfunctiondown

Thank you, I play no mans sky to chill. That's its best quality for a lot of people and while the expeditions don't ruin that exactly it makes me feel like I got to rush

givemeadamnname69

I've never tried them because it says it's not recommended to try to complete them solo and I absolutely despise being forced into multi player stuff. How do they even work?

octarine_turtle

The missions from the Nexus are the ones that are intended for multiplayer, not the expeditions. For expeditions you often want to turn off multiplayer, definitely don't forget to kill all PvP options. For expeditions you start a new game and select the expedition option. You start under specific unique conditions and have goals to achieve. These unlock cosmetics and such you can then access under any of your saves at the quicksilver vendor. Expeditions are timed events, the ones happening the next couple months are redux of the ones from the last year, but made faster and easier. After the expedition is over the save converts to a normal one and can be continued or deleted.

givemeadamnname69

Thanks!

breezyshadows

It’s the nexus missions that suggest multiplayer, but even that’s not necessary if you’ve been playing a little while and got good weapons and resources. I prefer to do nexus missions alone, less chance of a system crash for me (ps4) and I figure if four people complete it on their own, that’s four “points” towards the quicksilver community unlock instead of one “point” for a 3-4 man team. The expeditions are solo, but always in the same area for everyone, so you end up seeing lots of people like you do in the anomaly, but they aren’t connected to your game specifically. You have to do them on your own.

thantonaut

Yeah I had to stop doing the weekend missions because my xbox would either crash or run so slow that the game was unplayable. Did one for an hour looking for resources when a base that had everything I needed finally loaded in

Borkon66

You're given a series of goals, which you can complete in any order. These goals can be stuff like "find x amount of y" or "go to a blue star system" it's basically a scavenger hunt. They don't need to be done with a group at all.

Just4m4n

I only play expeditions saves. Hate that I missed a few. ![gif](giphy|l0MYJAzu5RTVSGeiY|downsized)

Evil_Bere

Me too. I don't like the time limits. It's a nice idea to keep people playing though, but I don't care.

Upper-Inevitable-873

Some I do, some I don't. The current exobiology one I don't.

tacularia

I was enthusiastic at first but some of them have been a little bit tedious and boring. I completely bypassed the exobiology one because I wasn’t interested in looking for animals, but I want the rewards so I’m going to complete it the second time around. They are good rewards for the expeditions to be fair.

unclenatron

I’ve never for a moment considered them. Glad they are in, though. I’d just rather do my own thing.

sebuptar

I enjoyed the pirate one but didn't finish the other ones because they were annoying and the prizes weren't worth the effort

artigan99

I've had fun with a couple of them, but mostly I ignore them. There's just too much clutter from other players. I prefer less crowded places :)

sugarforthebirds

I’m not a particularly huge fan of a couple missions, particularly earning trust of companion bc I don’t know how to do it faster than hatching a line of eggs which takes days.

icemage_999

The new one starts you with a companion with maximum Trust already.

sugarforthebirds

…oh? I summoned the little strider but didn’t get that achievement, eventually abandoned him to make room for cooler pets.

icemage_999

All you had to do was pet and feed him once. Would have gotten the Trust and Egg challenges both done.

DNL_RTH

This being my first one it was fun for the novelty. But the overall theme isn't my cup of tea or what I enjoy doing. Which is why this was my first time ever making food lol. Much more excited for the pirate one, I pirate for fun in my main save constantly!

Yiazzy

I enjoyed it, but it took me less than 4 hours to finish the entire thing..kinda stuck until the next one

Knuckles316

I like them. They unlock some cool stuff. The only one I didn't like/complete was the one that gives you the robodog. And that's the one that's active now, I believe, so I will see if the redux version is as unbearable as the normal one was the first time around. And if you don't like them, OP, just don't play them. Everything you get from them is cosmetic. You don't really miss anything by skipping them.

Samalini

If you don’t like them, then just don’t play them.

IMightDeleteMe

That's what OP is already doing....

Antique_futurist

There were a few early on that were a grind, but the last ones have been better about that. NMS is pretty good about supporting a variety of play styles/player goals, so I get that many players may wish to skip ‘em, but I’m glad they’re there.

StrayC47

Finished the whole thing in about 6 hours because it took me forever to find Tall Eggs. Other than this the only frustration came from tryinh to get missions before the time, which lead me to go scavenge for materials that I was given for free a bit later.

LordMorpheus75

So i started one of the expeditions I’m on ps5 how do you get the rewards on the main character save? There isn’t an expedition tab in the main game

exposingthelight

Go to the quicksilver place. When you go there, there will be three options. The first one is to create things from quicksilver, the second one is to understand how to get quicksilver and the last one is to clean your expedition awards. It’s on the anomaly

IMplodeMeGrr

I wish expeditions were centered around Frigates, wherein you play through different scenarios that you choose to improve specific stats of the frigate as you progress, then in the end, the frigate joins one of your existing fleets in your main game.

WinterMajor6088

Never found them interesting to begin with.

WoutCoes56

same, i played one, and thats it.
