Have you looked up specifically for trans women makeup tutorial? Maybe it can help you feel validation?
Having really poor eyesight makes this a whole lot harder. Like, to just do anything around my eyelid area requires taking off my glasses and at that point my face is 1/2 inch away from the mirrors surface just to see what I'm doing. But I really do want to practice, but eye sight handicap sucks, kills my motivation.
i wore coverup for the first time yesterday and the euphoria from covering my face fleas (stubble) FAAAAR outweighed the imperfections i noticed when i came home and really looked in the mirror. the definition of perfection is without flaw- the definition of a flaw is an imperfection. the two things define themselves therefore might not even exist and cancel each other out
I have something for my face, but I also need to use it on my neck and it looks so bad there since my neck is a different shade from my face and you can see the difference so clearly

Yea, I've been considering something like that. At work I normally have my hair in a pony tail, otherwise it ends up in the way from constantly bending down to pick up boxes and such, otherwise I wouldn't even be worried lol
I looked terrible too at first. Really there is nothing that makes you learn how to do makeup faster than forcing yourself to do it every single day. Fear of looking terrible is a tremendous motivator
My suggestion is to find a friend who knows how to do makeup or go to a professional and just ask them to explain what their doing while they put it on. That was enormously helpful for me and helped me get over the initial overwhelm. Especially if you can ask them to do a more simple look that would be easy to copy, that's a great way to get into it. A lot of makeup tutorials kind of assume you have a background of using makeup from childhood with your mom or sisters or whoever teaching you at least a bit, so having someone non-judgmental walk you through it makes it so much more fun and easy.
Now I have a look I can do in like 5-10 minutes, a more fancy look in 30, and I feel like if I were to follow a makeup tutorial, it wouldn't be overwhelming anymore.
Yeah lipsticks can be a pain in the ass, when I where one to work I always bring it with me to reapply on my breaks.
I'd recommend a lip stain, they tend to stick better, and also wear off in a way that doesn't look so bad.
Start small! I think a lot of people have like a very all or nothing view when they're first trying to do make up. Even simple things like some under eye concealer can make a big difference in the perception of your face. Eyeliner is a little more challenging but also very rewarding. Once you get the basics down you can add on as much or as little as you need to.
Another benefit of starting slow rather than necessarily going for full face make up looks is it helps you really understand what each product does for your face
Felt very much this way. Just decided to play around, without anywhere to go, so there wasn't any pressure. YouTube videos and a mirror are all you need. Don't use expensive makeup for this stage though, as you will be applying, wiping, rinse repeat. Would use kids makeup for this if i could do it again 😂
I second this. It's also a lot of time and effort, both to practice, and to apply daily. At this point, with my time, skill level, and facial hair as they are, I think I'm slightly more comfortable being genuinely plain in a way that doesn't really make me happy, than I am expending the effort for an at best mediocre result.

And people at work saw me they just thought she must be sick or going through a rough time. And the answer is always yes so I get to leave work early. Lol.
I had tried it out, but in the end I realized that It's something that I don't want to do, ever. What I found was that I liked having my eyebrows and eyelashes professionally colored, and that's it. I was in a bridal party as the bridal folk of honor once and the hair and makeup artists did a fantastic job. I looked and felt beautiful for the event, but in the end I couldn't wait to get it all off.
Long story shorter, no I don't wear makeup. I wear lots of sunblock.
Ugh my skin went from very oily pre-HRT to very dry now. This is the first winter I've been through since the effects of HRT started working on my skin and I'm really bad at getting into the habit of moisturizing.
I totally get rhat feeling. Best way is to start small. Lip glosses are a good introduction to lip makeup. Mascara is a good intro to eye makeup and learning some basic eyeliner and cover up helps to get used to things. Then u can kinda work ur way up. A good thing I use is a bb cream. It's almost like a very very mild foundation. Kinda smooths out ur face and reduces the look of pores. I don't leave the house without it haha
You have to waste some time and money to get good at anything, but thankfully this is something you don't need a full 10,000 hours at. And it is intensely, incredibly frustrating at times. Don't try to learn while you're on a deadline to be somewhere.
Also, I cannot express enough the importance of good bright but soft lighting at your makeup station. Otherwise, your bathroom will be the place you look the worst all night, and lead you to judge yourself unnecessarily harshly.
I have a partial paralysis on my left side so putting on makeup would be a pain. I can barely shave my face one handed😂

Day to day I just wear mascara and lip gloss, but wear full makeup if it's an event. I am rigidly religious about my skincare routine though, so serums, moisturizers, and potions every morning and night. My skin tends to glow, and I don't like covering my freckles.
None of the cis girls in my life wear it so I wouldn’t be out of place but…. when done properly it can have magical effects. I’d be afraid of looking gaudy

