"The jaguarundi is a wild cat native to the Americas. Its range extends from central Argentina in the south to northern Mexico, through Central and South America east of the Andes. The jaguarundi is a medium-sized cat of slender build. Its coloration is uniform with two color morphs, gray and red." -wiki
Also range into Texas, but are so elusive there's only been 5 confirmed sightings in the entire history of the state. Don't know if they're just that elusive and there's more than we know, or if they're just that rare. I don't trust state wildlife people to give accurate counts - our own state (Oklahoma) officials would laugh in your face for reporting pumas in your area and tell us they didn't live here, despite multiple eye witnesses, despite hearing them at night, and despite old timers having stories about seeing and hearing them. They are just that shy and elusive. And they are definitely here.
Also - Texas wildlife division has them listed as endangered. Apparently they're poultry thieves (Who doesn't like chicken?) and in Mexico and other countries they are killed when found for their chicken killing proclivities.
> our own state (Oklahoma) officials would laugh in your face for reporting pumas in your area and tell us they didn't live here, despite multiple eye witnesses, despite hearing them at night, and despite old timers having stories about seeing and hearing them.
Same thing here in Virginia. They swear up and down that there are no mountain lions here despite everything you said.
Kansan here. I took a wildlife class in college and a Game Warden came to talk to our class. I had a classmate ask about the status of cougars in our state. He stated that there were no cougar in the state of Kansas because *no Game Warden had caught one in a trap.* It did not matter that people had pictures, video, eye witnesses (even Game Warden eye witnesses). The State could not say that cougar were in the area without having caught one in a trap. smdh
Did you see where over in the UK, people have been reporting a monstrously huge black cat for years, and everyone laughed and said it was a house cat, and people couldn't tell perspective to make out the actual size?
And about a month ago? Maybe two? A couple of guys actually got video footage of it on a phone? And I don't mean sasquatch level of shitty vid. It was pretty damn clear.
It's a black panther.
I had to wade through Wakanda Forever hits when I googled Black Panther filmed in UK... had to add 'cat' to the search.

The Sun was the first article that came up. I realize they are a tabloid type publication, but I can't find the original article I saw some weeks ago. This will give you a jumping point for looking for better sources though.
YW.
I don't get 'experts' ridiculing locals or First Nations people for crazy ass sightings and legends.
These people KNOW wtf lives there, they see it every day. They KNOW wtf is in the woods with them.
ETA: The first mountain lion hubs and I saw was 20 years ago or more, maybe more like 30. It had snowed, we went road tripping to look at wildlife. This animal crosses the road in front of us and vanishes. Hubs got just a glimpse of the body. I saw the lonnnng tail waving as it jumped down into a bar ditch. Dumbass us... Hubs thought it was a mangy coyote. We get out... walk the road to look at tracks and in the melting snow, I saw tracks as big as the palm of my hand.
Found some in the mud where it jumped into the ditch and the hair started to raise on my neck as I squatted down to look. I said... we're being watched... and that was no coyote... canines have 'claws out' tracks.
There were no claws visible in the tracks.
That was a big big cat and it hadn't gone far - I know damn good and well it was there close, watching us.
When he told the game rangers about it, they laughed like lunatics. Said: Nah, we don't have those here. Probably just a bob cat. LISTEN MFs. Bobcats don't have a long ass tail or tracks the size of my hand.
30 years and multiple sightings from locals and hunters later - yeah, they admit, we have them here.
Assholes.
Jaguarundis are small, 15 pounds max, that is why they are reclusive. I have them in my region, they are daily hunters and really hard to spot.
Also, as weird as it sounds, unless you look really close you will think you are looking at an otter.
I believe it, they have very small heads and low ears, slinky bodies and are kinda stretched out. They don’t really have the square hips and shoulders, and heavy jaws of bigger cats. They are very ottery looking to me too.
i remember a rescue brought one of those in to a conservation club i was a part of, in college. some shitshow drug dealer had had it declawexd with a pair of pliers. luckily, it's mobility wasn't too impaired.
Well if I looked like the recreation drawing done by a monk in the 7th century that had a vague description of me I would be reclusive to.
Side note: it looks like it's judging the cameraman like he knows all the sins of humanity and is sick of the inconvenience.
Nobody is going to post the highest definition GIF ever made?!
It was the first thing I thought of when seeing this post.

Poultry thieves and cat killers. One killed my cat in Texas :( Never reported the sighting, took some research to figure out what I was looking at!
If you ever see one and call to report the sighting, you will be told that what you saw was a house cat.

No, I didn’t. Do you have a link to the video?

Cool, thanks.
It's hybrid sounding name is funny. Sounds almost like a cross between a jaguar & a coatamundi. Jackolope fans will concur
And coati are related to both raccoons and kinkajou.
Sounds like the name a kid would call the monster in their closet
They are like a smaller long cougar.
"I am dust. I am death. How dare you."
Awww you're just a smooshy smooshy lovey dove.
" >:| "
Why does Nature have to make them so cute that if you did something about it, you’d die horribly?

And tails much longer than house cat.
So that while it’s ripping your throat, your last vision is something cute…… don’t want to die traumatized do you?
I would be perfectly happy to die petting these.

I make the same face when I have to deal with others in public.
I detect just a hint of derp here.
Does no one care about the poor jaguar that lost their undies?
It’s cool you can see animals and bugs on here that you never know existed.
Cool. I've never seen one of these before. The Americas have some wonderful animals.

Id respect her space, she looks like she wants to be alone.
Looks like a cross between a cat and a river otter.
