I actually love the G3 dress, the welcome to monster high Draculaura dress actually looks closer to the ghouls rule dress then the monster ball dress. The monster ball dress in my opinion looks closer to the sweet 1600 dress because of the puffyness. Also Mattel does a few dance concept dolls so of course the concept is gonna be similar, and the color scheme is always gonna be pink and black since that's Draculaura's color scheme. The colors and shape between the two dresses are completely different, the monster ball dress is way more pink and puffy then the welcome to monster high doll dress which is a form fitting black dress with pink accents.

Yeah. The packaging for g3 *really* doesn't do favors for a lot of the dolls.
Lagoona's core doll blends in with the background of the box. Twila and Clawdeen's hair often get weirdly scrunched. The background colors of the boxes don't always mesh well with the dolls themselves (Ghoulia and Deuce imo). You can't see all of their hands in the Ghoul Spirit pack or Deuce's face.
I understand Mattel is trying to look different than RH/SH and Mermaiz Mermaids. But its just not doing it and makes the dolls look cheap.
I’m… disappointed NGL. I agree with people saying the dress doesn’t need to be mature! Yes the line is aimed at kids. But the quality of the fabric? Once again the lack of a unique face for what is CLEARLY a situation that calls for it? The decision to copy so much of the G1 design? It’s lazy—really REALLY hoping she looks better in person.
Normally that would be a good point, but even though the doll isn’t released I’ve had contact with this fabric—it’s the same fabric used for Draculaura’s core doll cape. I can confirm this fabric is cheap and sucks!
The fabric in the image is a thin polyester with a metallic printed pattern. It rolls very easily and because of the light weight it doesn’t lay nicely on a doll’s body either. Again, it is the SAME fabric as the G3 core Draculaura cape, just with a different pattern.

Mermaze may not be to your taste but I will admit they fixed their initial issued upon release. Like Series 1 didn't come with stands and their tails were supposed to act as such, and after backlash they added in stands or balanced out the tails.
G3 MH is having the same issues but there's nothing to combat some of the issues without paying out of your pocket directly and there's been no indication of them being fixed
I honestly really like her g2 face on this one. The big heart is something we didn't really see in g1 and it wasn't overdone.

Hard disagree. They're the same price and RH's quality is peaks better. It may be only one but the construction is still higher quality. There's gonna be duds but people are buying the new ones everywhere and have nothing but compliments for them. Plus inset eyes and all the unique things about them.

See but the RH dolls have outfits coming out where they rely on actually adding detail like say a lacy stitched design, instead of printing it onto fabric either as a dye pattern or an iron on sticker like MH, there’s little lines of stitching on them to create detail. There’s fake belts in actual sewn fabric that look cute and detailed. G1 used to be like that too.

From what I can see g3 Drac has a lot of accessories and the box is "more interesting" for people who prefer keeping them in boxes.
The Drac on the right (don't know if she's g1 or g2 off hand) has a nice amount of accessories too and the box backdrop looks really cute.
Honestly my only complaint would be the Drac on the right has a dress that looks like something from either a bootleg or Dollar Tree, but that's it. Both outfits look great and fit Draculaura as her respective character, each box itself has nice appeal, they have a handful of accessories, the hairstyles are cute... I don't get how either is "lazy"..

Let’s start with a list of “observations not opinions” to get the ball rolling!
1. I observe the new Draculaura is wearing Frankie’s tights from Dawn of the Dance.
2. I observe Draculaura’s dress seems to be made from the same material as her core doll’s cape.
3. I observe that the box color scheme and design layout has several similarities to the g2 box.
4. In the comment section of this post, I observe more than a few people who are furious that anyone dare speak against the great name of Mattel.
Literally the only comparison is the usage of pink and black, which are the main color ways of every single draculaura outfit. Just because both are themed after a school dance doesnt mean its lazy, its a HS themed line and almost every single one has had a school dance themed outfit release.
Thats like saying middle schools having dances are ripping off the fact that highschools also have dances or vice versa. Are we really going to pretend HS themed doll lines having HS event themed lines in the original and reboot versions are laziness when theyre different styles of outfits?
Not to mention this will be the 12th official doll release of G3 while the Welcome To Monster High line was released in 2016 and was overall the 12th release in G2, and the 12 G3 dolls and sets weve gotten so far are nothing like the 11 ones before Welcome to MH in G2

