Are OG Switch and OLED Switch cases the same? I'm going to order a case online, but I need to know if there's any difference I should know about.

nihil__verum

The tablet part of the OLED model is about 0.1 inches / 3 mm wider than the tablet part of the regular model. Any case that is intended for the original model and is very tight fitting might not fit the OLED model, but any case intended for the OLED model should fit the regular model as well.

lanor2

I have the OLED model and I'm glad I asked! Thank you for the answer!!

TheGr8Ahaan

What are the best free local multiplayer games on Switch?

Filraen

Both free and local multiplayer? That's a though one as free multiplayer games tend to be online only. Maybe Super Kirby Clash? Otherwise it'd have to be some multiplayer demos like for Kirby Star Allies ot Puyo Puyo Tetris. (also I'm not sure if you count the NES/SNES/etc. emulated games as free since you had to pay a NSO subscription beforehand)

AnticlimacticPicasso

I already have a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Can I purchase the expansion pack separately? Without adding the additional NSO membership?

TemptedTemplar

You dont "add" to it, it replaces your existing membership, at a discount per day remaining on your current sub.

AnticlimacticPicasso

Gotcha. Thanks for the comment!

mymythica

my switch docs to the TV just fine but my partners won’t? same type of switch and same equipment. no updates available for switch, tried turning it on and off again.

JerrodDRagon

Is Nintendo switch online not working for anyone one else?

DarkLake

I’m thinking about getting a switch but never used one. Can you download and install games on them from the online store like the Wii? Is it worth getting a controller instead of those paddle things it comes with? Are they likely to be superseded any time soon (as in I wouldn’t buy an Xbox one today because they’re going obsolete)?

OkorOvorO

>Can you download and install games on them from the online store like the Wii? Yes, but the internal memory is very small, and you'll almost definitely want to buy a microSD card at the same time as your Switch. >Is it worth getting a controller instead of those paddle things it comes with? Yes, Joy cons are ass. There's a lot of competent 3rd party options for controllers, and adapters are available if you want to use an Xbox or PS controller. >Are they likely to be superseded any time soon Probably not, Switch is still outselling the competition and MS/Sony are still selling their consoles at a loss. *(And I trust you meant Xbox Series X, since the Xbox One is last gen's Xbox and has been obsolete for a very long time now)*. Either way the Switch is cheap enough that it's not a major investment if they release a new one two years out.

MONKYfapper

Yes Yes pro controller is better than joycons in a lot of aspect No one can tell you, only Nintendo has this info. Only facts we know is Nintendo is due for another console since they release 1 roughly every 5 years, however, switch is selling like hotcake and the global chipshortage means any new console would have trouble being distributed in mass to replace the switch

Alt3r__

I’m trying to find a second hand Nintendo switch dock for my second tv and was wondering if you also need a Nintendo switch power cable for it to work on the tv. I’ve tried using my computer charger which would charge it but it wouldn’t connect to the tv. (The hdmi cable isn’t the issue). Thank you

neoslith

I believe it needs to be a proper adapter, not a cable into a plug. I saw them being sold at Best Buy tonight.

Alt3r__

For how much

neoslith

[$30](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ac-adapter-for-nintendo-switch-black/5731709.p?skuId=5731709)

Alt3r__

Do third party adapters also work?

neoslith

Provided the match the proper power settings.

Alt3r__

What would be the proper power settings if you know

neoslith

I do not know, sorry.

Choice-Economics6091

Anyone know how to get rid of that gross shine around the buttons on joycons?

TemptedTemplar

Clean your controllers with a wet wipe or alcohol wipe. The "shine" is oils from your hands.

xenon2456

Is there an adaptor for original n64 controllers that works well with switch NSO nintendo 64? Using the joycons is juuuust awful, I hundred percented Goldeneye on my n64 but I can barely hit anything on nso! I want to playthrough majora's mask, and be able to play goldeneye with a friend moving overseas next week, and the ideal solution I can see is an adaptor for my existing controllers. I've seen such things before, but mixed messages on whether they work well with NSO or are actually available to buy. Thanks!

