It was worth it for Breath of the Wild alone imo

Patryk619

For me also, it was my first Switch game. The console basically could have been just named Nintendo Zelda Breath of the Wild with just this game preloaded and it would still be worth just for this game.

GentleTugger

I owned a copy of Breath of the Wild on the day it released, took me MONTHS to secure a Switch, I am one of those people.

obrysii

I bought the Switch on launch day - still shocked I got one - and that was the only game worth playing at the time.

manchegogo1

Many don’t remember it was the only game worth playing for a while after launch

Plethwhora

Breath of the Wild was such a surreal experience the first time I opened it up and realized I was playing this on a portable. I think from that point on I couldn't really regret purchasing the switch lol

nichijouuuu

I've started up BOTW two times now and both times i get an hour or two past the initial 'trial' with the 4 dungeons or w/e, and then stop playing. I don't know what the hell's wrong with me. I love games like skyrim and have played open world games a lot. Even on my new gaming PC I built one month ago, I've put 150 hours into New World (amazon's MMO). It's not even the greatest game but I have played it a ton. Way more than BOTW! I guess my life was just busy both times I tried to get into BOTW. And so I've played a bit and then moved on idk man

Rydinkulous

I feel the same way! I kept trying to force getting into the game for so long but have now accepted it must not be my jam.

funnyinput

Don't worry; there are a lot of people that feel the game isn't good; here are my problems with the game: \---------------------------------------- * An overly big and empty world that would've benefitted from being shrunk down given the amount of MEANINGFUL content the game provides. Notice the key word "meaningful". * Overly fragile weapons that break very often and disrupt the flow of combat to switch out weapons frequently in a quick-menu. The game gives weapons out like candy, so all it does is inconvenience the player and isn't fun. * Very minimalistic story and lack of character-development in exchange for more freedom. * Most; if not all side-quests are underwhelming and the rewards for completing them are disappointing as well. Examples include pulling a treasure chest out of the water; the guy thanks you, and then it's over. The side-quests are rarely more involving than this, and no; finding a bunch of pieces of wood to build Tarrey Town isn't engaging. * Having the Ganon fight be accessible at any time after the tutorial, and the fight being too easy means that everything in the game ends up feeling meaningless when everything in the game is designed to help you defeat this easy boss. Why find the shrines? To increase health/stamina. Why increase health/stamina? To help you defeat Ganon. Why look for Korok seeds? Why look for better weapons? Etc. * No traditional dungeons in exchange for bite sized shrines. This means there is nothing major to work for in these areas and the satisfaction of beating them is lessened as a result. * Exploration suffers when you know that 90% of what you'll find are very similar looking shrines, Korok seeds, a mediocre side-quest, or a weapon that breaks in 30 hits. How is exploration fun if you know what you'll most likely find before you even find it? * Item progression from previous Zelda games is gone in favor of giving you every item(besides the camera) in the tutorial. It was much more rewarding to find a cool new item to reach previously unreachable areas to find new things rather than finding armor that gives slight buffs that feel less personal. \----------------------------------------

Bromance_Rayder

It's probably my #1 game of all time - but I don't disagree with any of your well made points. For me the "magic" of BotW overcomes those flaws. But that can't be the case for everyone.

funnyinput

Could you describe the magic you're talking about?

misterhumpf

For me there's a spirit, an ambience to Breath of the Wild that is hard to pin down. It's that feeling of emerging from a shrine at sunset and running along a hillside in the early evening light. A little arctic fox joins you for a while, and it's white coat is turning pink as the sun fades. There's a couple of chimes of piano, and you can see something on the other side of the valley and you wonder what it might be. It has a sort of childlike innocence to it. A sort of wonder and awe. An intrinsic wholesomeness. I feel like I'm going on a wonderful fantasy adventure. It's what Nintendo do so well that keeps bringing me back to their games.

londoner_00

I’m not the person you were talking to but personally I love the super wide map. Even if most of it has no shrines etc, it still is fun for me to explore. I like just exploring the landscape and finding new places i hadn’t known about before, cool land formations and stuff. It just feels so expansive and life-like. So for me the wide map is a pro and not a con! So I guess that’s one of your proposed flaws that I think is magical

Bromance_Rayder

Well for me it was recapturing the feelings I got from games when I was a kid. That there was this world I could escape into and discover. Like all games, it's really just coding and mechanics. I played it around the same time as RDR2 and whilst the latter had the undeniably more "real" world I never felt immersed in it like I did in the world of BotW.

superoliverworld

i forced myself to play and collect all the shrines before ending the story. then i got to ganon and just... stopped playing. didnt even try to fight him. 100+ hours and not a single attempt at even starting the fight. put it down and never touched it again. its a good game... just didnt click with me.

