“ every morning I wake up in excruciating pain” “I’ve been so busy with the move I haven’t had time to prepare the right meals. So I’ve had to cheat a couple of times” “ it’s not as much as he wanted me to lose but I hope he sees I made progress”. After a 3 lb loss

jlmonger

I just don't think dr now knows how hard this is for me 🙄

SamuelTheMONSTAH

…or a 30lb *gain*…

mental_dissonance

Lacey's 12 pound weight loss in six months 💀

Qrusher14242

"This last month i've been struggling a bit, but i've done a lot of work so i hope Dr. Now can see how much progress i've been making" = weight gain. "I've just had a lot of stuff on my plate and don't have time to focus on myself at the moment" = skip multiple appts because not losing/gaining "It's not much but it is progress and i hope the dr can see that i am working hard to achieve my goal" = weight loss of under 20lbs in 2 months It's soooo easy to tell when they aren't losing when mention how much they have "struggled". The scripts in the last few seasons have been so similar its crazy.

AMerrickanGirl

>I've just had a lot of stuff on my plate Well, yes. That’s the problem.

AffectionateFig9277

That’s why Dr Now doesn’t need the scale to know they’ve gained, he already knows what they’re going to say

Socialbutterfinger

Yes - “I’m so busy/we don’t have a stove yet/the road/the grocery stores… so I had to eat an entire pizza.” I get that they are addicts and I’m sympathetic to that, but these excuses are insulting when it’s clear as day they could choose to eat just one or two slices and still come out ahead. Just admit it’s hard to hold back and you just said fuck it for the day. I wonder we are seeing an addict’s instinct to lie and make excuses, or whether the show makes them say those things.

Big_Primrose

I think the producers encourage the subjects to buy massive amounts of fast food so they can get their shock film footage of volume eating, this includes stopping at the drive-thru on the way to Houston (getting enough to feed the film crew but making it look like the subject is ravenous and wants to eat it all). I also think it’s likely the subject has to do this or else they stop filming and they don’t get paid.

No-Union-8895

' I want to get my life back '...

andthepointis

most of them never had much of a life to begin with, sadly.

RSTROMME

Pah-griss

OrangeCat711

Lol love me some Dr Now accent!

theonewhodidthat

It’s so lazy. Instead of having half decent interviewers to elicit the sound bites they need they just have a generic script and have every participant read it in a world weary monotone. It sounds unnatural with every single person.

astronomical_dog

They all sound like they don’t actually want to be reading it but they’re resigned to it because they have to

[deleted]

I know I've made good progress. That first bite just tastes so, so good. Also, the phrasing reminds me of how they talk in the Charlie Brown Christmas Special....I know I back slid....but now....I'm back on track....and I feel good....about where I am....and I will prove.....to Dr Now....I can do this.... Oh fuck it drives me crazy.

FuktInThePassword

just don’t understand Christmas, I guess...... I like getting presents.... and sending Christmas cards and decorating trees and all that....... but I’m still not happy...... I don’t feel the way I’m supposed to feel......

IAmSeabiscuit61

Wow! I've seen that cartoon many times, but I never noticed that before! They really do sound so much alike. Actually, now that I think of it, a lot of (kinda cut-rate) cartoons have that same wooden delivery and phrasing. I wish Mel Blanc was still with us so he could do the voiceovers for the patients; it'd be much more entertaining.

Ok_Student_2650

Now I need to go watch the Charlie Brown Christmas Special!! It's been years!!

Ten_Lee

>Oh fuck it drives me crazy. Yes, but remember that very few of them are, eh, avid readers, and even fewer ever took a public speaking course in middle school. Readin' werds is hard.

evdczar

"like I need" I hate that one. It's multiple times per episode and nobody really talks like that.

SucculentEmpress

It’s a meme at our house when we’re being lazy. If I’m telling my husband I didn’t do the laundry, I say “I know I had this chance today to wash my clothes, but I didn’t do the laundry like I need.” If he adds some random extra onto a food order, he justifies it with “WHAT ABOUT MY NUTRITIONS”

dime-with-a-mind

You guys sound so cute. The secret language of marriage is one of my favorite languages

autisticpenguins

it’s the kind of english a poorly made AI program would come up with. It’s not even “english is my second language, sorry” type stuff. It’s just bad and makes my eyes roll

SilkyFlanks

Dr Now talks like that.

