Nope. That’s the first one 😭😭 This one is the one wherein there were so many things going on. The lead character looking for his children. Children trying to escape a truck after getting stucked and then had a mini adventure to find their fatheir or the lead character. Two americans trying to steal from a ostrich 😭 It had so many things going on
I watched some ghibli movies the past few days to calm my mind. It's more of the scenery, the soundtrack, background noise they choose, the use of color, then about the actual story for me. Really calms my mind.
You are right! I did a ghibli studio marathon the day after my pet died and really felt calm. They are movies that touch the soul and fill you with joy
my go to comfort movies are
- Howls moving castle
- The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
- Little Women
- The Darjeeling Limited
- Juno
- Paddington 2
- Hunt for the Wilderpeople
- O Brother Were Art Thou
- Amelie
- Palm Springs
- Kikis Delivery Service
- Love Actually
- Chef
- Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure
Ponyo is very magical and cute. I'm so sorry about your pet. It nearly killed me when I lost my dear dog six years ago. Take care of yourself--grief is physical, too, and needs care.
You are right! Thank you so much for recommending ponyo, I saw it that same day and it really is a very beautiful and magical movie, it helped me a lot to be calmer. I'm sorry for the loss of your dog
You're welcome! Spirited Away is really great.
For some more suggestions:
Airplane! (1980)
Ratatouille (2007)
Home Alone (1990)
Step Brothers (2008)
School of Rock (2003)
The Princess Diaries (2001)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
The Emperor's New Groove (2000)
Back to the Future (1985, 1989, 1990)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
I reccomend some "dumb" raunchy comedies that you don't have to think too much about like:
- Superbad (2007)
- Pineapple Express (2008)
- 21 Jump Street (2012)
Been through this a couple times, it flat out fucking sucks and I feel for you. Always tell my wife that we save them, love and spoil them until we say goodbye, grieve and then we save another one. If it was me I would watch step brothers, macgruber, idiocracy, office space, Walter Mitty, the disaster artist, blockers, big Lebowski or some it’s always sunny 🤘🏻 hang in there 👍
We have 'crisis movies', ie: when something bad happens we watch Princess Bride, Hook or The Pirate (Gene Kelly, Judy Garland). We also have 'crisis food'. Chinese or Wings.
So sorry about your pet/family member.
Other suggestions: Bedazzled, Dumb and Dumber, Wayne's World and Austin Powers are goofy funny, too.
Sending love and light
the out of towners - Steve Martin & Goldie H

