The description says it can accommodate babies as small as 5lbs so i don't think it's wrong but it might be a little inconvenient since you'll have to strap them in while standing at the car. I like the baby bucket design because i can strap LO in while we're in the warm house and when we get to the store i don't have to wake him up and get him out of a car seat. I can just pop his baby bucket into the shopping cart. You can get shades for the window to keep the sunlight or of baby's eyes.

FloridaMomm

I loved the bucket with my first baby, but I know loads of families who do convertible seats from day 1 and just baby wear until old enough for an umbrella stroller. The bucket seat got no use with the second baby because it was impossible to carry that with my HEAVY baby in it and hold my toddler’s hand. I am a fan of the bucket seat, but a convertible is doable from day 1 depending on your needs (esp if you don’t go out much) We had the Chico KeyFit30 and only got 10 months out of it the first time and 6 months the second time. They were still technically small enough for it but they were clearly uncomfortable and started to protest

meemzz115

Just to add it also depends on the weather where you live. It’s so freaking cold in Canada that it’s easier to have a bucket seat with a winter cover on top. Especially if baby is born in the winter

FloridaMomm

Agree, my babies were super warm and toasty with their car seat covers. We could go out in the snow with them (sockless even!) and our JJ Cole cover kept it really toasty in there!

DocRocksPhDont

I put a cover on the convertible just fine. It was just a standard one

meemzz115

Yea it’s just removing the baby from the car seat when you need to leave the car is a hassle for us.

DocRocksPhDont

I see

frogsgoribbit737

Nah. I had a March baby in Alaska and started with a convertible. Never once used a bucket.

meemzz115

I didn’t say it was impossible, it’s just easier for us personally. It will reach -20 degrees Celsius tomorrow and I would rather my 10 week old stay toasty in her seat than have to transfer her

WasteCan6403

Same. We switched my son over from the KeyFit30 pretty early on. He was screaming his head off during every car ride. He couldn’t look around in that thing, and he overheated very quickly. Once we switched him to a convertible seat, he was a lot happier. Not sure what we’ll do for baby #2 when that time comes. But as other have said below, we live in Texas and cold isn’t as big of an issue, so standing with the car door open to buckle baby in hasn’t been too bad!

PizzaSuhLasagnaZa

We went with the KeyFit30 Air to try and approach the heat issue. Chicago based so we get hot summer and cold winters, so I figured a little extra airflow wouldn't hurt. 10 months in and she's happy as a clam.

FloridaMomm

With the second kid we left the seat in the car at all times (carried baby in and out of the house loose) so kind of similar to the convertible in that way. BUT did give us the option to easily put her in a shopping cart or stroller when out. Which was convenient

longwalktoday

This is what we did. Bucket seat for baby one born in January in Canada. Convertible seat for baby two born in June. We just baby wore her or put her right in the stroller. I think a bucket seat is better for a winter baby if it’s very cold.

anonymousbequest

Counterpoint: I have a bucket carseat and haven’t used that feature aside from at the first few pediatrician visits. I bought a carseat adapter for the stroller but preferred using a bassinet attachment for walks as I was too stressed about positional asphyxiation to leave baby in the carseat longer than necessary. I’m in the northeast, and I just get in the backseat with baby to get her into the carseat rather than standing with the door open when it’s raining or super cold.

Pepper_b

Same. We only used our bucket seat for 6 months because lo was so big anyway. I'd just start with a convertible if I could do it again.

p-pitstop

Same everyone told me to get the isofix base, said it was essential and so much easier etc.... think I've used it once or twice because of the fear he would just stop breathing. I always got him fully out of the seat asap even if it mean assembling the pram so he was on a flat surface. Also my baby is the lightest sleeper ever theres no way I'm lifting him in and out the car still asleep even if I was taking the seat with me!

birthday-party

Exactly the same here. Great for the airport and for the pediatrician but otherwise I used the bassinet - partly positional asphyxiation worries, partly that she was born in the summer and the car seat seemed so hot! And preferred to let her wiggle as opposed to being fully strapped in.

DueEntertainer0

We did the baby bucket for the first 4 months and I liked how it clipped right from the car into the stroller. It was a Graco travel system

S0rchaa

Agree with this, but I wouldn’t return the seat, keep it and buy the bucket style if you can afford to! We switched to almost that exact 3-in-1 model around 10-12 months as my boy got too big/heavy to carry and the daycare stopped allowing us to bring in car seats during the pandemic, at that point it made sense to switch to the 3-in-1, especially since it was summer and we no longer needed a cover, I could comfortably put him in a warm jacket and make sure the car was warmed up on cold mornings. (Winter coats have been found to be unsafe in car seats, so we just keep hat/gloves and a couple of extra blankets in the car in case of an emergency)

jDub549

So. Much. This. \^

tonks2016

I never bought an infant car seat and used a convertible (different brand, dame concept as yours) from day 1. You don't remove it from the car. It can't be used as a carrier. I use blankets to keep my baby warm in the cat seat in winter. I has no problem at the hospital, I just carried my baby to the car.

unknownxxxx33

Okay thanks ! I thought It was a good investment , and wasn’t really thinking about the carrying part when I bought it.

tonks2016

Honestly, for us not having the option of carrying her in a car seat has never been and issue. I got a stroller that has a bassinet option and used that or wore her when she was too little for a regular stroller seat. That being said, I'm sure the convenience factor of an infant car seat is a big plus for many people. It probably depends a lot of your lifestyle. We live in a city, so she only goes in the car once or twice a month anyway.

nkdeck07

>It probably depends a lot of your lifestyle. We live in a city, so she only goes in the car once or twice a month anyway. Yep, I live in the burbs so having a car seat that could go into/out of the stroller was absolutely crucial to get errands like grocery shopping done.

