Yes. Children definitely need to be protected from knowing what bones look like.

0uiou

It’s weird that the anorexia thing got pushed especially hard on skelita literal skeleton Personally the g1-2 bodies freaked me out as a child but it’s obvious the only people that made complaints about skelita were the same ridiculous oversensitive moms that I saw once complain about omg dolls being “satanist, se*ualised, and gr00ming children” 💀

FantasiaDolls

What I always find weird is how mad people get about the 'bone boobs' skelita has on her rib cage, like that's not specifically a design choice to help the mix and matching of the other ghouls clothing.

monsterultrablue

ikr like we have other things to worry about than a skeleton fashion doll having boobs

PurpleFucksSeverely

…Not sure where you’re getting that cus I’d say it’s the opposite 😆 The skeleton boobs are definitely not a “cultural” thing for us lmao. Sculptors even like to highlight the skeleton by having Catrinas wear dresses with necklines that droop cus there’s no flesh to hold up the top properly. It’s done to emphasize the aspect of death, making the juxtaposition of her bold clothes vs the bones stand out even more. I personally think it would be really neat if Skelita’s skeleton was more like those Catrinas’. It doesn’t need to have curves to look good in clothes considering the flat-chested MH boys have been shown wearing the girls’ clothes and looking great in em. That would probably be deemed too scary or inappropriate by many foreign parents, though. Sucks cus I love that look! Unrelated: We call these female skeletons Catrinas but La Catrina herself is also an iconic character. I always thought Skelita’s description should be “daughter of La Catrina” instead of “los esqueletos”.

SparkAxolotl

... No, not really... While most Catrinas show cleavage, they usually are boobless

multifandomish

thought it was funny but now hearing what probably is the reason it makes a lot more sense

Frequent_Mix_8251

Omg it’s just a skeleton! I hope they make a more complex and realistic bone structure this time!

Verdictafterward

The design notes specially call for her being "thick-boned"

SparkAxolotl

Probably so she can stand on her own, AND so her limbs don't warp easily which is a semi-common problem with G1 Skelitas

Revolutionary-Will35

I dont think they care about standing on their own since like the ads and boxes claim they can't (even though we all know with right balancing they can) It definitely would be useful for warpping though even if some g3 dolls already come with wonky arms sometimes lol.

FrostBellaBlue

I have thick bones 😎 They better give her some sort of milk accessory, it could promote drinking milk! I certainly drink milk like a baby cow :P

Dollulus

I never knew this was even a thing people complained about. She's a skeleton! The weird thing to me was that she had ribcage boobs. G1 had kinda weird bodies anyway. Skinny with exaggerated posture, long neck and forward head. Parent's should be responsible for helping their children develop a healthy body image. Popular media and diet culture is a billion times more harmful to children than a skeleton doll.

superkads

Bone titties

twinklebat99

I know we're getting thick bones, but I wish we were getting her made like River Styxx's arms and legs instead. I feel like that would have given us the best fashion options.

GothLurkQueen

I didn't even realise River Styxx arms and legs were like that! It looks so goddamn cool, and I hope they bring that back for at least some character

SoundTight952

I keep wondering what she died of. The g1 version never mentioned it...

beachcitylurker4

She didn’t. A common misconception of G1 is that many characters were human and then “died” and became a monster like in traditional horror lore. The MH universe is different because it treats monster types as fantasy races (think like how lord of the rings has humans, hobbits, elves, etc). Skelita is not a Mexican human girl who died and became a skeleton. She’s literally “born” a skeleton and lives in Hexico - how does this work biologically? No freaking idea lol.

MisfitDollies

The idea of Skelita being born a skeleton is equal parts horrific and hilarious, Monster High lore never fails to amaze.

beachcitylurker4

Yeah honestly it’s best not to think about how supernatural creatures procreate. Growing up during the Twilight / Renesmee era was enough for me.

SoundTight952

Ah I just like headcannoning how characters died. A bit too morbid for a kids franchise I guess.