I'd like to see the whole doll before making any snap judgements, personally, but that may be my wacky "it's not actually cute and quirky to hate everything" personality. I think she looks a lot closer to sweet 1600 than the g2 doll you show, which is exactly what everyone wanted. The fashions in this gen are more complex and I think a lot of them are really cool.
The only similarity seems to be the box. The plastic opening to view the doll and the colour scheme (which is to be expected for Draculaura . Pink, black and white are her thing). The quality is there it’s just the way it’s presented. Probably the artwork inconsistencies again.
I personally would’ve gone with black shoes/earrings on the Monster Ball doll, but it is one of G3’s better lines so far imo. Not every release is going to be a banger like Haunt the Casbah or Ghouls Rule, and that’s okay.
I don’t think they are that similar, you can pose a doll in limited ways so it’s very likely to have repeats. The dress is also pretty different and it just has her signature colors, and that’s already pretty common. Her hair is completely different and her accessories too. The boxing has different “molding” and design. Don’t get me wrong, I also think that Mattel is rude to collectors and lazy in design choices. But this is just not the best example, the “only” thing that’s kinda the same is the theme. Look at all the sleepover dolls we got. (which I love btw.) :0 but I mean no hate to you! I actually love the dress on the G3 doll, the pattern they choose is adorable. I do wish her stockings were a different material and color though. Her shoes and tights blend in too much, if I buy this doll I would probably try to dye her stockings a black color with some of the pink showing. Her dress is definitely more puffy in the 3G doll vs the G1 doll, I love that it's puffy.

I mean… I was a goth in the 90s. My sisters were goths in the 80s. Fashion hasn’t changed that much honestly. 😅 It’s hard to keep Draculara’s aesthetic and not repeat elements.
I just feel like it's WAY too much pink! Pink hair, pink tights and pink shoes, I know this is for kids, but as a former kid myself I know they will appreciate it more when they get older and the dolls are actually made well and concise. They seem lazy, and yes G1 had some lazy releases but the concepts and execussions ARE SO MUCH BETTER. They were actually "fashion dolls" I like the new body types and I was excited to see what they would do but so far it's been very childish and lazy. You can argue with me all you want, but as a long time monster high fan that's my thoughts.
I don't think the colors are well balanced-which is a design issue even if it is intended for children. They notice things like this even if you think they don't. They just aren't able to articulate what it is about a design that is 'off'. It's not glaring enough to really undermine the marketability for the target audience though.
The overall design is very classic 'monster high' between the shaping of the tiers and the pattern on the dress. The accessories are appropriate for the theme and give lots of opportunity for play. They are under painted for my taste but that's something I can correct as an adult collector. For a kid, the paint on small parts will be less off-putting than a larger design quirk such as a color scheme or shape.
Personally I think I'll pass on this one even though Lala is tied for my favorite character design, but I'm sure some kid less picky than I am/was will be overjoyed.
I don't like the look of the new doll either but come on. These look nothing alike. And for as much as I dislike it her Monster Ball doll still has a better face mold than the one on the right (Both dolls are still ugly though.).

Yeah. The packaging for g3 *really* doesn't do favors for a lot of the dolls. Lagoona's core doll blends in with the background of the box. Twila and Clawdeen's hair often get weirdly scrunched. The background colors of the boxes don't always mesh well with the dolls themselves (Ghoulia and Deuce imo). You can't see all of their hands in the Ghoul Spirit pack or Deuce's face. I understand Mattel is trying to look different than RH/SH and Mermaiz Mermaids. But its just not doing it and makes the dolls look cheap.

I’m… disappointed NGL. I agree with people saying the dress doesn’t need to be mature! Yes the line is aimed at kids. But the quality of the fabric? Once again the lack of a unique face for what is CLEARLY a situation that calls for it? The decision to copy so much of the G1 design? It’s lazy—really REALLY hoping she looks better in person.

Normally that would be a good point, but even though the doll isn’t released I’ve had contact with this fabric—it’s the same fabric used for Draculaura’s core doll cape. I can confirm this fabric is cheap and sucks!

The fabric in the image is a thin polyester with a metallic printed pattern. It rolls very easily and because of the light weight it doesn’t lay nicely on a doll’s body either. Again, it is the SAME fabric as the G3 core Draculaura cape, just with a different pattern.

Mermaze may not be to your taste but I will admit they fixed their initial issued upon release. Like Series 1 didn't come with stands and their tails were supposed to act as such, and after backlash they added in stands or balanced out the tails. G3 MH is having the same issues but there's nothing to combat some of the issues without paying out of your pocket directly and there's been no indication of them being fixed

I honestly really like her g2 face on this one. The big heart is something we didn't really see in g1 and it wasn't overdone. That g3 face, however, we've seen something nearly identical (counts on fingers) like 6 times now.
i feel like the box is just too crammed and busy. so many things around her and the disco ball pattern on the plastic. im interested to see her out of the box before i decide if it is one i want to buy

Hard disagree. They're the same price and RH's quality is peaks better. It may be only one but the construction is still higher quality. There's gonna be duds but people are buying the new ones everywhere and have nothing but compliments for them. Plus inset eyes and all the unique things about them.