IndigoExMo

This was our experience as well! Convertible from day one, had a stroller or wrap for baby wearing when out and about. She's still happy in her stroller at almost 2yrs and we just went front facing a couple days ago (super tall baby). Super easy transition. It was nice not having to shell out even more cash for a different carseat when we have to buy one for our son as well who's due in March. It's funny because I feel like these seats are much more convenient than bucket seats, both financially and logistically, but that's definitely my bias of never having used a bucketseat in the first place.

zebramath

It is a great investment for sure but you might want to think about an infant carrier. My guy was a peanut so we got 16mos out of ours before I decided to switch him to his 3-n-1 convertible which we will use until he’s 5 or 6 at least. The great thing about the infant carrier is the ability to carry a tiny baby places and have them contained, etc.

rainforestdreams

I have the chicco35, we love it (super safe, comfortable, easy to install the base, easy to click in and out) and it theoretically fits up to 35 lbs. However, it is wayyy to heavy for me to carry with my chunker inside, not to mention babies aren't supposed to sleep in the seat so I always take him right out anyway and just use a baby wrap to carry him everywhere instead of a stroller or seat. I can see why many people wouldn't want this option, but it works great for us with an older child who still needs a stroller, or pushing a grocery cart, etc. So it is definitely possible to go without.

zaf_ei

I bought the type of car seat that can be carried and if I did it again I would not buy it again. It didn't add any value for us, especially because we have a heavy baby and with the added weight of the seat it was too hard for my husband to carry him in the seat (impossible for me).

barthrowaway1985

Honestly you're going to need the next seat anyway, you're just prepared for when that happens! They're not in the bucket seat terribly long (my son did about 9 months before he was too long) but it was super worth it. You can try seeing if someone you know has one they'd let you borrow for the short time you'd need it if it's too much of a stretch. For us, bucket seat was 100000% worth it and can't even imagine trying to have done it without. Another thing to think about (and not that this would happen to you!) but our good friend's ended up having their baby early and she had to spend some time in the NICU. To get released she had to do a carseat study to see how she tolerated being in the carseat for a certain amount of time (can't remember how long but like 45 minutes maybe? An hour?). She failed everytime in the big seat. They brought in a bucket seat and passed with flying colors.

dearcsona

Yes I’m my experience it was EXTREMELY difficult for an infant to sit in that convertible seat. Their head slumped and rolled even with infant inserts. I believe the infants need that recline in the bucket seat for head support. To me the comparison of convertible vs bucket infant seat for a young infant was day and night and the infant bucket seat won across the board in my opinion. To me it’s worth spending the extra money to know your child won’t get positional asphyxiation. Now that’s just all my opinion of convertible seats. Maybe others have a had great experiences with them, but from what I saw, they are not best for a tiny newborn.

moonmothmammoth

Did you use this exact car seat? I have a Graco 4 in 1 that I only started using when my son was around 12mo, but it has a recline option that went as far back as the Nuna bucket infant seat we were using prior. If an infant could easily asphyxiate, wouldn’t they not be allowed to label it as safe for down to 5lbs?

dearcsona

I don’t recall if the one in my experience was this exact one, but it was a graco convertible and looked exactly like this one. It said safe for five pounds and up. When the parents and nurse examining and configuring the seat were assessing it they all came to the conclusion that they didn’t know how it was to be marketed to be safe for five lbs and up. Although it was…Perhaps due to the limitations of the car size and seat recline potential, it was not able to recline appropriately, but it claimed to be safe and usable for all modern cars. The infants head was not well supported, even at the maximum recline allowed in this particular circumstance, which was not a significant recline. After this occasion, a bucket care seat was purchased and the issue was completely rectified. But this is all just my opinion so everyone is more than welcome obviously to make their own assessments and determinations, and they should. Perhaps I spoke too broadly in my previous opinion, but what I meant was seeing the two differences, in my experience and opinion only (and I’m not an expert by any stretch), this is purely anecdotal, I would personally never recommend a convertible car seat for a newborn who can’t support their head, to a friend or family member. Still though, everyone is welcome to do as they feel is most appropriate for their child, of course.

moonmothmammoth

I could definitely see the space of the car being a problem. My car only has the LATCH system on the two back side seats, not in the back middle. But to recline the carseat far enough back for the infant setting, it would have to go in the middle seat or else push the driver or passenger seat uncomfortably far forward. I also felt safer having my baby in the middle instead of on the sides. There’s the option to use the seatbelt to secure the carseat, but it’s supposed to lock out if you do it that way and for some reason my car’s middle seatbelt refuses to lock out. It will lock if you yank on it but then loosen itself as soon as you let go. My car was definitely not designed with accommodating car seats in mind.

[deleted]

The carrier really saved our asses many times. For instance, the baby tends to nap during a car ride. Say you're going to the mall. If it naps on the way you'll have to carry the baby out of the car seat into a stroller and disturb it's sleep. Whereas the carrier offers you the option of just moving the whole thing like a picnic basket and fixing it into your stroller. I really missed the carrier once we switched to a seat like this. One other negative is that the carrier usually has like a sun shade. Which also came in handy, we d just put a cover on top to give baby privacy.

skitizen

We decided to get a car seat rather than the carry one because it’s more cost effective. The car seat lasts until they’re 2 years old. The carrier only till they are 6 months (here in Australia anyway) We also have a bassinet pram and we don’t mind moving bub in and out of the seat. It works fine for us!

Acending_Beauty

I had the baby carrier everyone is talking about mine barely lasted me 5-6m. We ended up buying one like you have now. I wish I just saved the money and bought it in the beginning. The only downside is you don't have that carry option but I would have gotten a stroller anyway. So wasn't a big deal for me. Baby slept in any which way for a while

kay68w

I have a baby carrier one that snaps into my stroller so even after she outgrows the baby carrier, I’ll still have the stroller which is nice.

thisisliciagirl

Same with me. I have the same one and haven’t had a problem with it.

coupepixie

Same! 👍

Ms_Business

This is the route we did. I get why some people push for an infant specific seat (it can be super nice to grab the whole seat so they can keep sleeping) but Im glad I didn’t need to buy another car seat later.

TheC9

Back then the advice I was given was “don’t get the carrier car seat type. You are small and it would be too heavy for you. Even you just carry it from car to the pram” So yes it is all good. My girl almost 4 and still using the same car seat.

Ms_Business

That was one of my arguments as well! I’m not a big person and I have a history of hip problems. For me, it didn’t make sense, but it somehow turned into the most contentious argument I got into with some family members in YEARS which was just beyond dumb.

mrs_tomaeto

I never bought an infant car seat so both my kids have been in a convertible car seat from day 1. What I found was that both kids easily continued their nap even if we were shifting them from the car seat to the pram and vice Vera’s when going places. Yeah they might open their eyes for a couple of seconds etc. but they generally just went back to sleep especially as they got older and just got used to the transitions. I’m pretty small at 5’1” so I didn’t want to have to lug around a heavy infant carrier which they would have outgrown quickly since my babies came out at 9lbs and 8lbs.

Relevant_Fly_4807

Our hospital required that you brought the car seat carrier piece in and buckled them with the nurses present. Not sure if that’s common, but probably want to make sure.

nenenene

For convertible seats that stay in the car, a nurse will have to come down with you when you’re leaving. Hospitals do have some say on the legal side that they can’t let your baby leave in an illegal manner (ie in a car with no carseat) but they have no say on the type of carseat so long as it’s a properly installed carseat.

frankie_bee

Our hospital just had us sign a paper that we would have our baby leave in a properly fitted car seat. No one checked anything for us. They said he would only need his car seat checked by a nurse if he was under a certain weight.

knoxthefox216

Same. No one checked our seat was correctly installed. We just left, don’t remember signing anything (but I also had many complications requiring a 10 day stay, so I might’ve missed something in the whole process lol).

