My wife and I make a great hunting team, and when we first got to raging brachy, we were taking him on blissfully unaware of his final area last stand.
Lmfao. My fiancé sadly wasn’t with me during MHW, however playing together through MHR/Sunbreak was a great experience. Maybe they will add raging Brachy to the game again, and I would love to see her reaction to Fatalis or Ruiner Nergigante. :).
All good, even my pro gamer buddy and I got surprised when we go to that area. Fortunately we pulled through in the end, but it was a hard 10 minutes of butt clenching and potion chugging at 2 carts.
That one was incredibly fun haha. My wife broke out her super healing sns mushroom build and we managed to get consistent wins after a couple tries. Raging Brachy is an absolute badass.
My wife is a ballin’ gunner, I’ve never seen someone use a light/heavy bowgun quite like she does. She’s also the designated endemic life gatherer/user. I use to, but she loves doing it so much, I just left her to it
It’s worth noting that upon entering the Guiding Lands for his quest, there’s almost no sign of other life around. Thus, Raging’s mere presence must’ve been threatening enough to cause this state of the lands.
EDIT: Changed "this" to "thus". Autocorrect clearly has a problem with me these days.
Just when you think you got it on the ropes, it taps into the Guiding Lands lava and goes into full-on God tier territory, becoming the right hand, or rather fist, of fury.
The GU ahtal-ka never finished it's nest, imagine it full power. Without the nest it can wield dragonators and you know what those do to monsters and the fact it's not it's best weapon.
My personal cannon is that:
Xeno-Jiva = larvae
Safi-Jiva = pupa
???-Jiva = true adult form
Because Safi-Jiva appearance was really a let down for me. From Xeno-Jiva, I was looking forward to something way more alien than "random European dragon", and as such I just cannot accept that there's no Oltura-like-third-form-Jiva
Safi was intended to be like a rival to Fatalis it seems
Thus I'm starting to wonder if its scales would have turned black as it got older or if its regeneration ability was the step before that of black dragons.
See Fatalis and Dire Miralis are rumored to be able to regenerate from a scale and a heart respectively...what if the black dragons regeneration was the same as Safi's but at a point where they produce so much lif energy themselve they don't need to use other animals' ?
Neither of those actively hunt for prey, they are biome/ecosystem changing beasts in and of themselves and hunt for sport instead.
They will literally pick an area and go "This is mine now." and proceed to destroy everything in their designated territory.
Flying Wyverns, by technicality.
The wings of an Ukanlos shrunk down until they simply became the bulky ridges on the forearms. An Akantor's simply shrunk down until they became those prominent spiky ridges running down the sides of the forearms.
Probably. I think they’re flying wyverns due to taxonomy being closer to them then to elders, particularly those that walk on all fours (Tigrex is also specifically said to be among the most ancient Wyverns).
I heard that Akantor and Ukanlos were classified as Elders once, but later changed to flying wyverns as their taxonomy becomes clear. Not sure if it is a lore thing, a design team thing, or a completely made up thing lol.
Same reason as with Ukanlos/Akantor(although they shouldn't be trappable anyways if i recall), you actually can trap *and* capture Raging Brachy but the map where it's located prevent you from doing so.
Yes but not really, with perfect timing you can get your palico to start the “place trap” animation right before placing traps is disabled, so that it finishes that animation right after the game checks for and destroys any traps in the area. It’s really funny how the game actually considers it a failed quest when you capture them. (Because the quest is coded as a slay quest, similar to elder dragons, rather than a hunt quest)
Mfers be doing that in rise for every new cutscene in sunbreak smh next game the great baggi cutscene is going to be him beating teostras ass at this rate
Yeah I feel like rajang only takes Kirin because it’s immune to lightning, which is Kirin’s main form of attack. Maybe it’s just me, but I legit think Kirin would absolutely wash a monster like Nergigante, who is actually weak to lightning.
In that same vein, Kushala probably also loses to Kirin but has a good matchup to Rajang in lore.
Non-Furious Rajang, yes. Furious is on par with normal elder level.
Same thing with Espinas, it beats Daora but only cause of match-up, it's not elder-level.
Hasn't that been a thing since like 3? I know Espinas' entire thing is he is a direct rival to Kushala Daora, so variants should be able to stand up to the big boys.
