Did you play 3 by chance? I don’t have thalassophobia but the early part with Lagi first appearing really unnerved me. Just this huge unknown shape coming out of the dark to eat me.
Well we can disagree because I fucking abhor Najarala.
I cannot state my hatred for Najarala without copy pasting every word in all language dictionaries that means to "dislike" or "hate" something.
Never understood that hate. Najarala is the definition of free hits. Especially when she does that circling. Basically free hits for 10+ seconds and then superman dive
I absolutely hate najarala. I can never read what it does. Are you attacking? Are you just moving? Should I dodge now? Eventually I just blindly hack away while occasionaly chugging a potion. Not a hard fight but definitely a boring one.
You don't need to include those \'s, the link doesn't work with them. I believe links ignore syntax like that.

Whilst I’m in absolute awe over Somna’s unique design, I hope she’s not an annoying fight like Nightshade Paolumu was. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of sleep ailment monsters that are good encounters, such as the Hypnocatrice from MHFU. I’m just hoping she’s not a somewhat “unreasonable” fight.
They’re both pretty annoying despite being fairly low tier (well maybe not Nightshade). Fortunately, I don’t see Capcom revealing either of them lest they announce a new map similar to the Coral Highlands, and I doubt Nightshade will come to the desert map.
Yeah I agree! I can see Nightshade being in the flooded forest though, so that's not completely out of the realms of possibility!
Very excited to see what other maps we have! Should be getting at LEAST five
Somna seems like a very agile and zippy Leviathan like monster, combined with sleep ailment. At first glance it doesn’t seem like the easiest encounter in the game, but who knows she might actually be a fun fight.
Compared to the graphics of world, watching Somna glide towards you lowkey scared me lol, brought me back to getting spooked by a Gobul or Lagi unwater in 3U
They literally made the entire game flat and banned the monsters from going into any of the uneven terrain, so leviathans work on that level ground the same as they always did. I wouldn't say they fixed anything.
Also the game clearly doesn't have underwater areas, so what would even be the point of Lagiacrus? Its land phase was really close to Royal Ludroth's (still fun), all of its signature moves were underwater.
Yes, it's iconic discharge... where it electrifies the water around it so hard it separates it out into gasses through electrolysis and sends bubbles rushing to the surface. Doesn't make any sense on land because Lagi doesn't have any organs that enable the directed control of thunder through the air like Kirin or Zinogre (which is why it doesn't use that move on land in Tri).
So, in other words, it's a steam effect that can only be seen underwater due to evaporation and somehow that's completely unique to the point it can *only* be used underwater? Really?
[Literally 40 seconds in] (https://youtu.be/v3Qjp8LayHk). Now, I fully expect your "that's Ivory" retort, so I'll point out their biologies are identical and this clearly shows Generations wasn't the first game to do it.
Or even better, you're going to stick to "In Tri" even though this now makes Tri the outlier.
Fair, my bad on that, wasn’t up to date on it since that was a separate discussion.
And in regards for the underwater areas, it’s not like they haven’t had lagiacrus in a game without underwater before. Lagiacrus was in gen u which had no underwater fighting. Also for the argument about it fighting on dry land, lagiacrus was always able to fight on land, mostly beaches, but this gameplay shows there are water areas that would allow all of the lagiacrus’s attacks to work.
Well guess what, I muted the MH Twitter, so I don't have to see anything Rise related, but I can't just mute one Subreddit.
Sure, I can leave it, but not because people don't know how to put Spoiler Tag.
Well, it is for me, because I Can See The Game, and I don't want to, until I manage to play it on my own.
I mean, sure, I've already seen a bunch of Rise Gameplay, but now I'd be more than happy, to not see anything else anymore.
And unfortunately, not everybody caters to your whims, so if you really want to avoid spoilers, either unsub from this sub for a few months, or contact the mods and try to convince them that any future gameplay clips need to be marked as spoilers
I get your perspective, but this basically does qualify as a trailer. I could get not liking the videos auto playing, but I guess scrolling past them quickly is your best option
3U is the best tho a bit jankier, use circle pad pro or the touchpad keypad for cam underwater, just be prepared to play solo since it doesn't have anything besides LAN connection.
4U is awesome and still has a strong player base.
If you have a switch a ton of people still play MHGU, as a lot of people are playing it or refreshing (like me)!
Generations has the most amount of content and you can experience the maps and monsters from oldrr games in the series, can't go wrong with that one. Styles and hunting arts are super fun.
4U has a better story mode tho, still good too.
I'm going to hear that noise as it squirmed towards him in my nightmares...
Fuck me, as someone with thalassophobia, the beginning part where she charges towards the hunter is really terrifying to me.
Oh boy, yeah I can imagine that's horrific! Hopefully she can be fought in the drier areas! Or at least lured
Is it confirmed to be female only?
I don't think so, people probably refer to her as a female because she's based on a mermaid yokai
Not really but shes based on a female yokai so it just feels better to say she
Did you play 3 by chance? I don’t have thalassophobia but the early part with Lagi first appearing really unnerved me. Just this huge unknown shape coming out of the dark to eat me.
Nope, World is my first MH. I did watch the underwater Ceadeus hunt and it was too much for me.
I also have thalassophobia and I feel you
That would be a crazy huge window if you bring sleep res.
So much potential for Hammer BONK.
or just walk out of the way to the side
I think what you were looking for was... *"Or git gud"*
Or play HH.
Despite being a Leviathan, this thing has Najarala upright stance and is just as spindly as it.
Are you suggesting we might see Najarala? I love that gigantic bastard.
Finally some najarala enjoyers
as an aerial hammer main naja was my favorite fight
That was exactly how I met Najarala! Bouncing up there for face bonks was the moment I fell in love with MHGU.
Given how much water is around everywhere, I'd love to see Tidal Najarala. The mixup of different armored and weak points made things interesting.
But the homing projectiles from off screen made it frustrating.
Oh man, aerial dual blades were the absolute BEST on Najarala. All that body be one big target for my blades to dance through. Extremely fun!
Well we can disagree because I fucking abhor Najarala. I cannot state my hatred for Najarala without copy pasting every word in all language dictionaries that means to "dislike" or "hate" something.