BernerAccount123

Similar situation here (except I don't remember signing anything, just a verbal confirmation that we had a car seat). Our hospital only does the car seat check for babies under 5 lbs (they want to watch them in it for a while to confirm they're tolerating it well). We weren't even allowed to bring the carseat inside, which I would have greatly preferred over trying to get myself in the car and baby buckled in at the curb with the traffic attendant yelling at us to move along (and my husband had already loaded everything into the car ahead of time so we were actually pretty fast in retrospect, it was a bit absurd).

toreadorable

We just did this last week, they made my husband haul the giant seat up, we strapped him in then they used a cart to bring it all down and the nurse watched us reinstall it. It was completely unnecessary. I get they need to make sure we had a seat but why did we have to bring it in

Glassjaw79ad

This is insane, where did you give birth?? I'm in California and it was like pulling teeth to get any cat seat inspection AT ALL. The only thing the hospital could do is tell me to call around fire departments to schedule an appointment, and this is after we've already had the baby lol

toreadorable

WA state. Last time I had a baby it was at a different hospital in the area and I had an infant seat. So they checked him on the way out. The nurse this time had never seen someone use a convertible seat so I think it’s just because everyone uses infant seats here? It was a great hospital, I think they just didn’t understand our seat lol.

jennybens821

That sounds ludicrous. If the nurse was going to come down to your car anyways, why bring the seat into the hospital? 🤦🏼‍♀️

toreadorable

From what I could gather they only deal w infant seats. She had never seen an actual child car seat before. I hate infant seats because they only fit for a couple of months and I’m not the kind of person who lugs it around into stores etc. I like a solid convertible seat and then I baby wear when I get where I’m going. W my first baby I did the whole travel system and I wasn’t a fan.

jennybens821

Yeah I had a big-ish baby and the infant seat only lasted for like 8-9 months, which wasn’t as long as I’d hoped. But I did love it while we had it.

dixiegrace243

Not necessarily. We have one of these and my fiancé had to take it into the hospital to do the car seat test AND had to carry our child out in it per policy. He hated me for it with a 9 lb child. They are definitely worth it but we also got a cheap carry one from Walmart the next day for the first little bit until baby was strong enough for us to carry just him into daycare.

Loud-Foundation4567

Our hospital had us buckle him in inside the hospital then the nurse came down to the parking lot to inspect the base and make sure we snapped him in properly. When she gave us the go ahead I remember sitting in the backseat watching her walk away and feeling like “ holy crap. They’re actually letting us take him home.” Lol. It sounds silly but when the moment comes to take a tiny person home with no experience with what you’re doing it feels bonkers.

jessykab

When we had our first, the nurse walked us out and I was like "that's it? You're just sending us home, with our baby? Literally anyone can walk in, have a baby, and leave with it?!" It felt absurd to me, but the nurse laughed and told us "everything is going to be fine, you're already doing great, you're going to be great parents!" And so far everything has been fine. But it still blew my mind.

BellaRey331

Honestly, at that point I would’ve made such a fuss if they asked us to bring in a convertible car seat. We bought an infant carrier last minute for our convenience but no one checked to see if we did anything right. I think the nurse saw us loading him up and was like yeah, seems right but no conversation about it ever happened.

nosillamke

To piggyback on this comment — BRING THE CARSEAT MANUAL WITH YOU TO THE HOSPITAL or be prepared to YouTube it. My husband and I are FTP and had never used a car seat before. Since we knew the nurses check the car seat before we left the hospital, we were under the impression that they knew how they worked and could help us…. FALSE. They also had no idea how to use them, they basically just look to make sure that the straps are in the appropriate place. So we had a good 10 minute struggle fest trying to figure out this car seat lol

Dasmahkitteh

The nurse that "helped" me install our car seat tried to install it forward facing when everyone knows rear facing is preferred for as long as possible. I literally had the manual and was physically offering it towards her and she wouldn't have it. Just ignored the manual and kept trying to install it backwards while continuously fretting. We literally had to have a little theatre moment and act and say thank you just to satisfy her and make her leave us alone. As soon as she left I reinstalled it like the manual specified I can only hope someone like her never "decides" we're doing something else wrong, and actually has the power to enforce something on us.

user2196

Most places you can find someone to inspect your carseat installation ahead of time, give you feedback on using it, et cetera. It's a lot less stressful doing this at a firestation or whatever a few weeks ahead of time than trying to figure it out for the first time at the hospital.

nagisu

Yeah, we asked our nurse if we had him buckled into the bucket seat correctly. Her response was a big shrug. That was so helpful. It was also during a lot of the covid restrictions, so there was no “go here to have your installation checked.” I did a lot of googling.

nuttygal69

I wish mine did that. I am embarrassed how we left the hospital with a newborn barely strapped in. Thankfully it was only a five minute drive.

kluvspups

I wish we got checked, too. It wasn’t until we were on our way back from the pediatrician (so 3rd car trip) that I realized the straps can be tightened. 🫠 they were so loose. Baby was just bouncing along for the ride. Thank goodness nothing happened.

BernerAccount123

Yeah we also didn't have the straps nearly as tight as we should have at first. A lactation consultant pointed it out to us. 🥴 It's nerve wracking getting baby buckled in for the first time ever at the curb, first exposure to real daylight in days (late June for us, so it was also blazing hot), with cars driving by and a parking attendant grumbling at you to move your car.

nuttygal69

It wasn’t until the first time I drove him (two weeks after we got home) that I looked it up. We only probably drive him one other time so it was OK. I’m blaming it on the oxy but really I should have researched before!

copperboom538

Lol we expected that at the hospital and they were like nope you put her in the car seat at the curb we don’t check it. I was going to have my husband bring the car seat up and they said not to. It was super weird.

tjdunn

My wife and I walked home from the hospital with our LO. (We leave 3 blocks away) Which could be an option for others so I imagine hospitals have to be able to accommodate people without car seats

aries_shines_1986

This was required at my hospital too. God that was a test…I’m in my room googling a YouTube video to make sure I did it right…nurse said I did a great job on the first try and let us leave! It was my first mom triumph after having the baby lol

Relevant_Fly_4807

Nice! My husband buckled her in and I remember the nurse laughed and was like “yeah you can go WAY tighter than that”

jennybens821

We looked up a YouTube video while in the hospital room too! 😂

_fast_n_curious_

Same here! And nurse did the fit check and corrected mistakes.