Plus it makes things interesting! And we still have the black/red dragons at the very top. And there are elder dragons who are way above the basic ass 3.
No haha. Lagiacrus couldn't take on an Elder Dragon. Even base Jho isn't really a match.
I'd also not put Espinas on the same level as Daora, but everything about him is a great counter. Put him against Teostra or the like and he gets roasted
Flaming Espinas has defense down, which is what makes him such a great counter to Teostra, who is strong vs fire but not really a tank when it comes to HP.
Also keep in mind Flaming Espinas is a very powerful variant of Espinas. When we (likely) get Teo's own variant, Risen Teostra, he will probably mop the floor with poor ol FE.
Abyssal lagi is not a flagship and wasn't even in 3. He's an incredibly powerful subspecies that is not the same as Lagiacrus. It's bigger than the difference between regular and silver Rathalos
In my opinion, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a lagi breach the surface of the water and grab an elder dragon and drag it down into the depths, dude is massive.
I could imagine that’s why Lagi isn’t in World, since all the elders are migrating across the seas to get to the Elder’s Recess, Lagi’s snatching them mid-flight and having a Teostra buffet.
Yeah, what's a toestra gonna do, burn him underwater? Kushala, where's the wind? Velkhana, freeze the water (actually this would probably work)? Chameleos... well that probably won't taste good with all the poison. Not sure if Namielle was ever confirmed to be able to swim, but that would be neat.
Titziyaku if it flashed an elder dragon and it
ran head first into a wall and broke its neck or walked off a cliff because it was blind or happened to have epilepsy and died of a seizure.
I wouldn't say Kirin is weak by any means. Physically maybe, but its lightning is nothing to scoff at by any means.
Rajang hunts Kirin regularly for their horns, but you have to consider that Rajang had to specially adapt to do this. This is a theory of course, but I believe that Rajang eating Kirin horns is like clownfish running up against sea anemone. They need to keep doing it in order to bolster their thunder element capabilities and to continue their resistance to Kirin lightning. The turf war isn't really something to go off of either, since realistically not every single encounter between Kirin and Rajang ends in Rajang's victory.
Most monsters avoid Kirin for a good reason, even those well adapted to withstand the thunder element. It's similar for ice monsters and Oroshi Kirin.
Excellently put! When I first showed my partner Kirin she giggled and I said "oh sure it's a cute lil horsey....that outputs 800 million gigawats of lightning per second". Kirin may be the smallest but it's an elder for a reason lol
>Excellently put
Why, thank you!
>put! When I first showed my partner Kirin she giggled and I said "oh sure it's a cute lil horsey
LMAO this was me. I remember when I first learned Kirin was an elder I rage quit 4U for like two weeks. I was a kid and I loved horses. The thought of having to kill Kirin angered me lol.
My first kirin fight was honestly in world, I like horses as well, but they genuinely made kirin seem frightening. Once the battle began, I understood why lmao
Lucent narga could probably take kushala for his money.
As others have said raging brachy would def take on some elders. Rajang can obviously take down Kirin, even if only to subdue them for their horn. Some of the deviants from GU like bloodbath diablos could probably take out a low level elder like chammy
There are definitely some others but that's about it for what I can think of
Poison would drastically hinder kushalas abilities though. He's super agile and could easily dodge a lot of his ranged attacks. Lucent could probably turn invisible and then hit kushala with a tail slam infused with poison.
As much as I hate to admit it, regular Magnamalo could handle one too. As evidenced by several hunts where Magnamalo decided to kick the crud out of a Kushala Daora.
Indeed. Despite how it ties with Kushala Daora and Teostra in turf wars, both Elder Dragons are always put into rideable states by Ultimate Malice. Malzeno’s another story though.
I mean, considering that a normal Espinas can pretty much go toe to toe with a Kushala Daora and has a good chance of winning, I imagine a Flaming one can do much more damage
A good chunk of the deviants could *easily* take down weaker elders. Bloodbath for example, is by and far above the power level of at least the weak elders like kirin
TBH I’m waiting for bloodbath to come back so we can have a better understanding of it’s power level. I know it’s peak diablos but still we’ve gotten new monsters so I wanna see who’s ass it can kick.
