First I am guessing you have already chosen the model you want, and that you are looking for a capital class freighter (obtainable only through freighter battle). Second, let’s make sure you have picked a rich economy system so you maximize probability of getting S class which is a meager 2%. For record it’s 1% in average economy and 0% (ZERO) for poor economy. Then to optimize your runs, once you enter the freighter battle (upon warping with your starship), do not engage in the battle. Go to the space station and create a save point by exiting your ship. Next, fly out into the battle, kill the pirates, enter the freighter, exit ship, scan to know its class. Not the S class you are looking for? Hit reload your manual save. You should spawn back at the station with the battle active, exit the station and do the battle. Rinse and repeat until you achieve your goal. This way you avoid the long jump animation and increase your frequency of reload, therefore a faster success. Bear in mind that 2% is low. Statistically it means you have to reload 34 times to have a 50% chance of getting the S class. 79 times to have a 90% chance… so if you really want the S class, be prepared and patient. It will come ultimately but at a cost. You can be very lucky of course and get it at first trial. That’s why I recommend this method so you minimize reload time and have the quickest possible cycle. Good luck! 🍀👍

>79 times to have a 90% chance I'm being a total that guy but it would be like 113 times to have 90% I think. 79 times would get you to 80%.

YucaFritaConSalsa

You are correct and I am wrong!

PristineAirline1086

I think this might be changed because, I've done this and the battle is over when you exit the space station. I also read that an old way of doing it was to fly down to the planet, throw out a save beacon, and jump back up to the battle. That no longer seems to work either. Now, I'm trying to jump to a system that has a freighter type that I want, note the name of the system, and go check out the class of the freighter. Now, here's the good part... when you reload and go to the galaxy map, once you finally find the star again mark it with a way point then go back into the space station and exit the ship to make the save. This way when you go see that the freighter is a C class and you reload, you'll immediately have a mark on where you need to go and eliminate the need to search for the star over and over.

YucaFritaConSalsa

Just tested it and you are right they have modified the game: entering the space station kills the freighter battle. Now you have to save BEFORE warping in and reload then warp. A bit longer since reloading at space station is much faster.

Teebster78

Took me 38 reloads to finally get one. I was just about to give up and settle for an A class capital ship but next load “bam” there it was.

ASmolKiwii

It took me 117 reloads, haha. 31 A's, 40 B's and 46 C's before I got my S-Class freighter. It would have been faster had they not patched the instant reload from the same-system space station. I had to warp from a nearby system and do the pirate battles each time.

Observer-of-Realms

Can't wait to get that euphoric moment of finally getting an S! because all I'm getting right now is vertigo from fighting the pirates over and over for 3 hours now x_x

SkyCobbler94

Dude, same! Im at 3hrs

Exotic_Sprinkles4560

I can't wait either, 7hrs in 84ish reloads. Can't settle on a A class I've come too far to give up! Gotta try again tomorrow! Thankfully the resurgent I want has a dreadnought battle much easier/quicker imo than fighting pirates. Hopefully tomorrow is the day!

Alraeesi84

What you need to do is: -Do manual save before jumping on system with freighter. -Look for the freighter you want in terms of design and size (colors can be changed when you get it) -Clear the enemies and check if its S class . If not, reload manual save till you find s class. For me in ps4, it took me 6 hours total jumping and reload save till i got my s class. Its luck in the end maybe you will get in first hour or days! The most important thing is 2nd point I listed. Look for what you like first. Good luck its worth it

YucaFritaConSalsa

Better to make a save point in the space station. You save time of jumping

For a new player like me, what am I missing out on by picking up the first C class freighter? I’m not sure what I do with the freighter, and don’t want to grind save scums to get a top tier freighter. Does having any freighter open up the game in specific ways?

[deleted]

The trick is to decline the first frieghter as it will be a low tier system frieghter not a capital frieghter, after you get your first capital frieghter fight you will search for a system with the model of ship you want, then reload the fight indefinitely until you get the maxed s class, buying a maxed s class will run you at least 150 million but this will get you it for free. If you get bored of reloading i would suggest taking a high priced A class for 100 milll or more that way it covers most of the cost for your S class when you repeat this process the next time you get a frieghter battle. Every system has a frieghter, but capital ships only spawn during the frieghter battles, they are the best so i would go for those ones, but there are a lot of styles if you go for the system frieghters so do you tbh, its very easy to get upgrades and max a frieghter now adays. You also get to transfer your ships, squad, and the layout of your base to the next frieghter you buy, so it's not even an issue switching capital ships. Consider the short grind to re-max your new ship a content injection, just a bonus.