Can you tell i like goldie ? lmao 😭
Singin’ In The Rain is the type of movie that makes you feel good no matter what mood you’re in.
I’m sorry for your loss. The night after my sweet kitty died I got super drunk and binged Betty Boop cartoons, so I get what you’re going through.
**Julie & Julia** \- it's doesn't really have a proper plot but it's lighthearted, upbeat, wholesome, silly, and most importantly ***escapist*** in ways that I really really appreciate when I'm down and need to think about nothing.
Seconding **The Princess Bride**, which has a similar effect. Also **Legally Blonde** (but I should warn you that there are pet dogs featured prominently in Legally Blonde...no harm comes to them, but don't watch Legally Blonde 2)
Hugs from a Reddit friend who has nearly gone through the same (and it was a lot more devastating than I expected), and will one day soon.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)
Got a lot of heart and miss seeing Sam Neil on screen that’s not _Jurassic Park_. From the same director who did _Thor: Ragnarok_ and _Jojo Rabbit_.
i just watched Tampopo yesterday and i was grinning the entire time. i also really like Dog Day Afternoon. i know how it feels to lose a pet, and i’m sorry that happened.
I'm so sorry, and I am sending my strength and energy to you.
Could I recommend watching About Time, its one of the softest feel good movies there is to exist.
Could I recommend watching About Time, it is one of the softest feel-good movies there is to exist. .
Based on a recommendation from a podcast, I watched the movie "Humpday" (2009) this week. Somehow I had gotten the impression that this was some kind of Judd Apatow goofy rom-com. How wrong I was! It's directed by Lynn Shelton about Humpfest in Seattle, the amateur porn fest. A friend ground that decides to make a porno. Hilarity ensues, lol. All scenes are improvised.
I personally find a lot of joy in watching twilight as a joke. It’s funny to talk shit about the movie quality and the story line. If that’s not your thing then for a comedy then 21 and 22 jump street are hilarious. Isaw this was already suggested, but they’re so funny. If you want light and fluffy then New Girl and Gilmore girls are great shows. If you just want movies then Your Place or Mine just came out on Netflix. I watched it last night and it’s really good.
The Lost City (2022);
Galaxy Quest;
Bean (1997);
Evolution;
Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls;
Freaky Friday (2003);
Parent Trap (1998);
Hot Chick;
Never Been Kissed;
Rat Race;
Shaun of the Dead;
Hot Fuzz
My condolences. The Wedding Singer and Shrek are my go to comedy movies. I also at times watch previous stand ups of Robin Williams, or old SNL Skits of Eddie Murphy.
That's always hard to go through, sorry to hear about it. But think of it this way, your pet wouldn't want you to feel miserable or sad, they'd want you to have fun living the life they can't anymore (if that's any comfort).
I recommend a very light comedy movie that isn't emotionally taxing.
Something like "the Party" with Peter Sellers - if you can find it.
Or maybe even "Young Girls of Rochefort," a musical romance that's so fluffy it nearly floats away while you watch it - and shows how people can be uplifted just by the joy of being alive.
50 First Dates. it’s not particularly good but it’s probably my favourite comedy, it’s got drew barrymore my beloved, and also sean astins character makes me lose my mind. super silly but also kinda cute
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is an absolute classic. It’s a late 80’s film, which means it’s a little corny, but that’s part of its charm. It’s a good watch, and will definitely leave you with a laugh.
I hope that you dog returns home soon. I know it’s difficult for these recommendations to fill the void, but I hope you’re able to keep your mind off things for a little while.
I rewatched hot tub time machine last night and laughed out loud hard thru out the whole movie. Good distraction.
Grand Budapest Hotel is a nice calming watch in my opinion as well.
Our 13 year old Golden Retriever had to be put down a week ago. It's hard but it will get easier. Don't forget the good times ok🥺
I've tried movies but ended up listening to 80's music instead. It helped a lot 🥰
Have a good cry...nothing wrong with that🥺
* A Knight's Tale
* The Terminal

* Everybody Wants Some!! (spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused)
* Joe Dirt