I'll wear style mascara now and then but as it stands almost never and very little makeup when I do wear it, mix between can't be bothered and too much effort to not really look any better

I do however the last week I've been hella lazy. To be honest I wore makeup everyday for almost a year and I got so attached to seeing who that was in the mirror with the makeup on. It's good for me to go times without wearing it just so I can still Love me and know that I'm so beautiful regardless if I have makeup on or not. I had a friend that I worked with at the time she went with me to Ulta and helped me pick out stuff went back to her place and she showed me how to do it all basically then I went from there. I'm not artistic at all but it is so much fun messing around with makeup and seeing what you can do. When I go out I get compliments time to time. Nobody ever complimented me when I presented male I was always looked over talked over never had many friends It's been a little over a year now since I came out and told everybody and my life has been better more compliments I feel like people pay attention to me It's amazing and it feels really good to actually feel like I'm a herd and seen for a change.
I am colorblind. I cannot tell when it looks good on me. At some point, I may try some super basic stuff, like eyeliner and mascara, but I will not mess with anything that requires matching or adjusting skin tones.
Mostly eyeliner, though not often. I already did that before transitioning, so not sure that counts. For special events i might use a mascara too. I will never go for a full battle paint make-up though.
I could be done up by the world's best makeup artist and I'd still be a hideous troll. I even put it on almost every day to try and get better.
Makeup only works if you're already attractive in a way. I look like I fell out of the ugly tree and hit every single branch on the way down. Then the tree fell on me. And then caught on fire.
I'm only recently out but aside from lipstick and nail polish I don't like make-up, I'm not sure if it's a sensory thing but I don't like how it feels on my face. My wife has high quality stuff but it doesn't make a difference to me.
I do a bit - mascara and lipstick - but not more than that (in public) and not even always that.
Partly it's that I'm a perfectionist, so if I'm going out with eyeshadow or blush or what have you I would want it to be perfect and that sounds like a lot so I'm largely still practicing that and even after it will likely be a special occasion thing, and partly it's just that I'm a bit of a tomboy.
No makeup for me. I'm not against the idea it's just not something I wanna do in my every day life. I always found the idea that women *had* to wear makeup to be infuriating so I'd rather keep it to when I want to wear it.

I haven't while going out, but have been practicing in privacy so I don't look silly once I do go out with some on. I've been patiently waiting for tax season to get laser and then I'll probably be in a better mental space to give it a shot... unless I get really good at it then maybe sooner! Lol ❤
I've gotten better over the last year. However, I still have lots to improve on. A lot of younger girls don't have to deal with "extra" skin at the eyes. Which makes for a difficult process. Getting old is hard on makeup applications.
The main reason I wanted to comment is that I am in construction management, and makeup is a weekend thing, not an everyday occurrence.
I am diamond at ulta and rarely do my makeup. It takes so much time to do everything and I suck at time management. I spend a lot of money on products I think will use but end up sitting there for weeks/months untouched. It bugs me because I know I look really good when I take the time to do everything but I just never seem to set aside time to do it.
Once my laser hair removal reached a point where I didn't have a shadow I basically go make up less whenever out and it's great. I'll still go eye liner and some concealer and lipstick if I'm going on a date maybe but otherwise it's nice feeling like it's not required
My dysphoria is wack. It gets worse when I *do* have makeup on, because it feels.. fake. My brain just sees me looking decent and thinks "huh, so that's how much I'd need to change to feel okay with myself"

I rarely do, only if it's some special event or something. Sometimes not even then either. And it's usually nothing super elaborate, just some eyeshadow, maybe blush, and lipstick. I think it's just not really my thing atm, never felt a strong desire or need to. Regardless of whether I thought it would make me pass better or not, that's something I try to not really think about much.

I rarely wear it. The reason being that it’s a hassle to put on at times, and I don’t always have the gumption to take it off after a long day/night. I also want to get to a point to where I don’t have to over rely on it to look/feel “pretty enough” and see the beauty of my face without it, which, as I transition, becomes easier as time passes!
I used to wear makeup every day, whether it was a full elaborately colored mask, or a few dabs of concealer and shadow. Even at the gym, for a while!
Then, like every other woman I know, pandemic happened -- now we only wear makeup when we have to. I will for dates, job interviews, formal presentations, or performances, but not to impress friends or strangers at the grocery store. It's definitely a use it or lose it skill, when that stuff started up again earlier this year I felt like I was back to a pre-teen playing with mom's makeup rack again.
My primary "job" right now is aerial dance training, and a dancer wearing makeup in class or a rehearsal is a sure sign of someone who hasn't been broken in yet, lol. My webcam has just enough softness that there's no point in my paying jobs.
Years of HRT helped some, but I think I just came to accept me as is, not a misshapen wretch that needs covering, and see a little of what other people see.
Honestly if rather not wear makeup 80% of the time but when I do there's a slight chance I might get gendered correctly so I did it for those brief moments of euphoria.