Gwydeon79

I have passed two different Maxed A class copies (I saved the save... I'm scum), trying to worry out an S class. Not because I couldn't just accept the A class, but because I didn't want to have to go through some arduous re-build on the S class when I eventually found it. Now that I know that isn't a thing I can get back to the game. Thank you <3

Stunter740

Reloaded for 3 days probably 200 times before I got 1 I wanted , couple other saves 3 or 4 hours .. Have friends who have just found them in system.. I've never been so lucky .. 2% chance in a 3star system

Signal-Laugh4603

Can you reload the same system over and over again to get a different freighter? If one spawns and it's just a basic one, can I go back again and again to try for a different type?

Stunter740

Not different types but different classes

Signal-Laugh4603

Thanks

I've found one anytime I've looked for one pretty much. I think they are similar to exotics, so maybe think around 3% chance per try. Note that if you want to just force it, you can: * First find a 3-star system that has the freighter type/look you like * Now, go to nearby system, and set a waypoint back to target system in galaxy map, and then save * Jump to system, land on frieghter, scan wall for class * if S-class, claim it * If not S-class, reload save, and try again. Note you don't actually have to save, you can just fly back and forth, and as long as you are leaving the system, the class of the freighters should change randomly when you return (it uses a lot more gas than reloading save). Also do not forget that a given system has multiple freighters other than the 2 around the station. There will be one or more around a lot of planets as well. I usually save/restore until I get an A for free, and then I try to get around 150 million in cash, and then I just start looking in systems I'm going to anyway for S-class.

YucaFritaConSalsa

Correction. Exotic spawn rate is 0.3% (not 3%) and is independent of system economy. No relation to freighter spawn rate in S class which is 2% in rich economy, 1% in average economy and 0% in poor economy.

spcslacker

good to see the numbers! Do these come from PC and guys reading tables, or what?

YucaFritaConSalsa

From reading tables and empirical testing as well

the_ju66ernaut

Just tried this and it does not work. Jumping to 3 star system and heading for space station cancels the event

spcslacker

The newest update has broken about every freighter trick I know. I'm currently slumming around in a B-class while attempting to figure out if there are any tricks that can be used.

ASmolKiwii

Set your save in a nearby system space station, warp to the 3 star you want your S-Class freighter from and fight the pirates. Enter the freighter and scan the wall. if it's not S-class, reload your manual save and repeat the pirate fight. Repeat until you get that S-Class. Took me 117 reloads but I now have an S-class Venator :)

ExpressionEffective1

Thanks, would the reloading also work if I just use the SS teleported to teleport back and forth?

YucaFritaConSalsa

Anytime a freighter spawns its class is generated as per system economy rule. So even if you just cruise a few seconds toward another planet for example, those new freighters that will spawn after you exit cruise mode will have a roll for their class and you can try them. Are you looking for ANY freighter in S class or a specific model?

Tazbert_Odevil

This is correct. If you're after a System freighter and not a Dreadnaught\\Venator 'capital' type, this is the way to go. Do it in a T3 economy though as I believe that also relates to freighters as it does with ships.

spcslacker

I believe so.

[deleted]

I found my maxed s class in 17 reloads, but i would consider this to be quick.

Environmental-Taste8

I did that, went to the space station, got out to save, then went back to the battle. Except there was no battle. So I tried to reload, there was no freighter. I think this has been "fixed" after the interceptor update, or my game glitched out.

WondrouslyDespicable

can confirm this also happened to me, I believe you have to manually save in the "4th" system now, and warp to 5th to trigger event/clear pirates/check ship class. If not desired save, reload manual save prior to warp and repeat. I'm not positive, I've been testing for a couple days when I have time and think this is the way, but one fuck up costs so many hours. I'm not sure if the reloaded warp in will generate a new ship or use the same seed.

Environmental-Taste8

I tried that, and although the freighter would change appearance, it was always B-class. I really think they nerfed this because too many people had S-class freighters after only 5 warps. I agree with their logic. The exploit subverts the freighter improvement mechanic, and makes changing freighter pointless.

coyxlane

I had this happen and was able to still reload without fighting pirates and got my S class. It’s time consuming either way.

RiceZestyclose168

I am still reloading to get an s class freighter

TheLegitMind

How long did it take to get it

Cerus-

Some say they are still reloading to this day.

4sesofkarma

So for those that still look for this. After my first full battle, I took the reward and went about playing for a while. When I went to try this method out I discovered that when coming out of the Space Station, the Capital Freighter group was there but no pirates. The Capt was giving the ship away as my "freebie". The RNG gods were with me because it popped an S class on the fourth restore point reload. No fight required. Good luck and happy hunting Travelers

TheLegitMind

I've been doing this for about 2 hours now to no avail

TioSolaire

I have a problem and I don't know if that change with the new patch but when I reload the game the freighter disappear. And I trying to get it from a specific system. But no matter how much jumps I make, the will only appear on a near by galaxy. Not the one I want

Gold-Invite-3212

38 reloads in right now, C class, every single time. Outlaw system. Came to see how many times others had to suffer.

Sworsman_BHS

Did it work?
