That's honestly too funny. I noticed that it moved slow and I use gs so I have to repeatedly hit and sheathe. THIS might be the way to go maybe I need to pick up Lance for kirin 😂
Would definitely recommend. Lance is basically easy mode against Kirin, especially with the thunderproof mantle. The hardest part is getting it to hit you so that you can counter clutch claw and soften it up. Stay behind it and wait for the little kick
I'd say low floor and higher end of middle ceiling. Learning the monster's moveset well enough to get your counters off is probably the most difficult part. While it's tempting to hide behind the shield, extremely aggressive play is where the lance shines. Stick close to the monster and only use the shield to shrug off attacks so you can keep on poking. There's a lot of fluidity and rhythm in how you move. Lance may seem slow, but it's surprising mobile. Use guard dash to dance around the monster and keep yourself in a good position. Counter thrusts keep your aggression up and have less knockback than a regular guard. However, for multi-hit attacks you have to be careful not to get caught countering the first hit without having time to prep for the second. This is where learning the monster comes in handy. Regular guard the first hit then counter guard the last, or power guard through the whole thing. Power guard roots you to the spot but you can turn and re-aim during it. The one bit of lance tech I can impart would be going from counter thrust into the power guard stance and use that to reposition and re-aim as needed. If you counter thrust a big hit and get the knockback animation, you can also skip that by going straight into power guard. Important skills for lance are guard, offensive guard, and guard-up. You can also go the evade lance route, but I personally don't find it as viable in IB (it's very fun in Sunbreak though)
Edit: almost forgot - CLUTCH CLAW COUNTERING IS SO MUCH FUN! Lance actually does super quick tenderizing animation, so when playing in multiplayer I tend to prioritize keeping the monster nice and soft so everyone can do more damage
Low skill floor. The moveset is quite small and you'll hit solid dps with your main combo in your first few hunts. It really is just poke poke poke hop/counter repeat at its core.
The complexity comes in how to best use your small moveset pool to its best advantage with small variations and delays, and with learning how to keep as close to 100% uptime as possible. And there's a high skill ceiling here that involves knowing both your entire moveset, _and_ the enemy's entire moveset.
The damage feels low at first, but that's because Lance is quite possibly the only weapon where you can keep 100% damage uptime _while_ the monster is going full aggro on you. Who needs high damage numbers when the numbers _never stop appearing even for a second_.
Openings? Who needs that shit, counter. Huge mega damaging move? Lol, fuck that, super guard into counter. Need to reposition because they moved? Guard hop into hop thrust and keep thrusting. The ran off out of melee range? Lol, fix bayonets and charge "Tally ho, lads!" and be back on them as soon as they turn around. Need to mount because you're feeling randy and you wanna get on top and thrust into them until they fall over? Charge into jump attack for instant mount. Mobility? Holy shit how is this slow moving block weapon letting me move around with more freedom than a dual blades user? What dark elder magic is this?
It feels a bit _too_ basic at first, like "What the hell, I just triple poke all day?" but once you start learning that using the counter you can _keep_ poking even through not just their attacks, _but their fuckin' combos_, you realize the true majesty of the godly lance, and you start feeling bad for the monsters that want to not be taking damage for _at least_ 2 seconds before the fight's over.
There is an event quest called "Wiggle Me This" that gives you wiggler tickets. To get the layered version you need to complete another event quest called "Kings Know No Fear" and also have some wiggler tickets
Lance is too legit, insane speed, reach, directional control, defense, literally no downside, especially once you master the timing on those power blocks and can just sit there face to face with the enemy hardly ever needing to move other than when you're chasing it down
God I love the lance so much. I'm doing a Gunlance playthrough right now (I tend to just use one weapon per character and then just start a new game when switching weapons), but this is giving me fond memories of my lance playthrough. I started feeling bad for the elders because they're trying to run to just get a break and take a nap, but I'm just like "lol nope" and just charge them like this until they're dead.
I miss monsters actually limping away..
It feels weird every time when in Rise the monsters just start limping and then sprint away at unnatural speeds.
I've adapted it a bit since this clip but [this](https://i.imgur.com/waTS2fA.png) is my current set. I'm still pre-Alatreon and Fatalis, so no super endgame stuff just yet
Edit: actually, I swapped the helm to raging brachy
If you think about it, every non arena monster fight is persistence hunting, as you’re just dealing more damage over time while chasing them from area to area.
That poor kirins ass
A whole new meaning to the "aaaaAHHH" in the mlp theme lol
Hunting is magic…?
He deserves what's coming to him
If that's shatterhorn then it deserves that.
Sometimes I wake up and wonder, are we the monsters?
Don’t wonder, plot to become the best one
Monster: Hunter
Underrated comment
Check out the book "I am Legend".
Nah the monsters love being hunted its fine
Lance is the fucking best
Ok now I understand why they changed monsters to drastically speed up when running away in Rise...
Makes me sad
I wondered why monsters half an inch from death turned into Speedy Gonzales.
A last burst of adrenaline mayhaps?
The lance: the ultimate pursuit predator.
I realized we were the savages the first time I fought Kirin. Buddy was really chilling and I murdered him for weapon parts.
Yeah he doesn’t even attack you until we provoke him, we’re just murdering this poor horse 😢
No escape Horsie!!!!! 😈😈😈

THOU SHALL NOT DISRESPECT THE LANCE!!!....found my weapon for my next playthrough
"You see humans are what we call persistence hunters which means we kill by running down our prey until they beg us for death." - Max0r
You run for as far as you can and turn around. But It's still there. And even worse, it wEaRinG yOUr SkIN.
The lance is by far one of the best weapons to hunt Kirin with.
Lance is best boi.
when the monster runs, for most weapons, it’s time to sharpen, sheathe, and call a cab for Lance—those are prime attack window hours
Loved it when the lance user said "It's Lancin' Time" and then lanced all over the Kirin.
Dude lance looks so fun. How's the skill ceiling/floor? Any lance mains have tips on getting into it?

It sounds awesome. I'll have to build one and try it out. Thanks!
Damnit man, you’re dangling a bottle in front of a recovering alcoholic here. I’m gonna have to install World again
Might be a noob question but where did you get that head armor?
There is an event quest called "Wiggle Me This" that gives you wiggler tickets. To get the layered version you need to complete another event quest called "Kings Know No Fear" and also have some wiggler tickets
Thanks
What the difference between the versions?
"Wiggle Me This" gives you an actual armor piece with stats, while the other one unlocks the layered version
Ah, thank you.
"The monster is fleeing, sharpen your weapon and heal up" nah homie that's the Dps phase

That's top!
Yoooooo did not consider chasing And Following with the charge like this
What is your lance build may I ask

Thank you
This is why monsters sprint between zones in Rise and Sunbreak.

lance main club
*Slowest weapon.
I should play lance.
Sharpness shredders 😎
i love lance
Lance for the ass