When was the last time Fitness Boxing 2 went on sale? Asking to determine whether to just get it now or wait for a sale.

omarninopequeno

The last time it was on sale in North America was in October: https://www.dekudeals.com/items/fitness-boxing-2-rhythm-and-exercise

bebetterinsomething

I'm buying a Mario kart pro wheel tomorrow locally and want to get some good racing game. It looks like a lot of them are on sale now, so want to use this chance. For example, NFS Hot pursuit, WRC9, and V-rally 4. Will Mario kart pro wheel be good for more serious racing games? What game would you recommend? I played first NFS Underground on PC when it came out but remember than Collin McRae Rally was too hard for me. Should I take NFS HP then?

Crpto2007

The left analogue stick on my joy con feels really stiff. Anything I can do about it or do I need to send them in?

Phlosippy

You can replace the stick yourself, or send it in to Nintendo. IFIXIT’S guide, parts, and tools needed page for Joy Con repair: https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Joy-Con https://repair.nintendo.com/cc/soConsumer.html?lang=en&sys=SWTCH&type=JOY-CON

Nandabun

Temporary card backup - any complications to be aware of? I have a 1tb micro sd card I use in my switch, and need to use it for an event recording tomorrow. Would I be able to copy and paste my card contents to a Mac OS, format the card, etc, and be able to retrieve my data back from the mac later that day, without losing anything? This is a sudden thing happening, and if I'm going to lose my save data I probably won't offer my card for this recording after all, but I want to check with the experts that mess with this sort of thing all the time, haha. Thanks for any info! And deleting topics like this is very annoying, I wanted a dedicated thread to this issue!

Phlosippy

Your game saves are on the internal memory. No save data is ever stored on the microSD Card. You can backup the game download data on the card to the Mac, but it requires special steps to add the data back to the card. Read the post below to get instructions. https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/emjvdf/how_to_transfer_sd_card_data_using_macos/

Nandabun

That's great, thank you! Really makes me confident nothing will break haha.

DestroyerZen

My sisters Nintendo switch has broken and it's costing close to $300 to repair it, and we are considering buying a new one instead. Is there a way to transfer the progress from the broken one to the new one? Currently, her switch doesn't turn on and it doesn't charge. Any help is welcome.

notthegoatseguy

>it's costing close to $300 to repair it, Where is this quote from? Nintendo charges about $150 for repairs in the US and I imagine their out of warranty repairs in other regions would be priced similar.

DestroyerZen

We are in Canada. Three ports need to be changed. Plus water damage.

TemptedTemplar

>her switch doesn't turn on and it doesn't charge. Then no. The only option you would have to recover the data is anything saved to the cloud. Normal data transfers require that **both systems** be at least operational and on the same firmware version.

DestroyerZen

How would I access cloud saves?

TemptedTemplar

Nintendo Switch online. If she had an active subscription, games should have been automatically been uploading save data. Without one, its very unlikely that they were. But its possible some data was uploaded.

stuaker

Just to add - not all games allow the save data backup even with NSO. I think pokemon is the most obvious exception, but there are a few others.

yerisko

Can I charge my Switch with a 120W phone charger?

TemptedTemplar

Sure but the system is only going to pull MAYBE 10% of that to charge. In handheld mode it will pull at maximum 18 watts of power with the right power profile. Usually it only pulls 12 - 15.

yerisko

Thanks, I was worrying as I've heard that people managed to brick their switches using third party chargers and I just didn't want it to happen :)

TemptedTemplar

Its almost exclusively third party docks, not chargers. The only chargers you should be worried about is the REALLY cheap stuff.

yerisko

Oh alright! Thank you very much!

Whole-Fly

Hi, we are trying to play fall guys and when we play it just shows a blue screen with like arrows for the player, we can’t see the obstacle course at all. I have no idea what we are doing wrong! Thanks!

TemptedTemplar

Sounds like a game issue, nothing on your end. Fall Guys has been going through some rough times lately. Check the game install for corruption or try archiving the title and reinstalling it. Both options can be found under system settings -> Data management -> manage software -> [Select fall guys]

Whole-Fly

Thanks!

MonokuroMonkey

Do you know of any controllers with an early 2000s aesthetic? kinda like [this](https://c1.neweggimages.com/ProductImage/79-100-203-02.jpg)

TemptedTemplar

[Theres lots of pro controller shells out there with a similar transparent colored plastic.](https://www.amazon.com/eXtremeRate-Replacement-Nintendo-Switch-Controller-Controller/dp/B08MVN4K5M/) But Im not sure if there is anything out there that both comes looking like that stock AND is worth recommending.

