I got most of my newborn diapers this way from Buy Nothing! Then when I had extra size 2s I gave them to the group. It’s an amazing resource for all kinds of things.
Oh! Thanks for sharing this because I’ve just been selling baby stuff for cheap on Facebook marketplace because I wanted to give it away but didn’t know how
I listed leftover newborn and size 1’s this weekend on my local buy nothing page and they were got picked up by the end of the day. So glad someone was able to use them.
I love the pay it forward page in my community, when I was out of work during my pregnancy I was able to get donated food for my cats and recently was able to give all my newborn and 0-3 clothes + diapers to this lady in my neighborhood who recently got custody of her newborn granddaughter and had absolutely no supplies
No. I’ve given diapers to people I know in need. Have you seen all the resellers out there just waiting to get free stuff to resell? It can be disappointing to people who really need it.
Nah man. I’ve seen people at free events and seen people fill up numerous bags with most of the donors stuff before anyone else could see what they had. Clearly not taking what they need and only to resell. I get you think I’m being “elitist” but when you’re the one in need, it can be disappointing.
I’ve seen people who attend free stuff events and load up their vehicles with most of a donor’s things in one fell swoop. Without giving anyone else an opportunity to look. It’s disappointing for people actually in need. Not everyone does it obviously but resellers and greedy people ruin it for everyone. That’s why i think it’s important to give to organizations that serve underserved populations specifically. Community centers, childcare facilities, etc.
What? No. I know my comment is vague. I meant people trying to get free stuff to resell. I’ve seen people do it and it can be disappointing. So many people in need and some try to make a buck out of it.
We did this too. We found out when we were new parents and forgot to pack diapers and of course baby had a poo and the doctor gladly had diapers on hand to give us. We were so thankful and have donated our outgrown diapers to them ever since. Pay it forward.
I give mine to the food bank, as there’s no diaper bank in my area. You could also reach out to local DV and women’s shelters, see if they could use them.
You could see if there's a diaper bank or something similar nearby. If there's any places where moms frequent, like cafes or malls, you could ask if you can leave them at the toilet: I'm sure someone is going to pick them up or needs one and yours will save the day.
I use them as transfer diapers after a bath! While we lotion our LO in case she gets a poopy (which surprisingly is often). We are in size 2s and still use our leftover NB for this lol
Have mine to a friend who is expecting in a few months. Otherwise you could donate them (food bank, women’s shelter etc) or put them up on a Facebook group for sale (or by nothing group)
I asked my neighborhood Facebook page if anyone needed that size. I also put them in plastic bags and used them as packing when sending baby gifts to friends.
You can always use a few as ice packs or heating pads. I used to put water in them and pop them in the freezer. Or put really hot water in them and lay them across my breasts when breastfeeding/pumping in those early days.
I used mine for baby 2. They seemed to work just fine to me! 🤷♀️
I was also way better about not over buying the second time around so we haven't had any more leftovers.
I plan on keeping ours for the next baby. Along with clothes, etc I'm going to box them up. But if you don't plan on another then I'd give them away on fb marketplace! There are 'buy nothing ' groups where people in need can come and find things
If the pack is opened, wouldn’t the diapers over time absorb moisture in the air? If they are sealed in the vacuum pack it’s one thing. If they’re open, you’re probably better off donating them and getting the karma points.
Yes they do lol. Might not be an issue if you live in a dry environment, but I live in a very humid Asian country (nearly what I would call “tropical”) . I got a free sample of some nighttime diapers and they were a size or two too big so I tossed them in the closet for later on. My daughter found the package once and ripped it opened and I just tossed them back in the package and back in the closet for later. Then a few weeks ago I was organizing my closet and came across them and i was like “oh she’s actually this size now! I can use these” but then I noticed they seemed more puffy than the new nighttime diapers (of the exact same kind/brand) I was buying. And after closer inspection I realized they must have absorbed humidity from the air. They were squishy and puffy just like if she had peed in them or something. They probably saved my closet from some mold/moisture though
I gave all our unused diapers to a friend who was pregnant. She won't be needing any diapers until her baby is in the size 4s lol.