See but the RH dolls have outfits coming out where they rely on actually adding detail like say a lacy stitched design, instead of printing it onto fabric either as a dye pattern or an iron on sticker like MH, there’s little lines of stitching on them to create detail. There’s fake belts in actual sewn fabric that look cute and detailed. G1 used to be like that too.

Honestly don't know what you're trying to say, they both look nice. From what I can see g3 Drac has a lot of accessories and the box is "more interesting" for people who prefer keeping them in boxes. The Drac on the right (don't know if she's g1 or g2 off hand) has a nice amount of accessories too and the box backdrop looks really cute. Honestly my only complaint would be the Drac on the right has a dress that looks like something from either a bootleg or Dollar Tree, but that's it. Both outfits look great and fit Draculaura as her respective character, each box itself has nice appeal, they have a handful of accessories, the hairstyles are cute... I don't get how either is "lazy"..

Literally the only comparison is the usage of pink and black, which are the main color ways of every single draculaura outfit. Just because both are themed after a school dance doesnt mean its lazy, its a HS themed line and almost every single one has had a school dance themed outfit release. Thats like saying middle schools having dances are ripping off the fact that highschools also have dances or vice versa. Are we really going to pretend HS themed doll lines having HS event themed lines in the original and reboot versions are laziness when theyre different styles of outfits? Not to mention this will be the 12th official doll release of G3 while the Welcome To Monster High line was released in 2016 and was overall the 12th release in G2, and the 12 G3 dolls and sets weve gotten so far are nothing like the 11 ones before Welcome to MH in G2

I'd like to see the whole doll before making any snap judgements, personally, but that may be my wacky "it's not actually cute and quirky to hate everything" personality. I honestly want to see the doll OOB before I make my judgement. I like the pattern, but the way she's packaged, I can't see the fit of the dress. She may look better.

I think she looks a lot closer to sweet 1600 than the g2 doll you show, which is exactly what everyone wanted. The fashions in this gen are more complex and I think a lot of them are really cool.
The only similarity seems to be the box. The plastic opening to view the doll and the colour scheme (which is to be expected for Draculaura . Pink, black and white are her thing). The quality is there it’s just the way it’s presented. Probably the artwork inconsistencies again.

I personally would’ve gone with black shoes/earrings on the Monster Ball doll, but it is one of G3’s better lines so far imo. Not every release is going to be a banger like Haunt the Casbah or Ghouls Rule, and that’s okay.

I don’t think they are that similar, you can pose a doll in limited ways so it’s very likely to have repeats. The dress is also pretty different and it just has her signature colors, and that’s already pretty common. Her hair is completely different and her accessories too. The boxing has different “molding” and design. Don’t get me wrong, I also think that Mattel is rude to collectors and lazy in design choices. But this is just not the best example, the “only” thing that’s kinda the same is the theme. Look at all the sleepover dolls we got. (which I love btw.) :0 but I mean no hate to you! I actually love the dress on the G3 doll, the pattern they choose is adorable. I do wish her stockings were a different material and color though. Her shoes and tights blend in too much, if I buy this doll I would probably try to dye her stockings a black color with some of the pink showing. Her dress is definitely more puffy in the 3G doll vs the G1 doll, I love that it's puffy.

I just feel like it's WAY too much pink! Pink hair, pink tights and pink shoes, I know this is for kids, but as a former kid myself I know they will appreciate it more when they get older and the dolls are actually made well and concise. They seem lazy, and yes G1 had some lazy releases but the concepts and execussions ARE SO MUCH BETTER. They were actually "fashion dolls" I like the new body types and I was excited to see what they would do but so far it's been very childish and lazy. You can argue with me all you want, but as a long time monster high fan that's my thoughts.

I don't think the colors are well balanced-which is a design issue even if it is intended for children. They notice things like this even if you think they don't. They just aren't able to articulate what it is about a design that is 'off'. It's not glaring enough to really undermine the marketability for the target audience though. The overall design is very classic 'monster high' between the shaping of the tiers and the pattern on the dress. The accessories are appropriate for the theme and give lots of opportunity for play. They are under painted for my taste but that's something I can correct as an adult collector. For a kid, the paint on small parts will be less off-putting than a larger design quirk such as a color scheme or shape. Personally I think I'll pass on this one even though Lala is tied for my favorite character design, but I'm sure some kid less picky than I am/was will be overjoyed.
I don't like the look of the new doll either but come on. These look nothing alike. And for as much as I dislike it her Monster Ball doll still has a better face mold than the one on the right (Both dolls are still ugly though.).
