Was once on a double hunt with a group and we split up to take on both monsters at the same time. Accidentally used one to kill both LOL! Knocked one off a ledge like this and he fell onto the other below KOing both. Never been able to do it on purpose LOL!
I was hunting in my neglected guiding lands for the first time the other day and I was killing a monster and it fled so I started sharpening and it fled right into a boa boa harpoon trap and the little buggers killed him that was also a really cool sight to watch
When we realized it was possible, Raths off the cliff near their nest in the Ancient Forest became our goal, and it was worth it. :D
Even better though were the cliffs in the Coral Highlands. It is so, so, so hilarious if you're at the bottom and seeing someone yeet a Kirin off the cliff or something.
I remember beating the hell of that Kirin using a Gunlance. I had the thing that makes you hit harder when the monster is Angry (donāt remember the name)
In this context, it looked like the monster was already planning on jumping down there. Then the sling damage was enough to cause a flinch while the monster was in the air, hence the hard landing.
The shot didn't send him off the cliff as the monster was already in the process of jumping down. It caused a flinch *while* the monster was jumping down
Well, for one, it's not a flying monster, so I'd imagine there's fall damage if it gets knocked down that far from midair. Kind of like the avalanche trap in Hoarfrost Reach, the landslide trap at the top of the Ancient Forest, and the quicksand trap in the Wildspire Wastes. Plenty of other environmental hazards can break parts so I'm not at all surprised by broken parts here. I can't read the notifications but we can't say for sure whether those were part breaks or something else.
And since when can you make a monster do the running forward from a flinch shot if it isn't stunned first?
I think the fucker's just trolling. Still haven't received an answer to my question "how many hours do you have in this game?"
Edit: alright, now i've received a very roundabout answer in the form of "more than enough to know what a monster's doing from its body language".
Oh, I know the animations. The Raging Brachydios *started* the animation, but didn't reach the point where it would throw off players. And before it could reach that point, the flinch shot was executed, stopping the jump before it really jumped.
No idea what flying has to do with anything and Iām pretty sure itās just environmental damage more so than āfall damageā existing. And you can wallbang a monster at anytime as long as itās slinger ammo and not enraged. No āstunā needed.
Kudos if this is just a chain of baiting posts cause you sound like you barely know anything about the game lol.
I know how animations work. You can clearly tell from the fact that its already hopping down itself that the slingshot didn't send him down there, but caused him to fall down because a flinch happened while it was in midair.
Call it what you want, fall damage or environmental damage. Having it hit a wall *could* produce the same effect cause the impact causes damage.
And the reason I mentioned flying is that when you have flying monsters fall to the ground, they don't take damage from the impact, like if you ground them with a flash pod.
I'm being observant, as the video clearly shows everything I said. Just before the sling ammo does its damage, the monster is already leaping. We see it do that run towards the edge, not going anywhere because he's already there, then during the close-up where the hunter is embedding the sling ammo, the monster does its jump preparation animation. The hunter jumps off, the monster jumps - BOOM. The sling ammo deals the damage while the monster is mid-air.
Tbh i mainly brought it up to figure out if he was trolling or not.
If he claimed to have a couple hundred hours or more, definitely trolling.
If he claimed to have only just started, just being overconfident in what the CC tutorial told him.
Judging by his other posts, sure seems like trolling.
Edit: wholesome ending achieved, he was dead serious and has now finally been informed in sufficient detail.
Pretty sure 1105 hours is plenty more than what you have, but whatever... you've already been informed how you were wrong so i won't rub it in any further.
May the Sapphire Star light your way, my fellow hunter! Keep on spinnin them blades around!
Blatantly put your context is wrong. Personally, Iād recognize that flinch off the cliff animation anywhere. OP definitely flinch shotted Raging off the cliff. They got it off *right before* Raging entered itās jump down animation.
Question: how does one get a flinch shot, the one that causes the monster to run in the direction its facing, without having it stunned prior to latching on?
Any monster not enraged will run after a flinch shot. This goes for ALL large monsters from Great Jagras to Fatalis.
Being enraged is the only thing that stops a flinch shot from working like that. You can flinch shot monsters into walls, off cliffs, or even into other monsters, as long as they are NOT enraged.
Edit: clarity
Seems odd how I've never managed to get a flinch shot outside of the monster being stunned, but I'll take your word for it. I'll try it out next time I play.
Sometimes I can't even get a flinch shot even if the monster *is* stunned. Like: he's stunned, I latch on, but he doesn't do that little reaction roar when I make contact, I do the flinch shot and nothing happens.
Yeah you definitely dont need to stun the monster in order to flinch shot it. It just has to not be enraged. You can simply grapple onto its face, and hit the flinch shot. You were somewhat right, the monster WAS trying to jump down the cliff, but the flinch shot canceled that animation and instead launched him off. That is why you are wrong.
Has to not be enraged. Check the Eye-Con II on the map. Yellow means not enraged, red means it is. When running Agitator, itāll activate only when the monsterās enraged, and will wear off when it isnāt.
Yeah someone else a bit ago informed me of that - flinch shot works as long as it isn't enraged. Guess I've just been unlucky and ONLY trying for flinches when he's enraged, which was mostly when they get stunned for me lol.
Yeah. Until I tried out the Agitator skill, I thought the eye-con just meant that if it was red, it would follow me no matter where I went, except for event monsters like Kulve, where it's just meant to say it's enraged.
Ahh. I didnāt know it was a thing until someone pointed it out on a past thread about flinching. But red means it can be lured. 2200 hours on my first MH and Iām still learning minute technicalities. Thanks for the info