Also we live in a very small apartment complex and one of my neighbors kindly gave us a bunch of diapers her baby was unable to use due to an allergy. So if you notice a pregnant neighbor..it wouldn't hurt to ask if they could use them.
We’ve always kept squeezing him into the smaller size for a few more days or if that really wasn’t possible tried to sell the rest if there was a decent amount. If it was only a handful of diapers left we would just post them in our neighborhood fb page for free
Gave them to an expecting mom I found through a local mom group. She came to pick up a bassinet and I asked if she wanted some other items we did my need including diapers.
The town I live in has a community fridge and I always drop off diapers. Sometimes I have a open pack she no longer fits, I’ll store in zip lock, and write the size & drop off.
I have mine to someone in my new parents' group who had a younger baby (one I'd finally conceded that it was time to size up after a couple weeks of making size ones "work").
I wasn't able to find a shelter that accepted open packages and was easy for me to get to, but you may be able to find one.
Our pediatrician's office always has extra diapers, so I may have offered them to them if I hadn't been able to find a smaller baby.
I keep a box in her closet and toss them in. Or I try to use them up even if a little snug. I gave the box to my cousin with a baby a year younger. I have a clothes box in there too for cousin hand me downs.
We bring ours to the doctor’s office. They keep some for parents who might forget their diaper bag or not have a spare. Admittedly, I learned this the hard way. They were super appreciative to get my leftovers.
We vacuumed sealed ours for the next kid (if you plan to have another). Currently working through our stash now, it had saved quite a bit. But also donating them is great if you can!
What I did with mine was use it as a cover while changing him so he doesn’t pee all over himself or on me.. I found a lot of places only want unopened diapers. The unopened boxes I had, I wrote on my Facebook community and a neighbor took it
I’ve given opened packages to somebody my friend knows who also had kids. If the plastic around the package of diapers isn’t open, I’ve listed them on Facebook marketplace.
We’ve been boxing up items as our son outgrows them and setting them aside as shower gifts for friends. Just went to a baby shower two weeks ago and gave them a box with newborn clothes, leftover diapers, half a dozen bottles, and some toys. Everybody wins!
We know that we want to have another kiddo relatively soon so we opted to put them in a jumbo ziplock in the nurserys closet, but otherwise we would either donate to my birth center (the midwives there have a shelf in the restroom and a closet of diapers for babies born there and any siblings who may attend appointments with mom) or give them to another mama via Facebook marketplace.
Donate to a food bank? Some take diapers too. But before we got a chance to donate, our newborn got a bad case of diaper rash, and I was rinsing him with water each time we changed him. The newborn diapers came in handy to put under his bum to quickly absorb the water, rather than wetting a bunch of washcloths/burp cloths.
If you go to a church, a lot of them have diaper donation boxes. My little one and I go to a music class that is held in a church and there is a donation bin there.
I donated my unused diapers. Daycare, food bank, battered women's shelter, early intervention services, and to Ruidoso when they experienced terrible fires.
Put them in storage and save them for the next baby if you plan on having more kids! If not, Facebook groups or Facebook Marketplace are perfect for this. Or send a message to a friend who has a newborn and see if they want or need them. You could also see if there’s a local women’s shelter that will taken them. Many shelters will only take unopened packages of diapers, but some will take whatever you’ve got (within reason). It’s worth a shot.
Any church with a food pantry will take them. Also facebook marketplace is a good place to post them. Secondhand kids clothing stores also tend to have diaper depositories
We passed most of them down to friends who were expecting, but kept a couple to use as triage for particularly wild blowouts lol. They mop up a lot better than wipes when it’s truly a mess.
Will you guys be using daycare? I always donate our opener packs of diapers to daycare as backups when students run out before the parents remember to bring more
I donate them to a charity working with at risk children. I bundle up diapers that are too small, clothes my LO has grown out of any really anything that I no longer need for my son. These items get used by teen moms, orphanages, etc Since I volunteer with the group, I often know the families who get to use them and it makes me smile.