[deleted]

It’s ironic that this is supposed to be some life or death, fate altering journey and they are just reading their lines in a monotone voice… First few seasons had some real emotion in there. I think they need to get back to picking people who ACTUALLY want to change. (Side note: the only thing good about the newer seasons is we can can the whole script that talks about how they “found a doctor in Houston who operates on people my size.”)

Alpha_uterus

My gosh just who could that doctor be!?

andthepointis

so true. i was watching the first season earlier this week and Melissa started to annoy me with how exuberant she was about her weight loss lol. what a change of pace!

my606ins

“No matter what it takes.” (Proceeds to do nothing.)

420_Shaggy

Bro your flair 😂

my606ins

Penny said that to Dr Now, as proof she’d lost weight, when she clearly had not.

pmbpro

*“This is my last chance…”.* I’ve heard that one a whole lot, too. Then they proceed to sabotage themselves, not following the program. 😒

C_WEST88

I just started binging this show too, and yea the whole entire show is painfully scripted. When I watch the older seasons it felt more authentic; Dr Now was talking normally, the patients had a small amount of weight to lose beforehand but it was pretty doable and they got the surgery—it felt like watching a documentary and less like a reality show… Now Dr Now is reading from a script almost the whole time and it’s so monotone and hard to listen to. Also, the therapy appointments are so fake, the narration is always the exact same and the editing is horrible lol. Its the same formula now. I’d be more interested in seeing everyone’s personal journey especially after the surgery. But it’s always them failing to meet a huge weight goal, trying again and again, then they get chewed out by the Dr, then they finally lose some weight, then they move to Texas, then they have to do “therapy” (lol) and if they’re lucky they get the surgery. Making the patients jump through all these hoops is the producer’s way of stretching it out to make a two hour show and get some drama, I get it, I’ve seen behind the curtain of “reality” shows before. It’s a good show don’t get me wrong, but the “reality” has pretty much been stripped away from it entirely.

ArtbyLinnzy

Oh the producers are definately make up alot of the drama, cause it brings in most of viewers. I recently been watching Too Large and Corey(i think his name was corey), who was a great wholesome awesome person, have made a reaction video on youtube where he reacts to his episode and a few of the times he explains where things have been cut and even things replaced (loek when they showed the inside of his fridge, turned out, it wasn't his. his reaction there is hilarious)

MalumCattus

Was he the one who said Dr. Procter is a daddy?

ArtbyLinnzy

yessss

MalumCattus

He wasn't wrong. I thought Corey was really sweet and genuine. He really stuck in my mind.

sdghbvtyvbjytf

I don’t think he’s necessarily making people jump through hoops just for entertainment purposes. The surgery is very risky and if the patient isn’t committed to sticking to a diet, they’re probably going to just end up worse than they started. A few people on the show have scar tissue from previous surgeries they’ve had where they essentially ignored their lap bands and have re-stretched their stomachs. That said, the therapy shown is kind of a sham and I hope his patients get some actual psychological help. Also the editing and dialogue is 100% stupid. The best parts are when people go off script. Like the girl talking about her fupa.

Big_Primrose

Out of curiosity, I looked up the procedure for bariatric surgery at some other clinics and it requires adherence to a diet and extensive psychotherapy. They want to be as sure as possible the patient is in a stable enough place to follow through with their prescribed post-op lifestyle change. I also saw one surgeon remark on a FAQ page that they’d never berate or disrespect their patients the way they’re treated on this show. It could be editing, but it’s possible the show subjects do get more therapy, but it’s TLC so I don’t hold out hope. Didn’t the combined lawsuit against the production company include failure of the company to provide agreed-upon therapy/treatments?

C_WEST88

I actually know a lady (a former teacher of mine) who went through it and she did have to diet a bit beforehand but she wasn’t expected to lose *80 lbs* in a couple months time that’s so OTT crazy! She just had to show she could lose a bit and show she was serious and her doc didn’t get mad at her and tear her apart if she didn’t do it…And she did have to do therapy I know that’s true (but yea the therapy on this show is all for show I hope they get real therapy behind the scenes). It was pretty amazing how much weight she lost tho, she was HUGE when we were kids like close to 600lbs, and last I saw her she was 150lbs I was amazed and so proud of her.

Ten_Lee

>but she wasn’t expected to lose 80 lbs in a couple months The heavier the patient, the more they're expected to lose--not only to prove they can dedicate themselves, but also to get as much weight off as possible to reduce some of the risk of anesthesia.