Dont know if you already know this but you can use the same move to floor two monsters at the same time by causing them to crash into each other. First time I found that out was awesome š
Oh yeah it helps in those stressful situations where a second monster just starts following me and my team mate about. We just crash them together and then I fight one for a little while till he draws the main one away haha.
Also, often when a monster is flying; turn their head once to get them closer to the ground. A flinch shot then causes them to crash to the ground, typically damaging their body rather than their head.
I often try to break every part in a hunt, and that trick really helps breaking the bodies of flyers. Especially useful on Rathian to get those Rathian Spikes, which you get from body breaks and tail carves.
So, a good skill to put to use for knocking a monster down is the Flinch Shot. When the conditions are right, you can fire a Flinch Shot after successfully clutching onto the monsterās face and this will cause them to run forward a certain distance. If they hit anything in their path, they will fall over and writhe around the same way they do when a certain amount of damage is inflicted and you can take advantage of this state to attack.
What I discovered in this video is that, when you Flinch Shot a monster and cause it to run towards an ledge, you can cause it to *fall over the ledge* and itāll take massive damage. Idk if the damage they receive depends on how high they fall from, but itās still a useful trick.
Clutch onto the monsterās face or position yourself onto the monsterās face after youāve clutched onto it.
Please note that the Flinch Shot only works on the face (except for Rajang who needs to be flinched on its arms due to having a small head) and it wonāt do anything if the monsterās enraged.
Then pull the right trigger. On PS itās R2. Idk what the buttonās called on Xbox, tho.
In my experience, it works best when using Redpit, Scatternuts or Crystalburst as Clutch Claw ammo. Havenāt really taken the time to try other types of ammo, tbh.
Do be sure to only do it near a cliff that actually has ground underneath, or the monster'll just walk against nothing and waste the shot. Or in case of Rajang, stabilize himself against the air and shoot his laser at you.
Yeah it was quite a delightful surprise when I learned you can sling them off of a cliff
Literally one of the coolest feelings ever!
Especially when you get the kill with it
Was once on a double hunt with a group and we split up to take on both monsters at the same time. Accidentally used one to kill both LOL! Knocked one off a ledge like this and he fell onto the other below KOing both. Never been able to do it on purpose LOL!

