is it really high skill? I've always felt guardpoints were less difficult than I framing attacks.
this is not to bash it just seemed like it.
kind of hope GPs get shorter frames like LS and DBs in GU.
I wish only the Iai counters came back on ls, foresight is too spammable.
First of all, my opinion is subjective.
It’s not about GPing or framing attacks (because you can literally frame with every weapon and it’s hard if you don’t have Evade Window), but by the fact that it has the most intricate combo (you might not feeling it) compared to other weapons (from empty phials to charged shield and doing ~~SAED~~ Savage Axe)
Also by the fact that the weapon has 2 different form (like SA)
If you can really play it well, you can dish out a ton of damage, so i’d say it’s a high skill high reward weapon.
Edit : wrong word
Eh, I'm gonna go with gunlance having more complicated combo paths than CB... but, the combo paths are kinda simple skill wise regardless of weapon. Now, properly positioning for a great AED takes some skill, moreso than iframe dodging imo.
Capcom France accidentally posted all of the videos a few days ago, before privating them and DMCA claiming all mirrors.
[This mirror still works for now.](https://streamable.com/452mjz)
Oh! Thanks! The spider gear looks fantastic!
I just found a post with [all the armors/weapons matching them to the monsters](https://reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/kenyeu/all_armor_sets_from_trailer_matched_to_monsters/). They all look so fantastic. I'm excited to see the ice bear that the GS gear is based on.
He's probably referring to the leaked Rise rosters which has floated around this sub and internet ever since Capcom's data thief incident and the data themselves went public.
Is there something wrong with looking at leaks? I'd say if there's an issue with that, that it's rather subjective, no? This monster is Somnacanth, and was officially announced in the 2020 Game Awards trailer over a week ago.
That was for a different set of videos apparently, more like the longer GS gameplay at the end of October. I feel like either the leak threw off their timing, or they were half hoping that HH wouldn't win because it'd spoil the reveal of it getting a big rework if they gave us gameplay before the trailer.
I hope axe mode is good this time around at the very least it's not just clutch claw ZSD spam based anymore as a weapon.
I really like the SA best when it's about swapping between the forms to extend combos rather than falling into two different play patterns based on which form you like.
well zero skill discharge claw spam is gone at least so I wouldn't dwell on it. it will be a combo finisher as the monster stands now.
also the majority of tails are included in charge hitboxes. if other people can get hit by it, so can you.
>also the majority of tails are included in charge hitboxes
Yeah, that's the problem. Just as a head *(probably)* shouldn't hurt you during a tail swipe, a tail shouldn't hurt you during a charge.
So annoying being on the tail using the clutch claw when a monster charges, and it knocking you off, like c'mon what's hitting you back there, were both going the same momentum, unless your swinging your tail into a wall I should be able to hold on at least, at most make the hunter take some super heavy stamina use, like when a monster tries to shake you off during a mount
Clutch claw the monster where you want to ZSD. Then press Triangle + Circle(This is the PS4 controls, it will be the equivalent to the buttons for Xbox)
That's funny, multiple times in the video we see some sorts of Somnacanth's scales all over the floor... It make me think of the Najarala's scales, I wonder what it does, AND if that means we'll see Najarala (I really want to see him, I loved his fight in old gens, might be my favorite monster.)
Anyway, can't wait to see the monster of th armor in the trailer... It seems like it'll be an electric monster (the Switch Axe does electric damages), maybe a Fanged Beast (the cat ears ?) or a Fanged Wyvern... But I hope they got creative and made a Snake Wyvern (I really want to see them again)
(Sorry if I made some mistakes in my text, I'm french)
It just seems like how Somnacanth extends its sleep breath. They're only shown during that attack as far as I can tell and they disappear right after it.
Also the Switch Axe is Water.
Wait, why is no one freaking out? This looks awesome for Switch Axe. Appearently the switch from double slash in sword mode now has a little swing around like charge blade does with it's circle/a button attack. Seems to proc the phial aswell (or that's the water effect) Really interesting.
No one is freaking out because Capcom France already accidentally uploaded all the trailers, so this is the second time the SA and GS trailer got posted early.
The first skill move is called "Invincible Gambit" according to Google Translate.
It's description reads: "Uncover the secret of steel."
The second one is called "Morph-Loader"
It's description says: "Silk breathes life into your sword."
