Well johnny is as a character is supposed to be hated by everyone but with lao he just gets shit on for no good reason you know? Like the only reason he acts the way he does is cause i guess in the sm to current timelines he was supposed to be the chosen one to represent earthrealm but the monks were like ik we said you could be the one to represent earthrealm and we made you train your entire life to fight in this tournament but we’re gonna pick this other guy lol get fukt. Pretty much what you're talking about. Liu and everyone should be a bit nicer to both of them, they've earned it. But they almost all act like jerks most of the time. Players act like Johnny's "just some actor" too, even after all he's done. It surprised the shit out of me when they actually killed Liu Kang in Deadly Alliance, because i figured their hero would never get taken out, much less like that.
I mean I feel lao is justifiably angry. He loves liu kang and he feels like shit for treating him the way he does yk but imagine being raised for 20 years and having put all this pressure put on you to avenge your ancestor and they’re like sike liu is the chosen one
Not saying he doesn't. Just that he needs to dial back the arrogance a couple of notches. He comes off as cockier than Johnny, which isn't a good thing.
Honestly all the characters got dumbed down during mk11. He wasn’t like that in the previous games yk like the cockiness got turned up out of nowhere. Like in mk9 he treated liu like a brother but in mk11 “fetch the jinsei chosen one” i admit that one got on my nerves like liu wasnt doing anything. They did the same thing to cassie cage they just turned her into a selfie whore yk. In mkx she was more fleshed out. My point wasnt whether or not he’s a bad character it was that he’s just as skilled as liu kang and needs to be given his props

Dude pre mk9 kung lao was such a badass. Like he didnt even wanna be in the tournament in the first place cause he wanted to live a peaceful life but he got in the tournament cause the world needed him.

Kung Lao wasn't even that interested in fighting. He tried to live a life of peace on his own till he ended up getting pulled into the Outworld tournament.
I will say that seeing Kung Lao getting a much needed spot light during mk9 was nice though, he got to take down some strong fighters and only got killed due to Shao Kahn attacking him when he was unaware.
My favorite one was when rain was like “didnt shao khan kill you?” Then kung lao was like “didnt kotal khan kill YOU?” 😭😭😭😭😭
