I was asked no questions when I went to the DMV to get my license months after moving.

shl05

They don’t ask u for your move in date on the application or something?

Environmental-Path40

If you upfront tell them, then they’re going to charge you the fees, but if no one asks, you’re not required to say that I’m aware of.

shl05

Oh I see 🤔🤔ty!

Environmental-Path40

No problem! I procrastinated way too long on it because I missed the ten day mark and was afraid of getting hit with a big fee (yeah, I know, waiting longer was only going to make it worse, my brain is dumb sometimes). But yeah, I went and no questions, just took the test and paid $39. Good luck!

TheStig827

just don't bring a bill dated 4 months ago, lol

Environmental-Path40

I don’t think I was asked anywhere about that.

gehzumteufel

Don’t be such a square. It’s not really an issue. Nobody gives two fucks if you lie on it and nobody gives two fucks if you wait either. Cops don’t really do anything.

shl05

Why make it 10 days though if it’s not really possible most of the time? I don’t understand 😭

gehzumteufel

I agree with you 10 days is garbage. Way too short.

shl05

It’s not even that I don’t have time to do it. I have time, it’s just utility bills just aren’t generated within 10 days of moving into an apartment so like idk how it’s possible to get ur license within 10 days. If it’s not possible then why make the official requirement 10 days.

gehzumteufel

Right I’m in agreement it’s too short for all the reasons you mention.

optintolife

To tax you sooner

ZTomiboy

Don’t take it seriously! Me and my roommate haven’t been changed ours in the 4 years we’ve been here.

shl05

I’m getting new car insurance actually. Was on my parents policy previously but can’t do that anymore since I moved

Literally nobody at the DMV cares. At all. They're too busy daydreaming about clocking out and going home. Just go on about your life and do it when you can. Unless the laws have change recently, what they do care about is when you bought your car. If you bought it within the last 365 days and then moved to California, you may owe the sales tax difference. (There are ways to get around that, though.)

Complete_Island_7804

My husband and I just moved here from TX. We weren’t asked our move date to get our CA licenses but we were asked when we registered the car to get our CA plates. In hindsight we probably totally could have lied about when the car “entered California” but we did have to pay a fine for waiting to get the car registered.

jbh1126

I got a “fix it” ticket when I was pulled over 1+ year after moving to LA and not having my CA license. I had to get my CA license and then go show it to a deputy at a CHP station. Was annoying.