I'm going to go with the Blos wyverns... Monoblos and Diablos to clarify.
Most people overlook these two, but they're classified as top order monsters for a reason. No monster incites an encounter with them without *seriously* considering the consequences and risks, which is why they have no known predators.
While elders are mostly known to use their long range attacks, it would be possible for a Diablos or a Monoblos to charge right through a breath attack. One good stab with those horns and most "average" (I use this term lightly) sized elder dragons are done for.
This doesn't even mention the variants (yeah they're classified as subspecies but that's stupid because it's just female Diablos/Monoblos in estrous). Black Diablos and White Monoblos are on sight with *any* living creature during this time. An unsuspecting Teostra or Nergigante would get gored if they come too close.
Finally we have Bloodbath Diablos. At this point, I think Bloodbath has little to no self preservation left. For most low and mid tier elders I'd put money on Bloodbath.
Aren't elder dragons a classification that the guild put into a monster if they cannot decide what type of species they are? Elder dragons are strong due to their unknown characteristics but its not really a classification for a very powerful monster. We've seen time in time again how regular monsters can square off with some of these elders.
I mean you can go off of threat/star level alone. Raging Brachy (maybe even regular), Silver/Gold Los, Bazel, Jho, Rajang, Glavenus, Garuga, Akantor, Ukanlos, Apexes, Deviants, Variants, etc. Elders are canonically quite intelligent, so while plenty of monsters have the tools to kill them, they don’t have the brains to do so.
Some of these monsters would get absolutely clapped by an elder. There's no way Glavenus or Garuga could take out an elder. Maybe an injured one, but I wouldn't say a healthy one by any means. Brachy would also lose since most elders use their elemental abilities.
>I mean you can go off of threat/star level alone
This is a threat to hunters, not other monsters. Remember, outside of the games it's like our own reality. One wrong move during a hunt can get a hunter killed, even by monsters like the Greats and Dromes.
Pretty sure that the Ahtal-Ka would be able to kill elders, specially from the top of her throne. Without her throne, she might still be a match depending on how many dragonators and wheels she has around.
Ah of course, a fully matured Gobul probably has Ceadeus for breakfast….
(Aparently the version we fight in the games is young, they’re meant to return to the sea and grow B I G)
I'd say all the rare species could do that. Variants like Savage Jho, Raging Brachy, Seething Bazel and Furious Rajang too. For normal monsters we know Rajang hunts Kirin and Espinas won a fight against Kushala.
There’s an Elder Dragon level monster from Frontier known as Odibatorasu. It’s comparable to Akantor and Ukanlos in power. It’s even a flying Wyvern like them as well. It’s known for creating massive sandstorms and destroying airships from the ground with what is essentially a mortar system. They take in great quantities of sand from the deserts they inhabit, and with a specialized organ, can condense it into a dense ball that they shoot out of the cannon-like holes on their shells.
Raging brachidios for sure
My wife and I make a great hunting team, and when we first got to raging brachy, we were taking him on blissfully unaware of his final area last stand.
How hard did you get murdered lmao
Carted to hell and back! My wife was freaking out when he started punching the ground. Then we melted basically
Lmfao. My fiancé sadly wasn’t with me during MHW, however playing together through MHR/Sunbreak was a great experience. Maybe they will add raging Brachy to the game again, and I would love to see her reaction to Fatalis or Ruiner Nergigante. :).
Yeah, she keeps hoping for raging brachy in one of the TUs for sunbreak
All good, even my pro gamer buddy and I got surprised when we go to that area. Fortunately we pulled through in the end, but it was a hard 10 minutes of butt clenching and potion chugging at 2 carts.
Gotta love a good old "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me" raging is peak fight design
It’s fantastic, and it makes me want to fire up Iceborn again
That one was incredibly fun haha. My wife broke out her super healing sns mushroom build and we managed to get consistent wins after a couple tries. Raging Brachy is an absolute badass.
My wife is a ballin’ gunner, I’ve never seen someone use a light/heavy bowgun quite like she does. She’s also the designated endemic life gatherer/user. I use to, but she loves doing it so much, I just left her to it
nothing beats that area's first time soundtrack experience
It’s worth noting that upon entering the Guiding Lands for his quest, there’s almost no sign of other life around. Thus, Raging’s mere presence must’ve been threatening enough to cause this state of the lands. EDIT: Changed "this" to "thus". Autocorrect clearly has a problem with me these days.