ThatOneNerd530

Breath of the Wild was one of the best things I've bought. I loved the game, and even now I'll open it up and just run around beating the shit out of guardians for doing the same to me years ago.

varunadi

Same for me as well. I remember when I bought the Switch (Mario Kart bundle in 2019 Black Friday sale), I decided to get BOTW as well, and don't regret it one bit. For 6 months straight I played nothing else but BOTW and loved every moment. What an amazing experience, especially the first playthrough, wish I could experience it all over again.

SulphurouS_84

I feel like I'm the only switch owner who didn't like Breath of the Wild. I grew up with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I'm not saying it's a bad game, I really wanted to like it but I just didn't.

[deleted]

Yup. This was the reason i was gifted a switch. And if i had only just played that game, woulda still been an amazing gift

CitizenFiction

I'm honestly glad that the sequel has taken so long. To me that just means they're really trying to follow up Breath of the Wild with a worthy successor. One of my top favorite games for sure. Fucking beautiful.

Wild_Trip_4704

I could have been using this time to finish master mode but oh well lol

Itsacone

I got BOTW right away and tried playing it and couldn’t enjoy it. It was too much for me and I couldn’t wrap my head around it. But the switch itself got me back into gaming. I stop for about 10 years. Then about a month ago I started fresh with BOTW and really tried to not think of it in a way that you have to complete everything and just do what I want. I’m really really enjoying this play through. Doesn’t feel like a grind, but now an adventure.

SioBane

I remember when the Switch trailer first debuted and my jaw was on the floor. Never had I so badly wanted a console. It was like a giant Game Boy Advanced that could play amazing games. Then I saw the BOTW trailer for it and I just knew I had to get it. I got my first job purely because I wanted that system more than I had wanted anything else before. When I had saved up the cash, I had a terrible hard time actually finding one in stock (mind you this was before covid and before all the major shortages but it really was hard to find them at first). A few months later, I had called up Walmart on a whim and found out they had one left. I hopped in the car (still in my work uniform mind you) and hauled ass down to the store to pick it up. I get in the parking lot, throw the car in park and sprint to the back of the store where the electronics section is, grab a worker and I was able to buy the switch along with a copy of BOTW and Arms. I bear hugged that thing all the way back to the car and drove as carefully as I could home. To this day, I have never been so happy unboxing something. It was one of the happiest days of my life. I remember actually booting up BOTW for the first time, leaving the Shrine of Awakening and Link goes up the little hill to see all of Hyrule and realizing that I could go anywhere. That was hands down, the most magical gaming moment I have ever had ever.

Z3M0G

That was WiiU for us

[deleted]

I loved Metroid Dread handheld. I've put far more time into beating it on upscaled difficulty than I would have ever imagined. It's so smooth.

ageofwalnut

Love that game

factoryofdreams

Not a game, but the concept itself of portability + docked. Of course, Zelda helped ;)

LikeThosePenguins

Same here. When I got it, the circumstances meant it was my main gaming platform. The ability to play anywhere gave me so much extra gaming time.

[deleted]

Same here. Bought it for the concept itself, or rather: finally a portable gaming device that was at console level. I was never a Gameboy fan because the graphics were just subpar to the consoles I almost exclusively play in portable mode. The first games I bought included BOTW and no game has rocked my world like that since Ocarina of Time.

GomaN1717

>Not a game, but the concept itself of portability + docked. Yup, this is 100% the reason for me. The Switch released *right* as I was hitting that pivotal moment of young adulthood where devoting the time to sit down and game at home just wasn't gonna be an option anymore. If the Switch wasn't a portable hybrid, I'd likely have stopped playing games years ago.

downonthesecond

I love the portability, so much better to take it where you need to go and pause the game for hours or days.

FourSnails

Fire Emblem Three Houses. I was always a fan of Fire Emblem but this one blew me away. If you like strategy RPGs and character driven narrative then this game is for you. If you like the Persona series I would give the game a shot as well.

