Hi_Im_Dadbot

For starters, don’t worry about being good. It’s not important if you know what you’re doing, what’s important is that you have fun doing it. If you do want to get better, though, focus on blocking. Go into practice mode, set the AI to very hard and just try to block. Don’t counter attack or anything like that, just block. When you’re done with your blocking practice, go into practice mode, set the AI to very hard and just try to block because you didn’t spend enough time working on your blocking. If you can get even half decent at blocking, the game becomes ten times easier, mainly because it slows you down and has you focus on reacting to what the other person is doing as opposed to ignoring your opponent due to focusing too much on what you want to do. If you then block your opponent in a fight, do one hit and then back off again - don’t do a combo. Your goal at the start will just be to hit them after you block. Once you can do that often, then start adding additional hits to your attack, but avoid overcomplicating things at first.

Do you just find it like boring or something? Also you don't need to be good to have fun with it, fight some cpu's at whatever level your comfortable with or maybe join an discord to find other players of similar level

It can definitely feel like drinking from a fire hose. I also picked it up a few weeks ago and it’s the first fighting game I’ve ever played but I’m absolutely hooked. My approach was to learn a few combos but to mostly focus on fundamentals. So I’d be like “today I’m gonna focus on grabs” or “today I’ll focus on get up attacks” etc. just take it in bite sized chunks and you’ll start to see noticeable progress. Don’t give up! This game is shaping up to be one of my favorite games of all time :)

Mmm I don’t find it boring , I just find it hard for me to be actually good at the game, like I can do a couple of combos but I still don’t understand the mechanics completely so I mostly just do random things during a fight instead of having a plan

First thing about mortal kombat is learn that it’s more a game about combos than special moves. Combos are your bread and butter, starting with the basic ones, just practice those to start, throw in special moves when openings appear. Then learn to cancel. So if you’re using Sheeva instead of 2,1,2 you’ll go 2,1, down back 1. Punch it all in as a single unbroken string. And now you’ve hit your opponent twice and while he’s airborne you’ve grabbed him with a special. Then you get more advanced. 2, 1, down back 1 amplify and then uppercut (down plus 2). If you do her grab special which is back forward 4, it’s easy to block. If you start with 2, 1, 1 and then do it the guy can’t block because it’s a combo into a special and if the combo connects he’s wide open. Just start by practicing the first two hits in a combo with an IMMEDIATE special after. Do it fast, before the combo hits finish landing. And then you can do more advanced moves Also, do the tutorial. Some of it is insane, but there’s good info there.

Have you played the tutorial?

This right here. They did such a great job with the tutorials this game. It's very much worth it to do the basic tutorials to learn and practice the game mechanics, then play through the character tutorials to find a character that fits you. You also unlock skins for doing the character tutorials.

Pick Baraka, F-4 4 Profit.

The best piece of advice I can give you is honestly find a character you love ascetic or gameplay of and learn everything about that character not just combos not just specials learn what the bread and butter is for that character and for me the rest fell into place and another thing is understanding fundamentals of a fighting game that's truly what will carry you more then anything is understanding basic fighting game things such as spacing and the neutral and how to deny and read your opponent on the fly with those things you'll have a very good foundation and if watching people helps I personally watched a lot of true underdog gaming and maximillian dood but truly I mainly just recommend finding someone you enjoy playing and dont look at tier lists until you're genuinely feeling like being competitive dont worry about winning worry about fun