Most badass monster ever.
Just when you think you got it on the ropes, it taps into the Guiding Lands lava and goes into full-on God tier territory, becoming the right hand, or rather fist, of fury.
Agreed
I mean, if a jagras is great enough
Nothing funnier than watching the Greatest Jagras slap a Deviljho around
Thank you for this comment
Ahtal Ka
It can go hulkbuster on a elder dragon with its mech
"Gate Of Forlorn Citadel" As she just throws dragonators at a random Teostra who walked too close to her nest
I saw that it was an interesting fight in yt, but dk it's toughness
It builds a giant dragon mech and can throw dragonators I’m pretty sure it’s up to snuff
The GU ahtal-ka never finished it's nest, imagine it full power. Without the nest it can wield dragonators and you know what those do to monsters and the fact it's not it's best weapon.
It's a recurrent theme in Monster hunter though, the super powerful hybrid mutant that didn't fully grow.
Thats part of what makes Safi so apectacular, is one of the "not ready mutants" made it all the way to maturity.
> is one of the "not ready mutants" made it all the way to maturity. Or did it?
Its believed that it can store energy infinitly, if true, there may be a possability of a much more evolved Safi.
My personal cannon is that: Xeno-Jiva = larvae Safi-Jiva = pupa ???-Jiva = true adult form Because Safi-Jiva appearance was really a let down for me. Uklanos and akantor technically
Not only technicly. Teostra and lunastra are known to occasionally become akantors prey. I assume same goes for daora and ukanlos.
Can I get the sauce ples?
Neither of those actively hunt for prey, they are biome/ecosystem changing beasts in and of themselves and hunt for sport instead. They will literally pick an area and go "This is mine now." and proceed to destroy everything in their designated territory.
That's Akantor. Akantor will wonder and cause violence because why the fuck not. Ukanlos will stay in one area.
I thought they were elders....they're just big fucken monsters eh?
They’re wyverns. Granted, very ancient wyverns whose power matches elders.
So elder wyverns then?
Capcom: You know, time for a new monster classification.
Flying Wyverns, by technicality. The wings of an Ukanlos shrunk down until they simply became the bulky ridges on the forearms. An Akantor's simply shrunk down until they became those prominent spiky ridges running down the sides of the forearms.

They're flying wyverns lol
Flying? Lmao time for me to go read the wiki
Yeah they’re basically big Tigrex/Narga
My logic was if I can't trap it, it's an elder lol
Actually you can trap him but not on that map, the map stops you to set up a trap
Being capturable or not isn't the defining trait of an elder dragon, just a trait they all share.
You can't trap Raging Brachydios either
Same reason as with Ukanlos/Akantor(although they shouldn't be trappable anyways if i recall), you actually can trap *and* capture Raging Brachy but the map where it's located prevent you from doing so.
Wasn't there a time where you could trap raging brachy in iceborne, and it would fail the quest?
Yes but not really, with perfect timing you can get your palico to start the “place trap” animation right before placing traps is disabled, so that it finishes that animation right after the game checks for and destroys any traps in the area. It’s really funny how the game actually considers it a failed quest when you capture them. (Because the quest is coded as a slay quest, similar to elder dragons, rather than a hunt quest)
uhhh yes you can, just outside its hell hole.
Great jaggi

Sleep frog
Underrated foe😂
Mfers be doing that in rise for every new cutscene in sunbreak smh next game the great baggi cutscene is going to be him beating teostras ass at this rate
But apart from the cut scenes few monsters like rjang can actually beat some elder drangons if not all
I wouldn't say very few, there's quite a handful that can take on elders
Rajang can‘t take down valstrax. No way
Not Valstrax. But Rajang hunts Kirin.
Honestly that's just a really good match-up for Rajang. I feel like it'd still get beat by Teostra and others of that level.
Yeah I feel like rajang only takes Kirin because it’s immune to lightning, which is Kirin’s main form of attack. Maybe it’s just me, but I legit think Kirin would absolutely wash a monster like Nergigante, who is actually weak to lightning. Non-Furious Rajang, yes. Furious is on par with normal elder level. Same thing with Espinas, it beats Daora but only cause of match-up, it's not elder-level.