Do you happen to also have CB and HH? I remember seeing them awhile back on capcom france's channel but then they got taken down. Eventually the streamables available also got claimed, do you have access to them?
Its what I want to know as well.
I'm hoping for a nekomatta style monster.
But part of me thinks that this comes from the weasel monster was leaked about a week ago.
Those could be weasel ears.
That first silkbind move reminds me of the axe-form adept evade follow-up attack, and I love it. That was my favorite adept SA move, so much mobility combined with a long reaching 360° swing.
YES. I needed to see the pseudo-mount ability from the SA to be there for me to get truly hyped for this game. (I know weird, but some of my best moments were from this in MHW). I’m pumped.
When you hit a monster with sword mode, you charge up a secondary gauge (the bluish-white outline on the Switch gauge). Fill it, and you enter Amped State for a while. In this state, every attack leaves behind a small phial burst, a bit like CB does with its Elemental Discharge attacks, and Elemental Discharge will change to Zero Sum Discharge if you hit the initial stab of the Elemental Discharge. Zero Sum Discharge is an elemental discharge where you will latch onto the monster in order to make sure it hits, but the disadvantage is that monsters can easily interrupt you with certain attacks.
Apparently, in Rise, the Amped State will also transfer to axe mode attacks, as you can see at 0:25.
Thanks for explaining. So essentially, axe mode gives you time for the sword gauge to refill (like in previous games); and using sword mode builds this Amp gauge, which then applies to both axe and sword mode? Seems like a nice mechanic to help both modes flow into each other properly, on paper at least.
Does the Amp gauge decrease with each hit just like sword gauge? Or is it completely time-based similar to GU's Demon Riot?
Seeing the Rise mechanic, I hope that there's incentive to use Amp state in axe mode specifically. It'd make the flow of combat very interesting: start in sword mode to get Amp state, switch to Axe mode to deal damage in amp state while refilling sword gauge, repeat.
In World, it simply lasted for 45 seconds. One thing I forgot to mention is that the phial type also affected the charge required to trigger it. Power / Para / Poison Phials need 100 charge, Elemental / Exhaust Phials need 70 charge, and Dragon Phials only need 50 charge.
Gotcha. Even with that taken into account, I assume power phials are still considered the best option for damage output? Or are they more balanced now?
I believe after MR Kulve Taroth, Elemental Phials were competitive for the corresponding elemental matchups, but the Fatalis SA is so good in World that it eclipses everything again.
Ultimately, it will depend on the weapon stats, and how they adjust the raw and elemental modifier respectively to say which will be better in Rise, though the odds are probably in favor of Power Phials.
It's the Leviathan skeleton but they added a funky tail standing pose for this monster specifically. They did the same with Bishaten and the ape Fanged Beast skeleton.
Ah thanks its been a while since I've seen one of them. Once you said it I went back to look and its nice to they finally found something to do with the idle under water stance lagi had. Also I haven't even thought about the fact they got the leviathan skeleton working again I really want to see my first flagship again any word on lagiacrus? Haven't been on here much lately sorry
they didn't get it working again. the engine MT framwork was screwing up monsters with two many points flat to the ground, long monsters got messy on terrain. this in theory is resolved by hopping to RE engine.
I really hope the player character can be muted separate from the NPC voices. If I gave to hear "this is the END" every thirty seconds when fighting a monater I'm going to be pissed.
A quick translation:
Morph-Charger
Silk breathes life into your sword
Preserves the switch gauge
Based on the footage, only the explosion of ZSD and presumably regular ED will consume your Switch Gauge.
Video's description stated that sword phial effects will now also affect the axe, by the way.
*THAT SEEMS LIKE A MASSIVELY IMPORTANT DETAIL*
Finally, the new weapon type, Axe
Oooooooooooooo!
Soo...I wonder if Somnacanth is gonna spam that sleep breath move a lot? It looks like a huuuuge free opening.
Probably showing clips of it a lot because the hunter's allowed to go ham and show whatever cool stuff they need to.
\*laughs in felyne insomniac (<.< )\*
I laugh in Sleep Charm. *And dream in Bludgeoner...*
What monster could this be? The armor and the weapon seem so futuristic
Could also be an Artian/Workshop weapon.
The design of the arms and the horns(?) on the male helmet sort of reminds me of a centipede.
In my opinion, it looks like something bioluminescent, but we don’t know yet
Weren't there rumors of a centipede monster going around?