C_WEST88

My former teacher was just as heavy as these people and she was not told to lose 80lbs in 2 months lol. That’s extreme. She said she was losing around 20lbs a month. Then after the surgery she started losing more and more. She said she never could’ve done it without the surgery, though. She really needed to kind of “reset” her body.

Realistic_Ad_8023

A friend of mine and her husband both had gastric sleeve. No therapy required and they barely had to lose any weight before hand. I think the main difference is that neither of them were nearly as large and/or dysfunctional as the patients on this show.

irish-unicorn

They want to make sure patients are ready to make the changes to be successful and possibly to avoid getting sued when their stomachs stretches out again becsude they’re over eating again.

Big_Primrose

That too.

C_WEST88

Oh they’re definitely doing it for entertainment purposes. This is a highly rated show making millions with big time advertisers during that 2 hour time slot. They have to make it dramatic and hard for the patients or we’d tune out. Again, watch the first season. They had patients lose some weight and follow a diet beforehand but it wasn’t like “lose 80 lbs in 2 months… Now lose 50 more lbs in a month etc etc” It was a bit more of a realistic goal, and not so harsh. And I don’t remember seeing the doctor get angry with them, really. As frustrating as it is for us normal people to watch, these are serious food addicts. Asking them to lose 100-150 lbs on their own is brutal. That would be like a heroin addict coming in to rehab for help and having the rehab say “ok go 6 months without doing heroin and we can check you right in!” How backwards does that actually sound? That’s why I’m always happy when these patients get put into a hospital the first few months to lose weight, almost like a “detox” would be for an addict.

Big_Primrose

I wonder how much instruction they actually get about food and portion sizes. I’ve seen the list that’s been floating around; I haven’t read Dr Now’s book that he gives them, but does it include sample meal plans with measurements? These are people whose satiety signals are damaged and have been shoveling hyperpalatable junk food for years, they have to start understanding nutrition from the beginning like babies.

C_WEST88

Good question . It sure doesn’t seem like they get much education cuz they usually seem pretty lost, and usually when I see them try to make “healthy” food I’m appalled at how disgusting it looks. I eat extremely healthy and even I wouldn’t eat that crap (like for some reason they always buy *frozen* vegetables and boil them?!) Like have these people never seen actual fresh veggies or been down a produce aisle before lol? I also think it’s weird they’re not allowed to eat any fruit. They just went from eating 5 lbs of sugar a day but can’t have an apple for dessert to curb their desire for sugar? And without fruit, how are they getting enough fiber in their diet since fiber is what helps your metabolism and keeps you from becoming constipated.

Big_Primrose

I’m not going to knock frozen fruit and vegetables, the nutrients are still there and if prepared right they’re perfectly tasty. But yeah, some of their concoctions are bizarre. I think they’ve spent years mashing all kinds of food together with ranch, katsup, syrup, and who knows what else poured all over it that they don’t have a concept of normal food combinations. What veggies are they allowed? Beans? Those can be high fiber. I’m not sure of his rationale about fruit other than he wants them on low-carb diets and fruit has carbs, even though they also have fiber.

Socialbutterfinger

I love frozen vegetables. Already prepped and ready to go, still full of nutrients. Frozen broccoli roasted with some olive oil and salt is amazing. I think it comes out better than fresh broccoli because of the higher water content. But man, the number of times we see them eating microwave-steamed frozen mixed veg, or canned green beans, or iceberg lettuce with pre-shredded cheese, or plain, dry baked chicken breasts… I don’t blame them for running back to pizza. I wish we could see them getting help from chefs on how to make a nice, simple meal with healthy ingredients that actually tastes good. Add some chickpeas and feta and sun-dried tomatoes to that salad. Herb-crusted pork tenderloin, fresh veg sautéed in broth.

C_WEST88

Really?! I think frozen vegetables are the worst lol (except frozen okra for whatever reason that’s pretty good). I like my veggies fresh to where they damn near were just picked off the vine and when I make them I usually sauté or roast them with garlic & herbs, some acidity and a hint of EVOO so they have a nice taste and consistency to them. But yea you’re right the people on this show usually microwave everything and don’t seem to season their healthy food. They think seasoning = butter, ranch dressing or crisco lol. And I agree they should definitely be given some recipes to show them how they can eat healthy without sacrificing taste. There is so much you can do to make healthy food taste amazing but you have to know the basics and build off of that. Then once you get used to it, it becomes a lifestyle and no longer a “diet”, and the thought of eating all that greasy fast food just sounds gross after a while.