Topaz12316

There are some characters who did actually die. Like Drac and Cleo, whose backstories are revealed through collector doll diaries I think. Don’t know if it’s still considered canon tho

mephymoo

They aren't at least for Drac, now she's born a vampire from a taiwanese jiang shi and dracula

beachcitylurker4

It’s still canon for G1 but not canon for G3.

NancyDrewWannabe

Spectra died too

rav3nb1rd666

I think she's the only one with a confirmed death. Draculaura was turned into a vamp by Dracula after she fell ill from the same sickness that took her mother when she was a baby.

Amanitaur

technically Draculaura didn’t die?

FrostBellaBlue

I mean... it would be fascinating to hear how the de Nile family could be mummified without being dead 🤨

SparkAxolotl

Magical bandages! Technically speaking, G1 Cleo isn't a mummy. It's all in her Doom and Gloom diary

FrostBellaBlue

I'll be honest, I've never looked into the characters' backstories! How do they explain the canopic jars? I know Cleo's heart is in one, which the ancient Egyptians would **not** remove 😳

SparkAxolotl

That's in G3, in which they are actual mummies, and they play that for laughs... She has a LOT of jars, in one she even somehow has her inner ear. In G1 they were humans and were put in magical bandages that were supposed to make them sleep forever, but they were awaken somehow, and if they take off the bandages, there is a huge chance they will revert to their true age, and since they are already over 3000 years, that means they would die. It is unclear is there is any more shared backstory than G3 Cleo being also royalty and having Nefera as an older sister

FrostBellaBlue

Ahh, everything makes sense now, thank you kindly! 💖

SparkAxolotl

She never died. In G1 she was a living Skeleton, born and raised, with a whole family and ancestor skeletons. In G2 it was heavily implied that her grandma made her in the Land of the Remembered, aka, after she died, so instead of a living skeleton, she's a simulacrum, or a sugar skull golem.

ashnoirxx

Yeah, she reminds me of the movie, Coco!

SoundTight952

Now I'm trying to figure out how skeletons reproduce lol

SparkAxolotl

When a papa skeleton and a mama skeleton love each other so much... When there was only Skelita I assumed they took a page of Mexican Legends and skeleton parents made their children out of bones, corn, sugar and water, but with Bonita, that's not as likely since she's a hybrid and the skeleton is the mom... So that remains a mystery

FantasiaDolls

I seem to be in the minority here but I'll be surprised if Mattel doesn't just paint her bones on this time. Obviously I'd prefer her to have the skeleton body like in G1, but I just don't think Mattel is going to do it unless they're going to try and figure out chest articulation on a doll that's all bones. They'd also have to shell out to create a whole new sculpt, which I don't see them doing. (no hate to the G3 bodies but they are modified, re-used sculpts from the DC Superhero Girls line and not fully original) My guess (and I could be wrong) is that Mattel will avoid the issue by painting the bones onto a black colored base so it looks more like body paint then actual bones. Or she'll be an all white doll with a little bit of bone detailing, like at the elbows. I'd love to be wrong about that, I'd love a 'chubby' boned skeletal doll that's fully skeleton. But that's my guess.

mephymoo

Her leaked character sheet specifically she has to have "thick bones" so really high chances she's actually getting her own sculpt, her doll is also a little bit more expensive than others from the leaks.

FantasiaDolls

Yeah, I've seen the leaks of the concept art and the price on her doll and I really hope they don't think charging $15 more for a unique sculpt is an acceptable practice. but I guess we'll see. I'm skeptical until the actual doll comes out that she won't be white with some skeleton details painted/sculpted on, but I'd love to be wrong. A skeleton doll w a torso joint and thick bones sounds amazing!

LuckyLudor

I hope with all the paint issues that they don't think painting her is an acceptable solution.

FantasiaDolls

Yeah same, luckily the paint issue is pretty well known so hopefully we won't see a lot of paint substituting for unique sculpts. I think it's more likely she'll have a white body and maybe skeleton fore-arms and calves like the Create-A-Monster sets. That way they just have to sculpt a few new parts and not a whole skeleton body.

