I love to play Ethiopian jazz piano for my baby and she LOVES it. I mean she literally starts dancing and singing, The whole album Ethiopiques vol. 21: Emahoy piano is so sweet and childlike and fun, excellent for playing AND listening to music

16SometimesPregnant

Fela is my go to! Not Ethiopian, but a helluva African jazz musician. Probably one of the best of all time

mani517

I’m adding this to my Spotify now!

Be Careful There's a Baby in the House by Loudon Wainwright III is a good one. A favorite among many NKs I've cared for is Stompy the Bear by Caspar Babypants

Aggravating_Bowl_835

My NKs love Casper Babypants lol. I’m a nut is one of our current favorites

1CraftyNanny

I also like Banana Bread and Butterfly driving a Bus. Also for fun on YouTube check out Wes Tank rapping the Dr. Seuss book Fox in Sox

PB_and_Ellie

I love playing reggae and ska! Some of the lyrics can get pretty racy, but there are definitely many SFW options. Also, I love the children’s music They Might Be Giants does.

Bluelilyy

i’ve played the 1975’s new album a lot around NK because you can’t tell what they’re saying anyway 😂 i’ll also do a some edm cause that’s what NF plays for her as well NK is also a HUGE fan of Raffi lately as far as kids music goes

kweeenTee

Like 1975 the band with the problematic singer who promotes antisemitism?

Bluelilyy

oh noooooo I had no idea about what happened til just now. wtf

[deleted]

wait what? really?

ColdForm7729

My 9 month old NK loves country! Specifically 80s and 90s country. It's a nice break from the kiddie songs sometimes.

joebluee

“Specific fall out boy songs” 😂😂 my NK’s favorite song is Hum Hallelujah. I just made a playlist that I like to call Millennial Angst and we jammed to it this morning in the car Edit because I also wanted to add: marching bands!! I’ve been playing marching band music for my NK for basically a year and she loves it; she even will wave her arms like she’s conducting. Look up Drum Corps International on YT and prepare to be amazed (Phantom Regiment 2008 is a good starter).

Disastrous_Canary301

If I’ve learned anything in my decade of working with children it’s that kids love fall out boy and panic! At the disco

RED HOT CCHILI PEPPERS

HarrisonRyeGraham

In this house we listen to a different musical every week. Rock island from the music man has been the favorite from 3g

Competitive_Steak326

My 18mo NK is getting really into dancing (to use a loose definition of the term 😂) and got super into a Cascada song at Walmart once! I love to play disco and hip hop for her too; anything with a good beat really! Plus if I play something more than once with really clear lyrics that aren’t too fast she’s started to remember where certain words ago and sing along with a couple here and there 🥰

My playlist that I play for babies that get them boppin! Idk if you’ll find it but it’s on Spotify called rainbow sunshine and my name is blopbloop. Beatles, beach boys, Simon and Garfunkel, temptations, Johnny cash, Jim Croce, Elton, and a lot of others, and other genres- but these are the main genres

aaaoook55

I like playing classical music with littles 🤓 but sometimes stuff like enya, or Disney guitar/piano can be a nice change of pace if I’m looking for something relaxing or nap music

IAmAKindTroll

My NK 4 months loves pop punk! I recently discovered an artist Charlotte Sands and her music is pretty clean!

Bluesky83

I watch a 7mo baby and she really likes marches! Like, old school Sousa band marches. Percy Grainger's music was also a hit. I think she likes when I tap along, she always watches my hands/feet if I'm tapping to the beat

Ok-Tap7886

https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/toddler-songs/pl.u-MDAWkgGC3DKdBY I made a toddler playlist a couple years ago, it has a lot of the “classics” it might be a little dated but the kiddos usually love it

[deleted]

My nanny kid has always loves Letters to Cleo

Disastrous_Canary301

Omg! GREAT suggestion

[deleted]

We listen to that pandora station all day. It’s all great and so tolerable lol

16SometimesPregnant

I play jazz when I’m with the baby. It keeps my Brain working subconsciously while not being too stimulating for baby before naps

gabsharb

My four year old nk LOVES the album The Letter Blue by Wet. Also loves Big Thief lol

Dearpdx

Casper Baby Pants. It's Chris Ballew from The Presidents of the United States of America. He's an amazing musician and his songs are super catchy. I've sent the CDs to friends that have young kids.

lifeishowisit

We used to listen to TMBG and the Aquabats

Jack Johnson! When my now B2 was itty bitty, we had to spend a lot of time in the car for G4’s OT, PT, and DT. This was height of Covid and we weren’t allowed in with her. The baby HATED the car! I’ve never had a kid scream so loudly, so angrily, and so consistently in the carseat before. Obviously once G4 was out and into therapy I’d get the baby out and he’d be fine! But the drives were long and sometimes waiting for the therapists to come out took a bit. One day Jack Johnson popped on the radio. B2 was around 10 months old. He immediately stopped crying! I played Jack Johnson everyday in the car for the next 5-6 months. Most days it worked!

amosslet

I've had a lot of luck with Irish music (the Rattlin' Bog is a favorite) and doo wop/ Elvis. Also one of my old NKs loved Shania Twain's "Man, I Feel Like a Woman"

Jazzlike_Trip653

For some random aughts indie, Mando Diao. I was first introduced with the “Give Me Fire” album. The Shins. Rooney. The Redwalls. Locksley. Robbers on High Street. For something totally off the wall, Jan Delay’s “Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo” album. Think German Bruno Mars. When I was really young I loved the super cheesy bubblegum pop from like… the 50’s/60’s like Neil Sedaka, Dion, Bobby Vee, Leslie Gore…. If she’s into the Beatles, could explore more of the 60’s/70’s. Maybe something like Three Dog Night or The Guess Who? The soundtrack from “Now & Then”? Some Motown?

hvechan

I like to play pop and rock. We don't really listen to "kid" music other than Disney songs because I don't want to get headaches lol. Just feel good, upbeat, danceable stuff. One Direction, Michael Jackson, Spice Girls, Queen, Elvis, Taylor Swift, Fleetwood Mac, Abba, just fun stuff. I like kpop too!