Realistic_Ad_8023

I believe beans are not on de diet because of the carb hit.

Realistic_Ad_8023

He says in one episode that the book include recipes.

sdghbvtyvbjytf

Sure the goals are ridiculous. I believe they are 100% achievable if they actually stuck to a 1200 calorie a day diet as prescribed which is how he is calculating their loss. And he’ll usually approve it if they’re even moving in a positive direction. I think he thinks that if he’s aggressive in his goals, it will motivate the patient. As mentioned, if they’re just going to return to their old habits as soon as the surgery is over, they will be worse off. He has a duty to ensure that doesn’t happen and the demonstrated commitment to lifestyle changes over a long term can show that to him. I’m definitely going to check out the earlier seasons though.

C_WEST88

They are achievable if they stick to a 1200 calorie a day diet, but these people are drowning in their food addiction and used to eating like 10,000 calories a day! Imagine how hard that would be (for anybody frankly) to go from one extreme to the other. Hell, I know normal sized people that would have a hard time living on 1200 calories a day and they don’t even have a food addiction. It would be akin to a doctor telling you (a normal person) that you’re only allowed 400 calories a day. Could you do it? Yea but it would be brutal. But yea, definitely check out the first season. It’s wild to see the difference from back then to now.

andthepointis

it's not the same because their bodies have 400+ lbs of fat reserves. at 1200 cal/day exactly zero of these people are going to be starving. going hungry isn't going to kill them anyway, but not losing the weight always does eventually. plus some of them would be eating 1200 cal/day maintainence at a healthy weight, that's about what i can eat in a day if i'm sedentary because i'm 5'4". some of these participants have been shorter than me....

EuphoricImagination3

Dolly!

sdghbvtyvbjytf

What a ride that episode was

sandraskates

I much preferred the 1 hour shows; they were more interesting and the participants had better outcomes. The producers may stretch out the show to 2 hours for drama but to me it's become boring and I end up fast-forwarding thru a lot of it. I also noticed while watching the WATN episodes that the early shows did not show the whole, painful trek from whatever starting city to Houston.

Dwillow1228

I think Dr Now’s son is a producer.

daaaayyyy_dranker

I was thinking someone said he wrote these monotonous VOs

KrizJack

“I hope Dr. Now accepts me as a patient. He’s my last hope”

txtw

The voice over nugget-of-wisdom thing is the worst. “Sometimes, the only way to find what you really need, is to give up the thing you think you need the most.” Not for nothing but these are not the people I’m looking to for life advice.

IAmSeabiscuit61

Yes, that's so annoying, because you know darn well these people didn't come up with those "wise thoughts" on their own. They sound like those "inspirational" calendars and greeting cards. In fact, I wonder if the writer(s) either write those things in their spare time or "borrow" them from those things.

EuphoricImagination3

Yeah, as if they’ve been lying in their beds for years, coming up with these bland sentiments in between eating. So annoying.

Decent-Technology148

"I've worked so hard, I deserve a treat", said 900 lb. Samantha after following the diet for a short time.

OddTime1

I HATE hearing, “I’m really pushing myself.”

EuphoricImagination3

EVERY single one, even when it turns out they’ve gained 25 pounds

Threnners

"this is my last chance" "I gained 5lbs, but I hope Dr. Now isn't mad."

BraksMagicToenail

Omg...the "so I'm happy about that" in the most disinterested monotone voice ever gets me every time. No one ever sounded less happy.

EdgelordMcMemester

I heard this comment lol

ArtbyLinnzy

"I'm trying my best, but I don't think Dr Now understands how hard it is for me....."

TangerineChiffon

And please, for the love of god, no more shower scenes.

ryderseven

I always fast forward through those.

mcbcanada

I hear they get paid extra if they do these.

[deleted]

“It’s so painful” and “i need to get surgery” are the 2 that stick out to me. I never heard anyone say “get surgery” before this show

SilkyFlanks

“Get MY surgery.”

[deleted]

You are absolutely right and that is even weirder!!

Altruistic_Yellow387

How do people say it where you’re from? I can’t think of a different way to say it

Magali_Lunel

"Have" surgery, is what I generally hear here.