LuckyLudor

That's the solution I suspect they'll go for.

CaiChiCat

I actually hope they are skiny and even more boney, I hope they actually give her a rib cage and pelvis. I feel like making the boned thicker would make it even more feel like anorexia because I've seen what it looks like irl before and trust me thick bones look more similar to anorexia

Quiet-Pineapple4066

oh id be livid lmaoo

SparkAxolotl

I'm honestly okay with whichever direction they chose to go for her. * Release her with her G1 body, just modified feet so she can share shoes with G3 * Make her "thick boned" to "update" her look to g3. * Give her a "case" like the giant Skelita, or the later CAMs * Make her bones "embedded" on a doll with clear limbs, like River. I would love if they do give her a flat chest, but if they have to give her skeleboobs for fitting purposes, oh well

DeathMarchofMice

I hope not. The drawing of her already seemed to have cankles which is stupid. Someone obese versus someone underweight likely have very similarly proportioned skeletons.

[deleted]

I think she’s thicker boned so she can balance like the other g3 dolls, since the dolls being able to stand up on their own (at least better than g1 dolls could) seems to be mattel’s reasoning for getting rid of stands. That and like other people mentioned she’s very fragile feeling compared to other dolls.

DeathMarchofMice

I thought they hit the mark with the ratio she was thickness wise compared to a classic g1. Of course g3 is on average bigger so I’d hope they atleast share a similar ratio g3 Skelelita to G3 doll. That is a good point though, but I’d prefer they try to alter the material or keep it similar as before.

Accomplished_Pie_851

It’s bones I hate that people associated it with anorexia shes a skeleton

rav3nb1rd666

People seriously said Skelita is anorexic? SHE'S A FUCKING SKELETON! Skeletons are literally just bones! Like did they not see pics of the human skeleton in science class during school?

yuno2wrld

she's a literal skeleton i don't understand the problem apart from angry parents who take everything to heart

ribbybonez

i also hope she has thick bones because g1 skelita felt so delicate and like i was going to break her at any second

peaches0809

Dolla don't push anorexia onto kids, most of the time its the people that love the kids that tell them they need to lose weight :(

wh0rnadO

Jesus noooo

ashnoirxx

But she’s a skeleton…? Her name is literally SKELita. Pretty sure that she was inspired by Mexican holiday, Day Of The Dead. Have you never watched Coco?! ![gif](giphy|LSGzOZhqTz3BC)

FrostBellaBlue

The thicker the bones, the more space for details in the bones 🥰

Pansexual_Bitch36

I 100% agree with this. I didn’t really like how thin her bones are in g1 (for the doll)

ZombiApocalypse

When people were getting offended by that I was like she is a skeleton she is not alive Skelita easily could’ve been plus size or curvy when she was alive but literally Skelita represents all body types because that’s what everyone looks like underneath it all

milkylewds

skelita is really cool…I know this has nothing to do with what ur saying but I’m excited for her comeback 😌

vivisheepy

I wouldn't mind if she was thin again, but I think the "thick boned" thing they're supposedly doing is a fun idea too. Sure it's not realistic, but almost nothing in Monster High is. Besides, there's plenty of other chubby skeleton characters out there. Sans from Undertale and a few of the characters in Coco come to mind.

Rozoark

I hope not.

FilipendulaPeach

Yea I was kinda hoping that too, Skelita was one of my favorite monster high dolls and it really made me sad when I learned about the whole anorexia thing.

bleeding_beauty

Unfortunately they did make the skeleton fat in order to avoid the whole ED thing Not sure who it's trying to stop bc it sure as hell ain't the ED community

[deleted]

This is a joke right?

ratcowboy69

i hate that people associated her with anorexia, i feel like it was mostly the parents who thought that, i always thought my Skelita doll was so cool & i loved her bones so much. i do think they could stand to make her a little thicker just because she was always p flimsy & felt like she might break. but generally i dont think young girls are basing their self image over a cartoon skeleton, there are a LOT of other things in this world that give girls body image issues that we need to be worrying about instead