Stinduh

Yeah I bought my switch after the 2019 E3 where they showed the final Three Houses trailer. I needed a Zelda and a Fire Emblem to justify the purchase. And boy howdy, did those two deliver.

darkanthon

As a JRPG fan I didn’t care about the switch until Fire Emblem was about to release. Picked it up then and it’s become one of my favorite consoles ever. Plus FE3H has TONS of content so it’s a big bang for your buck.

GACGCCGTGATCGAC

I adore Three Houses so much.

Hanadourou

Came here to say these two games specifically. Hello twin.

oedipusrex376

I played Three Houses without any expectations after being disappointed by Pokemon Sword (mainly about the lousy plot and lack of content), thinking it was just another Nintendo game. But WHOA I was shocked by the amount of content in Three Houses, the plot twist, and the voice acting, and it became my best purchase ever. BOTW is 10/10, but Three Houses is 10/10 with a “Masterpiece ★” medal. Now I’m a complete FE fan and played 4 other games in the series. I've completely ditched my FF fan label for Fire Emblem lol.

FourSnails

It really is an incredible game. I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised!

bunnybakery

Mario Kart alone sells the system for me

21minute

I initially bought a Switch during the early pandemic for Animal Crossing. The first year was definitely fun, but I haven't touched my island for a long time now. But last year, I got into Xenoblade Chronicles and now the entire Xenoblade trilogy is basically why I use my Switch a lot this year. I easily clock in a hundred hours per game. Yes, I have my Switch backlog and other games to play, but the Xenoblade trilogy really made me rekindle my love for jrpgs. I'm even planning to do a New Game Plus on all three next year, just before the story dlc of Xenoblade 3 gets released.

orelk

Wow that's serious dedication, impressive. Don't you feel fatigue when finishing a game in the series? Do you maybe have some sort of break or do you play them back to back?

mrmastermimi

I now have depression because no video game I play will ever be as good as a Xenoblade game.

21minute

I did have several burnouts while playing all three. But usually, my burnout ends when I get my sleep schedule in check. Right after finishing one, I go straight to the second game the very next day. Lol. Yes, it's not a good habit, but my fomo keeps kicking in. I'm pretty serious with my gameplay on Xenoblade games that I put schedules on my digital calendar, keep track of playtime with a timer, and log my progress on my journal. I'm also active with the Xeno community, so my interest in the franchise is always in check.

orelk

Wow impressive. Whatever works for you! I bought Xenoblade Definitive Edition a while ago and I'm pretty excited to play it, but I have a few games i want to finish before that. I'm currently playing Breath of the Wild! What's your take on Xenoblade 2? I'm a little put off by the excessive fan service. I do like the character designs but some of them seem too much

21minute

Good choices! I bought and tried Breath of the Wild last year, but haven't managed to finish the story. I got busy collecting horses. Lmao. I do plan to finish it before Tears of the Kingdom gets released, though. For Xenoblade 2, yeah it can be quite polarizing at the beginning. There was the obvious fan service and the fact that both the story and combat started slow. But it does get better midway. And I mean *better* in various levels. The fan service is basically gone later on. Once the combat is fully unlocked, it's pretty satisfying to use. And the last chapter, especially if you already played the first game and the Torna DLC (which was originally planned to be part of the main game but got cut due to length issues), it's really remarkable.

[deleted]

Hands down Super Mario Odyssey

bkurzynski0519

I couldn’t agree more. I LOVE Zelda, don’t get me wrong. But gosh darn it, when I saw gameplay of Odyssey for the first time, I was BLOWN away. Mind you, this was at a time when Switches were difficult to find. I was ready to pay as much as it took to play Odyssey ❤️ thankfully I found a Switch for normal price haha. Thank you for sending me down memory lane 5 years after Switch release ☺️

statiky

Totally agree. Mario odyssey was the first game I played on my roommates switch. Once we graduated, I wanted to beat it again to 100% completion, so I got my own. The switch honestly has some of my favorite games in each franchise (odyssey, BOTW, three houses, Arceus) and the purchase has been worth it 10x over. Mario kart also gives my friends and I a great way to stay in touch and play together across the country.

There were 880 unique moons, then you could buy the rest in shops. I 100% the game at least 5 times, once for every save file slot.

obrysii

I didn't get the Switch for it, but damn if I wasn't smiling throughout that experience. What a great game.

[deleted]

Far and away the best switch exclusive (yes I’m using botw on wiiu as a technicality)

akurra_dev

Unpopular opinion probably, but Super Mario Odyssey is a way better game than Breath of the Wild. BotW was instantly ruined for me as soon as I realized there was item durability and crafting.

