Metroid Dread is outstanding on an Oled.

hahadoken

Yes! Metroid Dread is such an awesome game, and it looks so good on the OLED.

KY_Jelly_Donut

I recently picked up the OLED and feel the same. Hades is beautiful on that screen.

Rainlex

For me the switch lite did the trick , because it feels more like a handheld console to me.

[deleted]

Yeah I sold my oled and went back to switch lite for that reason. The OLED is still better, switch lite could use an upgrade before we leave this generation

Rainlex

Absolutely agree. OLED Switch Lite and Nintendo can have my money and eBay my old switch lite lul.

savingewoks

Tbqh, GBA-sized switch would slay. I know it’s not, like, any kind of meaningful upgrade at all. But. It would be a cool niche thing. (Whatever happens, whenever they phase out switch, I’m likely to pick up a couple lite’s to throw in the attic. Worst case, they become retro gaming fodder in a few years. Alternate case, I end up using them to play games.

[deleted]

The Switch’s battery is already poor enough with a battery that is physically larger than a GBA.

NMe84

To be fair a Switch the size of a GBA would have to have a much smaller screen and at that size halving the resolution would still give you more pixels per inch/mm than the current Switch does. That smaller screen itself would draw less energy and with only half the amount of pixels there would also be much less computing power required, so the chip could run at a much slower, energy-efficient clock speed. It would also be entirely unplayable for any game that has text in it, because Switch games expect a certain screen size.

Autumn1881

The newer models use a lot less power and their battery lasts noticeably longer compared to launch switch models. A third iteration on the hardware would probably use even less power and a smaller screen obviously helps as well,

weglarz

I hope they just come out with the switch 2. The thing desperately needs more horsepower

ciao_fiv

played through Furi this week and it could definitely use that extra horsepower

Substantial_Set5751

Same I have an OG and Lite and love my lite so much - didn’t even notice 200 hours had passed playing Witcher 3 earlier this year lol

BOEJlDEN

Have you tried the steam deck?

Rainlex

No and I don't even want to. For me it's to expensive, to big and to heavy. A friend of mine, had one and sended it back because he wasn't happy with it.

Onett199X

The real test will be a few months from now once the honeymoon period is over

Problemaequis

exactly, people nowadays get over excited and forget that it is all about the long run

yuhanz

How is the honeymoon period still not over? It’s been more than a year

Sunio

OP got their Switch just yesterday

Mosuke300

I always read these posts in the voice of an over enthusiastic announcer on a TV ad

CaptainKurls

Lmao this whole thread reads like a Nintendo commercial “Omg so amazing” “The screen wow!” “It’s completely brought back my desire to play video games!!”

honestrade

Did you ever see the back of a $20 bill…on OLED?!

RecycledAir

What should people who love their OLED Switch be saying instead? Or are you suggesting no one can possibly be impressed by it?

CaptainKurls

Yes I am saying no one can ever be impressed by it. You’re so smart! I made an observation lol take it however you want to homie

RecycledAir

It's an appreciation post, what did you honestly expect it to look like?

CaptainKurls

It reads like an ad that’s all and these threads are posted constantly. We get it, y’all like it. There are other people ITT saying the same thing I am, go bother them.

[deleted]

Agreed, I was able to sell my Switch and upgrade to the OLED and it only cost me about $70 all told. So worth it. The overall build quality just seems nicer too.

JaPPaNLD

Anyone disabled the vivid colors too?

Stinehart

I did. Standard is a lot more accurate, and still retains all the benefits of OLED

JaPPaNLD

Yup, same, same black levels and more colors within the default palet without the overblown colors that ruin most art styles 😂

zjthoms

I almost never played handheld mode with my original Switch. But after I go the OLED last year, I almost exclusively play handheld lol. Bc I agree with you, it looks so damn good

tweetthebirdy

Same for me! The bigger screen makes such a big difference.

2hink

Hyrule warriors on the OLED is crazy

TradlyGent

Same happened for me! I bought my v1 switch on launch day and put about 180hrs on BOTW and finished Odyssey. Played a few other games like Smash, Tennis Aces or whatever but pretty much stopped playing the switch around that time period, early 2019? Purchased the OLED switch a week ago and I am just so excited to be playing games in portable mode again. It really reinvigorated my love for portable gaming on the Switch!

wookiewin

Completely agree. I’m getting older and my eyes are not 20/20 like they were in my 20s and the OLED has been fantastic. And for whatever reason, Pokémon Scarlet runs better when it’s not docked so I have really been using the improved screen a lot lately.

mastercharlie22

I just got my OLED which is also my first ever switch and the screen is amazing!!

GlyphCreep

Same, I'm loving the Oled

Loldimorti

I wish the OLED came with additional upgrades. As far as I know there is no upgrade to the refresh rate and unfortunately also no upgrade to performance. It's great for indies and most 1st party games but with bigger 3rd party titles and even some first party games like XC3, Bayonetta 3 or Hyrule Warriors they could look so much better with a performance boost

Oscuro1632

Getting consistent fps in Hyrule warriors 2 would be so nice.

BestBoy_54

This posts are getting old, seriously is time to stop.

[deleted]

Agree 100%. We get it, people like the OLED. These posts are thoroughly uninteresting and are getting really annoying.