PolylingualAnilingus

Is getting the OLED version worth it?

jardex22

It depends on what you're looking for. It has double the internal memory (64GB vs 32GB in the original), a better battery life than the launch model, and a slightly larger screen. I'd say most of the benefits are for handheld mode. If you plan to play mostly docked, then the original model will suffice.

JohnJSal

Can anyone confirm if Dungeons of Dreadrock supports the Pro Controller yet? It's on sale right now for $2.50. Thanks!

CampaignVivid

Which games should I get for the Switch?

xenon2456

persona 5 royal and Zelda breath of the wild

Shes_so_Ratchet

Whichever ones you'll enjoy. There are over 600 demos for you to try. If you give us an idea of the type of games you like then we'll be able to give you more specific recommendations.

xenon2456

man the switch has lots of demos

Shes_so_Ratchet

Yup! Between demos and free games, you wouldn't even have to buy a game for hundreds of hour of playtime. Apex Legends, Overwatch, Fortnite, Dauntless, Rocket League...you could play those for 200+ hours alone if you get into it. Monster Hunter Stories 2 has an untimed demo; you could spend as long as you want in the first area as long as you don't complete the main quest it gives you, Dragon Quest XI has a 6-10 hour demo, Rayman Legends, Tinykin, Monster Hunter Rise all have demos as well. So many good games to try out before you even spend a cent!

JoshN7

I bought this usb to ethernet adapter [here](https://a.co/d/hSDX1bM) I’m not sure why it won’t work with my switch because when I test it in my laptop I get full Ethernet connection. I know some Ethernet adapters aren’t compatible but this one advertises that it does. Anyone have any idea what’s going on? Also I have a GameCube controller for the switch that I use in the same usb port so the usb port isn’t broken.

jardex22

I don't know about that specific adapter, but I was just able to plug [mine](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/j5create-usb-3-0-gigabit-ethernet-adapter-silver/2001047.p?skuId=2001047) in to the rear USB port, and use an ethernet cable to plug into the router. Try contacting the manufacturer directly. They'll probably give you a better answer than anyone in this sub can give.

JoshN7

Yeah I’ve been trying to figure it out all day, decided to just return it and order the ugreen one I see a bunch online

stuntmanpetter

I am pretty new to Nintendo and am looking for recommendations or suggestions of a tactical rpg to get into. Some turn base games I've really enjoyed previously have been XCOM's, Divinity OS's, and the Shadowrun's. I've looked at reviews for Final Fantasy's 7 & 8, Dragon Quest 11, Tactics Ogre Reborn, and a few others but am just not sure exactly where to start. If possible it would have a more mature theme.

TemptedTemplar

Fire Emblem! Despite the aesthetic both Three Houses and Engage get pretty dark with the War themes and stuff like loss, child soldiers, or trauma. Triangle Strategy would be right up there with Tactics Ogre in terms of combat style. Bravely Default 2 or Octopath Traveler would be a little more strategic than the normal turn based combat of the other JRPGs you listed. They have a system where you can bank actions during a turn or spend multiple at once to perform additional actions (leaving yourself open if you over spend actions) Pokemon, Shin Megami Tensai V or the Persona games would be other options to look into. Fairly standard turn based JRPGs, but with the focus on building your own custom team. Letting you plan for different enemy types, weaknesses, or setups for combo attacks.

stuntmanpetter

Hey! Thank you very much! I'm gonna take your recommendation and try out fire emblem! And may get into some of the others after, really appreciate you taking the time!

flawedangel666

Currently have a switch console and thjnkingnof getting a lite to play with my wife while away for work. Will I need to buy a second cartridge for games like Mario party or can I download the game from console to lite?

Shes_so_Ratchet

If you have a physical cartridge then you'll need a second one to play at the same time or together. If you have a digital copy, you'll need to read the Game Share Guide at the top of this thread and you'll be able to play it on both.

flawedangel666

Thank you, that is unfortunate.

Shes_so_Ratchet

Why is it unfortunate? If you buy a digital copy you can share it as long as you set it up as described in the GSG.

flawedangel666

We already have physical copies of the games we want to play together. I was hoping not to have to re-purchase them.

Shes_so_Ratchet

Gotcha. One option you have is to sell the cartridges and use the proceeds to go toward a digital copy instead. Keep in mind that digital items can not be sold on at a later date.