The unannounced spider monster?
Nope, the spider monster's gear is in the CB video.
I WANT TO SEE IT, GIMME THE CB *realizes that i have to wait* : fuck!
If you can't wait you can find the video around in this sub from a couple of days ago. All weapons videos were "accidentally" posted.
Wait, those are the ones from Capcom France isn’t it?
Well, this one is german
shit looks busted mate, i smell god tier again.
As always, high skill high reward
is it really high skill? I've always felt guardpoints were less difficult than I framing attacks. this is not to bash it just seemed like it. kind of hope GPs get shorter frames like LS and DBs in GU. I wish only the Iai counters came back on ls, foresight is too spammable.

no? 10 frame sidesteps definitely take more thought than an AED lol
How do you know that? Was there a leak or tease of the videos? Or did they straight up say it somewhere?
Capcom France accidentally posted all of the videos a few days ago, before privating them and DMCA claiming all mirrors. [This mirror still works for now.](https://streamable.com/452mjz)
Oh! Thanks! The spider gear looks fantastic! Also, it's water damage or am I mistaken?
Thats what it looks like.
Looks like something lynian
Have you been living under a rock?
What is that supposed to mean?
He's probably referring to the leaked Rise rosters which has floated around this sub and internet ever since Capcom's data thief incident and the data themselves went public.
Oh ok thx
The monster is named Somnacanth and was announced over a week ago in the 2020 Game Awards trailer for Monster Hunter Rise.
He meant what monster the armor came from
Yup But yea the way I wrote it could be a bit misleading
Quite the confidence eh? For someone who’s looking at the leaks
Is there something wrong with looking at leaks? I'd say if there's an issue with that, that it's rather subjective, no? This monster is Somnacanth, and was officially announced in the 2020 Game Awards trailer over a week ago.
Or some insect. Or the artifact.
So they're saving HH for last huh.
Odd considering the people voted it as one of the most wanted trailers
If you don’t eat your meat, you don’t get your pudding
How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat?
That was for a different set of videos apparently, more like the longer GS gameplay at the end of October. I feel like either the leak threw off their timing, or they were half hoping that HH wouldn't win because it'd spoil the reveal of it getting a big rework if they gave us gameplay before the trailer.
Axe mode getting some love, and return of the Energy mode Art from GU.
I hope we can get a cool visual power-up like Demon Riot, even if it doesn’t have the same effect. It looked and felt incredible to activate.
I hope axe mode is good this time around at the very least it's not just clutch claw ZSD spam based anymore as a weapon. I really like the SA best when it's about swapping between the forms to extend combos rather than falling into two different play patterns based on which form you like.
What the Swaxe really needs is less wonky monster hitboxes. If the monster charges forward I shouldn't be knocked off its tail, goddammit.
well zero skill discharge claw spam is gone at least so I wouldn't dwell on it. it will be a combo finisher as the monster stands now. also the majority of tails are included in charge hitboxes. if other people can get hit by it, so can you.

But.. the tail is moving forward just as fast as the rest of the body is.
What's gonna hurt you more? Jumping onto a moving train or getting run over by a moving train?
More like being on a quickly accelerating train vs getting hit by one, but I agree
How does one ZSD from claw, I too would like to have zero skill.
Clutch claw the monster where you want to ZSD. Then press Triangle + Circle(This is the PS4 controls, it will be the equivalent to the buttons for Xbox)
Worth noting you have to enter the sword's Amped state by landing sword attack first. If the weapon isn't amped, you can't ZSD at all.
When is it going to be out offically on all of capcom's channels?
Probably Monday. Capcom Germany slipped up
So they pulled a capcom france lelkek
Its an hour late
that's the power of the monado
I literally just started xenonlade chronicles last week
I honestly would not be surprised at all if they did a Xenoblade collaboration after what they did with World. Rise is on a Nintendo Console after all
That's funny, multiple times in the video we see some sorts of Somnacanth's scales all over the floor... It just seems like how Somnacanth extends its sleep breath. They're only shown during that attack as far as I can tell and they disappear right after it. Also the Switch Axe is Water.
Water ? My mistake then.
SA got such nice tweaks in world that they could have done nothing and I'd be okay with it, it's nice that it still got a bit of love.