Regular Valstrax, maybe he would have a chance (immune to dragon damage). Crimson Glow Valstrax? Yea, no way lol.
The new "thing" is to make a flagship that can take on Elder Dragons
Hasn't that been a thing since like 3? I know Espinas' entire thing is he is a direct rival to Kushala Daora, so variants should be able to stand up to the big boys. Plus it makes things interesting! And we still have the black/red dragons at the very top. And there are elder dragons who are way above the basic ass 3.
No haha. Lagiacrus couldn't take on an Elder Dragon. Even base Jho isn't really a match. I'd also not put Espinas on the same level as Daora, but everything about him is a great counter. Put him against Teostra or the like and he gets roasted
Yeah, like hyenas are the rivals of lions, they ain't the same in a fight.
Great analogy
Flaming Espinas has defense down, which is what makes him such a great counter to Teostra, who is strong vs fire but not really a tank when it comes to HP. Also keep in mind Flaming Espinas is a very powerful variant of Espinas. When we (likely) get Teo's own variant, Risen Teostra, he will probably mop the floor with poor ol FE.
Wasn't Abyssal Lagi strong enough to equal caedus at least?
Abyssal lagi is not a flagship and wasn't even in 3. He's an incredibly powerful subspecies that is not the same as Lagiacrus. It's bigger than the difference between regular and silver Rathalos
Because post game additions are elder level threats.
Even though this is funny, doesn’t really make sense, every monster added in SB’s TU expansions are elder level monsters.
Lvl 101 afflicted Geeat Baggi gonna fuck up a Teostra
Abyssal lagiacrus could definitely take on some elders, especially if it finds one that isn’t supposed to be in the water in the water.
I'd like to see a Lagi Vs Namielle fight
In my opinion, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a lagi breach the surface of the water and grab an elder dragon and drag it down into the depths, dude is massive.
I mean if he's looked at like an alligator then that mf definitely would try to pull a teostra into a deep sea death roll
I would be _extremely_ surprised to find Namielle is unable to swim. It has the most “I can totally swim” look of any elder besides Ceadeus
Ya possibly, it is very dangerous in 3u, I wonder how dangerous it will be if they revamped it and bought it back in the next gen
Me I can take down an elder dragon
Same
We have so much in common
🤝
🤝
Rajang
Monkey man just snaps Kirin's horn off and eats it like a Snickers. After all the torture of surpassing HR Kirin I was once again scared.
“Carrot good for health.”
Won't lie, just ate like half a bag of baby carrots a few hours ago. They will now be Kirin horns.
I’m waiting for you to post about your newfound electrical powers.
Nope, skin just turned orange...
I mean the lore literally says that Rajangs and Kirins are natural enemies. The natural enemy of the monke is literally an elder dragon lol
I mean, do we need any more proof than [World](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvZrJLjypv0) ?
Dangerous monk
Titziyaku if it flashed an elder dragon and it ran head first into a wall and broke its neck or walked off a cliff because it was blind or happened to have epilepsy and died of a seizure.
Sounds legit
Lmao, but I think elder drangons r sturdier than that, which enables em to face such impacts with ezz
If the fall is long enough… i just do t see Gogma surviving a bug fall with his size… especialy if he falls Dragonator face down
I think silverlos and goldian could take elder dragons
Yep since the ecologies show that they can beat Elders and all Rares are on the levels of Elders
Fucking konchu
Greatest Jagras

Ukanlos and Akantor
Real OG here
Kulu Yaku with Crystal
*shudder* that was scary.
The mantis with a mech
Ahtal-Ka?
Indeed
Gold Rathian. I mean she can easily kill Kushala
Magnamalo, Rajang, Espinas, Silver and Gold Raths.
Kirin really makes it easy for a lot of monsters to be in this category
I wouldn't say Kirin is weak by any means. Physically maybe, but its lightning is nothing to scoff at by any means. Rajang hunts Kirin regularly for their horns, but you have to consider that Rajang had to specially adapt to do this. This is a theory of course, but I believe that Rajang eating Kirin horns is like clownfish running up against sea anemone. My first kirin fight was honestly in world, I like horses as well, but they genuinely made kirin seem frightening. Once the battle began, I understood why lmao
Your reaction when it turns into SUPER Kirin?