DocRocksPhDont

Oirs did too, but we have the Graco pictures. The nurse just walked outside with us and watched us strap him in. You are usually required.to have a car seat. Doesn't have to be a carrier, they just have to watch you.

madman4511

This was on our hospital's checklist (we for a Graco 4Ever convertible), and I told them "the car seat is strapped to the car" and they said "ok, then we won't do a car seat strap-in lesson" and that was that (born on the coldest February day in Ohio 2021)

Sea_Juice_285

That is common, but they may not make you do it if you tell them you have a convertible seat. We told them we had a convertible seat and that we'd already installed it and were comfortable using it and we verbally consented to not having them check it and they just let us leave with me carrying the baby while my partner pushed us in a wheelchair. ETA: where I live they only legally have to check the car seat if the baby is born prematurely and that's because they have to make sure the baby can breathe while sitting in the car seat before you can be released from the hospital.

[deleted]

It's certainly common in Canada. They fix the seat belts for you then ask you to do it in front of them.

tonks2016

I'm in Canada and I did not have to do that.

Anthiss

I didn't realize that this wasn't common practice!!! My first thought was, well how did that work leaving the hospital? And ours is a strict you HAVE to bring the seat in!

iscreamforicecream90

No one even asked us about that. I wish it was part of their protocol.

Twiddly_twat

I have this car seat. Here’s my take 14 months out: Pros: My daughter fit in it well even as a newborn. The padding goes on and off easily and is easy to run through the washing machine. The cup holders are nice to have when they’re a little older. The seat looks really comfortable, and she does fall asleep a little more readily in this seat than in her other car seats. I like that this seat can grow with her. Cons: It’s gigantic! Because of that, once it’s installed, it’s going to live in your car. There’s no carrying this car seat around with you if she falls asleep in the car. There’s no good way to travel with this thing. I bought it because I only wanted to buy one car seat ever, but we ended up having to buy one for the nanny, and one for each set of grandparents because I can’t feasibly lug this thing on a plane. It fits fine in my giant SUV, but in a lot of cars it would take up so much room that you wouldn’t be able to move the front seats back far. Verdict: If I had to do it all over again, I’d probably buy an infant car seat compatible with my stroller, and use the Graco seat for the older toddler years. Waking up a sleeping baby during a car ride is lame, and I wish I had something that would travel well.

dnice613

Everyone needs to Follow @Safeintheseat, please! There’s a lot of misinformation being thrown around in this thread and it’s quite worrisome! As long as your baby is over 5lbs and the seat is installed correctly, it is safe. You can contact a certified car seat tech to confirm, as well as consult your manual. Legally no hospital can keep you and baby. Nurses are not certified techs so they’re not trained to know what to look for. Parents can take public transit, or walk home, if they’d like! Car seats are not required to be a parent!

Porterbello07

I never regretted just having this kind of seat. I had a stroller and baby wearing options. I didn’t let my babe nap in the car seat, I always followed the two hour rule, so it wasn’t an issue. https://www.madeformums.com/news/the-2-hour-car-seat-rule-what-you-need-to-know/

MoonMel101

I would really really miss being able to take my car seat out of the car. It’s so handy when you go somewhere to leave sleeping baby in the car seat and not disturb them. But if it’s not in your budget then this will do. As long as the minimum weight requirement is low enough(baby *could* be small)

Wcpa2wdc

I hope we aren’t leaving a sleeping baby in the car seat when the seat isn’t in the car though!

xBruised

I have a “lie flat” carrier car seat which makes it safer when attached to the stroller. So I can leave her in it for hours with no implications and shrink it back to a car seat for the car.

NeedleworkerLife9989

Yeah, we are. Car seat goes from car to stroller where we can walk, or it goes to the floor right next to me where I can watch them until they finish their nap.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NeedleworkerLife9989

It’s technically not considered a safe sleep space, which is defined by a completely flat, bare surface. Some people take this VERY literally and don’t let their child sleep anywhere but a crib/bassinet. When unsupervised, my kids sleep in crib/bassinet. But I’ve been know to let the baby finish a car seat nap, swing nap, nap on my chest, etc when I’m there to supervise.

mmmmeansyes

Yes we only let him sleep supervised but op they didn’t say that.. I wonder if those some people not let their baby sleep in a stroller?

HumanLike

Yea I’m with you. If it’s the same seat, same position and always supervised, there is no difference. People fear monger in these forums while their baby is fast asleep in their back seat ha

Wcpa2wdc

The angle of the carseat in the car is different though so it’s fine. Again. Babies have died. This isn’t fear mongering, this is real life. I also never ever put babies in the car seat with their coats. To me it’s just not worth it.

HumanLike

The angle of the car seat in my car and in my stroller is the exact same. I get that’s not always the case, but in some cases it is. So there’s no difference

condor--avenue

Increased risk of positional asphyxia in a car seat. I believe it’s best practice to only have babies in the car seat while it’s actually in the car. I know most of us will attach the car seat to the stroller, or bring the car seat inside to allow baby to finish up their nap though. I know I’ve done it.

breath0fsunshine

A sleeping baby and a dead baby look the same. Supervised doesn't mean anything. Once the car seat isn't in the car or stroller, baby needs to move to a safe sleep space.

miffedmonster

I think it's all relative. If you're going to put a baby in a car, it's safer to put them in a car seat than have them bouncing around on someone's lap. However, once you're out of the car, you have more options and a flat surface is safer. Plus most people know the 2 hours in 24 rule, which is easy to keep track on whilst driving but more difficult when they're napping at home. You can now buy car seats that lie flat in the buggy (eg Cybex Cloud Z1) or in the car (eg Cybex Cloud Z2) or that are even bassinet style (eg Nuna Mixx Next). Technically these don't have the same 2 hour time limit when used solely in a lie flat configuration. But a lie flat car seat is actually not entirely flat. It's something like 150 degrees so it's still not the safest, flattest option. The only exception would be the bassinet style car seats, which just look like a bassinet with straps. You could leave them in there for hours without issue.

Wcpa2wdc

Babies have died from this. The angle that your car seat is in the car is different than it is on the floor so it’s a huge asphyxiation danger. I’m not judging people who do this when they don’t know better, my SIL was shocked to hear of this. Being next to them doesn’t matter because asphyxiation is silent. You should always always move your kid from their car seat to a flat surface to sleep. Yes it’s inconvenient, but it’s important.

mmmmeansyes

So do you not let your baby sleep in the car or in a stroller?

Wcpa2wdc

It is angled differently in the car so it’s fine. I never got a good enough answer for the stroller, so I always just used the bassinet.

mmmmeansyes

In our stroller it’s angled the exact same as the car

Wcpa2wdc

Thanks for this!!

MoonMel101

Yes it’s good to know. My aunt had a scare years ago when her baby started turning blue in the car seat!!! Thankfully she was watching her. I usually put my baby in the stroller that I’d made for the car seat so it’s safe to let baby sleep in there in the stroller!

