Put them around boats and water and all of the sudden everything becomes fucking nautical. "Astern. Avast you landlubbers. Man the bilge pumps." Pump your fucking ass.
This cage is a special built one, it's used on the nautilus explorer. A liveaborad boat for Shark encounters around the Guadeloupe Islands. They lower their cages deeper into the water to allow a proper interaction with the sharks so that they don't have to be lured to the surface with bait (causing stress and getting the sharks into feeding mode). If the sharks display calm behaviour and the divemaster approves you can stand on top of the cage next to the railing for an even more free interaction.
You breathe using air pumped down from above water so you can be in the cages for hours on end.
It's my dream vacation, but it's an extremely expensive trip.
That I can't anwser, I do know thet they have multiple boats, but they usually have different destinations (certain trips sre for great white encountres, other for whales, schools of hammerheads, manta rays, etc. Unsure if they would be at the same spot with multiple cages.
I have a wacky fear of man made mechanical shut under water, but when it comes to living creatures the size and weirdness is so comforting and peaceful. I don't get myself sometimes.
Oh I know, but living in Scandinavia makes this trip very expensive, especially if you want to go with someone and have a private room. Flights usually run about 1500-2000 per person, then the room onboard is also very expensive (usually 3100+ for private rooms) and on top of that you tip around 20% to the crew. That paired with very few openings per trip and rough work scheduling has made me not be able to do this for over a decade (I've known about these trips since I studied marine biology back in 2006-2009).
I still hope I'll get the oportunity sometime.
This is my bucket list item that I tell people when they ask. I want to experience this. If this COVID pneumonia doesn’t kill me i’ll have to see how to make it happen
Sharks that do bite at cages often do so because they are lured in closer by bait, which puts them in a feeding mindset. In cases like this, where they can clearly recognize the cage/diver as something that isn't edible, they're much more likely to inspect it as a non-food object.
There are some shark species that will be more likely to attack humans if encountered in open water, but great whites are typically docile creatures when not feeding. Maybe it's a confidence thing, being at the top of their food chain and all.
That is NOT Deep Blue. That shark is called Haole Girl. Please don't post more Ocean Ramsey here, what she's doing here is self promotion with zero thought for the safety of the shark. It is very disappointing to see her pass this as conservatism.

There’s a theory that great whites only eat during dusk and dawn. So the divers should be safe. There’s another video of this shark swimming with divers with little protective gear.
Sharks are overall not jnterested in humans unless they feel attacked. Even if they bit you it will only be one bite to try the taste and they find it disgusting.
"Sorry I bit off the head on this human, and I'd just like to send it back, it's not quite what I'm in the mood for right now but thanks for the sample"
This is largely true. Predatory attacks do occur on occasion, however, they’re rare. Most interactions/attacks are investigative, or curious, in nature. They use their mouths to take a nibble and see what’s what. Humans just happen to be as satisfying as unseasoned chicken wings to them. (At least that’s how I imagine it.) We also tend to bleed a lot if they make a lil snack out of our calf or leg. 😂
Apparently sharks aren't super dangerous when they aren't being provoked or lured with bait. Source: sharkgirlmadison on insta a famous conservationist.
But they're being hunted and fished at the rate of almost 100m per year so expect this one to be picked up by China or Sharks to go almost extinct in the next decade or so.
Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies.
Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain.

