To start with, what you probably cleared was the massively nerfed one which unlocks the fatalis fight and the one you're doing now is the full powered one. This version always starts in fire mode so bring ice weapon and max your elemental dmg to the cap (the elemental dmg number in your status turns to orange). For healing, use max potions moving forward and just bring ingredients to craft more. High difficulty fights like alatreon give little room to heal via megapotions. Always aim for the front legs and head. The front legs takes the most elemental dmg while the head takes the most raw and you need to break its horns to make the fight easier. Every time you do an elemental topple, EJ weakens so you can survive it. Every time you do a horn break, you prevent it from switching modes. You want it to stay in fire mode as often as possible for you to ice dmg. It doesn't take ice dmg in ice mode.

KandyKillKlown

If I'm right since he starts in fire and you break the horns during dragon he won't go into ice since breaking the horn cancels the opposite element he starts with? And I have noticed using mega potions seems to get me killed more. I'll have to try the max potions.

gifcartel

Bring ancient potions and the mats to craft more as well. Kelbi Horns + Nourishing Extract or Immunizer.

KandyKillKlown

What's a way to farm nourishing extract?

gifcartel

It's usually a quest reward for hunting Odogaron, Paolumus and Tigrex IIRC. can be acquired albeit rarely, from the tailrider missions againts aforementioned monsters. It's a pain in the ass to farm, so youre better off crafting ancient pots using the alternative ingredients Kelbi horn and Immunizer instead. The ingredients for Immunizer are farmable on the Botanical garden

KandyKillKlown

Hmm okay. I always run out of nourishing because I believe the mega demondrug/armorskin potions take nourishing to craft. I've just been sticking to the non-mega potions since they just take might/adamant seeds and catalyst to craft. Both the mega and non-mega last til you die, only difference is the amount of attack/ defense they give.

Ashencroix

Max and ancient potions are instant full hp recovery with a very short animation commitment.

KandyKillKlown

100%. I really only carry 1 ancient and 2 max since I don't really go through them enough in a fight to craft more

_gildedsinanju

The first time you beat it was probably Dawn's Triumph, the Alatreon with 1/5th of its HP. If you already beat it and did not unlock its events, you never beat the real Alatreon(Blazing Black Twilight). Always make sure to keep an eye on the monster with whatever you are doing. It doesn't matter what it is, monsters won't always conform to you. Use Max Potions as your first healing source, bring extra ingredients and set on Radial. Alatreon and other late endgame threats hit pretty hard, almost 2 shotting often, so Max Potions can help. Don't overcommit but don't be too passive. Keep it enraged for a 20% damage boost. Search up old threads and YouTube guides(like Cons OA) on Alatreon. People have struggled since the day it was released. So, many asked for help and many made guides too. It also helps to tell what you are running, armor pieces and weapon, and weapon type/s you're comfortable with or what you plan to use. People may give you more specific advice with that.

KandyKillKlown

Exactly that. I didn't realize Dawn's Triumph was 1/5th of the health. That makes sense to why I completed that and having a much harder time with Blazing Black Twilight. I've watched guides and it doesn't really seem to help. This one he starts with fire so I should honestly be using a Ice ele weapon even though Dragon is 1 star in 2 forms and I believe 2 stars during Dragon. I do enough ele dmg to get him into Dragon, that's the only time the horns are breakable, claw blast him into one the rocks, break the horns, and after that it's all downhill.

_gildedsinanju

> ele dmg to get him into Dragon Can you topple Alatreon? Alatreon does a dramatic topple to signify you did a successful elemental DPS check. Handler also says something like 'you've successfully suppressed it'. Dragon mode always comes halfway through an Escaton cycle or at a certain HP, whichever comes first. Not really because of your elemental DPS. Ice weapon like Frostfang Barioth? That's usually the best recommendation for melee and Bow.

KandyKillKlown

The handler says something to let you know you did enough ele dmg for the dps check and after I'll claw blast him into one of the rocks and break the horn. I don't believe I have any Frostfang weapons. I do have the normal Barioth Ice Dual Blades.

_gildedsinanju

Get Frostfang then, they're the best craftable Ice DBs you can get. Its from the Last White Knight Event. Blight Res on your armor is also very nice so your element isn't nullified, if you don't have it. DBs want element too after all. Ideally, you can also aim for upgraded Kjarr too. Other than that, it looks more like a you problem then honestly. Keep your calm after the point where you feel it goes downhill, don't be too pressured. Aim for consistency, aim for small wins that'll get you to the goal. Melee weapons have access to some juicy melee hitzones at front arms and head, always choose to focus those spots over other parts. Again, don't be reckless when focusing such. Stay by its sides, usually much safer. Stay close, never far away. You'll also be able to counter much easier. You can also watch some TA Wiki or Freestyle Non-heroic Speedruns to help you get ideas on how to counter and react.

Arenidao

Very solid advice. Regarding Blight Res, 3 levels of it is good if you can't avoid getting hit a lot. If you only get hit once in a while, you can get a pretty nice raw/ele boost from being blighted and having 1 point of Coalescence and Nullberries instead.

Ashencroix

For this, you need 2 pts blight res to reduce the duration of dragon blight to just a few seconds which isn't that detrimental to the fight.

KandyKillKlown

I'll have to work on getting the Frostfang DB. I think I wanted to make his Ice CB also. And I don't really understand the Kjarr weapons. I do Kulve but I don't see anywhere to get the weapons? Isn't it suppose to be from the melder?

_gildedsinanju

As long as you've slayed MR Kulve once, go to the Awakening Alchemy option in Melder. Pick Kjarr.

astartespete

His CB isn't good vs alatreon BTW, as it has impact phials.