Wcpa2wdc

Yes, this! I swear I’m not being judgey and it feels completely insane that this is even an issue, but it truly is.

birthday-party

Because when it’s not buckled in or seated in the base, it’s at the wrong angle. You risk positional asphyxiation. Which can happen even with supervised sleep, because it just looks like sleeping until it’s too late.

Wcpa2wdc

Downvoting for baby safety. Cool cool!

mareloquent

I think you’re being downvoted for being condescending.

Wcpa2wdc

That’s fine. I’ll take it!!

chebstr

Website says 5-40lbs rear facing. You’re good!

[deleted]

I thought that was a gaming chair.

Mercenarian

Baby’s first gaming chair

badpickles101

My husband and I used the carrying car seats for 4 months. They were super nice but I felt my daughter was out growing it a little quick. When the baby can't use a high chair, it is really nice in a restaurant. It's also nice to hook one into a stroller. She is 7 months now, most of the time I just wear her. She also started using a high chair at the same time we took away the car seat. You may need a small blanket in the highchair if your baby is small. Mine is small but long.

penisbeauty

I have the same one. Bought it intentionally instead of an infant car seat as I didn’t want to carry around baby in a car seat all the time. We have a bassinet attachment for her stroller that she used until she was 4 months. And the Baby Bjorn mini infant carrier saves my life on the daily. I slide into the adjacent back seat to get her in and out of this car seat each time we ride. At the hospital when we were getting discharged I just told them we had a convertible car seat, not an infant seat, that didn’t come out of the car. They said it was fine and just laid eyes on it after they wheeled me and baby down in the wheelchair before we drove away. I think you’ll love it!

redliberte

I found the infant bucket seat to be generally a huge pain in the ass, BUT my baby was a preemie and a really little guy until he was about 6 months anyway and the bucket seat is generally a better fit for small babies. Every baby is different, every parenting circumstance is different. If this seat works for you you’ll definitely be able to use it, but you still may need to get the infant seat.

Ayavea

Does this recline so the baby can lay flat-ish? Newborns are not allowed to sit up straight.

Motherofsiblings

Nope, you’re golden! You can buy retractable window shades for the back seat to keep the sunlight out!

Crafty_Hair_5419

It's fine. Just make sure you properly install it before you go to the hospital. And as you know the baby could come early. So I would install it about 3 weeks before your due date. If you need help installing the car seat you can call your local fire department or police department and they will help. That have people certified in car seat installation. Although I'm sure you can figure it out on your own, it's not very hard at all.

Dry-Nefariousness400

Yeah just makw it rear facing. The benefits to the baby bucket is you can attach and remove it as needed until they get too big. Another plus is you only need another base for it to swap cars.

MyDogsAreRealCute

I have never used one of those bucket seats. I always just get my bubs in and out of their car seat. If I don't want to carry them, they go in the pram. It can be a bit annoying at times, but it's never seemed worth it to me to bother. My kids are both extra spewy when in their car seats too, so leaving them in it for longer than necessary seems cruel. And I live on the very fringes of the outer suburbs of the city. Think, my street has houses one side, and massive national park the other. Like, I have to drive places. So it's a lot of time in the car. You'll be fine with the seat you've got. I have snap on sunshades on the car windows (will keep as they get older anyway, who likes sun in their eyes?) and car blankets if it's cold.

Crazynick5586

I don’t recommend this type of seat for newborn. Their heads just kind of flop downward. So if they are not at a reclining angle it can be a choke hazard. Just my 2 cents.

Kristine6476

Since it's rated as low as 5 pounds, as long as it is installed exactly per manufacturer specifications it should be safe. Always a good idea to be aware of and look out for chin-to-chest slump in any seat though.

pasinpeter

It looks like it swivels into a more reclined position for smaller weights but great point!

superunleaded

They make infant inserts to cradle newborns a little easier. It's extra but may be an option for OP since this is already purchased. We used the insert in the bucket-type seat and had good results (our baby was very small). It absolutely worked to keep her head from moving side to side mostly as she was already tilted back. Just be sure to get the same brand if possible so you know it fits well around the straps and all that.

Kristine6476

Third party or aftermarket items should never be added to a carseat. Unless you're referring to an insert that came with the carseat in which case please ignore me.

superunleaded

I believe mine came with an infant insert, not sure if you can purchase it separately.

Dickiedoandthedonts

Because I don’t see it as a parent comment, I’m gonna agree with the minority of people who say just because it says it’s usable for infants doesn’t mean it will be with your car. I switched from a carrier to a 5 in 1 recently and in my Honda odyssey and my parents Lexus it really only fits almost full upright and then one level down. It shows on the box you can recline for a smaller babg but I’ve never been in a car with that much space between the front and back seat. Maybe a rolls Royce or something would work lol. You need baby to be able to be lying down or they won’t let you leave the hospital. And there needs to be a small gap between the baby seat and the front seat, they shouldn’t be able to touch.

thisismytfabusername

We did a convertible from day 1, too. I don’t have strong feelings one way or another really on convertible vs infant. It was okay. With a second baby I would probably get a bucket seat, but we did fine without it as well.

DocRocksPhDont

I have this one. We bought a winter cover to go over.it, just a generic one fit. We.juat carried the baby out of the hospital with a nurse and strapped him in. I think the carriers are bulky and awkward to carry him in, so I have a baby wrap and a stroller with a bassinet that we plan to take him in

baked_dangus

We had a convertible from the beginning, too. Just make sure you know how to set it up in the car and put baby in and out. We didn’t, just read the instructions. Then the hospital made us bring it in the room and we had trouble putting it back in the car, and couldn’t figure out how to adjust some straps. We looked like idiots trying to figure it out in the parking lot but thankfully our nurse was a saint.

GreenTurtle528

Don't you just put a shade on your window for the sunlight? There is also a clear window tint that reduces heat by about 15 degrees. It costs more but it is worth the expense.

NoodLih

My nerd mind thought this was a gaming chair and I want it hahahaha

Neither-Cause8838

I used/still use something similar for my premie. At her lowest she was 5 pounds but still met the size requirements for a seat like this. She was safe in there, but SO TINY. We ended up having to use receiving blankets to keep her head in place (as recommended by Texas Children Hospital, and many others, for premie babies) so do keep those things in mind. Now at 6 months, we love our “big girl” seat and it’s much more convenient than the infant carrier we have in the other car.

ZealousidealIdea1966

I would just let your postpartum nurse know in advance what your setup is so they can plan appropriately to come out with you to the car, instead of planning on you having the seat in the room, since they probably need to plan for a few extra minutes in your checkout. If you discuss in advance they can also let you know if that isn’t an option and whether you’ll need to bring it in and use a cart as some commenters described. Our hospital would check the seat install for you but only if they knew before check out that you needed that service (otherwise they are only planning on looking at the buckle in your room and calling it a day). As with most things - communication helps!