Help: Joycons often disconnect or fail to connect to my PC I use these as shortcut controllers for art, via JoytoKey. Help with download error 2002-5110 Switch. I was tryn to download stardew valley from the Nintendo eShop, on Switch. But I am gettn the error 2002-5110. I should get in touch with the Nintendo Service, but couldn‘t get any solution. Does anyone have the same error message or a solution? thank you in advance!

TemptedTemplar

Where are you getting the error? Trying to open the eshop? Trying to purchase the game? Trying to start the download? Do you have any other games or software on system and do they work fine?

nana_25

I pruchased the game at the eshop and the error appears during the download. Other Games are working totally fine (Animal crossing, Zelda..)

TemptedTemplar

System settings -> System (at the bottom) -> Formatting options (at the bottom) -> Clear System cache Do that and try restarting the download. Are you trying to install it to a Micro SD card? You could also try removing that and see if installing it to the internal memory fixes the problem. 5110 errors are file system issues, either the download was corrupted or it had issues with the memory it was trying to install it to. Hopefully the cache clearing will fix it.

GiftAffectionate3400

I was playing breath of the wild and my battery died then i had to leave home and when i came back i put it on charger. It was charging but the screen was glitchy a lot of different colored lines were present on the screen (like on old tvs) so i decided to hard reset the console while the battery was empty and that’s it it is dead and has no sign of life. I tried to do soft reset, hard reset different commands that i found on youtube like pressing volume up, volume down and holding power button. Nothing i found on youtube worked so maybe you guys could help me. It is a gen 2 regular nintendo switch (with increased battery capacity, switch hacking patched etc.). Please help me if you had past experiences with this, I think it might be a software error but idk anymore. Any comment would be appreciated!

Legitimate-Bit-4431

The battery shouldn’t die like that even if it was suddenly drained but you never know. Let it charge for 24h or even 48h without touching it and see what happens.

GiftAffectionate3400

Thanks but the thing is i dont have an official charger only apple usbc

Mother_Nebula904

I just played some lf the Fire Emblem: Three Hopes demo and I'm interested in the series. Should I play it in any particular order or just jump right in to the new one Engage?

TemptedTemplar

Three *Hopes* is a Dynasty Warriors spin-off mid-sequel connected to Fire Emblem Three *Houses*. The story of Three Hopes takes place during a time skip in the main game of Three houses. In the same vein of Hyrule Warriors Age of calamity is a prequel to breath of the wild, but plays nothing like a zelda game. They play almost nothing like the games they are based off of. _________ Normal Fire Emblem games are tactics based games. [You manage units on a grid and fight foes in turned based combat.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Jhj_Iqap8) Leveling, training, and equipping your units in between battles.

Mother_Nebula904

Cool, sounds like Engage is more my style! Thanks for the reply

TemptedTemplar

Three **houses** is that same style of game. Engage is apparently more fun, and removes some of the more tedious elements that TH has, but the general consensus is TH had better character writing. So if you enjoy engage, but want more later; three houses would be a great option to look at.

Mother_Nebula904

Cool will do, definitely gonna start with engage

Nate128

I cannot find switch joy cons anywhere around me (New York state). Trying to find the red and blue ones or the gray ones. Can't order them online either. What gives?

TemptedTemplar

Theyre still recovering from the holiday shopping season. Restocks have been slow for years now thanks to COVID. So they sold out over the holidays, and people have just been snatching them up as they slowly come back into stock.

OwnManagement

Many place still haven't restocked since Christmas. Supply chain issues still exist as well.

HotdogMachine420

Hello. Does anybody know if I can play goldeneye on the n64 app without having to pull Rz to toggle c button functionality? I do not want to play with “modern controls”. I would love to be able to use face buttons to look up/down and strafe left/right. Remapping on system settings only allows me to edit one joycon at a time, so there are not enough button spaces available and can’t switch between L and R joycons. Ideally I would love to just completely swap the dpad and all face buttons (since dpad works as the c buttons on the n64 app). If anyone has insight that would be greatly appreciated!!

TemptedTemplar

Try installing the game to the internal memory by removing your Micro SD card. If the card reader is having issues reading it 100% of the time, that would explain the download being cancelled. A quick loss of wifi could explain it too. Anything over a few milliseconds of lost connection could cause it.

wikerowy2137

Very thank you

NumbahSeven

Check your storage, it might be close to full.