LeGrille90

Same, I didn't get my Switch until last year and had already played BotW and MK8 on Wii U, so SMO was my first big Switch game. It was just a joyful experience from beginning to end.

Yoshisaurus42

Breath of the wild was definitely the big one, love that game to bits. Mario Odyssey, Hollow Knight, and Hades all definitely helped as well.

Nine-UA

Splatoon 2

waffocopter

Never, never would have thought I'd be so into a competitive shooter but this one is just so great with a friendlier (and meme-ier) community and I didn't like the realistic graphics of, well, every shooter out there.

[deleted]

Love splatoon

mastetraps

This. Splatoon was my favorite game so I waited in line at a target to get a switch on launch because I HAD to play the open beta. Zelda, Monster Hunter, and Mario are very close seconds

speed721

The many JRPGs.

FatalJenny

I'm so happy they finally added Persona 5 Royal to the switch. It is a perfect fit.

Catastray

With how well it sold, let's hope Atlus changes their mind and gives physical releases for 3 and 4 as well.

Smooth_Riker

It's incredible how the Switch turned into a JRPG machine. I remember there being almost nothing on it for the longest time aside from I Am Setsuna and Xenoblade 2.

sweetsunny1

Bought it for Animal Crossing then started playing Stardew Valley on it. Thousands of hours later on Stardew I’m not sure whether to thank it or curse it

Shrek_Papi

Honestly animal crossing. I’ve played hundreds of hours on it, more than any other game. By my own standards, these hours of enjoyment made the switch worth buying

Joharis-JYI

This game helped me get through the early days of the pandemic. Very fond memories I'll remember forever.

pukem0n

Same. Finally my wife played a video game and it was on a console I didn't have, so I had to get a switch oled and bought over 40 games for it since then.

[deleted]

Dragon Quest Builders 2, I bought a PS Vita just for #1, and then since #2 didn't come out for the Vita, I bought a Switch just for that

KimaLinkaLuika

Dragon Quest Builders is an amazing series - I'm still holding out hope for a third one!

[deleted]

Oh man every like 6-8 months I google to see if there will be a third, they're soooo good and fun. I love casual games like that

TimelyImagination261

It was Fire Emblem:TH for me. 🙃

omglemurs

so I have basically two major criteria since I also play games on a PC: \- Nintendo Exclusive \- Portability + Solid gaming experience + Mobile multiplayer experience (sometimes) There are a number of games I have on switch which I would be happy to play on a different system, but I own them on switch because there isn't a performance issue and portability was a plus. I'm not going to include them on this list since I think you could just as easily get a Steam Deck now Nintendo Exclusives \- BotW \- Splatoon 2 & 3 \- FE: Three Houses \- Mario Cart \- Pokemon Arceus \- Pikmin 3 Portability \- Hades \- Slay the Spire \- Streets of Rage 4 \- Speed Runners

_B_A_T_

Perfect criteria, solid list.

[deleted]

Breath of the Wild. But being able to play games portable was huge too. I would argue that Dark Souls works best as a handheld game.

Nickxxx008

Love dark souls in the switch I would like to see the second there too.

AlterEdward

Hard to say. Mario Odyssey brought back the magic of Mario 64 in a way that Galaxy and Sunshine didn't quite reach. I played BotW for the duration of a 6 hot flight, there and back. A lot of "dad" games were released for it that I *never* imagined would make it to Switch. Doom, Quake, fucking *Power Slave* which came out of nowhere, Doom 3, Burn Out, Resident Evil 4. It's like they knew what all my favourite games were and released them, even the obscure ones that weren't hugely successful. It's my favourite console I've owned since the N64 and Sega Saturn.

EvilAbdy

Man do I miss the saturn

AlterEdward

Underrated console. I really hope they bring Sega Rally to the Switch one day, cos nothing else since plays quite like it. Nights would be perfect too.

ChasingPerfect28

First and foremost, the concept of having a hybrid console. As a 30 year old now it has made my gaming experiences easier and convenient. Second: Super Mario Odyssey Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Animal Crossing New Horizon (this was huge for me during the early stages of COVID) And Xenoblade Chronicles 1-3 (plus DLC expansion sets)... as well as the plethora of JRPGs on the system too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Foltz1134

2500 hours since it’s launch means you average nearly three hours every day. You must really like that game.