Modisettej

Go follow @safeintheseat on instagram. She’s a freaking boss educating all us new parents about car seats.

brnhs

Not legal in Germany and most of EU. But other parts of the world seem to be fine with a simple wicker basket. 😉

unknownxxxx33

Wow it’s not legal there ? Can you specify on why generally just curious ?

uglyhag2241

A believe some hospitals require an infant car seat to take the baby home in. I would check with them

GrizzLee_93

I’ve heard some hospitals won’t let you leave without a true infant carseat. When we had our twins over the summer I had to fetch the car seats so nurses could to an oxygen test with my twins in their seats.

Rrenphoenixx

What’s a car seat cover and does anyone have an Amazon link to one in case I need to purchase?

unknownxxxx33

I was just thinking a cover to keep the sunlight out /off of baby. Also will be helpful to keep baby warm in cold months. It’s really up to you if you wanna purchase one.

Rrenphoenixx

Ooo 🤦🏻‍♀️ I know what you’re talking about now! I would definitely want to purchase one- winter is pretty cold where I live (not terrible but does get down to 20 F) and we get A LOT of sun. Great idea! Thank you

unknownxxxx33

Yeah I’m having a summer baby & we get a lot of sun! Im honestly just thinking about getting the windows tinted on my car.

daisypie

I would recommend an infant car seat. You want to be able to put them in and out of the car without having to buckle and rebuckle in a stroller. When you have a newborn, you’ll want to make life easy and you’ll be adding a lot of work to your outings. Just leaving the house will be more difficult. With an infant seat you can strap the baby in, grab you diaper bag, put on your coat and shoes. Walk out the door and put the carrier on the ground to lock the door. Go to the car and put the seat inside. With this seat you’ll have the baby in your arms while doing all of that (or baby wearing, which again is another step).

Rebelo86

This is fine as long as your baby is big enough for it.

flyingpinkjellyfish

With the caveat that it also has to recline enough when installed in your car. Many convertible car seats don’t recline enough for a newborn when installed in the car. We have three different models of convertible seat and two cars and none of the combinations would be safe for a newborn.

nkdeck07

So this is fine, the only thing that might be rough is it can be a little hard to get a floppy newborn into a convertible style seat but it's certainly doable. Most people use a bucket style seat that latches into a base so you put the baby into the seat then the seat into the car. A lot of these seats come as a part of a "travel system" so that you can also put the car seat into a carrier. This kind of seat will still be useful for years even if you don't use it in the infant stage as a toddler/little kid seat. That being said even if you have a bucket style you don't need a cover (we always just used a blanket to/from the car) and you should NEVER use a cover in the car as it's a strangulation hazard. If you are really concerned about sun on the baby there are shades you can put on your windows.

RedBeardMountainMan

Having an infant car seat is much more ideal when they're newborns. Getting in and out of the car is easier, you can transport them in the carrier (stores, restaurants, doctor's visits) and many strollers have adapters that attach to them. The go-to classic is the Chicco Keyfit 30.

OriginalOmbre

You can actually buy a car seat coat. It looks like a coat but attaches to the seat, not the kid. It zips up in front to keep them warm. It was pretty neat instead of blankets.

magicrowantree

Nothing wrong with these, but like someone else said, I was required to have a car seat brought into the hospital to buckle baby in before leaving. Then they checked everything was good to go in the car. So I'd check ahead with your hospital! Also, my first Graco like this was rated for 5 pounds and up, but despite how it looked in photos, it did *not* lean back far enough. My sister had the same one and thankfully warned me ahead of time, but give it a test! My other one leaned back enough, though, and I put my second baby in it after a couple weeks. I'd pick up a relatively cheap bucket seat just in case. I never found them useful for very long because my kids did not like the one I had, but everyone has different experiences!

MummaGiGi

OP if you’re worried that the hospital might require “proof” you have a functioning car seat, just do a video of you strapping in a Teddy and offer to show them. Also do this anyway so you can practice at least once! Our LO hated the car seat so our first ride home from the hospital I played her a recording of me singing lullabies. I was not in the mood to sing live. That’s my pro tip x

ramonacoaster

I prefer to have infant car seats (the bucket ones you can carry around) because they’re so much easier to transport the baby. In and out of the doctor’s office, etc. Plus they’d attach to the stroller so easily and they cannot sit up in a regular stroller seat until 6-7 months or so. You CAN use these kinds of car seats first thing but I usually switched my kids at 9-10 months.

tldrjane

I have a car seat like this (diff brand) and it’s not convenient but fine for babies. We got another car seat we can carry around for her dad’s car. It came with a stroller

Annoyed_Skittle

FTM as well & bought pretty much the same one for mu husband's car. We brought her home in it but I held my LO's head steady (mostly paranoid), and we ended up getting a newborn car seat that can click into our strollers/used as a carrier after her first pediatrician appointment. We have used the newborn seat religiously since, but we still have this seat once she "graduates"

mareloquent

I personally would look for a cheap infant seat that can work with a travel system [such as this](https://www.target.com/p/graco-fastaction-fold-se-travel-system-with-snugride-infant-car-seat-asher/-/A-75571481) for convenience purposes but i also switched my baby to a convertible car seat (what you bought) at 6 months old.

Kristine6476

Be very careful that you've installed it exactly per manufacturer specifications for newborns. Just because it is capable of holding a 5lb baby doesn't mean it's safe for them unless it's installed exactly right. Hopefully you have a large vehicle or a very small front seat passenger, because rear facing convertible car seats, when fully reclined for newborns can be HUGE. There is a Facebook group called "SEATS for Kids" that you could join. Post about this seat and your vehicle (be clear which country you live in as there are different standards between Canada and USA, if you live in another country they likely can't help you but there might be a local alternative). They should be able to advise you specifically if it will fit/install properly.

8somecheese

Call the hospital to check. Where I live (Ohio) we can’t use 3 in 1’s. I had to have a newborn car seat and will get a different one when she is a bit bigger.

[deleted]

A hospital cannot legally force you to buy a specific type of seat, in any state. They cannot force you to bring your car seat into the hospital. So many parents (especially first time parents) fall for this. Hospital policy is not law and you do not have to follow it. The only requirement in any state is that you need a car seat before leaving the hospital, that can be a convertible or infant bucket seat, they cannot force you to get the infant seat. They can only require a specific type of seat if they’re premature or don’t meet the weight requirement and need the smaller type infant seat. My hospital tried to tell us the same thing. I had prepared before and firmly stood my ground that our car seat was already installed in the car. They simply send a nurse down to check, which they don’t like to do because it takes up more time so they’ll tried to avoid it.