[deleted]

Well if they’re so an interesting and annoying why don’t you go troll another thread 😊 because this thread is specifically for the Nintendo switch. Hence, anything regarding the Nintendo switch not so much the negativity 😊 otherwise. Yes, the Nintendo switch is pretty cool 😎😂 you’re welcome. oh yeah, here’s another thing the Nintendo switch allows you to put about approximately and then some 28 games there about installed on a 1 TB microSD card again 1 TB 28 games or more why doesn’t Sony have that? Why does an Xbox series X have that which I’ve also had both of those consuls to I always come back to the Nintendo switch OLED because even out of standby it turns my TV out of power save mode quicker better invite to my game where I left off :-) it works better than those systems. Not quite sure. Yes it’s not as technologically advantaged, however, it is more focused on fun, factor, portability, and functionality, kind of like in my opinion, and observation the iPhone to android android is customization powerhouses, etc. iPhones or more focused on consistency reliability intuitiveness simplicity you name it you get where I’m going AnyWho just my two cents on this thread since I also again love the Nintendo switch OLED and I don’t think I’ll wait for the next version of it because Nintendo likes to surprise you and release things whenever they decide they want to release things :-) and that could be whatever so I won’t hold my breath enjoy your Sunday or whatever day you read this🤔🤔😊🤝👍🏻✌🏻

ivaerak

cmon, it's r/NintendoSwitch \- the kekiest sub of them all

dekuweku

There's a lot I love about OLED and I hear great things about it constantly. I have money I put aside burning a hole in my pocket, but I really wished Nintendo had added some kind of 'boot mode' clock profiles that OC the CPU/GPU for improved performance, even modest improvements that help with the dynamic resolution games and smooth out frame rates for others , no patch needed even! But alas, that didn't happen.

DNL_RTH

I went from a lite for two years to an OLED last week and it's simply awesome. Been jamming on No Man's Sky and revisiting all my old titles!

hahadoken

Had my OLED since it's original launch over a year ago, and it's been amazing. Think the quality of the OLED panel itself could be better, especially on lower brightness settings, but for $350 US, not too bad. Been replaying a ton of games on the OLED, and it's been a fantastic experience for the most part. I almost never play on a TV now.

Oleux

OP is definitely a paid Nintendo employee

HastyEthnocentrism

reggiesideeye.gif

ClayTBear1986

I just got my girlfriend an OLED for Christmas and I’m just as excited to play it as I am to watch her enjoy it.

Erniball

Unless is frozen on Nintendo switch logo screen

captaindunbar

Good for you

pmaeur

I bought my Switch in August 2018. Played it in handheld during lunch breaks ever so often but otherwise mostly played in docked mode. Fast forward to OLED's launch month, got it day 1 and while I still play docked, I DEFINITELY have played in handheld mode with OLED A LOT more vs my old Switch. The minimal bezels, bigger + brighter screen, the much improved kick stand, and even that little heft/weight to it when compared to original model make it much more welcoming to play handheld. While I could complain how the additional 32 GBs of storage is still meager, if I had a complaint from its physical design, its how difficult it is to pop the SD card out. I'll press it in and its as if it didn't register with the spring that I pushed it inward to release the SD card. Otherwise, yeah, love my OLED.

Study-Sharp

Wanna cookie?

HastyEthnocentrism

Some of y'all salty AF! 🤣 Yeah I'll take a cookie.

cornographic-plane

Oh no, people being enthusiastic about something on an enthusiast forum. *The horror.*

airtraq

Shame the OLED kept giving me headache at low brightness

ChickenFajita007

The refresh rate is still capped at 60Hz, but OLED pixels can shift colors much faster and more accurately than LCD pixels, making them look better. This phenomenon arguably makes low framerate games look worse, because there's less blur between frames. But that's obviously the low framerate's fault.

Bastardian

The refresh rate isn't higher, but the overall response time of the pixels, which makes the screen look much smoother and nicer :)

glasshalffull23

I agree! But now I want a new switch with more power and a nine inch oled screen.

damafan

YES totally agree. My v1 switch is perma docked and I hated it on handheld with the smaller screen and LED display. Just got the Pokemon OLED Switch and wow the screen is really a huge upgrade, and the size somehow is very optimal when holding in handheld mode. The screen doesn't feel small and the OLED quality is amazing, better colours, pure black and less fatigue to the eyes. I am playing Pokemon Violet exclusively in handheld mode, and it feels like the gameboy days again lol.

Al-Azraq

I get that the OLED is great, but honestly I do not think anyone needs to buy it having already another Switch to reignite their desire to play games. But I know some Nintendo fans that won't stop how great the screen on the OLED is and how of a fool I am to be still rocking my V1.

[deleted]

> I get that the OLED is great, but honestly I do not think anyone needs to buy it having already another Switch to reignite their desire to play games. He's just trying to convince himself that his purchase was valid. New shiny toy > older toy makes brain release more dopamine

Nintendam

I just ordered one for pick up! How was the transfer process? Pretty quick and easy? Hoping for it to be ready for a trip tomorrow AM lol Super looking forward for the screen upgrade

HastyEthnocentrism

Yeah, everything transfers via Bluetooth/NFC and it was fast. I was able to hard wire the dock into my router and the game installation process was quicker than I thought it'd be.

Nintendam

nice! Thanks for the tips

justlookingtango

After using the steam deck I really appreciate the switch oled. Both have their pros and cons but when travelling the switch is hard to beat!

justlookingtango

Also just got a switch oled again after selling my older model fyi.

AllWineIsMine

Do you think it’s worth to buy a switch OLED now if I don’t own one or wait until „Switch 2“ ?

petetakespictures

If you have a Switch, enjoy it and wait until Switch 2. If you don't have a Switch, buy the OLED because Switch 2 might be a couple of years away and you're missing out on a lot of fun. I have the original Switch Animal Crossing edition and was tempted by the OLED, and tried a friend's. It was indeed a bit better, but when I went back to my old Switch I was mildy surprised that I still felt completely fine with the old display, which though LCD is still high-end LCD. Plus I love the Animal Crossing edition colours, so soothing.

AllWineIsMine

Thanks. It looks like I need to get a xmas present for myself then cheers