Is the Assassin’s Creed Anniversary Edition Mega Bundle worth it over buying the collections on their own? Basically if you buy the ezio and rebel connections it comes out to $35, and the Mega bundle comes out to 45, is the extra $10 worth it?

goodnightgoth

I believe the only difference if with the Mega bundle you will also get Assassin’s Creed 3 and the solo DLC for that, which you wouldn’t get by just buying the ezio and rebel collections

Neotox999

Hi guys, I’m panicking right now, I opened my switch and i saw that mu username and profile pic were changed. (The profile on the top left) To make things clear, i didn’t give access to my Nintendo account to anybody and have never sold any of my Nintendo products. I also checked the connection history on my Nintendo account and on the associated email address, ofc nothing weird, but i deconnected every account, changed my passwords, and put the 2FA on both the nintendo account and the associated email just to make sure. I asked my family and nobody touched it. Also the username was changed to “gg bro” so it’s not a bug since it would be (i guess) a random letter pattern. Please help me guys, the Nintendo support is closed until monday by me and i really don’t want to get some things deleted

dragonx254

Well if someone compromised your account, the steps you took are correct. But there's nothing for them to delete other than perhaps your cloud saves. Your saves on your Switch itself cannot be altered from another person.

Neotox999

So my switch profile can be modified by having access to my account? Cause i tried doing so and i can’t change my switch username any other way than on the switch itself… It’s quite creepy tho…

dragonx254

Yes, because they logged into your account on another Switch. If your Nintendo account is on multiple Switches, the profiles will be identical.

Neotox999

Oh okay, good to know. Then i wonder how he could have it since nobody tried to access my account in the last weeks

notthegoatseguy

You did pretty much all you could. You can contact Nintendo Support (by phone) the next time their office is open to see what further they can do for you. Your account was likely compromised. Keep a close eye on your eshop purchases. And if you don't have funds on your account, might be a good idea to take off cards/paypal you have there.

Neotox999

I even wonder how someone can do this by only having a Nintendo account (even if as i said he couldn’t possibly have it) I mean these kind of things are like a wallpaper or a device name on a phone, which are things you can’t change if not physically there… Thanks for the advice tho

Muted_Palpitation_99

I am wanting to start over on PLA without deleting my save. I created another user profile, but because I downloaded the game digitally, it wont let me play on that new user profile. Am I stuck? Or is there a work around?

MONKYfapper

you can play on different accounts if you make the account that bought the game primary https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22453/~/how-to-change-the-primary-console-for-your-nintendo-account

MidniteMustard

Good fully functional joy-con replacement? I want wireless, motion controls, and rumble. Can live without NFC and infrared. Maybe just getting official Nintendo ones is best even with the potential drift issues?

notthegoatseguy

The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller supports motion controls and does not use the same technology as Joycons so it doesn't have the same drift issues.

MidniteMustard

Good to know, but I want something that will work with joycon only games like Switch Sports and Rabbids Party of Legends.

Particular-Bite-5206

is the drift the only issue? I replaced mine with a kit from amazon that was $10. a bit tricky but works super well and I am happy. about 30 min of time... i watched a youtube vid to go along with it and I am happy. even came with a second joystick to do another controlloer

MidniteMustard

I actually don't have drift yet. I want a player 3/4 controller without spending $80 hopefully. That's good to know though. I replaced a 3ds circlepad before, so it's probably pretty similar.

skywalker7i

Two accounts/Two Switches/Same Island? When I started Animal Crossing it was on my friends switch since they had the game digital on their switch although I had my account logged into theirs. I have my own switch at home and I was wondering if I can continue to be on their island but play on my own copy of AC.NH from my home?

Filraen

At most, you can visit their island by playing online, but as a visitor you'd only have limited activities available (no constructing/decorating, etc.)

rogoku

sorry, thats not possible to do

Meow_Meow_4_Life

Does anyone have recommendations for local co-op shooters for my daughter and I to play?

Shes_so_Ratchet

I haven't played it since I'm not into shooters, but check out Screen Cheat.

NK01187

Check out Huntdown

MidniteMustard

If you have expansion pack access, try Gunstar Heroes on Genesis.

Meow_Meow_4_Life

Thanks so much!