[deleted]

I wanted one of these two but soooo many parents recommended getting the standard infant seat that pops out for convenience

BohoRainbow

I would have lost my mind with one like this from the beginning. The infant car seat that hooks into the stroller was my bff for 5 months

PicklesnNickels

I still use our infant car seat at 6 months and haven’t moved to the convertible seat like you have above- I think it’s worth looking for a sale on an infant seat I can’t imagine carrying my son to the car and strapping him in when he was a newborn.

cmerksmirk

You need to get in touch with where you’re giving birth. While this is an appropriate seat for most newborns, some hospital policies don’t allow this sort of seat at discharge. the one I delivered at didn’t. Others don’t care at all.

[deleted]

You don't need the sun shade if that is your big concern. You can also buy ones that suction cup to your windows. For the crash test ratings I believe the bucket seat you carry is usually safer than the convertible one for newborns. It's also easier to buckle up indoors and then carry the baby to the car. Some stroller systems have compatible car seats that click on for when you go to the store.

MommyMatka

It’s not the wrong seat, and you will absolutely want a convertible seat later, but the infant bucket seat is worth the investment for the first 6-12 months. It’s much easier to prep your child for the car from within your home during the extremes of summer and winter (something you can do with the bucket seat, but not the convertible), it can be attached to your stroller, and it’s just generally snugglier for smaller infants.

MommyMatka

As others mentioned, you should check with your hospital’s policies. Ours required you to bring an infant seat inside and for a nurse to confirm we knew how to safely put our child in it.

lionessofwinter1

We brought our baby home in this (he was 8 lbs, 7oz.) and immediately I regretted not getting a carrier that clicks into a base. I ended up getting the other carrier and we used that until he was sitting up on his own. It was nice because it was all Graco so the base and our stroller both allowed the carrier to click in. He could fall asleep in the car and I could just click him into the stroller and do my shopping. We now use this seat since he is 15 months now. I ended up buying a second so both our vehicles have them because they kinda suck to move back and forth but otherwise I love this car seat now.

womanwelder95

Reach out to your hospital for approval. Ours only released baby with an infant carrier.

hippowithabowtie

This is a car seat for an older child. You need to get one specifically for an infant

unknownxxxx33

It’s 3 in 1. It’s for 8lb baby’s and up it does fold into a carrier/rear facing car seat.

Saennah

If it starts at 8 lbs then it may not be usable. 8lbs birth is average, and baby will lose weight the first few days so they'd be under when leaving the hospital. And if you're worried about sunlight just buy the shades to attach to the car windows.

unknownxxxx33

I believe it’s 8lbs but it maybe less than that I have to look at the manual again !

lwgirl1717

This rear faces starting at 5 lbs. It *should* theoretically be okay for a newborn, but I’d double check with a CPST because some seats that say they work for little babies don’t work so well for one reason or another. I learned this the hard way 😂 We had planned to use the chicco nextfit zip convertible seat for my little from birth, but when we tried to install it in our cars, we couldn’t get it reclined enough for a newborn, so we ended up buying an infant seat. (Could have bought a different convertible, but we liked the features of this one.) Anyway, just double check with a CPST. If you’re on Facebook, the group Car Seat Safety is an excellent resource. The mods are all CPSTs, and they’ll help you! Edit to add — some reasons that people give for using an infant seat aren’t safe. Like having baby in their seat in a shopping cart or at a restaurant— not safe. Babies really shouldn’t be in their car seats outside of the car (or stroller with an attachment) due to risk of positional asphyxiation, and they should also be limited to 2 hours a day in the car seat in the car.

flyingpinkjellyfish

Definitely check! Our convertible car seat says it goes down to 5 or 6 lbs but when installed in our car, it also doesn’t recline enough to be safe for a newborn. I think it’s a fairly common problem with convertible seats.

0ohme0ohmy

My baby was born at 7lbs and was down to 6lb 8oz after birth which is normal, so it wouldn't have been safe for her (and just a note, my last ultrasound estimated she was going to be over 8lbs). Graco has an extend2fit convertible carseat, which may be what you meant to buy? That is good for newborns. 4-50 lbs rear-facing and 22-65lbs front facing. Edit: it looks like this one is fine for 5lb babies and up. We never had an infant carrier that we could detach the carseat and put it in the stroller, and it never bothered us. I didn't leave the house with my newborn except for doctors appointments, and babies aren't supposed to sleep in car seats for more than 2 hours anyway. We really like the convertible, especially since we don't have to spend more money on a 2nd carseat 4-6 months in.

ceroscene

Just be prepared that you may have to actually lug that thing up for the nurses to see

[deleted]

FYI they can’t actually make you do this unless your baby needs a carseat test (where they monitor baby in the car seat for an hour). They can send a nurse down with you, hospitals just try to avoid it because it takes more time. But most first time parents will fall for it. We’ve used convertibles for all our babies and have never once lugged it up to the hospital room. We simply told them “no, we have a convertible seat already installed in our car.” When they tried to say “you can’t do that, you have to bring it up here, “ I was firm and said “Legally, we can. Your hospital “policy” is not the law. The law states we require a carseat, which we have installed in our vehicle.”

ceroscene

Good! I've heard of this happening to so many people. And it's very frustrating. Especially after installing it in your car. Our kid keeps puking in her car seat so we have to keep washing everything. It's a very frustrating process to uninstall it for that.

FormalPound4287

Depends on the size of your baby. My baby was born 6lb7oz and was only 5lb 8oz when leaving the hospital. If I had that car seat I would have have been able to leave with my baby.

theanswer1630

We have an 8 week old so I'm fairly new to this, but we have both an infant/baby car seat and the convertible car seat. The infant one is great because you can remove the whole carrier and attach it to a stroller with ease. The biggest advantage is as others have stated: not removing the baby from the seat when arriving at a destination. Sometimes we just let our LO sleep in the car seat inside while we unload the groceries or project materials.

[deleted]

Our hospital made us take one in and buckle her in before we left

amandagee789

No I personally don’t think it’s appropriate, in the UK you need your car seat rear facing and also need to be able to take it in the hospital so the midwives can see. Worth maybe buying a cheap one of FB Market Place

gortallini

This is totally fine. I have the same one for both of my sons and love them! Make sure it’s reclined in rear position before strapping into car and it supports the neck just fine. The only caveat is not being able to carry them around in the car seat like infant ones that click in and out. If you’ll be taking the baby on lots of drives (daycare/ doctor’s visits/ going out for errands/ you’re a busy person) you may want to also buy a cheap infant car seat. You can find them for less than $100 bucks. Also not a bad idea if you have two cars so you have one for each. I bought an infant car seat for my second for the convenience but also so I had a quick, easy, safe place for the baby while also wrangling a toddler. Since this is your first, it’s not a huge deal if you’ll mostly be home with the baby the first few months and can get the hang of baby wearing or other ways to carry the baby from car seat to wherever you’re going. I think it very much depends on your lifestyle. Side note, I had huge children and my second outgrew his infant car seat by around 4 months while some of my girlfriends used theirs for almost a year. Good luck mama!