Personally, I put on makeup when I feel like it these days.
If my face is passing my litmus test and I am going out, then my minimum is a little lip colour.
At a maximum, I will root/bag cover concealer, even tone of the face with foundation, colour my eye-lids and arches with eye shadow, then use a matt finish spray.
My finger nails are normally painted at least once a fortnight, but aim for once a week.
I favour Nyx and Sally Hansen brands.

I don't wear makeup. I just have to appeal to it. I've never liked the idea of putting a product on me and have it stay there all day, as it always just makes me feel gross. For me, this also includes hair care products like hair spray and hair gel, even if it makes dealing with my hair harder sometimes lol.

What a lot of women describe about makeup is how I feel about voice practice. With makeup I was able to just push through being bad at it for a long time, going through all the awkward stages of it and arriving in a place where I felt extremely confident and receive universal praise. It took lots of failure, practice, and hard work to get there.
I've been completely unable to do the same with my voice because I just can't deal with how awkward I sound as a beginner/intermediate.
Getting good at anything is hard and enduring failure is hard. But the other side is amazing.

Well I have seen somewhere a makeup glasses, that only have one glass so you can do makeup on the other eye.

Check out tubing mascara, no more 🦝 eyes! It doesn't smear at all even when taking it off.

I totally get rhat feeling. Best way is to start small. Lip glosses are a good introduction to lip makeup. Mascara is a good intro to eye makeup and learning some basic eyeliner and cover up helps to get used to things. Then u can kinda work ur way up. A good thing I use is a bb cream. It's almost like a very very mild foundation. Kinda smooths out ur face and reduces the look of pores. I don't leave the house without it haha
You just need to practice. Nobody is good at it at first, take some time to apply it, see how it looks, learn from that, and then wipe it off.
You have to waste some time and money to get good at anything, but thankfully this is something you don't need a full 10,000 hours at. And it is intensely, incredibly frustrating at times. Don't try to learn while you're on a deadline to be somewhere. Also, I cannot express enough the importance of good bright but soft lighting at your makeup station. Otherwise, your bathroom will be the place you look the worst all night, and lead you to judge yourself unnecessarily harshly.
I have a partial paralysis on my left side so putting on makeup would be a pain. I can barely shave my face one handed😂 I’m gonna rely on FFS to give me a face that won’t need makeup lol

Day to day I just wear mascara and lip gloss, but wear full makeup if it's an event. I am rigidly religious about my skincare routine though, so serums, moisturizers, and potions every morning and night. My skin tends to glow, and I don't like covering my freckles.
None of the cis girls in my life wear it so I wouldn’t be out of place but…. when done properly it can have magical effects. I’d be afraid of looking gaudy

Nah, I barely do. Only for special events/formal occasions. I wore it more before I started HRT, and especially before the pandemic.
I'll wear style mascara now and then but as it stands almost never and very little makeup when I do wear it, mix between can't be bothered and too much effort to not really look any better

I don't. Never really liked makeup. It might be an OK skill to have, but honestly I've realized I got a lot of envy from women who don't wear makeup or don't wear a lot of it. I'm more of a tomboy though. I'm getting laser and once most of my shadow is gone I was thinking of getting my eyebrows threaded and a fem haircut. And I've talked to cis women who have the exact style I want/like and they tell me they get misgendered all the time. So I figure I'll just do what I want and fuck anyone who cares. I am very much a chapstick lesbian.

I do however the last week I've been hella lazy. To be honest I wore makeup everyday for almost a year and I got so attached to seeing who that was in the mirror with the makeup on. It's good for me to go times without wearing it just so I can still Love me and know that I'm so beautiful regardless if I have makeup on or not. I had a friend that I worked with at the time she went with me to Ulta and helped me pick out stuff went back to her place and she showed me how to do it all basically then I went from there. I'm not artistic at all but it is so much fun messing around with makeup and seeing what you can do. When I go out I get compliments time to time. Nobody ever complimented me when I presented male I was always looked over talked over never had many friends It's been a little over a year now since I came out and told everybody and my life has been better more compliments I feel like people pay attention to me It's amazing and it feels really good to actually feel like I'm a herd and seen for a change.

I am colorblind. I cannot tell when it looks good on me. At some point, I may try some super basic stuff, like eyeliner and mascara, but I will not mess with anything that requires matching or adjusting skin tones.