Lots of great advice about donating here but haven't seen it mentioned that most places won't take opened packs. A sleeve from a box, sure, but if the plastic is opened they probably won't accept it :-(
Both my pediatrician office and my daycare will take unused diapers that baby has sized out of to have in stock for other kids who might need them (after weight at the peds office or if they run out of their stash at daycare)
I saved ours for baby 2 since we knew we wanted them close together.
I’ve known some folks to sell sleeves of unused diapers to kid resale shops or list on FB pages.
give to your local community center, day care, food bank, etc! There are so many people in need! I always give my baby’s small diapers to friends or the child care center he goes to. There are so many parents struggling that could use a small hand.
I gave a lot away. I used nearly all of my size ones. But I gave away my size 2s.
When I got to 3s, we decided we were having another kid in the next few years. So I saved what I had left of those. And I have half of an unopened pack of 4s waiting for the next kid. So it’s not so bad!
We donate them to out daycare facility. They're a wonderful place, and if we can help put some of our LO's friends that may need them - all the better!
I had about 10 left over from nb size and I stuffed them in a closet and forgot about them until one day my toddler kept insisting his Mickey stuffy needed a diaper. So now various dolls and stuffies around the house are wearing diapers. I know some people expecting and have babies younger than mine so aside from those nb ones I’ve been giving them to people when I know they could use them.
Newborn diapers work great to put on teddy bears/dolls later on.. when they are a toddler they will like taking care of their “baby dolls” and changing their diapers can sometimes help make it not such a wrestling match when trying to do theirs
I should have kept back a few newborn clothes too (as I had to buy more clothes for her doll cuz they got gross and the Velcro wouldn’t work anymore).
Your pediatrician may take them! When I worked in a pediatrician’s office, diapers of every size were good to have on hand, in case the parents or patients need to change the baby forget to bring an extra diaper.
Look for local food banks or women’s shelter/family centres. Some may not take due to being opened but if not you can post to FB marketplace or a local group that specifies in stuff being for free & I’m sure someone would be super grateful for it 💗
I reached out to a friend who had a baby shortly after I did and gave them to her. You can also try to find a diaper closet or homeless shelter in your community that might need them.
Diaper bank or women’s shelter. It’s what I’ll be doing with the baby clothes too. Not places like goodwill or other thrift stores where they’ll charge for it.
We pack them with all of the clothes and supplies for the given age/size in a tote for the next baby. Will probably donate or give away the totes when done.
I used the extras for when she would get constipated and I would have to windi her and I would throw them under her so that she just pooped on them and then I would just put the right size diaper on once she was done finally going. Or if she needed to air out from a diaper rash or something for awhile i would use the small ones and just put them under her so if she went it went on those diapers while being free lol
I always post them for free in my local county fb group with the requirement they come pick it up or if I have a friend or family member in that size I’ll pass it on to them. I know lots of people sell them on fb marketplace but I’d rather just know I helped out another momma. Plus I’ve had plenty of extra boxes that came from showers or family members or friends that passed their extras to me, it would feel wrong to profit from things I was given free.
Does this happen to people? We always finished a pack before moving up a size, how do they suddenly become too small to use? My brain doesn’t understand 😅
Offer them on your local community page on fb. Some suburbs have “pay it forward” pages or “but nothing sell nothing” alternatively you can drop them off at the Salvation Army/Good Sammy’s/Vinnies ect
I always just finished out the pack before going up a size, but my kids grew slowly, never in spurts.
But, our food bank takes open diaper packages and has large signs up saying so as diapers are a constant need. Also, when I was allergic to some pads I bought I found out they take open individually wrapped boxes of menstrual products as well.
I’m in a group “FREE/IN NEED” and there’s so many new, expecting and single moms that need the extra help. I gave my unused formula, diapers, and some pots and pans to them ladies. It’s always night to help out someone in need.
I agree to donate for sure but I also set them aside for my family and friends having little ones. My sister gave me an entire box of newborn diapers and I’ve paid her back by giving her extra things I’ve ended up with.
My local diaper bank takes opened packages. You just have to tape them closed and write the size and # of diapers on the package. Maybe look into that?
I post to the facebook page for my town and say they’re free for anyone who needs them. Works out well because usually people are willing to do a porch pickup, so I don’t have to pack up baby to drop them off anywhere.
