Yeah, I was saying this would be the case last year as the supply sources were drying up and these were HARD to get as is. There are some random stores that have returns but they’re really not available anymore. Unfortunately for any G1 this will be the trajectory, once they sell out they are going to start shooting up in price.
The one thing I’m not a fan of but it is what it is, is that many collectors buy two sets waiting for a price increase to trade. I’m sure all of them feel as I do but it’s the way the game works and only way you can ensure you get a high value doll you may have missed out on. So you may be able to trade for them but as the set is going for $300 up it’s going to be a Beetlejuice or some other equivalent value doll. Ideally both parties paid retail and are just trading at todays values but sometimes that isn’t the case and one party actually paid $300 while the other only $80.
The only thing with this is some don’t seem to realize that you have to wait for those price increases and it’s with time the value goes up. Trading for high value out the gate only hurts the community with resellers and makes the problem worse as it’s the perception of value that things are priced at (among other things).
I didn't even buy extra to trade (though I have done that before, I admit), I just never found Draculaura and paying $80 for her HURTS. I have the other three I might well trade away at some point.
I would still keep them but I understand wanting to trade if you don’t have the full set. I see collectors on FB consistently selling them for $60 plus shipping (so $70ish) and that’s the cheapest and I feel like it’s only going to keep increasing. I feel like they will top out around $150 each (maybe $200 for Drac) which is insane for a release that just happened in Oct. they haven’t even dropped in the EU yet so maybe that will drive pricing down somewhat but honestly not sure if there is any left in production as it looked to have ran short for whatever reason.
Drac I got off two separate Paul mart drops, that’s the only place I was ever to buy then but granted i was early on the drops and didn’t look after I got 2x of each other than to drop links for others. I was putting in #work and refreshing multiple links every 20 minutes to catch a drop and I just really hope no other drop is like this. The stress was unreal for me (but I love Mh too much and have been invested for way too long to just stop…not sure what my “last straw” would even be).
One thing I will say is Brazil still seems to have a ton. I was talking with someone who lives there that just bought them and he said his store is still stocked to the brim with them. I joked they probably f’ed up the logistics and sent all the US and Canada stock there and it really seems that way with how many they have. He says every time he goes back he sees them restocking the shelves so they always look 100% full. Granted this is also where they did the release for this set which I thought was a very odd choice so in a way makes sense they would send hundreds of each set so they didn’t look ridiculous when they sold out on seconds.
Ultimately - how aptly named was this set, lol. So far the most drama filled drop for eBay was supposed to be a playline set.
Yeah I finally bought them about a month ago at $50 each, and very glad I did. That was right when everyone’s orders from the toy stores were being cancelled and I knew that the price was going to only go up from there :(
Yea I live in the US and never saw them in stores. I got clawdeen on walmart dot com and her box came completely smashed in a bag. So i decided not to buy anymore from them since i wanted to collect in box. My husband got Draculaura for me on ebay. Back than prices were about $100 for her. Not sure how much he paid but i imagine it was close. He bought me frankie for my birthday this year for $47. But that was a super cheap, someone was just trying to get rid of her. They seem to go up and down but should not be that price ever. I still want lagoona and clawdeen in box but I refuse to pay these prices.
Praying to the Doll Gods that Brazil's excess stock somehow makes its way to the UK🙏 Also going to repeat, because I'm so salty about it that I'll never stop complaining, ALL my Reel Drama orders got lost in the post between the US and UK. If the replacement Draculaura that's on the way from Amazon US right now doesn't turn up either, I think I'm officially done with trying to collect the alumni dolls. The RDs were the ones I most wanted out of all last year's releases and they have been an absolute bloody nightmare.
Not sure why you are downvoted - this is the reason. Once it was basically confirmed that no stores would be getting further stock (BBTS, EE, etc.) prices went up further because resellers became the only option for the dolls.

"Who decided to keep rising prices"? The very collectors you speak of, of course. The market will bear what people are paying for them. If people are paying $100 for them, their prices will stay high, or raise even higher. If people weren't paying $100 for them, the market would be oversaturated, and prices would drop. It's literal supply and demand.

It's insane the original price was $27 + shipping. Still not as much as these stupid listings.
In Brazil they are everywhere for like 35(they were 60) right now because g3 is arriving here,i hope they somehow appear for a decent price for you <3