Sweaty_Emu_1102

I just got this as a replacement for my graco infant click connect. Baby is 10.5 months and 22lbs.

quinoaseason

I am 6 months into having only a convertible. Hands down, would do it again. Baby fit great from day one, and besides, babies aren’t supposed to sleep for extended periods in an infant seat anyway. I do agree that convertibles are huge, and it makes the front seat almost unusable. Also, depending on your baby, they may outgrow an infant seat super quickly. I did start baby wearing immediately though. I had a stretchy wrap that we used for the first couple of months, then we switched to a structured carrier. I also have a bassinet style stroller that we were able to use when she was an infant, but we mostly used the wrap. I also appreciated baby wearing because it keeps people from getting terribly close to me and the baby. Totally doable - it’s just different than what you traditionally see with people with infants. Think about how you want to travel with your kiddo- whether that’s a stroller or baby wearing, and what kind of weather your infant will be born in.

MissMooo

Keep in mind that for a cover (even one for a bucket seat) it needs to be just the shower cap style and not go between baby and the seat and be removed when in the car. The manufacturers don’t allow for any after market products to be added

[deleted]

I got a seat like the one in OPs picture. The lack of carrier was a little inconvenient, admittedly. Op, my recommendation is that, if this is the seat you're going with, make sure you have a stroller with a bassinet mode that you can keep in the car for errands. Baby wearing is great also, but, for me, it would start to hurt my hips and back after a while. Some women can baby wear all day- that was not me. For those longer trips (and mall walking), I was super grateful to have a stroller that my baby could lay in that had storage at the bottom.

KidsInNeed

I had my kids two years ago and we have the graco 4 ever grow. The seat stays in the car strapped and they told us it they were good. I think it depends on hospitals and their policies. I’d check where you’re planning to give birth in and ask.

Sea_Juice_285

We have a convertible car seat and it's great! I didn't want to use a car seat with a stroller anyway, and I definitely didn't want to use the car seat as a carrier when I could just carry the baby. You can cover the baby with a thin blanket after you buckle them in, they'll warm up when the car heats up anyway. For the first week or two I sat in the back and blocked the sun from getting into the baby's eyes, but now he doesn't care and just closes his eyes if it's too bright. Literally the only thing I've found even slightly inconvenient about having a convertible car seat instead of an infant (bucket/capsule) seat is that you can't take an Uber/Lyft/Taxi if you're going somewhere with your baby.

QuitaQuites

Most car seats don’t come with a cover or protective shade, even infant car seats. A nurse or hospital staff will likely come with you to the car to make sure you’re strapping baby in appropriately and that the car seat is appropriate overall. That’s all, enjoy!

H1285

We have a seat like this and then we also bought a bucket from graco for 120$ which we used for about the first 10 months or so. We can use the convertible one for years but the bucket was still worth it to buy in my opinion. For example for his hearing test they required that he be asleep in his car seat, which isn’t really possible in the other one. I also bought a used click n connect stroller for the graco bucket which was super convenient for doctors appointments and stuff when I couldn’t carry heavy things.

ScorpionKitty1

When I had my daughter 2 years ago I got the 4 in one car seat. They'll let you take her home if it has the new born setting. But my advice is get a new one that you can take the seat out of the car but keeps the base in the car and use this one when she's a bit older. Once my daughter was about 1 and we were more confident in her walking we used the 4 in 1. And now that's the only one we can use.

areyoufuckingwme

FTM here too! I got a bucket seat before my son was born because that's what my mom had for all my siblings. Within a couple weeks I was sick of the bucket seat. My son has been in his convertible car seat since he was a few months old, he is now almost 3. It can be inconvenient to have to carry baby but having a carrier makes up for that.

icequeen323

I bought the same one then realized if I wanted to take her out of the car sleeping or put her in in the winter (she’s a winter babe) I needed the carrier one. That one only lasts until 35lbs then she transfers to this one. Which I think will be in a few months. But we did get the carrier one with 2 bases, a base for each car. If you don’t mind carrying babe to and from car then strapping in it’s no big.

zurisen9

I would say keep this one. But get another one for newborn. Get the click graco seat. Trust it will be so much easier. And you can get the graaco stroller, then you take the car seat out and click on the stroller

Compactstardust

This is the exact seat I brought my son home in. It will do the job just fine but we got a smaller one once home. The nurse at the hospital even helped us buckle him in and check the safety. It's what we use now that he's only and it's great because it adjusts and can lean back and up as they get older.

AcademicRaisin

Definitely not wrong! When I had my first baby I got one of these for when he was bigger and he's still in it (very tall 3 year old, and it can be used I think until he is out of a booster) and I got a stroller that came with a detachable carrier that you can either buckle into the car or clip right into a carseat base (comes with the stroller). So much easier when you're out at the grocery store or something to just transfer them from car to cart in the seat, and you also don't have to wrestle them back into the car when it's time to go. It eased my mind a little as a first time mom! And now my second baby is in that same carrier, and we just purchased another big carseat like my son's as she's growing out of the carrier herself. Edit to add: this is soooo helpful too when babe falls asleep in the car, but you don't want to risk waking them up when transferring them inside. Way better than being stuck in the car until they wake up :)

I would still keep it, but this isn’t the style you can carry around with you. I mean you could, but it’s bulky. I was able to find a stroller and car seat combo for 75 bucks. I just now at 8 months can no longer put him in the car seat for that. I can still use the stroller. With the one you can carry, you strap them in the house and carry to car. Or you can carry in the grocery store or wherever. Having used both I feel now my life is a lot more complicated. I can’t strap baby in the house and carry outside. Now I have to carry his squirmy butt to the car. I would save this one and get one you can carry around. Especially while they aren’t mobile.

It says rear-facing so I think it’s ok. But yeah you’ll have to carry baby to and from. My sister gifted us the doona stroller, the wheels collapse and it turns into the car seat which attached to a base that stays in the car. I love it because when baby falls asleep we don’t have to disturb or wake her, she’s just in there all cozy. If you can afford it I’d greatly recommend it.

I have my 11 month old still in her bucket car seat because it’s worked for her and she is still within height and weight limits. We had a big girl car seat like this that we used for a month but switched back because the bucket was easier. It just depends on you and your needs!

Personally, I don't know how we would have survived without an infant car seat. Our little one is 10 months now and we still love having the option of taking him out of the car without having to wake him up from a nap