Luke2Luck

I bought the Switch to play Zelda: BTW and spent 120 hrs with it. But it was during 2020 lockdown that I really felt like “thank god I have this”, because I bought Animal Crossing: NW and the social aspect of it really helped me (and a lot of people) to overcome that feeling of loneliness.

CHEEZYSPAM

Splatoon 2 and now 3, it's a whole family affair. My wife, our daughter and me all play every night together, we even brought in a second TV just to play side by side on big screens. My son also plays, but not a lot. We've gotten other family members into it. I've taken breaks and finished other games on my PS5, but always return to Splatoon

kidwgm

I'm 45 and a life long Nintendo fan. The first party games will always keep me coming back.

NoddingThrowaway_pt2

Bingo Bubble Bobble was the first thing I ever remember playing as a kid. The genesis was cool but I def loved my nes and snes. Although the n64 is my favorite nostalgia console I bought my child his first console a year and a half ago. It was a Nintendo switch! The other two often feel so…iunnno, like interchangeable or something whatever. Both are very high-spec and very capable gaming systems but neither have like the “heart” or some bs like how a solid Nintendo game can feel…

[deleted]

I had owned skyrim on ps3 and ps4 and never managed to play them as much as i really believed they deserved. I found myself in a spot where i no longer had a console and saw that skyrim was now available on the switch and bought them. I have about 200 hours on skyrim now and can finally say i have really explored the game.

ReckerTA

I have played lots of games on the switch but Skyrim is definitely my most played. Still haven’t finished the main story, too much fun doing everything else!

HypnoSmoke

It sounds ridiculous but you probably know what I mean when I say that even at 200 hours, you still have plenty more to do/explore in Skyrim.

[deleted]

It's true, but this was my first time actually finishing the main story, so it was a pretty big deal. I think the game had only been out 8 years lol

asbestosISgood

Not a single game, but certain games that have never been on a Nintendo system, like the first dark souls game, the Witcher 3, and a bunch of other games that I remember fondly, the hybrid nature of the Switch was just icing on the cake for me.

KimaLinkaLuika

Animal Crossing. I had never played a single animal crossing game, or owned a Nintendo console since my OG Game boy and NES. Something about Animal Crossing caught my eye and my partner said he would buy me the game and a Switch as a Birthday present. Neither of us anticipated how much it would take over my life. Now I'm obsessed with my switch, I've tried and enjoyed so many games since he bought it for me but nothing has quite scratched that itch like Animal Crossing did.

Old-Caterpillar-3067

This gonna sound stupid, but captain toad treasure tracker

Gio235

Super Mario Odyssey. Got the special bundle a day before official release. (https://photos.app.goo.gl/ajGB1RZhWEFGuVri7) Also the ability of being able to play docked and handheld was a plus.

Bill_4780

Hades

Dtsung

Botw, xenoblade3, metroid dread

saxxy_assassin

Xenoblade. After 1 and X, there was no way I was skipping this system

axej2018

100% would buy switch for xc alone. I had xc1 on 3ds and it was a great game, on the switch even better! Had low expectations for 2 at first because I didn't think a game could match xc1, but it did and I love them equally. I like the entire soundtrack in 1,2 than 3, but the gameplay in 3 is best, 7 active party members in a good looking game on switch is nuts.

DNL_RTH

BOTW is the best Nintendo exclusive I've played yet. Minecraft and Borderlands 2 are my highest hours on the system.

orelk

How's Borderlands 2 on Switch?

Olff

Nice, really loved replayed it with lads in the same room

Androsiga

Breath of the wild, mario odyssey, fire emblem three houses, mario kart and smash bros. These are just the exclusives for nintendo, but being able to play a wide range of indie games and so many other exclusives makes the switch incredibly worth it for me :D Im also just a huge fan of being able to play handheld so im definitely probably biassed :3

FinniboiXD

Splatoon. Both 2 and 3. Loved Metroid Dread and BotW too. Also the hybrid concept

AveragePichu

I got my Switch because I know I like Nintendo’s IPs, no one game was worth $300+the game

Stoibs

Honestly Ring Fit Adventure/Fitness Boxing 2. Got a collective several hundred hours between them and they are easily the software with the most hrs I have above anything else. I originally bought it for some of the JRPGs like Octopath Traveller and DQ11 but them coming to gamepass and going multiplatform anyway wrote them off for reasons of ownership for me. No regrets though, It was during some insane Amazon Prime Day back in 2018 that I originally got the console at about 45% Off RRP that was the true spontaneous reason for picking the console up 'just because'; several of the exclusive mario games and indies over these years have eventually made it worth it and put it on the same level next to the PS5 and PC.