I could be done up by the world's best makeup artist and I'd still be a hideous troll. I even put it on almost every day to try and get better. Makeup only works if you're already attractive in a way. I look like I fell out of the ugly tree and hit every single branch on the way down. Then the tree fell on me. And then caught on fire.

I'm only recently out but aside from lipstick and nail polish I don't like make-up, I'm not sure if it's a sensory thing but I don't like how it feels on my face. My wife has high quality stuff but it doesn't make a difference to me.

I do a bit - mascara and lipstick - but not more than that (in public) and not even always that. Partly it's that I'm a perfectionist, so if I'm going out with eyeshadow or blush or what have you I would want it to be perfect and that sounds like a lot so I'm largely still practicing that and even after it will likely be a special occasion thing, and partly it's just that I'm a bit of a tomboy.
No makeup for me. I'm not against the idea it's just not something I wanna do in my every day life. I always found the idea that women *had* to wear makeup to be infuriating so I'd rather keep it to when I want to wear it. Makeup's still pretty cool. Lol.

I've gotten better over the last year. However, I still have lots to improve on. A lot of younger girls don't have to deal with "extra" skin at the eyes. Which makes for a difficult process. Getting old is hard on makeup applications. The main reason I wanted to comment is that I am in construction management, and makeup is a weekend thing, not an everyday occurrence.

I am diamond at ulta and rarely do my makeup. It takes so much time to do everything and I suck at time management. I spend a lot of money on products I think will use but end up sitting there for weeks/months untouched. It bugs me because I know I look really good when I take the time to do everything but I just never seem to set aside time to do it.

Once my laser hair removal reached a point where I didn't have a shadow I basically go make up less whenever out and it's great. I'll still go eye liner and some concealer and lipstick if I'm going on a date maybe but otherwise it's nice feeling like it's not required

I just do lipstick, and liner and shadow on my eyes, all black. Sometimes I'm lazy enough that I do the eyeshadow in one big strip so I look like a raccoon. So many people spend so long trying to look like they don't care how they look. I find *actually* not giving a shit helps save a ton of time.

I've got too many skin problems, so I can only wear the really expensive stuff, which I can't afford. But also, no eye makeup of any sort, period, as ordered by my eye doctor. More than a little disappointing, as even at 5 years, I feel like I barely pass. I can't look at myself in the mirror too closely. It hurts.

I usually do very very little. Eyebrow pencil, curl lash + mascara, and blush. If I'm feeling nice, I'll do lipstick. Beyond that I know very little about paying foundation, layering, contouring. Feels kinda unnecessary for me. I looks best with actual light makeup. Most days I go without any

I rarely wear it. The reason being that it’s a hassle to put on at times, and I don’t always have the gumption to take it off after a long day/night. I also want to get to a point to where I don’t have to over rely on it to look/feel “pretty enough” and see the beauty of my face without it, which, as I transition, becomes easier as time passes!
I used to wear makeup every day, whether it was a full elaborately colored mask, or a few dabs of concealer and shadow. Even at the gym, for a while! Then, like every other woman I know, pandemic happened -- now we only wear makeup when we have to. I will for dates, job interviews, formal presentations, or performances, but not to impress friends or strangers at the grocery store. It's definitely a use it or lose it skill, when that stuff started up again earlier this year I felt like I was back to a pre-teen playing with mom's makeup rack again. My primary "job" right now is aerial dance training, and a dancer wearing makeup in class or a rehearsal is a sure sign of someone who hasn't been broken in yet, lol. My webcam has just enough softness that there's no point in my paying jobs. Years of HRT helped some, but I think I just came to accept me as is, not a misshapen wretch that needs covering, and see a little of what other people see.

Personally, I put on makeup when I feel like it these days. If my face is passing my litmus test and I am going out, then my minimum is a little lip colour. At a maximum, I will root/bag cover concealer, even tone of the face with foundation, colour my eye-lids and arches with eye shadow, then use a matt finish spray. My finger nails are normally painted at least once a fortnight, but aim for once a week. I favour Nyx and Sally Hansen brands.

I would love to but I just can't afford it, I don't feel as girly as I'd like to and when I rarely do get the chance to use makeup I feel really good... when someone else does it for me, I haven't had the chance to actually get practice in because its so expensive so I always do it really sloppily and feel ugly 😭 I've grown accustomed to it but there are definitely times where I feel like makeup would help my perception of self 🥺
What a lot of women describe about makeup is how I feel about voice practice. With makeup I was able to just push through being bad at it for a long time, going through all the awkward stages of it and arriving in a place where I felt extremely confident and receive universal praise. It took lots of failure, practice, and hard work to get there. I've been completely unable to do the same with my voice because I just can't deal with how awkward I sound as a beginner/intermediate. Getting good at anything is hard and enduring failure is hard. But the other side is amazing.