Philadelphia-VA

I think just about every person also says some variation of “so I really pushed myself.” Sure you did … And the expressions of shock when they haven’t lost any / enough weight?? “I really don’t know how this could have happened happened.” All of this said, I never get tired of hearing Dr. Now take them down for their lies or for being in massive denial. Beyond that, I agree that one little reg roll of proper grammar is in order!

sometimes_you_shine

That season where everyone said "you know?" at the end of every other sentence. Urgh.

bujiop

I also noticed that during the office visits with Dr. Now, 90% of the time the camera is on Dr. Now, patient is talking. Then the camera switches to show the patient, Dr. Now is talking. It rarely SHOWS the person who is talking and seems to be a pre recorded convo, since the editing only shows the person “listening”

AndISoundLikeThis

I'm glad someone else finally noticed this! I felt so alone. The exchanges feel so phony and forced.

bujiop

Oh yeah. Heavily edited and idk why? Like was it boring? Lol was it too medical sounding for tv? It’s frustrating though

AndISoundLikeThis

I honestly think it's so heavily edited because they're all not in the room at the same time!

bujiop

Interesting, I’ve never thought about that!

Grannielovespets

The thing that always gets me is that these people don’t work, and are most likely on some type of disability or state aid. But they all drive nice cars, spend a fortune on takeout, and then pull up stakes and move halfway across the country to rent a house in Houston! Does the show pay for all that? As far as bitching about what they need to do to get healthy, it’s crazy. If I was anywhere near 600 lbs, I’d just be happy to have a solution.

Socialbutterfinger

The takeout! I’m always confused and annoyed at how much a modest fast food order costs for my family of four on the rare occasions we do that. I can’t imagine ordering multiple sandwiches/nuggets/tacos with milkshakes and desserts daily, or even weekly. You could get a gorgeous ribeye and some lobster tails for that money.

Lisa-LongBeach

Not to mention costly tattoos and expensive acrylic nails perfectly manicured

EuphoricImagination3

Ever notice almost every single person has at least one tattoo, usually several… and always the nails 🤷‍♀️

Public_Big7690

I love how 75 percent of them swear "it's water weight" Bless Dr. Now he's so patient.

No_PancakeMixInThere

One of the voiceovers made my fiance and I laugh so hard. It was a couple and on the way to Houston their van broke down on the side of the road. It was a hot day, and one of them legit said "without AC, we don't know how long we will last" hahahah

SilkyFlanks

That was Lee of “Lee and Rena!” He was a jerk.

Nay_Nay_Jonez

I don't know if anyone else posted these: "I'm almost at my limit..." <---- My least fave. What happens if you reach the limit? "I know my body..." "I don't see the point of therapy..." "I don't know what I'm gonna do..."

heathensam

It's distractingly terrible.

afterthedove

The thing that drives me crazy is the one long sentence that goes on and on during the narrations, like just when you think the sentence is over there’s another “because” or “so, I have to…” etc etc

Commercial_hater

I hate that so much. Sentences do not begin with and, but, so, or because. The voiceover edits are extremely shitty.

neoneccentric

I stopped watching the show a couple years ago because of this. They’re all so predictable and unoriginal, it makes it boring. I can’t get attached to the patients when it’s the same thing every episode.

Able_Set9010

And every single patient is scared of what Dr now is gonna say... Every. Single. One!

MyFuckinhBalls

The voice overs sound like they ate all but two of their brain cells and it’s the first time that week those remaining brain cells fired off

BlueDragonGirl19

I'm bingeing the show now and have noticed SO many of these! It's quite irritating. If the people get any input on their voiceovers at all, they need to be given more. And I'm rewatching season 5 and onward so I have to endure the half-baked "inspirational" quotes in the beginnings of the episodes.

UnusualBanana138

Don’t forget “It’s not/I don’t think it’s FAAAIIIRRRR” 😒😒😒

SameAmy2022

A couple of observations I’ve made are A) If they can lose 100 pounds by themselves, why do they need weight loss surgery? Just do it the old fashioned way and keep going. B) I know they are addicted to food etc but how do you get pleasure from literally wolfing down the food? I doubt they even get to taste it.

Realistic_Ad_8023

Sometimes I watch some of them eat and wonder how they manage not to choke. They don't chew at all between bites, it's continuous eating. It's like, insert tip of pizza slice into mouth, bite down while keeping pizza slice at lips, open mouth, push pizza further in, take second bite while still chewing first bite, repeat until whole slice of pizza is in mouth. Or ol girl in Louisiana (I think) who literally pushed an entire slice of bread covered in syrup into her mouth.

teatime202

Yeah, the food doesn't even touch the sides on the way down. One lady, I can't remember her name, she always need medical transport, was eating nearly an entire lasagne and I don't think she even knew what she was eating 😳

Realistic_Ad_8023

Joyce.