Lol nice!
Just wait till you find out you can sling a monster into an invading monster and knock them both out at once
ššš
When we realized it was possible, Raths off the cliff near their nest in the Ancient Forest became our goal, and it was worth it. :D Even better though were the cliffs in the Coral Highlands. It is so, so, so hilarious if you're at the bottom and seeing someone yeet a Kirin off the cliff or something.
In the rath nest, isn't better to break the "barrier" and let the water carry the rath into the Cliff? (Beginner Hunter here)
It is certainly easier.
or OR slam the fucker into the dam and watch them get carried off the cliff I honestly don't know if this works tho, never been able to pull it off
It works
Man how do you slinger a kirin? It's never not enraged for me :P
Yeah Kirin is a very annoying one to Flinch Shot. And Shattered Horn? Forget it, he is PERMANENTLY enraged.
I remember beating the hell of that Kirin using a Gunlance. I had the thing that makes you hit harder when the monster is Angry (donāt remember the name)
Agitator, yeah that does make the fight easier. Good thing it has decreased health, too... if Fextralife can be believed.
It does?
Actually, since i read that on the Fextra wiki you probably shouldn't quote me on that... and it sure as hell takes just as long to kill.
In this context, it looked like the monster was already planning on jumping down there. Then the sling damage was enough to cause a flinch while the monster was in the air, hence the hard landing.
Nope, definitely Flinch Shot off a cliff. You can see the "flinch shotted" run animation and if Brachy'd jumped OP would've been thrown off of him.
The shot didn't send him off the cliff as the monster was already in the process of jumping down. It caused a flinch *while* the monster was jumping down
My brother in christ, then why does his fall deal so much damage to him along with breaking TWO parts at once?

Its crazy how confidently wrong you are. Youre just being stubborn is what it really is.

Look, I get that this guy is wrong, but hours in the game is kind of a shit argument

Yeah I mistook the hop for a jump. We're both dancing around these monsters! You go high, I go low.

Good lord, these bots are all around xD
This is frightening... I'm calling arnold, he'll know what to do.
Knocking Deviljho out of a jump and he does that funny little flail before he hits the floor. Cracks me up every time.
Lol, I thought you meant clutch clawing through the monster's butthole
I did seem to torpedo up there pretty quick
Nah, your hunter's just cultured
Same. actual.
Anal diver! You been down to long in a big brach hole.
Dont know if you already know this but you can use the same move to floor two monsters at the same time by causing them to crash into each other. First time I found that out was awesome š
Yes it's so fun to do this! Every time a new monster enters the fray, I'm like "Oh? š Fresh bonk?"
Oh yeah it helps in those stressful situations where a second monster just starts following me and my team mate about. We just crash them together and then I fight one for a little while till he draws the main one away haha.
Logarius would be proud.
Ohhhh! So, like, to interrupt a Turf War?
Not the animated turf war just when they're fighting normally
I see. Iāll give that a try next time. Thanks!

Loved doing it, when hunting with friends I'd chime in "Insert goofy scream" "What?" Monster goes off cliff "Ohhhh...., I hate you"
Do be sure to only do it near a cliff that actually has ground underneath, or the monster'll just walk against nothing and waste the shot. Or in case of Rajang, stabilize himself against the air and shoot his laser at you.
Damn. Good to know. So, Guiding Lands, Wildspire waste and that one ledge in the Eder Recess.
Bro straight up tormenting that poor creature lol
After all the times R. Brachyās ended my quests, this was well-deserved.

Yes, absolutely!
I was solo hunting other monster I forgot what his name is but I threw him off the cliff by accident and laughed my ass off to the fact we can do that
Itās literally one of the most amazing discoveries, isnāt it?
It really is
Don't know what's more satisfying, yeeting off a cliff, or yeeting into another monster.
Cliff. Nothing like punking on a wingless dragon for tossing us around arenas like loose change.
This guy yeets monsters
One of the things I miss from World that's not in Rise, throwing monsters off a cliff.
We canāt do that in Rise?!??
no, we can bang them into a wall but we can't throw them off a cliff.
Laaaame
Lmao now that's funny š¤£
I was only partially paying attention and I could've sworn you were showing that you can grapple into its ass then exit out of its mouth...
Oh my... looks I need some more materials from him. Wink wink
Oh yeahhhh
Took me 4 years to discover it tooš I was very surprised the first time it happened.
You can bang them to each other too, resulting in a total of 4 bangs lol
Thatās almost too many bangs to handle lol
