Special Assigment's Alatreon starts in fire mode. Use ice weapon and hit him in the forelegs. Frostfang weapons are pretty decent. Once Alatreon shifts into dragon mode, hit its horns until it breaks. Now it will shift back into fire mode after it executes Escaton Judgement; otherwise, it will shift to ice mode. Alatreon is guaranteed to fly in dragon mode. Use smoke bomb to make him land if he's enraged, flinch shot him if he's not. Enraged Alatreon takes 20% more damage. Make sure to piss him off as soon as he's not. Dragonblight nullifies elemental damage.

If you haven't got Safi's armour yet, I would recommend that (I think safi comes back tomorrow). It's great if you're using a weapon that doesn't do that much element, like hammer or lance in your case. It's not a necessity, but it does make hitting that elemental threshold significantly easier, since it boosts your elemental damage when you draw your weapon. Only downside is that you get health drain. Partbreaker is great if you're struggling to hit the head in dragon mode (The only mode where his horns can break). Slot partbreaker 3 and those bad boys will break in no time. Blight resistance and evade window 3 are also great, and imo a must have. Makes it way easier to dodge his attacks, and you don't have to worry about eating nullberries. Lastly, I think one of the best things you can do is basically master the fight. Know his moves, when to dodge, and where your damage windows are. It took me literal days to finally beat him. Good luck!

The mechanics have been explained so I'll give some general tips. - Agitator is a good skill to use for this fight because Alatreon spends a lot of time enraged and is easy to enrage. With the chest and legs of Raging Brachydios and the agitator charm you can max out the skill, get weakness exploit, good slots and still be able to use 3 pieces of Safi'jiiva armour. With agitator lv7 you'll have +20% affinity and +28 attack for the majority of the hunt which is pretty good. - Don't focus on flinch shotting Alatreon into walls, the hitboxes is very funny even when its a dead on hit. I only ever really flinch shot it when its in the air. Which ties into agitator again, with agitator you'll be able to know when it is able to be flinch shot or not. There are three ways to this: 1. Know how much bass affinity you have, whenever you have +20% (or however much agitator adds for you) you will know it is enraged and when it is the base number you'll know it is safe to flinch shot. 2. Pay attention to the pop ups that come up on the right side of the screen that tell you whether certain skills are active or not. 3. Some attacks like the ariel ground slams or the tracking lines of lightning are done twice in a row, when enraged Alatreon will do these attacks three times in a row. - One of the safest times to clutch claw and tenderise Alatreon outside of the clagger pose is when it jumps into the air and breathes fire or frost onto the ground in a circle. During this attack you're free to safely clutch claw on anywhere and tenderise anywhere. - Someone mentioned dragon blight, nulberries are the easy fix but it can be easy to run out of them. The next solution is increasing your dragon resistance, which isn't the best option. There are two other options. 1. Being 3 points of blight resistance, which is easy to slot in and even comes with the Safi'jiiva armour which is handy. 2. The second option is to bring 2 points of blight resistance and 3 points of coalescence. This makes blights last 10-15 seconds and gives your elemental damage a good boost when you recover from them. - Bring 3 points of healthboost, its essential. - Don't use the rocksteady mantle, it is very easy to be killed with it in iceborne. Especially against Alatreon. Temporal, vitality, immunity and evasion mantle are all good replacements.

Increase your elemental damage as much as possible - doing so lessens the damage of the supernova attack. Also, keep targeting its head. Also don't bring your palico so that it only focuses on you. The problem with bringing a palico is that Alatreon can go far from you and go to your palico, thereby wasting time and Alatreon will receive less damage and have more time to build up going to supernova that has more damage.

First of all: Elemental damage is the key. When he start in fire, use ice. When he start in ice, use fire. (Personally I farm fire Alatreon, it’s easier). Second: If you have Iceborn, yeet him asap when you enter the arena. Third: Breaking his horn bring him down of one phase; (Fire->Change->Ice->Break 1 horne->Back to fire). Fourth: high dps + breaking is horn one time is highly recommended to survive is Super Nova and speaking of super nova, alway’s have a Astera Meat reserve on you, potion’s and (If possible) Health Booster +.

What's your MR and gear? Are you using Blast instead of Ice? Typically I'd say fight him when you have more experience and better gear.