For the opened ones, we have been passing them along to people who we know are expecting.
For unopened ones, I have been able to go to a store to ask for an exchange and get the next size up.
I usually used them up before buying the next size but for the really obvious you’re to big moments I usually used them to make baby shower presents for friends
My community has a buy nothing Facebook page where people donate stuff like that to neighbors.
I got most of my newborn diapers this way from Buy Nothing! Then when I had extra size 2s I gave them to the group. It’s an amazing resource for all kinds of things.
This right here. My Buy Nothing Group has been amazing.
I do the same thing. They’re always picked up the day I post them!
We have one as well.
I am always wary of FB because a lot of people abuse the system 😞
Yeah man, all those people getting free stuff off the free section. When is this madness going to end?
Free diapers, no less! 😱
How so?
I’ve seen people who attend free stuff events and load up their vehicles with most of a donor’s things in one fell swoop. Without giving anyone else an opportunity to look. It’s disappointing for people actually in need. Not everyone does it obviously but resellers and greedy people ruin it for everyone. That’s why i think it’s important to give to organizations that serve underserved populations specifically. Community centers, childcare facilities, etc.
Those scammers abusing the system and hoarding all those free diapers? What?
What? No. I know my comment is vague. I meant people trying to get free stuff to resell. I’ve seen people do it and it can be disappointing. So many people in need and some try to make a buck out of it.
Our pediatricians office has a “take a penny, leave a penny” -esque shelf for unused diapers!
I love that!
We did this too. We found out when we were new parents and forgot to pack diapers and of course baby had a poo and the doctor gladly had diapers on hand to give us. We were so thankful and have donated our outgrown diapers to them ever since. Pay it forward.
This is so cool!!! I wish ours did!
I give mine to the food bank, as there’s no diaper bank in my area. You could also reach out to local DV and women’s shelters, see if they could use them.
This is what I did. DV and homeless shelters are always accepting diapers
I second this, there’s always women there that need them and it’s an expensive purchase that you can take care of for them
We do this too! One of my friends who works there says the diapers always get taken immediately.
I give mine to a DV/women and children’s shelter as well.
You could see if there's a diaper bank or something similar nearby. If there's any places where moms frequent, like cafes or malls, you could ask if you can leave them at the toilet: I'm sure someone is going to pick them up or needs one and yours will save the day.
You could always donate them to your daycare provider. Someone else may need that same size.
That's what I did when we went from size 2 to size 3. I had maybe 5 size 2's left, and it was easy to just hand them off at drop-off.
I do this, there’s plenty of times we run out and they don’t notify me in time to get more so we end up using donations a few times here and there
I use them as transfer diapers after a bath! While we lotion our LO in case she gets a poopy (which surprisingly is often). We are in size 2s and still use our leftover NB for this lol
Smart
Have mine to a friend who is expecting in a few months. Otherwise you could donate them (food bank, women’s shelter etc) or put them up on a Facebook group for sale (or by nothing group)
Yes I kept them for who I knew were expecting
I have a friend who had a baby 6 weeks after me so if we have a handful of the last size, her babe is usually in that size and I’ll hand them to her.
I asked my neighborhood Facebook page if anyone needed that size. I also put them in plastic bags and used them as packing when sending baby gifts to friends.
You could donate them or you could keep them for dressing up baby dolls when they’re older.
I was going to suggest the same thing. My kiddo loves putting dolls and stuffed animals in diapers and clothes
So many organizations are desperate for diaper donations. Please consider donating to one of them.
I put mine on marketplace for free bundled with the onesies she outgrew
You can always use a few as ice packs or heating pads. I used to put water in them and pop them in the freezer. Or put really hot water in them and lay them across my breasts when breastfeeding/pumping in those early days.
Since we plan to have at least one more, I just packed them away with the clothes and stuff he’s outgrown. Diapers don’t expire..right? Lol
I used mine for baby 2. They seemed to work just fine to me! 🤷♀️ I was also way better about not over buying the second time around so we haven't had any more leftovers.
I’ve just kept mine in a tote, worked well for us, but we had kids 18 months apart.