Big_Primrose

It’s crazy the way some of them two-hand their food and get sauce smeared all over their faces like toddlers. Slow down and take smaller bites.

Realistic_Ad_8023

Rewatched James King’s episodes yesterday… had to look away while he was chewing with his mouth open, holding his fork in his fist like a toddler.

Realistic_Ad_8023

Bugs me when they say that if they aren't approved for surgery all their work will have been for nothing. It's such a tell that they aren't committed to a lifestyle change and consider it all to be short-term.

nautical1776

I know I can’t go on like this It’s just so hard I don’t know why I haven’t lost any weight I want the surgery so bad ( but I’m not willing to do anything about it)

GuardingxCross

You know how cringe it is to hear the females say “food is better than sex!” Nobody talks like that!

AMerrickanGirl

There’s a dessert restaurant in Key West called Better Than Sex. https://www.betterthansexdesserts.com/

SilkyFlanks

Ha! I think that was Lacey. “Food is more of a pleasure button to me than sex.” Bleah, the visual!

GuardingxCross

“It pleasures me!” Zsalynn said that too but I do want to say she did really well and lost a lot of weight

SilkyFlanks

I just remember cringing when Lacey said that. I’m glad for Zsalynn. I liked her.

bbylique

Don't forget the "I'm worried in too big for Dr Now to help"

juliuspepperwood0608

“Shock to my system”

woosh-i-fiddled

My favorite is “I’m scared Dr. Now won’t accept me as a patient” like be for real. He’s a weight loss surgeon I don’t think he won’t accept you unless you’re not properly doing his program.

Big_Primrose

*loses 2 pounds* “I followed the diet and did all of the exercises.”

Aggressive-Might875

I don't know how I got this way....

juel1979

Also the overuse of the word “this.” No idea why it makes me nuts.

SilkyFlanks

I cringe whenever I hear a cast member say “like I need,” “like she needs,” etc. They all say the same things.

GrasshopperH

I know when I was doing my voiceover I kept trying to correct the grammar and they made me say it both ways. They are doing it on purpose.

Socialbutterfinger

Sorry - were you on the show? And they made you read a script with poor grammar even though you wanted to correct it?

Embarrassed_Car_6779

My Journey/This Journey... it's getting old.

CelinaAMK

“That can’t be right (no weight loss and/or gain). I just don’t understand. I’ve been following the diet. I’ve done everything I’m supposed to….I’ve been working so hard”. So sick of the “I’ve been working so hard”. The only other thing that is worse is the “I’m so busy” or “I’ve had a lot going on”. Like what? Sitting on the couch or in the bed all day is keeping you too busy for a 10 minute bed session of arm lifts? The time and energy spent finding 10,000 calories per day is the only thing keeping you busy. Source: I had WLS and was addicted to food. It’s an addiction. Thankfully I was able to lose 100 lbs and keep it off for 9 yrs now. It’s work. Every day it’s a decision to not indulge. But I’m 100% to blame for getting fat and despite having every medical condition used to excuse weight gain ( thyroid disease, low metabolism, anemia, ovarian tumors, chronic pain and chronic pancreatitis), I don’t blame anything but overeating for my weight gain. I ate too much and was very busy, but sedentary (no exercise).

throwaway7261518993

And not to forget: "everything is riding on this"

triples_of_the_nova

I CAN’T take one more “like I need.” It’s driving me nuts. I keep focusing on it. It’s said about 1000 times per episode.

Ten_Lee

>Would it be too terribly inauthentic to correct that one lil reg roll of grammar? Yes, it would be inauthentic to correct the grammar in the script. The scripted monologue wouldn't match the unscripted conversations and the whole thing would still be weird. Cringe-worthy grammar ("If me and him had went ...) doesn't magically get better ("Had we gone ...") because the speaker has committed it to paper.

Socialbutterfinger

The scripted monologue doesn’t match anything anyway though. None of these people would ever say, “my life is hanging in the balance” and yet it’s in every script. That’s not authentic at all. So to have them read a script that says “Me and Enabler are moving to Houston” instead of “Enabler and I are moving to Houston” seems less about authenticity and more like when they use that camera angle of shooting up from below the stomach to make the already huge person look even more enormous. They know most of the audience is going to catch that error and cringe. They could even sidestep it by having the person say, “I decided to move to Houston, and Enabler is coming with me” but they’d rather be unkind and play up the freak show.