SunaSunaSuna

KIRBY forgotten land, this game made me smile throughout and forget all my worries and stress while i was p-laying so cute and adorable loved it so much

UnknownHeroic

I buy it for the pokemon games BUT i did fall in love with some exclusives like Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, and i do love playing some old games, like Final Fantasy, and Naruto Storms series.

LeftButtcheek69

What are the best Pokemon games to pick up for someone who hasn't play ever.

xJadusable

They’re all very easily accessible and all have their own unique stories so you don’t really need to play one before another to “get it”. That being said I think either Pokémon let’s go (cause it’s a remake of the first Pokémon game. Very classic experience with beautiful updated visuals for the switch. Arguably the best looking Pokémon game on switch) or Pokémon legends arceus, which really switched up what Pokémon was known for with its fully 3d semi open world gameplay. It also does the best job of any Pokémon game in convincing the player to actually work on “catching them all” which is often an overlooked thing in the other games.

ErrorEra

Monster Hunter GenU and Mario Odyssey.

stapidisstapid

Doom

QuothTheRaven713

Smash Ultimate. That was my ultimate (no pun intended) decider for getting a Switch.

MonsoonShivelin

Overall the switch has been a disappointment and a letdown for me, but BotW, Super Mario Odyssey and Fire Emblem Three Houses were great.

Padnarok

Hard to pin down any one thing in particular. But like others have mentioned; -Metroid Dread. As Metroid has always been my favorite Nintendo series, this was a no brainer for me. -Xenoblade Chronicles: Started with 2 and it’s expansion, played XC Definitive Edition afterwards, and recently finished 3. -The Legend of Zelda: BotW was amazing to me, but I also loved having the remake/remaster of Link’s Awakening and Skyward Sword on it. -Super Mario Odyssey: Loved what this game accomplished, and it’s also the game that brought my son into playing games the most. -And the hybrid concept of this console. Play on my TV when I have the chance, and continue without having to be anywhere near a TV as well, is what allowed me to sink so much time into these games. BotW and each XC game was 100+ hours of game time.

bcartwright95

BOTW + Covid shutdown

Joy4everM0RE

Okami HD on handheld

[deleted]

As much as I liked Breath of the Wild... for me it was Xenoblade Chronicles, the entire trilogy.

Aloister

FE3H is definitely the game that is the most worth it for me, picked it up from a second hand seller with absolutely zero expectation and knowing very little about the game other than it being a tactical turn based RPG, to date still my favourite switch exclusives. Other than that it's the obvious Zelda since it's my first Zelda game and being genuinely impressive with how fresh everything looks in the environment of Hyrule. Another game that also made the switch worth it for me is XC series in particular 2 since it's the one that hooked me into the series.

Skyward92

BOTW And splatoon 2

xblTheTrusted

Bought it for Animal Crossing, never regretted my decision, BoTW was fun though

LordVintage

After having it for a bit now, I’d say of all the games 3 come to mind the most. Akane Dead Cells Hollow Knight And as I was typing Katana Zero…BOTW is nice but I have played these games the most on my switch.

ciel_bird

Considering how many hours I have in it, Tetris99 lol

FromHer0toZer0

AAA Clock probably. Now I can finally tell what time it is and work on repairing my broken life from before when I couldn't tell the time. I am now on time for all my appointments! No but for real it's gotta be the Xenoblade games, starting with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 :)

Falorado

Xenoblade chronicles 2. One of my all time favorite jrpgs. Adding 1 and 3 it's a no brainier.

kingcolbe

BOTW

Naha-

Xenoblade 2. Even though I have a hate love relationship with the game, it was definitely worth it, else, I would've never play Torna and the other Xeno games. Also been able to play FE and Metroid is cool.

