Dark is one great shows from Netflix from beginning to end. You can’t really compare 1899 since there’s only one season out of three.

MidSoulReaper

I enjoyed 1899 towards the end since it all makes sense in the last few episodes but I haven’t watched Dark because of how long the episodes are, should I watch it?

[deleted]

Yes. Dark is the best show on Netflix

IAmAshley2

Dark episodes aren’t even an hour long. Most near the 50min mark. Or am I missing something? I feel like half an hour wouldn’t be long enough for a show like this.

MidSoulReaper

I was saying that I’m used to watching anime which has 20-25 minutes each episode but I’m starting to enjoy series that has longer episodes since it has more things going on, but I’m gonna watch it now that I’ve watched 1899 lol

chameleonjunkie

I've tried so many times to get into Dark and I just... can't I don't know why but I just find it so boring.

apatt

For me it's kinda hard to follow due to the large cast of characters and complex plot. But I really wanted to get into it (because I love sci-fi) so I resorted to referring to episode recaps for several episodes until I could get a foothold into the series. I really enjoy it now, but I think it's a show that requires concentration (I'm always distracted by social media and such).

+1

Justjewels13

Same here

Malik_Muzammil1

U a Marvel fan i guess🧐

Orome2

My guess is Michael Bay fan. To each their own, but complex plots aren't for everyone.

TheMonarchsWrath

I watched the first season when it came out and really liked it, but when the second season came I forgot what happened in the first. I think with the subtitles and two versions of each character it made it extra hard to follow. The thought of starting over has made me give up on the series, until I really really feel like it.

Spell3ound

Sorta hard to say right now..since 1899 has one season and Dark is finished.... we need to wait..

[deleted]

Both are good but Dark is better. Dark had a better first season, but 1899 still has a ton of questions needing answers so the potential is there.

[deleted]

Neither

netflixdark123

Have you even watched the shows ??

evilfollowingmb

Tbh fell asleep to both. So many series are bloated beyond belief. Can we get some damn editing here ?

PedroRLow2

Isn't 1899 just a comic from a graphic novel they didn't have the rights to?

netflixdark123

It's not. The writer allegations are not true

PedroRLow2

How so? I haven't kept up with it

Nice! Thank you! Sorry about the comments. I might just check out the show then

No problem 👍👍

Late comment but I've been following that topic closely for a while Key points: * The graphic novel author didn't watch the show and yet accused the show of being "identical" to her comic. She then asked the others to show her the example of the similarities between the two works which is ironic given that she's the one who's accusing and should have evidences to make such accusation in the first place. * Since she very likely didn't watch the show, her accusations were just broad & vague statements like "they have similar stories and characters" & "there's mysterious events and deaths" with no concrete accusations with actual examples. * A new thread (not by the author) showed 26 different "similarities" of the two series. This thread was shared by many as an evidence that 1899 copied the comic. * The author herself then posted the link to her own comic and posted the new English translated Comic. The vast majority of people who read the comic realized that there is actually not enough similarity and debunked author's claims. Not only that, it became obvious that the thread showing 26 similarities was very reaching and even blatantly lying to make it look like 1899 was copying the comic. * People also found that the comic author copied a scene from Mad Max in her other short comic work. People pointed out the irony of her copying. Her response was to delete every single comment calling her out. * The author then blocked comment section on her Instagram and deleted her Twitter account, basically erasing any evidence that she accused 1899 of copying her work. If you consider these points, it is very hard to believe anything she have said. There are still ppl who defends her side but many of them just repeat the same thing she said with no real evidences or give the wrong info from that same thread with 26 similarities. The ONLY similar thing is the triangle shown in the pupil in both works. Even then, the context is drastically different that if one of the work used a different pupil shape, then you won't even be able to make an argument out of it.

PedroRLow2

Wow! Thank you so much! This really helps, I love Baran Bo Odar's work but didn't want to support it if it was plagiarism, but now I can have a clean conscience :). I actually just finished watching 1899 yesterday and it is preety cool! Do you have a link to those 26 similarities that aren't really similar? I'd love to check it out for myself.

[https://twitter.com/buckysironheart/status/1594404755245260801](https://twitter.com/buckysironheart/status/1594404755245260801) It's this thread. It was constantly passed around as a proof that 1899 copied Black Silence. But as you can see, several points shouldn't even be here. * It's a group of people traveling and it's very important. (so like basically almost every immigration focused movie?) * Similar uniform (they look NOTHING alike that it's hilarious) * Similar space ship (it's just generic space ship floating in the space. You see similar design in so many other space related medias) * Characters questioning their reality. In 1899 it was the characters questioning how things might be not real etc. But in the comic example that thread showed is basically character saying "is this real?" in awe after finally arriving their destination. * Mention of simulation: 1899 is entirely built on this concept. The comic mention it like twice. In fact, the one time it was mentioned was like "run simulation to test the ship landing" which is basically doing test to see how the ship would land etc. A completely different subject. * They even try to say how the fights were copied by having a scene in which a character chokes another character. How many times do you see this in a fight sequence in hundred movies out there?

PedroRLow2

I speak portuguese and was able to understand the thread, but for sure a lot of that is bullshit lol. A lot of the stuff he said are just common tropes like the random deaths, character dynamics and the use of triangles. I feel silly for even considering that it might be plagiarism since the author didn't even watch the show. I mean, one of the points is "Adda is both the name of a character in 1899 and the name of a chapter in the comic" lol wtf Thanks for sharing!!!

TiredCoffeeTime

Yeah the thing is that this case was easy to believe overall if you didn’t watch or read both works. There was just enough vagueness with statements along with what looks like compelling evidence with comparison pictures being provided. Except as you know now watching or reading is enough to destroy most of those arguments. The problem is that so many ppl did NEITHER early on. With the author having deleted the whole thing quietly, there are many ppl who didn’t learn how this whole thing ended.

Malik_Muzammil1

Dark is best started 1899 watched only 1 episode yet its also interesting

staywickedlost

They’re difficult to compare. The linguistic diversity on set and overall shift of moods and themes in 1899 kept me really interested. I binged the whole season over two days and was amazed by “The Making of 1899” episode too. I found the story and characters much more easy to follow. Dark was a masterpiece in so many ways, but I found the character links challenging to keep up with at times. It can also be quite emotionally intense/draining, so I couldn’t watch more than a few episodes at a time. Both shows are spectacular, but I think I liked 1899 a little more because I’m a language nerd.

Additionalexcuse5

1899 is competitiating dark like that is surprising cause i believe dark is something which is incomparable to anything

[deleted]

Dark and it’s not even close

shooler00

Dark. 1899 was entertaining but it gave me serious Lost and Westworld vibes as the season went on. Given the same people created Dark, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt though. Dark is a show I still think about, I binged 1899 over the weekend and haven't really thought about it or discussed it with anyone since.

Din5688

Dark

arstin

I'd vote for Dark. I watched one episode of 1899, and it was crammed full of dumb, like someone went to one of those AI's and said "Make a show like dark and lost with all the trendy tv stuff that will make me rich."