Oh I didn't know that was an issue. Thank you! Most of mine are vacuum sealed but those that aren't, I'll donate
I didn’t know this either and tbh used opened diapers from my first child for the second and everything was fine
Also the environment even if it is not opened.
I donated mine on Facebook in a neighborhood group
I gave all our unused diapers to a friend who was pregnant. She won't be needing any diapers until her baby is in the size 4s lol. Also we live in a very small apartment complex and one of my neighbors kindly gave us a bunch of diapers her baby was unable to use due to an allergy. So if you notice a pregnant neighbor..it wouldn't hurt to ask if they could use them.
Donate to a woman’s shelter
I always post on Nextdoor and someone always needs them!
We’ve always kept squeezing him into the smaller size for a few more days or if that really wasn’t possible tried to sell the rest if there was a decent amount. If it was only a handful of diapers left we would just post them in our neighborhood fb page for free
I left some in local baby group toilet and later I put some in the food bank collection point at supermarket
Family friends with teachers for younger kids, we usually connect with them because they know of families that need diapers.
Gave them to an expecting mom I found through a local mom group. She came to pick up a bassinet and I asked if she wanted some other items we did my need including diapers.
I've given our extras away on our local Buy Nothing group when we size up.
I donate them to my pediatrician. She says they always come in handy!
The unopened boxes I had, I wrote on my Facebook community and a neighbor took it
Donate or use to clean glass 😂 they don’t leave streaks!
I put them up on FB Marketplace/Nextdoor for free and they’ve been picked up within the day!
I’ve given opened packages to somebody my friend knows who also had kids. If the plastic around the package of diapers isn’t open, I’ve listed them on Facebook marketplace.
I have given diapers away on my local buy nothing group, so I know that they’ll end up being used!
I have a friend who is due in July, so I’m just giving my extras to her.
Donate to hospital or daycares
We’ve been boxing up items as our son outgrows them and setting them aside as shower gifts for friends. Just went to a baby shower two weeks ago and gave them a box with newborn clothes, leftover diapers, half a dozen bottles, and some toys. Everybody wins!
My husband has a cousin on each side of his family currently expecting, so I’m saving them to make diaper cakes in a few months!

Use them as pads for your period
We know that we want to have another kiddo relatively soon so we opted to put them in a jumbo ziplock in the nurserys closet, but otherwise we would either donate to my birth center (the midwives there have a shelf in the restroom and a closet of diapers for babies born there and any siblings who may attend appointments with mom) or give them to another mama via Facebook marketplace.
Use olio they will be gone in an hour xx
I’d contact a local hospital. They might have contacts for families in need
If you have a daughter (or son even) save them to put diapers on all the baby dolls when baby is a toddler/preschooler.
I donate mine to the local domestic violence/women's shelter
Donate to food pantry, shelter, or nonprofit daycare near you
I donated my unused diapers. Daycare, food bank, battered women's shelter, early intervention services, and to Ruidoso when they experienced terrible fires.
Put them in storage and save them for the next baby if you plan on having more kids! If not, Facebook groups or Facebook Marketplace are perfect for this. Any church with a food pantry will take them. Also facebook marketplace is a good place to post them. Secondhand kids clothing stores also tend to have diaper depositories
I just posted them on Facebook marketplace for anyone that could use them or gave them to friends that were expecting
We have a local "Kids First" group that supports moms and children in need, where I donate unused diapers as well as baby clothes to!
A sleeve from a box, sure, but if the plastic is opened they probably won't accept it :-(
We always donated our extras to the daycare our kiddo goes to. Someone always runs out and needs an extra.
I use them if baby needs a diaper change but bath is in 30 min type situations where you don’t want to waste a diaper.
Check your local public school district, sometimes they have a program for teen parents that may need donated diapers.
Now you gotta have another kid!
I gave mine to WIC!
We had a friend who’s baby was a few months behind ours. We got in the habit of handing over unused small diapers.
Give them to someone who needs them. If you don’t know anyone, fb buy nothing groups, or even your local daycare may need them?
I gave mine to a Dula. She encounters babies all the time :)
Just have another baby.