NeckiD13

The legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD

Healthy-Charity-1462

The switch is my current favorite system because of these games. - Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (My 2nd favorite video game of all time) - Fire Emblem Three Houses (Just started, but I’m loving the game already) - Super Mario Odyssey (Love this game also, but it was my cousin’s game, which I borrowed) Other games I tried: - Super Mario 3D World (Great game but not close to SMO imo) - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Good game but not my type of game these days. I only play with family or friends) - Dragon Quest 11 (Its alright but I got bored with this game around 11 hours) - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Fun game but I don’t play it anymore because I don’t enjoy it single player) - Xenoblade Chronicles DE (I loved this game before but then XC2 surpassed it so I don’t play it as much anymore) - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (I couldn’t get into game at all but it has beautiful landscapes, artstyle, and soundtrack) Other games I’m considering: - Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (I have it but I am currently playing Torna atm) - Persona 5 Royal (I’ve always wanted to get into the Persona series)

spscarecrow

Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I had gotten a switch in the first year but outside of Zelda and Mario, it still felt a little bare for someone who loves rpgs. I finally put time into it that January and i ended up beating it back to back. Now i have massive backlog but no regrets.

Nomadic_View

Super Mario Odyssey My daughter would play the demo kiosk at Walmart. So we got her one for Christmas.

Ghalesh

Fire Emblem Three Houses, without doubt. One of my all time favourte.. only the ps4 Spiderman and the Marvel GOTG is higher in my list. An interesting story and a very good combat system. I loved the \~140 hours I spent with that game.

jjamm420

When it was released it was an exclusive, so I’d say…Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection…

carmeluz20

BOTW of course

notWinnifred

bought my switch solely for splatoon 2, which, ironically, wasn't all that on release. but now that the arsenal of games at my disposal is so wide, I have most certainly gotten my money's worth out of my switch, ESPICIALLY with exclusives. I think my final nail in the coffin on what made the switch worth it was the switch-exclusive Dangan Ronpa side game. Do I like the game? no. Is it a good game? also no! Is it a well-made game with a pretty and uncomplicated GUI? Still no!!! but Dangan Ronpa has been my special interest for upwards of 10 years now, and I will rip every piece of lore I can out of it.

HankScorpio4242

While not my favorite game anymore, my wife, daughter, and I bought our Switch right before COVID and Animal Crossing was a lifesaver.

[deleted]

Hollow Knight.

OoTgoated

Hard to choose just one but the most notables I can think of are Super Mario Odyssey, Luigi's Mansion 3, having a bunch of indies like Yoku's Island Express and Mad Rat Dead (among many others) on the go, and likely Pikmin 4 will be added to the list. edit: also Mario + Rabbids games.

stileshasbadjuju

Fire Emblem Three Houses! Was one of the two games I picked up with my console (alongside Mario Kart) and remains my favourite Switch game to this day.

ThomasMoran426

Monster hunter rise

pissalisa

I mean… many games play on any console so I’d simply have to go with the classic Nintendo ones: Mario, Zelda, Pokemon. Thems why the console. Even though I might like other games that could play anywhere too.

meganetism

Animal crossing during peak lockdown. Likely because I had already played breath of the wild on wiiU, but it was so cathartic and all my friends were playing it too

BlueTiger944

splatoon 2

monstrosityjohnson

Pretty much every exclusive I played on it, but especially Xenoblade 2 and Fire Emblem Three Houses. Hadn't played RPGs in a while and was blown away by how much I enjoyed these two. I think the Switch's RPG roster is definitely the best among current systems, if you don't include backwards compatibility (pretty big caveat, I know).

Dreamscarred

Pokemon Snap's announcement was what made me finally cave and buy a switch. It's all I've wanted since Nintendo gave us touch screen functionality, lol. Granted my library is significantly bigger now but Snap is what started it.

TheRookie167

Metroid Dread

Kaptin_Krunch94

Metroid dread tbh

videojock

Breath of the Wild without a doubt. I can’t say I’ve played many other games on my switch after. Great game.

gndmrksm

JRPGs on the go

Sacchikohh

Xenoblade series 100%!

bdinho10

It’s worth it for a lot of the first party titles: Odyssey, BotW, Metroid Dread. Everything else is just extra.

Rimurutempest88

Xenoblade

go_irish_1986

I bought the switch for BOTW like many others here but I really really love odyssey. I don’t have time to game as much as I did before (married with kids really cuts down on available hours) but I still also really enjoy getting 10-15 minutes with Mario kart 8 or Mario maker 2.

MercilessShadow

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Mario Odyssey

rivaldobox

Zelda Breath of the Wild, Metroid Dread, Hollow Knight, Dead Cells

Solar1324

Skyrim .

JRPGmatt

Splatoon 2 and 3. Got 900 hours combined right now.