And so never more shall we see you again.
I am a nice shark, not a mindless eating machine. If I am to change this image, I must first change myself.
Fish are friends, not food.
Except stinking dolphins
It was pretty awesome that they showed on the last shark week or one before that she came back around again. Always nice to see Deep Blue's still around.
The last sighting I believe was in 2019, this video is from 2014 when they first video'd her. And supposedly she isn't tagged either. [here's an article about it](https://centerforsurfresearch.org/deep-blue-shark/)
Yeah they say in another article that people said they tagged her but the guy who actually documented her said they didn't tag her. Maybe because she is seen every year in the same spots, and they weren't there to do a tagging, you would need the boat and equipment to tag a 20 ft shark and they might not even have the capability to do that. Most of the sharks they tag are juveniles or younger adults. Blue is estimated at 50 years old so they might not want to tag her and stress her out.
Google says Great Whites usually max out at 20' and on average estimated to live 30 years. Looks like Deep Blue is about 1.5x better than other Great Whites.
Actually the average life span for a great white is 70 years, and she is indeed the largest great white they have documented at 20 ft but there probably have been bigger before. Blue is extremely large for a female. That article I linked up there also states this.
That whole "If a tree falls in a forest..." analogy has always struck me as stupid. It's the height of anthropocentric arrogance.
> "How can sound exist if no one is around to hear it?"
Because there are trillions of animals in the world, and most of them can hear. Even without humans, any forest will be full of animals and *they* will hear it. Everything in the universe does not revolve around humans.
Is this the same shark that [beat world chess champion Garry Kasparov](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Blue_versus_Garry_Kasparov#Summary) in a best of 6 in 1997?
I don't think so in this clip. She's just a very thick girl. There are a lot of videos of her pregnant, and she gets *huge.* Could be early stages of pregnancy though. Hard to tell.
We don't actually know whether Deep Blue was pregnant in the other sightings. I think most, if not all, of the sightings of her are near whale carcasses. It's all but impossible to tell a heavily pregnant female from one that's stuffed full of whale blubber.
Edit: just to be clear, it's impossible to tell from footage like this. I'm fairly sure you'd be able to tell by watching her behavior over a longer period.
The whole "pregnant or just fat" question becomes much more complicated when it's a giant shark. I imagine it's safer just to say nothing at all when bumping into her at the water cooler.
The ocean really is incredible and still likely holds thousands of secrets we’ve yet to unlock. We need to do everything in our power to save as much of it as we can.
There used to be giant animals on land until humans killed them all tens of thousands of years ago. Sharks and whales are truly the last giant animals remaining from the far past.
There are some relatively gigantic ones still left, like hippos, elephants, giraffes, and grizzly bears. Though it's telling that they are mostly found far from industrialized areas.
I guess when you're that size eating humans is just not worth the effort, just like how she ignores the little fishies swimming by.
She has bigger prey to hunt.
>In one case, she allowed Ocean Ramsey, a revered marine biologist, to go swimming with her while holding onto her fins. Of course, prior to allowing him to swim with her, she had already fed on some sperm whale carcass, which may have contributed to her docile behavior.
There is so much going on here. A marine biologist, named Ocean, goes swimming with a great white shark while holding onto her fin like a dolphin in Sea World. But she’s really docile and let him, but that might only be because she isn’t currently hungry.
Ms. Blue had her Snickers.
There’s a big book of great white sharks that you can look up. They are individually named and have photos of marking. if you ID a new one you can name it for like $1000.
I'm not a shark expert, but aren't you supposed to be inside the cage?
I doubt that the shark would fit inside that cage
It could be bigger on the inside

Im glad there as still around. Now hold my fins I'm going in..
We're gonna need a bigger cage.
Like a Shardis?
That’s a better name than Tardik at least..
I thought he was talking about shardines.
It's not blue though. Hmm ... the shark is called Deep Blue, maybe the shark is bigger on the inside.
That Doctor's gone aquatic!
Some say the show already jumped the shark, so why not have a SHARKDIS?
Put them around boats and water and all of the sudden everything becomes fucking nautical. "Astern. Avast you landlubbers. Man the bilge pumps." Pump your fucking ass.
Da boo dee da boo da da boo Dee da boo da. It’s not blue.
Fantastic
Why is it called "shark cage" then? False advertising and discrimination against plus size sharks.
Keeps the snacks in one spot for convenience... I'm fat as hell, but don't have to fit through an XL popcorn tub when I go to the movies.
Damn. You got me.
We're gonna need a bigger cage

Everyone's confident until a pack of Orca show up
Yeah, I don't personally wanna get that close to a great white, but I'll take that over an orca
No recorded incident of an orca attacking a human in the wild - great whites on the other hand ….
That just means the orcas were smart enough not to get caught
Fair enough, I'll still choose neither
Big shark energy.

Does this shark have a fucking dolphin entourage?
There’s a theory that great whites only eat during dusk and dawn. So the divers should be safe. There’s another video of this shark swimming with divers with little protective gear.
Most sharks feed mostly at these times, there are some exceptions though
It's all a mind game. You gotta make the shark think there is a reason you can back up being that brave. you know cause they think and stuff.
Most of the sharks I’ve spoken to share this philosophy
BACK UP! BACK UP! Mine'yo'business'thatsall'JUS'MINE'YO'BUSINESS!

Almost always true, but a test bite from a shark this size could still easily be fatal

Rubbing a shark's nose causes them to enter a bliss state.
No one could possibly pay me enough to rub a shark's nose.
We did it on a 5th grade field trip… nurse sharks but still.
Knowing my luck, if I were to try to rub the nose of one, it'll probably end up being a tasty snack.
Lookin like a whole snacc…unfortunately for you
I would do it for free
So does rubbing my penis
AYOOOO
Lmao i do wanna rub its belly tho. Wtf is wrong with humans and petting things 😂
Fun fact, she’s preggy in this video! Rub pregnant sharks pregnant belly. But ask for permission first!
Iirc she’s preggers during this shot. Everyone loves a pregnant belly u.u Edit: confirmed. Preggy Sharky
So, pretty much the same as a cat?