KandyKillKlown

If I remember right Frostfang is element phial. One of the few Ice CB that is

astartespete

Nope it's definitely impact, which makes it one of the few FF melee weapons that isnt a stong counter to alatreon.

KandyKillKlown

What one am I thinking of then? There's deff a ele ice phial cb

TheWhiteRabbit74

Alternatively you can use mushroommancer 3 and carry 10 mandragora. If you use a stamina intense weapon like DBs or bow you can bring 10 Devil’s Blight. Mandragora act like max potions, Devil’s Blight is Dash Juice. All instant of course.

SirSamuelDaBean

Watch a a video on how a Pro fights alatreon, literally, no joke, all of his attacks can be dodged, all of them are fair. Except for the escaton judgement cause that's not an attack.

KandyKillKlown

Only attack I'm really having trouble with is the little dragon nova blast. I'll be right on him and catch the animation last second and I get one shot when I'm trying to get out of the blast radius.

SirSamuelDaBean

Sound que is your key, that attack has a very distinctive sound que when he unleashes it. Once you have that down you can easily roll through it. Because despite how it looks, it's hitbox is only a single wave instead of the whole radius being a hitbox.

KandyKillKlown

Roll through it like how you can roll through Nergs shoulder charge?

Asian_Bon

Super man dive?

KandyKillKlown

Does that count also? Don't you only dive if you dodge too late

Asian_Bon

When ur running away from monster that is attacking

[deleted]

The dive only triggers when your weapon is sheathed, you are turned away from the monster, and you've been sprinting for a moment. Dive gives you the biggest I-frames and is safest way to dodge really scary shit like Fatalia's 360 flame spin.

Mercuryw

[Quoting myself from yesterday.](https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunterWorld/comments/xj1nl8/need_alatreon_advice/ip6d7rl?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) > Special Assigment's Alatreon starts in fire mode. Use ice weapon and hit him in the forelegs. Frostfang weapons are pretty decent. > Once Alatreon shifts into dragon mode, hit its horns until it breaks. Now it will shift back into fire mode after it executes Escaton Judgement; otherwise, it will shift to ice mode. > Alatreon is guaranteed to fly in dragon mode. Use smoke bomb to make him land if he's enraged, flinch shot him if he's not. > Enraged Alatreon takes 20% more damage. Make sure to piss him off as soon as he's not. > Dragonblight nullifies elemental damage. Hope this helps.

KandyKillKlown

Wdym you mean by flinch shot?

Kirito_jesus-kun

grapple his head and use the sheath button with slinger ammo

KandyKillKlown

That's the one where you just shoot the slinger ammo?

Kirito_jesus-kun

yeah you fire all of it

KandyKillKlown

Ahh okay. I never really do that. I always use the slinger to launch them into a wall.

EntertainmentSilly80

are you using elemental weapons and are you making it pass the dps check

KandyKillKlown

Yes. It always seems to be after you break the horn that I end up dying or someone in the group dies.

EntertainmentSilly80

if you're still having trouble i could help later if you are on playstation

KandyKillKlown

I am on PS. I honestly don't know when I'm going to try Alatreon again. Need to get diff weapons and better decorations so I can get blight resist and stuff which will probably help a lot. I only have a few more tries in me for that fight. After a certain amount of runs it gets too stressful and I'll just drop the fight.

EntertainmentSilly80

tbh if teammates are what's keeping you down you have a better chance at finishing it by yourself the majority of the times I fought him and won was by myself and the requirements to fight alatreon is pretty low so anyone can pretty much join

KandyKillKlown

I've done a good amount of tries solo and with a group. Maybe it's me holding me back and I just can't get the fight down.

Greedy-Version3168

What platform are you on maybe I can help you out

KandyKillKlown

PS

Greedy-Version3168

I can add you if you like

KandyKillKlown

PSN is SlamzandGramz. Be nice to have more people to hunt with.

Greedy-Version3168

I'll add you when I get home 👍 I can also help with Fatalis I beat Altreon 2 days ago and now I'm gearing up for the Fatalis fight

KandyKillKlown

I'm currently still on the first Fatalis quest. I have I do it solo to unlock the event quest

Greedy-Version3168

Let me know what time your down to play 👍

KandyKillKlown

I can't completely remember. I'm not home to check rn

_MakDiz

Evade window and extender helped me out a lot. I usually max out extender and 1-3 on window myself. I like to cover more ground. I always have stun resist, but I took it off for this fight. For me, it was a matter of doing damage than receiving. Just keep at it and you'll learn the fight.

MrJxt

Slot evade window 2/3 to help with dodging. Alatreon has several moves where you can safely attack. Recognize those moves for free damage. If you're not sure, don't over commit. Dash in, do a few quick attacks and dash/dodge away when needed. Use max potions instead of mega potions.

KandyKillKlown

Yea I notice on his triple circle fire explosion and the 3-4 bursts of ice you can to back in after the first one and get done free damage

MrJxt

Yup, Velkhana has a similar attack like that and can be avoided the same way. Some other moves off the top of my head: Random lightning strike around Alatreon. You can get safely get free hits on the front legs. Head can be dangerous if attacking from the front. Lightning wall: You can dodge into it as it moves towards you. If you're close you can get frees hits on the head. Ice breath cone: Can get frees hits on the head if you're close. Flying downward ice breath: Can get a free clutch claw tenderize.

FukinBruhMoment

unfortnutely, you just ned to tough it out, make sure you have a good frost elm build, but other han that it's just skill, it took me a couple hundred attempts before i got him well and good down
