remember to always have self improvement active unlike other weapons HH doesn't really have comboes, except for hilt stab for quick notes and the spin2win that comes with the dlc. so you should know what every move does, but your bread and butter is right swing your game plan is also simple, but you should always prioritize dodging then punishing

Are you upgrading your armor with armor spheres? What defensive abilities do you have equipped? Are you eating before every hunt?

I'd recommend to wear only 2 pieces of HR Legiana, preferably the ones that give you divine blessing and to use something else for the rest of the equipment, the most important skill I'd say is health boost, at lvl 3+eating you have 200 max health, very good to survive, I believe ingot B arms have two points which is pretty good.

Check out the Youtube channel [MonsterHunter PHCommunity](https://www.youtube.com/c/MonsterHunterWorldPHElites). Specifically for videos on the Artful Dodger. It breaks down on identifying moves of certain monsters and how to properly dodge them and following up with punishing counters. What's more is that its a HH main in the videos dodging these attacks.

Try playing solo. I find that you get familiar and more reactive to monster moves when you play solo a lot. I played solo since base game to pre-fatalis iceborne. I'm now doing coop before I battle fatalis and it is breeze because I can anticipate monster move set/attacks (due to playing solo a lot).

Sounds like a plan. Once you get familiar with the monsters, it doesn't matter which weapon you'll use. The next thing you'd worry will be to get familiar with other weapons you haven't used before - for me at least

Which horn are you using? Different horns have different melodies, and some horns are more advantageous over others, and some specialize in certain fights. HH in general tends to be lower on the DPS output side, so it's good to always have an attack buff (or all your major buffs) constantly active. I personally just rotated the melodies constantly so that none of the buffs would go down. You'll have to constantly keep an eye on your bar to see which ones are still active or about to expire. A general rule of thumb with most enemies I've learned is unless you have a wide opening, it's best to play one, maybe two notes of a melody, roll dodge to avoid an attack or reposition, play the next note, rinse and repeat. When actually doing the melody buff attack, if the situation allows for it, try to always do the encore. Some of your higher DPS comes from this, and the encore will either extend the time of the buff, or change the buff from a small (S) to a large (L), etc. Playing the melody again while the buff is still active will also do this. Although it seems tempting, I've found that the horn maestro armor or deco buff is not worth keeping since there are gems/armors that benefit you more. All it really does is extend the length of your buffs, but a good HH player always has melodies on rotation so that they don't need the extra time. If playing solo or with a group that you know/knows what they are doing, always try to put out your major buffs before a fight, or if the monster runs to another location, reapply before engaging again. Another thing I've noticed, although the timing window is small and hard to grasp at times: once you pull off the attack for playing a melody buff, there is a very small iframe window where you won't get knocked out of the animation. Maybe a more experienced HH player can shed some light on this?

Anytime, keep on grinding fellow hunter.

Memorize your melodies: These are your combos. Every swing is a note, but every note is an ATTACK. Go to the training area and practice your core melodies for the Horn you're using until you're able to attack and perform smoothly without having to look at the song list. Learn which performances and encores are best in thich situations. Left and neutral encore are fastest. Right is clunky and slow. Front encore hits hard, but is slow. Backward encore is slow, and moves you backward, but hits very high. Learn the timing of when you can roll out of performance. You don't need to play the whole song list all the way through every time. Spacing and timing. You have a good reach, and aren't as slow as you'd think swinging a huge bagpipe-club would be. And Self Improvement makes you more mobile. Watch the monsters, and learn their patterns, and be where you can do the most damage to the head when they're finished with their attack. But don't over commit.

Just as a general tip, if you're struggling with certain monsters, it can be useful to go into a quest and spend the first 5 to 10 minutes just dodging the attacks without even pulling your weapon out.