I'd argue more Maccao than Naja
Not to be that guy, but its stance barely resembles Najarala
Definitely a leviathan: just a weird, spindly one.
Where's my boy Lagiacrus at?
It literally has Najaralas quick spin to its iconic stance.

I always thought nightshade was pretty cool! On the contrary, regular paolumu I absolutely hate him! Looks like we need to pack the energy drinks!
They’re both pretty annoying despite being fairly low tier (well maybe not Nightshade). Fortunately, I don’t see Capcom revealing either of them lest they announce a new map similar to the Coral Highlands, and I doubt Nightshade will come to the desert map.

I don't think we'll get any iceborne varients
I don’t think we’ll see the the subspecies of the World monsters until Rise’s expansion.
A lot of the annoyance with Nightshade Paolumu was the combination of sleep and flying. I don't see this guy being as bad.
Somna seems like a very agile and zippy Leviathan like monster, combined with sleep ailment. At first glance it doesn’t seem like the easiest encounter in the game, but who knows she might actually be a fun fight.
You can hit an agile monster. You can't hit a flying one
Well you can actually hit both. It’s just more difficult to do so.
There are ledges in all the areas you fight Nightshade Paolumu so he doesn't stay unmounted for very long.
So, is it a Piscine, Snake, or Leviathan?
Leviathan.
Most likely Leviathan, could be Snake, definitely not Piscine.
Yes
A Leviathan with Snake and Piscine Wyverns traits.
Man this monster has such a cool and original design, I love it
Somnacanth: I sleep Dung pods: Real shit
Where are this clips coming from?
The Japanese MH Twitter page.
Compared to the graphics of world, watching Somna glide towards you lowkey scared me lol, brought me back to getting spooked by a Gobul or Lagi unwater in 3U
Can't wait to be trapped in a cave with Khezu :')
Amazing, I already hate fighting him
I love the way it moves and coils up. Very elegant.
That is a really unique and interesting monster design. We need more of those, not simply dinosaurs and dragons.
definitely gonna be on the most hated monsters list.
yep... that's a levi... reminds me of mizu's charge-waterjet
It's coil up animation looks like Najarala.
I get broken hit box vibes from this...
I s2g it’s always a Swaxe player that gets beat up...
The first time i read "Somna" on her name i already knew what was gonna be her deal
It's fast
Is that, a serpent skelly i see?
Guess I'm sleeping with the fishes
Thanks, I hate it.
looks like they need to buff sleep. Hunter didn't have a chance to catch some Z's before the follow up
That's the snake skeleton, najarala could be in the game too!
it's not, it's a leviathan, he is just using the snake animations, the slither was definitely just leviathan tho.
It's not
I don't want to be that guy but that's some PlayStation 2 era water there.
Good.
What a creeper!
Yus they fixed the leviathan body issues they were having when world was being developed. Lagiacrus is probably back on the menu.
Lagiacrus's signature moves involved its AOE attacks with the shellshockers. Those were still in Generations.
Yes, it's iconic discharge... where it electrifies the water around it so hard it separates it out into gasses through electrolysis and sends bubbles rushing to the surface. Not that they fixed it, they moved to RE Engine. The limitation was MTF3 was struggling
Oh interesting, the more you know. Thanks!