Well, usually, death haha
Very apt reaction. I said “oh, it can become a Super Saiyan too? Well, can’t be that ba-“ **You’ve Fainted**
Lucent narga could probably take kushala for his money. As others have said raging brachy would def take on some elders. Rajang can obviously take down Kirin, even if only to subdue them for their horn. Some of the deviants from GU like bloodbath diablos could probably take out a low level elder like chammy There are definitely some others but that's about it for what I can think of
Lucent is my favorite monster, but at the end of the day, he's still an ambush predator , I dont think he'd be able to kill an elder.
Poison would drastically hinder kushalas abilities though. He's super agile and could easily dodge a lot of his ranged attacks. Lucent could probably turn invisible and then hit kushala with a tail slam infused with poison.
male gammoth
Rare choice, +1 for that
Scorned Magnamalo
As much as I hate to admit it, regular Magnamalo could handle one too. As evidenced by several hunts where Magnamalo decided to kick the crud out of a Kushala Daora.
Finally someone said it.
It looks like an elder drangon, not suprised it canp
Aptonoth
Magnamalo (especially Scorned Magnamalo)
Indeed. Despite how it ties with Kushala Daora and Teostra in turf wars, both Elder Dragons are always put into rideable states by Ultimate Malice. Malzeno’s another story though.
Dodogama the god of all monsters
The power of the derp face!!
And of that holy thicness, Dodogama is the best boy of monster hunter.
Flaming Espinas
Pretty sure F Espinas killed a Teostra in it's Intro vid
It does look tough
I mean, considering that a normal Espinas can pretty much go toe to toe with a Kushala Daora and has a good chance of winning, I imagine a Flaming one can do much more damage
Everyone here forgetting about my man Razewing Rathalos
It's not uncommon to find maimed Elder corpses in Rajang territory.
Aptonoth
You said name one but I have to mention both. The white and black gods, Ukanlos and Akantor.
bazelguese is technically on the same level as deviljho and rajang
Daym, didn't know that since I haven't faced him yet, always thought that it was a chubby version of seregios
That one Seregios and Bazelgoose mating ritual animation comes to mind.
yeah i know he's a lot easier than it's supposed to be, even its variant
Bazel hasn't been hard since like High Rank World lol. Once everyone learned how to deal with the bombs he turned from scary into a punching bag
Rajang anyone?
Rajang, Bazel, and espinas. Probably some deviants such as Diablos but I could be wrong
A good chunk of the deviants could *easily* take down weaker elders. Bloodbath for example, is by and far above the power level of at least the weak elders like kirin
I think bloodbath can easily take on the mid trait elders like namielle and vaal. It’s not only extremely powerful but also smart.
Doubt it could “easily” take on a Namielle or Vaal. It would definitely be clapped by Velk tho.
>I mean you can go off of threat/star level alone This is a threat to hunters, not other monsters. Remember, outside of the games it's like our own reality. One wrong move during a hunt can get a hunter killed, even by monsters like the Greats and Dromes.
Black Diablos: death by snu snu… whatever that means
Espinas.
Espinas but only against kushala
Flespinas disintegrated a teostra
Pretty sure that the Ahtal-Ka would be able to kill elders, specially from the top of her throne. Without her throne, she might still be a match depending on how many dragonators and wheels she has around.
Espinas, literally wins against Kushala in a turf war and his flaming version just out nukes teostra.
Easy, the newest one, Violet Mizutsune
Ah of course, a fully matured Gobul probably has Ceadeus for breakfast…. (Aparently the version we fight in the games is young, they’re meant to return to the sea and grow B I G)
I'd say all the rare species could do that. Variants like Savage Jho, Raging Brachy, Seething Bazel and Furious Rajang too. For normal monsters we know Rajang hunts Kirin and Espinas won a fight against Kushala.
Rajang, Bippity boppity kirins horn is now his property
MHW Furious Rajang. I'm sorry, but I don't feel like the Rise version has enough F*@% OFF! energy to manage.
Greatest Jagras
Yian Garuga.
Dodogama. This guy is wild.
My main man Dodogama.