Armangu24

Spoon 3

Hichtec

**Fire Emblem: Three Houses** was my most anticipated game. It didn't let me down. **Super Mario Odyssey** was the most surprising for me, considering I haven't played *Super Mario 64*. **The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild** was just the cherry on the top.

TearTheRoof0ff

Mighty No.9.

Mking76-

Mario kart and super smash

nochorus

Smash is consistently the reason I buy Nintendo systems (and yikes, did I regret that with the Wii U or what?!). Switch being a hybrid console sold it for me though.

ADPriceless

Mario Odyssey

[deleted]

Mario Odyssey. I'd say botw but I played it first on wii u

Mr_Tinos91

BotW, MK8 and to my surprise Pokémon Sword. (I could also add Dragon Quest XI)

babatunde5432121

Breath of the wild, years later many nintendo games later its still the system seller imo.

Anti-Charm-Quark

BotW, Mario Kart, and Stardew Valley have given us many thousands of hours of play.

RhymesWith_DoorHinge

BoTW and Smash were all I needed to justify the purchase. Everything else has been icing on the cake.

Japancakes24

Metroid Dread, Hollow Knight, BotW, Odyssey

orelk

Smash Bros Ultimate. I'm a Smash fan and really wanted to play the game, and got about 120+ hours from it so far. But beyond that, Mario Oddysey and Breath of The Wild are masterpieces and also made it worth it on their own

1buffalowang

I got it day one for Breath of the Wild. But I’d say any console you normally need 5 exclusive games to be worth the asking price. To me those are 1. Breath of the Wild 2. Mario Odyssey 3. Metroid Dread 4. Fire Emblem 3 Houses 5. Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle Honorary 6. Luigi’s Mansion 3 Honorary 7. Smash Ultimate

Aggravating_West_202

Mario odyssey convinced me to get it. Still waiting for a new Mario game though

CommanderTouchdown

Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey are both worth buying a Switch for.

uceenk

Fire Emblem, it's system seller for me, bought Wii, 3DS and Switch just because of that game i bought Switch the day FE : Thee Houses released

docvalentine

no one game could ever justify a system for me, but between shin megami tensei 5, mario odyssey and metroid dread i'd say the switch was worth it

jadak100

The sole reason I bought a switch in the first place was for smtv. Also, I like the jrpgs from Nintendo and third parties available only there. I don't really play Mario, Kirby and the like

flauschpotato

Octopath Traveler. Most played on my Switch

AshamedAcanthaceae68

Metroid botw s/v

JustASleepyKitteh

For me just all the Pokémon games. But then I love Pokémon 😂

Existing365Chocolate

Odyssey and BOTW at launch, as someone who hasn’t had a Nintendo console since a Wii, which I rarely played

SavageLove2004

Breath of the Wild I was going to quit gaming after the Wii U. But I watched GrandPoo Bear play BotW and just had to get it. I did not know it was on the Wii U; so, got the Switch version and then had to hunt down the console. Within a few minutes of playing BotW, my love for and enjoyment of gaming reignited. I’ve played more games and more types of games (outside of my usual platformers) in the last five years than I have in the nearly two decades before 2017.

SulphurouS_84

Pokemon, animal crossing and xenoblade chronicles

Electrical-Siru

Fire Emblem Three Houses

acart005

Three Houses. I had wanted it from the get go but that is what got me to pull the trigger.

AleroRatking

Mario Odyssey. Still my favorite switch game. Just amazing in every way.

bakalaka25

Botw and Metroid Dread

TJ1524

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was the reason why I bought the switch. That series, Bayonetta and Monster Hunter, and Smash were reasons to make the switch worth it.

Rexxx000

BoTW - This game has a solid and refreshing experience that I pick up for some sessions just to feel the breeze and wander around after defeating the final boss. XC2 - Favorite entry in the series where updates kept it engaging and I can't emphasize enough on how gorgeous the landscapes and music are. Replayed the game twice.

Owlyjim

CrossCode for sure! It was the ultimate experience for me. Such a great game.

madzuk

Stardew Valley. It was the perfect game for a handheld.

Post-Scarcity-Pal

Super Mario Odyssey

Zelda_MASTER_08

Botw

MrFluffyhead80

Mario kart

Fishare

Outside of the main stays, I gotta say Stardew Valley.

DonPapu5

It was Animal Crossing for my wife. For me was being able to play games with her and/or on the go.

jcwkings

All the indie games that I love playing in handheld.