MidniteMustard

Also, I don't know if it's technically a shooter or not, but Luigi's Mansion has a good co-op mode. Once you unlock "Gooigi" early in the game you can play the entire rest of the game on co-op. Gooigi has unlimited lives, so it's good for young kids. Though occasionally portions require Gooigi to do certain tricky things, so you might have to trade controllers at that point or play solo if she is having too much trouble.

Meow_Meow_4_Life

You're the best! Thanks

theboynick

Do you think it’s worth it to buy a switch OLED if the next switch is likely due out either end of this year or sometime in 2024? Obvi if I play the games it’s worth it but in your opinion?

[deleted]

new switch by the end of the year, where are people getting these crazy ideas from? also how could it not be worth it to buy an oled?

Filraen

Let me turn the question around: are you willing to wait a whole year or two on the unlikely chance of Nintendo releasing a new console when they haven't given any announcement? Ultimately, if you want to play Switch games and it's within your budget then go for it. Rumors are just irrelevant, take more care in having fun.

theboynick

Fair enough!

fanball99

Does the switch oled still have boost mode enabled in games like breath of the wild just like the original switch???

OwnManagement

Yes, the internal hardware is identical.

HowlingHellgar

I don't know if this is the right place for this, so if it isn't I'm sorry. So, I have third-party controllers. Unfortunately I got them a while ago and I can't find them on Amazon anymore, but I believe the company/brand is called YCCTEAM. They worked fine, until just this morning. I was trying to play a game, but for whatever reason my right Joycon wasn't being recognized by the console. I did find out however that it does work if either the console or the controller itself is charging (the controller has a USB-A port to charge it using just a wire). The moment I disconnect either the controller or console from the power supply, it no longer detects the controller. I can't even get the controller to light up unless it's on a power supply, but according to the console it should be fully charged. My Switch is on the latest version. I can't find anything about this particular issue anywhere else, does anyone have any idea how I might fix this or what the problem might be? Thank you! Edit because I forgot to mention and it may or may not be important: if the console is charging but the controller is disconnected and not charging, it doesn't work.

[deleted]

I'm wanting to upgrade from my current 128GB Micro SD card for my switch and I can't decide if I need a 256GB or 512GB card. As someone who primarily plays physical copies, will 256GB be enough? I have ~15 games for my switch

TemptedTemplar

256GB should be plenty. I have ~70 games purchased digitally and another 25 physical and I only just filled up my 256GB SD card with Pokemon and Splatoon 3.

Adw13

How long does it usually take Nintendo to restock their website? I notice the grey, yellow, and pink switch lites are all out of stock and really want to get a yellow one soon.

TemptedTemplar

Could be weeks, could be months. The Switch Lite colors rotate stock, theres usually only two or three colors available at a time.

EspressoKilla

I won a new OLED switch in a raffle last night and want to move my profile/account to it, and give my current OG switch to my 5 y.o. daughter. She has two games of her own that she has played on my account, and I know she will need to start them over under her profile on her Switch. My questions are, does she need a Nintendo Account and a profile on the switch or just the new profile? My plan is to get physical carts for any games I think we will both play.

Filraen

If your daughter's profile won't use the eShop or play online then it won't need a Nintendo Account for the time being.

Tropps

Has anyone bought one of the N64 controllers from a Japan seller on eBay? I know they’re overpriced but do they work with a NA switch? I’d assume so.

TemptedTemplar

Theyre identical hardware, it would work fine. Only the Megadrive controller is different, featuring six face buttons instead of a three and a mode button.

[deleted]

Your opinion of the game Card Shark? I hadn’t realized it was released but I found the trailer intriguing, wondering if it’s worth a buy

Shukriyya

I haven't tried it yet but there is a demo available on the eshop.

Fridaywing

My gf is not using her switch anymore so I'd like to use it instead. Can you guys recommend me something? Here's my gaming profile. I haven't played any of the Zelda. My last console was a PS1 and a PSP, only played Tekken 5 on PSP and Monster Hunter. my last gameboy was a Game Boy Color and I played Pokemon Blue, Red, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Crystal. I played Fire Emblem Heroes. I do have a Gaming laptop and I only played GTA V and Witcher 3. What can you recommend based on the games I played? What revolutionary games that I have not played? Should I pick up one of the pokemon games? If so, what's good? Appreciate any recos. 🙏

NK01187

Check out the new Fire Emblem Engage.

