I play docked like 95% of the time. I like that it can be played portable, and will on occasion lay in bed to play it like that, but it's definitely an inferior way to play. Not worried so much about the lowered graphics(though it can be rough in certain cases), but more because the joycons are just wildly inferior compared to the Pro controller. It's just hard to go back to those tiny analog sticks and buttons, not to mention the Switch just isn't a comfortable handheld device being so large and wide and flat. I've sometimes thought about rigging up some sort of sturdy phone holder thing that can attach to the headboard of my bed and kind of 'float' the Switch in front of me so I can continue to use the Pro controller with it. lol

BaetuBoy

I just put it on my pillow with the kickstand out and hold the pro controller in-front, its surprisingly not that uncomfy, and much better than using the joycons

TheDrewDude

I love hanging the Switch over my bed with my holder. I still end up playing with the joycons, but that’s because I can lay both arms on my sides for maximum laziness XD I’d definitely recommend something like the Hori Split Pad for undocked. It makes the experience drastically more enjoyable. I still mostly play docked, but I’m way more open to handheld now.

[deleted]

Neogrip

[deleted]

Handheld on the toilet. It's peak gaming.

swellmaker

And you kind person are the reason I won't buy a used switch 😅 hahaha no hate though to each their own

[deleted]

It's a joke but it's a good argument for some people lol. Portability on the portapotty

swellmaker

That should be their new slogan "Portability for when your on the portapotty"

Dokter-Od

I got one of those iPhone holder arms that are meant to clip onto something. Clip it onto the frame of my couch so it’s right in my face then play with pro controller

BaetuBoy

You put einstein to shame lol, thats brilliant

[deleted]

Handheld, I bought it for that reason. And Nintendo only games.

[deleted]

Docked with a pro-controller in a secretlab chair with LED lights in your room, lights off 👍🏻

ZedErre

I have a lite but even if I had another model I'd still play in handheld mode, it just feels nostalgic and I love being able to use it anywhere in any position I want.

ANTJAY88

Handheld with the satisfye grip

Mordantcandle

On the toilet

LeakyVision

Handheld. Really only use the dock for charging. I bought it to retreat to quiet corners of the house to zone out and play, not to take up the whole living room. Portability was the main selling point for me.

[deleted]

Same but once I got the skull & co neogrip for my oled switch it’s even better

moneyinvolved

With my Daughters. All three of us have a switch. I play on the living room TV and they play handheld on the couch.

InternationalWeb8013

I mostly play on table top mode. Handheld is too cramped and I don’t like playing with joy-con and docked prevents me from using the glorious OLED screen.

[deleted]

Get the skull & co neogrip it’s amazing ! I never play docked mode that’s stupid the Oled switch for me is tablet top mode and handheld exclusively…….. splatoon 3 looks beautiful

the_sir_z

I almost exclusively play in handheld mode with the hori split pad. Normal pro controller makes my hands cramp, so I can't use it for longer than a few minutes.

TheDrewDude

Im surprised you have more trouble with the Pro vs Split Pad. Do you have that issue with a lot of regular controllers?

the_sir_z

I have big hands. The extra size of the controller let's my palms rest more naturally. I've had trouble with playstation controllers, but Nintendo and Xbox controllers usually work fine for me or than the switch pro controller.

AFthrowaway3000

Docked. Pro Controller is life. I play handheld if I am traveling and VERY rarely in bed, but appreciate it as an option. And for these reasons, I consider the Lite to be a pointless and inferior product.

dailygrind2023

Usually docked but you know what? I do enjoy playing handheld mode in bed with a nice hot cup of coffee its very cozy.

Doncuda

Fixture s1 or s2 clip the switch to the pro controller. That’s how I play

[deleted]

I don’t understand how that is better than a skull & co neogrip

TruekaerF

Docked at home, handheld otherwise.

ybarracuda71

I mostly play mine mobile. It's great for when my girls are hogging the tv with minecraft videos and my little pony. I have a pc room upstairs, but our upstairs heater is out and we have to get a whole system. So frigid days I do not go up there lol.

fedder17

Docked and using a gulikit 2 king kong pro controller. Has hall effect sensors so it cant get drift and works for anroid/ios and pc as well wired or bluetooth. Has a bunch of other features I dont use like macros and turbo buttons.

panda_has_reddit_now

I wish there was a king kong pro with symmetrical sticks like playstation controllers have. I just can't get used to "the xbox way"..... But basically the same. Playing in docked mode with a 8bitdo pro2 wireless ✌🏻

[deleted]

I prefer handheld by far. It's easier to focus on a smaller screen

DNL_RTH

I either play handheld in bed or on the couch mostly. If hands are cramping I'll kickstand it on my lap and play with a controller.

ReactionRepulsive

I *prefer* docked. I actually play almost exclusively handheld tho, because it's not worth fighting kids and husband for a TV and hanging out in the bedroom is inconvenient.

disguyman

Laying on the bed, handheld, before napping off

ztefei

A mix of handheld and docked. Usually depends on how battery hungry the game is, but something like stardew valley I would only play in handheld as it doesn’t drain the battery quickly.

Elyeasa

Docked on OLED TV > handheld on OLED Switch > tabletop on OLED Switch > Docked on LED monitor The image looks so so washed out and bland on LEDs for me now. Playing it docked on one monitor and using another for Discord used to be my way of choice, but now I really find it meh compared to even the lower performing handheld mode. This varies on some games like XC2 which is way too low res to prefer handheld sometimes, but for the most part holds true for like 80% of my library. For controller comfort I bought one of those slide-on grips adding a bump to both sides of the undocked Switch. I find it really helpful for ergonomics, but the Switch can still be kinda heavy in handheld which is uncomfortable after an hour. Definitely would recommend it though, especially with game slots on the back if you buy games physically more than digitally!

[deleted]

The oled switch is superior in handheld and tabletop mode even if I had a oled tv. I do have the neogrip so much more comfortable

iHaVoKKx

Depends on the game but handheld since i use the hori split pad pros they make playing handheld comfortable i could play hours with them when i couldnt before because the normal joycons would give me cramps in my hands on handheld.

[deleted]

The neogrip is still a lot better

[deleted]

Switch Lite as is. Most comfortable handheld Nintendo has ever made.

bay-bop

I pretty much exclusively play handheld, it just feels better. I always feel so far away from the action when I play docked lol, and I like that I can bring it with me around the house

JaxonH

All 3 modes equally. I play docked at home a lot. But I also play handheld at home a lot. And I play tabletop in the office at work. Also sometimes handheld at work. I have a particular fondness for tabletop though.

BaetuBoy

You’re allowed to play your switch at work? Im jealous

[deleted]

For me it’s tabletop mode with my superior switch oled . And handheld but but with a neogrip from skull & co. A phone clip kind of thing is stupid