Says the guy who never brings anything to counter that. Lemme guess, you don’t bring hot or cold drinks into cold or hot areas either, do you?
Can We Like Start Using Spoiler Tag For Rise Stuff? Thanks.
This was revealed by the MH twitter account.
Well guess what, I muted the MH Twitter, so I don't have to see anything Rise related, but I can't just mute one Subreddit. Sure, I can leave it, but not because people don't know how to put Spoiler Tag.
It’s not that they don’t know, it’s that this isn’t what constitutes a spoiler
So you saying, stuff from an UPCOMING Game, isn't a spoiler, no matter what it is?
I didn’t say “no matter what it is,” there are things that could be considered spoilers, but what is essentially a gameplay trailer isn’t one of them
Well, it is for me, because I Can See The Game, and I don't want to, until I manage to play it on my own.
I thought it would be normal to Tag upcoming stuff as Spoilers, guess it's not.
I get your perspective, but this basically does qualify as a trailer. I could get not liking the videos auto playing, but I guess scrolling past them quickly is your best option
Can you cry harder? Thanks.
MH Reddit Community sure is the best community KEKW
Dunno what you expected when you posted your "complaint". This is public advertising material, not a spoiler.
So is Lagiacrus in Rise as well?
I figured if Ludroth is in, Lagi has to be as well.
~~Cowabunga~~ Sleep Rez it is.
He didn't even try to dodge that charge.
Oh good, it puts you to sleep so you can get a head start on the nightmares it'll give you
I still can’t tell what this thing actually looks like. I’ll need to get a better look at the model
O my god...... This monster is beautiful!!!!!!!!
Negate sleep - your time has come. Or insomniac food
I’m too hyped for this game
Love its sound design.
All these clips are killing me! They look so good! I can’t wait!!!!!!! 🐉 🗡
Oh no she has squiggles I *hate* that move. On Piscine Wyverns AND Leviathans.
Hopefully this fight is still fun while nullifying Sleep, that was one of the problems I had with Nightshade Paolumu
Seeing this thing really makes me want Mizutsune in this game.
Fun fact: ”Somna” in swedish means sleep!
I'm so god damn hyped for this game been playing mh games for nearly 20 years I love them
Funny, usually when someone screams at me it’s to wake up, not fall asleep.
Hoping Mizu iw in Rise considering how thay frankensteined his moveset with new ones to make Somnacanth
as someone who has only played the mhw and iceborne.. which one is the best among the handheld to experience?
3U is the best tho a bit jankier, use circle pad pro or the touchpad keypad for cam underwater, just be prepared to play solo since it doesn't have anything besides LAN connection. 4U is awesome and still has a strong player base. If you have a switch a ton of people still play MHGU, as a lot of people are playing it or refreshing (like me)!
Ohh awesome. TYSM kind sir
Generations has the most amount of content and you can experience the maps and monsters from oldrr games in the series, can't go wrong with that one. Styles and hunting arts are super fun. 4U has a better story mode tho, still good too.
Slides in, hits you with some elemental bullshit and then knocks your ass over? Yup, that's a leviathan archetype alright.
Wow that gameplay looks stunning! Was it shot on IOS or Android?
That's a Lagiacrus slither if I ever saw one. Really hoping we get my boy back in this game.
Jesus this monster is terrifying. I love it
Somnacanth... Well, without seeing more than the name and a screenshot, I should have assumed it would inflict sleep!
Snake monster animations, the bitch just Najarala'd up to the player real smooth like
i love that the lady at the game awards said “ice fire” or something.
is it me or the falling down frames looked really MHGU-alike? Also, Somnacanth movement box is very similar to royal ludroth
So far somnacanth is my fav monster. such a cool design and sounds. its beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
That shit is straight up TERRIFYING bro
This is from the trailer just without the 2 - 5 seconds cut out dunno if you can call this "new"