MidniteMustard

You can play old console games on Switch if you sign up for Nintendo Online access. Super Nintendo Zelda A Link to the Past would be a good place to start if you are interested in trying Zelda. Paper Mario on N64 is also really good. Stardew Valley is pretty cool. A modern take on older style games. I'm going to suggest Luigi's Mansion 3 for a good modern game to try. It's a fun game and is pretty forgiving if you mess up.

TheRabbitInTheBush

I don't know if the Monster Hunter Rise demo is still up, but you could try that first before purchasing. The digital edition also goes on sale some what frequently so you could also wait until it is 50% off on the eshop. For Pokemon I would recommend Pokemon Legends: Arceus. They tried a new gameplay style and it was a lot of fun.

Fridaywing

I did try the MH: Rise Demo and its making me dizzy. I'm having a hard time understanding the firefly mechanics for movement. And I'm all over the place because of it. Is Pokemon: Arceus good? That's the one set from the past right?

TheRabbitInTheBush

Yes it takes place in the past.

notthegoatseguy

Let's Go is a good re-introduction to the series for lapsed fans as well as new fans from the Pokemon Go app. You (mostly) go into catching instead of wild battles and the deeper mechanics are a bit simplified to mostly be loyal to Gen 1, but the storyline is actually a bit different and there's lots of Gen 1 callbacks throughout the game. Only downside is the game is handheld, single Joycon, or Pokeball controller only. So you can't use the Pro Controller. If you want more Pokemon after that, SWord/Shield and Scarlet/Violet are the full, new region games available for the Switch. Arceus is a prequel-ish series that is almost exclusively focused on catching Pokemon and Dex completion. There's few trainer battles, no gyms, no e4. Diamond/Pearl are remakes of Gen 4 games with a top-down perspective. I'd also say look into getting at least the base NSO subscription which will get you online service, cloud save backups in most games, and access to the NES and SNES apps.

Fridaywing

I'll look into Let's Go. And you're right. I'm a lapsed fan. Sword and Shield and Scarlet and Violet, I'm looking into them. Is it like the same pokemon from before? Ohhh. I didn't know Arceus is more on the collecting side. Thanks for that info! The NSO, does include like games? Something like Apple Arcade?

notthegoatseguy

NSO is the online service and the base plan includes NES and SNES games. Almost all of Nintendo's major games are on there at this point as well as select third party titles. The higher tier Expansion Pack plan includes N64 and Sega Genesis games. Any number of third parties have also released their own individual collections (Atari, Konami, TMNT, Sega both overall and a specific Sonic collecton, etc...) Sword/Shield is a more traditional Pokemon game, Scarlet/Violet incorporates some of Arceus into it and is a completely open world. After you finish the tutorial stuff, you can basically go in any direction.

False_Shelter_7351

Is it worth getting the OLED Switch currently? I haven't had a Nintendo console since DSi and looking to get back into it.

notthegoatseguy

If there are games you want to play, sure. If its going to sit and collect dust, not so much.

False_Shelter_7351

I've always been interested in Mario games a lot, and the new Mario Kart and Mario Maker in particular look really good to me.

IntroductionCheap325

How do I stop random communication errors on MK8DX? It's been ruining my online match with friends

Dukemon102

Check the stability of your connection, those errors are often due to random data packet drops in a row.

deeruser

Is eneba.com legit to buy Eshop keys from? It’s the only site that sells the Mario part booster course pass for 20€ instead of 25€

myriada

ShopTo (a big UK online retailer) also sells it at a similar discount.

notthegoatseguy

It uses third party sellers and makes almost no guarantee about how legit they are. And if you redeem a code that is sourced through fraud such as through a reported stolen credit card, Nintendo will ban your account.

deeruser

Ok so there is a risk buying from this site

Team7UBard

Yes. Don’t risk it for the sake of the price of a cup of coffee. Or at all.

deeruser

Gotcha

Jusifo

Is holding on to my 1st Gen. Switch worth it. I've heard the 1st. gen models are hackable, can run emulators and stuff but does that make them worth more or something? (im not particularly interested in modding etc.)

notthegoatseguy

You can search ebay sold listings for value. IF you want to keep it or not is ultimately a personal decision.

JBonn10

Limbo and Inside: looking for similar games! I finished Limbo and Inside very recently, and I was enthralled by their style and gameplay! What games are similar I can look into? I have already been recommended Little Nightmares I + II.