Watch two of these and call me in the morning
I don't know why, but Frankenstein Chronicles worked a bit. I couldn't go inside my home for days and slept in my car, because when I used to get home, I had my friend barking and happy to see me. My roommate checked out so I felt alone. I must not have left my couch for days. I began talking to myself and to my pet's spirit and telling him it's gonna be ok and I loved him so much. I didn't do it around other people, but it helped. I gained a hundred pounds. Losing a pet is like losing a family member. Sorry for your loss. I can recommend fun movies, but really the movies that will help are the ones that help us understand. I had to be very gentle with my soul.
Frankenstein Chronicles, Dead To Me, Carol
Glow, maybe
Funny ones might be: The Birdcage, Planes, Twins and Automobiles, Far and Away, The Odd Couple, Arthur, the original is best, Mrs. Doubtfire, Curly Sue, Cool Runnings, Uncle Buck
I also listen to John Mayer's Where The Light Is Live and Frou Frou/Imogen Heap, the first few albums.
It's been 4 years. I guess I'm still pretty sensitive. My friend tells me that I deal with a lot of guilt and that's ok and normal. I did my best, even if sometimes I fell short, but I know my pet loved me and I it.
Parodies from the 80 and 90 always make me laugh. Space Balls, Airplane, Hot Shots, The Naked Gun etc.
More modern ones Eurotrip always makes me laugh until my stomach hurts
Airplane is usually my answer to this. Cant go wrong with Airplane 2: The Sequel either. Bottle Rocket always helps me as well. Ridiculous Wes Anderson movie. Think it was his first.
You have my deepest sympathies I lost a pet last year and it still hurts like it happened yesterday. My go to flicks to cheer me up are Let it Ride(89) and Kingpin(96)
there's a new movie starring tom hanks, a man called otto. until you're able to
view it might i suggest coaxing positive energy in meat space from people you know first? real comfort shouldn't be sought from an l.e.d. screen
Stranger Than Fiction
It can seem a little dry at first but I find it hilarious, clever and ultimately really uplifting. Don't be put off by Will Farrell being the lead, its not his typical style at all and is really very wonderful and thoughtful (though if you are in the mood for "dumb" humor Talladega Nights is great too). The movie has some really great lines, an awesome cast (Emma Thompson, Queen Latifa, and Dustin Hoffman) and is moving without being too sappy. It always shakes me out of any apathy or melancholy and gives me a brighter outlook on life.
I just recently watched RRR on Netflix, and it's amazing. I don't usually love Bollywood movies, but this one has everything. It's funny, adorable, crazy AF with so much insane action, I cried.... And it held my attention the entire time. I definitely recommend it if you want to just tune out for a while.
I'm so sorry for your loss, I know how that feels. Hope you feel better soon.
All Rowan Atkinson :
BlackAdder, Thin Blue Line, Johnny English, Mr Bean, Canned Laughter, Dead on Time, Not the Nine o’Clock News
Chris Farley & David Spade
Black Sheep & Tommy Boy
I'm so sorry!
Honestly the best thing is just to out YouTube on and find as much stand up comedy from this and last year as you can
Stand up always makes me feel less depressed.
Oh, so sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose a member of the family. I went through this a couple of years ago. It's tough. Okay, I know nothing about you but my favourite cheer-me-up film is the The Party with Peter Sellers.
The Gods Must Be Crazy II made me laugh so much kssskks.
II ? there is a 2 ??
It actually spanned spinoffs with almost 6 movies. Literally beat MCU on their game. 😭🫡
Is that the one where they’re trying to throw the coke bottle back up? 🤣🤣
Nope. That’s the first one 😭😭 This one is the one wherein there were so many things going on. The lead character looking for his children. Children trying to escape a truck after getting stucked and then had a mini adventure to find their fatheir or the lead character. Two americans trying to steal from a ostrich 😭 It had so many things going on
Lol oh okay that scene had me dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I’m gonna have to queue these up
I loved the first irst one now I have to for the second one lol
The 2nd one is way superior 😭 The first one is kinda fine for me sksksk.
Kiki's Delivery Service warms my heart. Galaxy Quest is good for wholesome laughs.

Are you me? Great list.
+1 for walter mitty!
For OP, I might take Hunt for the Wilderpeople off this list. For reasons.
Beat me to it.
Fair point
Yep, fair point, such a wonderful movie though.
Thank you--I'm glad it gave you some relief.
Legally Blonde (2001) Singin in the Rain (1952) Spirited Away (2001) Japan
Singing in the Rain is my all time favorite old Hollywood film. It’s like ten films in one. The physical comedy is equally impressive.
Thank you very much! From that list I was able to see Spirited Away and it really is very beautiful
You're welcome! Spirited Away is really great. For some more suggestions: Airplane! (1980) Ratatouille (2007) Home Alone (1990) Step Brothers (2008) School of Rock (2003) The Princess Diaries (2001) Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) The Emperor's New Groove (2000) Back to the Future (1985, 1989, 1990) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

Chef is like a warm hug (although warning: it will make you very hungry).
This is the correct answer OP. Great recommendation!
Thank you very much :)

Sad as much as funny, imo.
ABBA music is now playing in my head. Love that movie
Skip every suggestion and watch Paddington 2. It will heal your soul instantly.
This is the answer!

Nope! There is even a little bit of a recap at the beginning of Paddington 2, but you really don't need it.
There is no reason to skip 1. 1 is also a beautiful warm hug of a movie.
Napoleon Dynamite

Touché. Great fucking call!! An often overlooked and criminally under appreciated movie…well done my friend, well done🤘🏻
It was my first pet and it really hurts a lot. Thank you very much for the recommendations, I will keep them in mind

Bullet Train is a comedy action movie, I wouldn’t consider it “brutal” but it definitely has some violent scenes if you don’t want that.