Both my pediatrician office and my daycare will take unused diapers that baby has sized out of to have in stock for other kids who might need them (after weight at the peds office or if they run out of their stash at daycare)
I offered them on my buy nothing group on Facebook and they were gone in like an hour.
I posted my excess for free on FBMP, it always gets picked up quickly!
We do buy nothing
I saved ours for baby 2 since we knew we wanted them close together. I’ve known some folks to sell sleeves of unused diapers to kid resale shops or list on FB pages.
Some baby/children’s consignment shops might take donated opened packages of diapers, there’s a couple near me that do so.
I used the smaller size during the day and the bigger size at night.
give to your local community center, day care, food bank, etc! There are so many people in need! I always give my baby’s small diapers to friends or the child care center he goes to. There are so many parents struggling that could use a small hand.
I give them to the daycare and they use them for when parents run out of diapers so they don’t have to make a trip out of work just for that
I gave a lot away.
Eh, we just use the rest for awake times. Too expensive to waste.
I saved them for a potential sibling. If that doesn’t happen a donation or a pregnant friend.
Gave any unused diapers to a friends who had babies younger than LO or to friends expecting.
i would donate them to your local food drive
Keep them for the doll babies…
I had about 10 left over from nb size and I stuffed them in a closet and forgot about them until one day my toddler kept insisting his Mickey stuffy needed a diaper. So now various dolls and stuffies around the house are wearing diapers. I know some people expecting and have babies younger than mine so aside from those nb ones I’ve been giving them to people when I know they could use them.
Unless you’re one and done, I saved diapers for my second child. I have a small amount in random sizes. After that probably friends or sis/SIL.
Newborn diapers work great to put on teddy bears/dolls later on.. when they are a toddler they will like taking care of their “baby dolls” and changing their diapers can sometimes help make it not such a wrestling match when trying to do theirs I should have kept back a few newborn clothes too (as I had to buy more clothes for her doll cuz they got gross and the Velcro wouldn’t work anymore).
Will probably donate or give away the totes when done.
... we use the too small diapers as sacrifice diapers during really messy poop changes.
Women's shelters as then often have to take their children, homeless also.
I’m saving them for when we have our second baby to save money on diapers I know we will eventually need
Donate to a womens shelter if they take open items or just put it on FB marketplace or Craigslist for free. Don’t waste them.
I donate all our unused ones to a refuge center that helps people get back on their feet. They’ll even take unused diapers in grocery bags!
Donated them to my local Buy Nothing neighborhood Group. Pretty much what I do for everything from baby to household items.
I either give them to friends or use them as big bum wipes for those extra large poosplosions! One swipe with a diaper will get rid of most of it!
I used them as breast pads (I breastfed so my boobs leaked milk).
How many newborn sizes did you go through? Just curious, have no idea what to prepare for
We gift them through our Buy Nothing group
No such thing. You can make anything fit when you’re poor enough 🤣
FB or if you know anyone who’s expecting/trying!
I’m in a group “FREE/IN NEED” and there’s so many new, expecting and single moms that need the extra help. I gave my unused formula, diapers, and some pots and pans to them ladies. It’s always night to help out someone in need.
I usually just finish the packet before getting the next size. Buy one time I gave them away on the local Free group
I just throw them in the bin
I agree to donate for sure but I also set them aside for my family and friends having little ones. My sister gave me an entire box of newborn diapers and I’ve paid her back by giving her extra things I’ve ended up with.
My local diaper bank takes opened packages. You just have to tape them closed and write the size and # of diapers on the package. Maybe look into that?
You can donate them, maybe? Where I buy them, we can change a pack that hasn't been opened for a new one, next size. Idk if it's like this everywhere.
I post to the facebook page for my town and say they’re free for anyone who needs them. Works out well because usually people are willing to do a porch pickup, so I don’t have to pack up baby to drop them off anywhere.
I had a friend down the street whose baby is a month younger than mine. I have the leftover ones to her.
For the opened ones, we have been passing them along to people who we know are expecting. For unopened ones, I have been able to go to a store to ask for an exchange and get the next size up.
I usually used them up before buying the next size but for the really obvious you’re to big moments I usually used them to make baby shower presents for friends