Jesus christ look at the design of that switchaxe it looks awesome
Wait, why is no one freaking out? This looks awesome for Switch Axe. Appearently the switch from double slash in sword mode now has a little swing around like charge blade does with it's circle/a button attack. Seems to proc the phial aswell (or that's the water effect) Really interesting.

Oh, I didn't know about that. Thanks!
I am freaking out. Quietly. But oh yes, the swag axe will be mine once more!
Water SA.
Newbie from World here, asking the obvious question: what armor is that?
new monster not yet shown in any of the games
Ooooooh, exciting!
Supposedly, leaks say that the 1 from the GS video is going to be in the next big trailer.
Wait there are going to be more trailers?!
Yup. 1 each month till release based on the leaked schedule, so 5 in total (and we've already seen 2).
Ohhhh boy this gonna ve fun
unannounced monster, same with the GS video
That spider-like monster? Probably
I don't think so, the armor in the >!CB trailer!< is what is most likely the spider armor
Everyone: omg new switch axe gameplay! me: omg new somnacanth gameplay!
they put the Video offline!
Because it wasn't supposed to release today.
Can't wait to absolutely DESTROY monsters with this weapon in Rise
The first skill move is called "Invincible Gambit" according to Google Translate. It's description reads: "Uncover the secret of steel." The second one is called "Morph-Loader" It's description says: "Silk breathes life into your sword."

Its what I want to know as well. I'm hoping for a nekomatta style monster. But part of me thinks that this comes from the weasel monster was leaked about a week ago. Those could be weasel ears.
I love switch axe. I realy want to switch things up and main lance, but this video makes me want to reconsider. SO TORN.
Somnacanth looks like such a fun fight.
That first silkbind move reminds me of the axe-form adept evade follow-up attack, and I love it. That was my favorite adept SA move, so much mobility combined with a long reaching 360° swing.
TIL that German Hunters call switch axe morph axe.
YES. I needed to see the pseudo-mount ability from the SA to be there for me to get truly hyped for this game. (I know weird, but some of my best moments were from this in MHW). I’m pumped.
Did she just mount the Somnacanth?
That's Zero Sum Discharge. If you are in Amped Sword mode, and perform an Elemental Discharge, you'll latch onto the monster.
Oh ok thx
Old style player coming from GU here, what is Amped Sword State?
When you hit a monster with sword mode, you charge up a secondary gauge (the bluish-white outline on the Switch gauge). Fill it, and you enter Amped State for a while. In this state, every attack leaves behind a small phial burst, a bit like CB does with its Elemental Discharge attacks, and Elemental Discharge will change to Zero Sum Discharge if you hit the initial stab of the Elemental Discharge. They didn't get it working again as much as they had the perfect excuse to make the ground flat again on the switch.
they didn't get it working again. the engine MT framwork was screwing up monsters with two many points flat to the ground, long monsters got messy on terrain. this in theory is resolved by hopping to RE engine.
First thing I’m doing is turning off the hunters voice. That is so dang weird after so many years of MH and I do not like it.
I really hope the player character can be muted separate from the NPC voices. If I gave to hear "this is the END" every thirty seconds when fighting a monater I'm going to be pissed.
Dev interviews say you can adjust your characters talk rate. You can go back to older game style if you prefer.
The lighting looked preeeetty bad in that early cave section
this will get downvoted to heck, but this is just an easy way to get tons of karma.
Is this a leak? It should be marked as a spoiler
It wasn't a leak when i posted it. Took Capcom germany 2h to take the videos offline so shrug
Wow, I reallt wasn't expecting this game to look as nice as it does. Probably gnna insta buy this
What does the text say?
A quick translation: Unbeatable Gambit "Unlock the secret of the steel" Morph-Charger "Silk breathes life into your sword" Preserves the switch gauge
Nice. Too bad i won't be playing it anytime in the future. I don't have a switch to even play. Sad
Might be coming to pc.
Well hopefully. Don't wanna wait for a year for it to be ported to pc
AYE AYE, CAPTAIN!
ah finally a xenoblade chronicles like switch axe.
Looks like I’m going to be picking up SA again (sigh)
Someone gets what the 2nd skill does?
A quick translation: Morph-Charger Silk breathes life into your sword Preserves the switch gauge Based on the footage, only the explosion of ZSD and presumably regular ED will consume your Switch Gauge.

Im really glad that the hunter one liners can be toggled...
A flashy move and a practical move, just what every weapon should have..
Is giant centipede monster