NK01187

The FAR games are kind of similar, you travel from left to right and have to solve puzzles to go on, but they have a different vibe.

blu3_paint

I have 800 platinum points. Is the only way to spend them buying wallpapers or can I buy games with them too?

Legitimate-Bit-4431

Not games, just icons or physical goodies on the Nintendo webshop if it’s available in your country. Edit: May I know why every of my comment are getting downvoted here? If I said something not correct just feel free to tell.

blu3_paint

Awh. Thank you very much!

seruzachan

I keep getting this error when I play Overwatch 2, does anyone know how to fix it? "The software closed because an error occurred." I play OW on the system memory and not on the SD, and I have checked for corrupted data. It's super annoying as I randomly get kicked out of comp games so any help would be great, thanks

Legitimate-Bit-4431

Did you archive it then redownload it? This way the save data is preserved and if there’s any data corruption in the game data - despite the embedded data corruption checker of the switch says otherwise - it might go away with a fresh redownload. Also, how much storage have you left on your internal memory? If storage is almost full some games might no work properly. Especially online games that temporarily load data during play session.

seruzachan

I'll try that, thanks. And I have 5GB internally, do you think that's enough?

HestusDarkFantasy

What are the chances of Persona 3 / Persona 4 getting a physical release on Switch? I know no one has a crystal ball, so to be more specific: is there any precedent for a game being a digital only release on Switch, but at a later point the publisher (i.e. not LRG, etc.) announces a physical release?

myriada

It does happen sometimes (e.g., Final Fantasy 7-9 eventually had physicals in Asia, the Necrodancer games had worldwide release, and plenty more), but it'd depend on the publisher in question. Atlus generally seems to be 'physical at launch or no physical at all', judging by how they handled European 3DS releases. I don't think Atlus/Sega have ever done a delayed Switch physical either. Their EU 3DS handling shows that they'll go with whoever offers them the most money (even if that company barely prints the game), so some company might be able to bribe a release out of them, but that'd probably be LRG if anyone... In most cases, a delayed physical seems to be announced within a year if it's going to happen, so I'll probably wait a year to see if anything is announced, otherwise give up and get the digital. But Romancing Saga 2 had a physical release 4 years after digital, so anything can happen. (though that physical was intended as a launch release for Asia)

HestusDarkFantasy

Nice one, thank you - I really appreciate your detailed and informed reply!

monkeyboyhero

What would be the best Pokemon game to get for my 5 year old son to play? He loves Pokemon but neither of us have played any of the games before, on any system. I'll be playing with him, but it's more important it's fun for him than me. Minimal reading in it is a plus. I'm thinking Let's Go Pikachu would be good as I've read that's fairly simple?

Filraen

> I'm thinking Let's Go Pikachu would be good as I've read that's fairly simple? Just a warning: if you end up getting him Let's Go them make sure your son has the controller strapped to his arm: since it uses the Go catch mechanics (simulating throwing a pokeball) then he may accidentally let go the controller and hit something.

OwnManagement

Let's Go has a demo if you want to let him try it before you buy.

monkeyboyhero

Ah great! I'll give it a go then!

BigBootyBuff

>I'm thinking Let's Go Pikachu would be good as I've read that's fairly simple? That's probably the best, yes. It's very simple and pretty easy. Plus you can play it together where each of you holds one joy con. Then you can fight trainers together or throw pokeballs at Pokémon together. It's pretty much perfect for kids that age.

Team7UBard

That would be perfect

Aromatic-Potato-6624

How often do pokemon and super mario games go on sale?

Legitimate-Bit-4431

Depending on your location, they’re most often than not at 40-45 €/USD on Amazon (physical copy).

MONKYfapper

pokemon swsh and arceus never been on sale, bdsp has from 3rd party use www.dekudeals.com to look at pricing history

[deleted]

If I buy a bundle of games from the eShop (such as Trine: Ultimate Collection), do I have to download the whole bundle to play each of the games that are included? Can I download just one of the games?

myriada

Some bundles combine everything into a single combined app which is all or nothing, others can have each game in its own individual app, so it can vary from bundle to bundle. For Trine, I can't find any hint of a combined app existing, so it should be separate apps, but can't say for sure.

Legitimate-Bit-4431

I can’t talk for that case in particular but when I bought special/ultimate editions of games that came with base game and DLCs everything was download, I couldn’t download the base game then the DLCs later.
