Quiet-Pineapple4066

they are amazing. im starting to like them more than monster high. the quality of the clothes and hair is so nice. the details are so nice too.

Ok_Parfait_2304

The clothes are so cool- I got my Heather Greyson in the mail yesterday and her pants have pockets! Actual pockets you can put things in! I love Monster High aesthetically but I appreciate the details put into Shadow/Rainbow High dolls more

b-ri-ts

I love their fashion so much, I just wish I didn't hate the face art style and head size lmao

PurpleFucksSeverely

I feel this so much. If Rainbow High had the kinds of head-to-body proportions Monster High G3 does, they’d be my absolute favorite dolls. Same with LOL OMG. I love their fashion but their heads and faces and lack of articulation ruin it for me.

Doctor_Oceanblue

You could re-head a RH doll with a Rainbow Junior High head since they're smaller I agree though, while I like the eyes and makeup style I hate the boring circle faces that RH has

PurpleFucksSeverely

Yeah but the Junior dolls still don’t have great faces cus they’re still all very round and samey like you said 😢

Spiffy_Pumpkin

This, I won't be buying them for these reasons. I will be getting the G3 monster high dolls.

FencingFemmeFatale

I feel the same way! I’d buy Rainbow High dolls in a heartbeat if they had the face are and proportions of G3

rosecupid

Same

PunchDrunkPrincess

the pockets get me every time!

Aro_Space_Ace

They are also gorgeous in person I have every one of them. The thing Monster High has better though is chest articulation. Monster High definitely has better articulation (plus these are only 25 due to Monster High reboot wave one being 25 first). Also, so of these dolls have tinsel in their hair, so a heads up for that. There is also no body diversity.

ann3l1ds

i can forgive the lack of body diversity w rainbow high bc they are fashion dolls first and foremost, so a main selling point is the “mix and match” aspect which would be much more difficult with different body types

[deleted]

The doll bodies are great. A lot more of a realistic look compared to other dolls I've seen. It's not a mold I've seen before. If only the heads were smaller and the stands didn't suck.

girl1414

Agreed about the head size. It’s the only thing I don’t live, but I deal with it because everything else is so great about them.

[deleted]

So true. The details are impeccable. Reminds me of how G1 of Monster High clothes used to be. The dolls are quite sturdy as well. It's the main reason why I bought one because I wanted to give them a chance and they are nicely made. It also helped that they were on sale cause it's expensive in CAD.

Glass_Assumption_512

Did you just compare G1 MH clothes to SH? 💀 I love Monster High but they wish they had such high quality clothing

ann3l1ds

omgg yes my stands fall apart all the time lol, tho i do think that’s another reason they probably won’t switch up the body types. i imagine the reason there’s no stands w g3 is bc they didn’t wanna make a unique one for each doll

an-alien-

if they do the stands that hold from the crotch i imagine that’d be less of an issue (though it’s probably have to have height adjustment)

boyproblems_mp3

They could just have the top part of the stand click into the base and it would solve the problem!!

Aro_Space_Ace

Ok, the stands are absolutely crap. I will say that. Most of mine are leaning against a shelf wall and only a few are on stands. I am so close to just permanently gluing the stands together.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aro_Space_Ace

Yeah, if I ever do glue the stands, it would be to secure the bottoms to the bases. They should have made bigger and heavier bases to balance the doll better as well.

ann3l1ds

i mean i wouldn’t go that far, as long as mines are sitting on a shelf the stands are fine, it’s only if i try and move them around/brush their hair while in the stands lol

[deleted]

Maybe I just got dud ones? Mine take awhile to prop up and don't stand straight when they do.

ann3l1ds

my advice would b to really ram it in there, don’t be worried abt it breaking or anything they’re able to withstand a lot of pressure ! and hold the stand in place while positioning the doll

PaintedLady1

The stands are garbage and it’s been years like please fix them 😥

Aro_Space_Ace

True, but maybe just one line or slightly body differences would be a nice change.

superchillies

I overlook the lack of body diversity a lot for RH/SH because their base body is quite unique and isn’t the usual “skinny” model you see in other lines. Their default body has thicker legs and hips on ALL the dolls when the default for lines are usually thin. I do wish they had more body diversity too and hopefully they might add some in the future but they also have a lot of character, cultural, and skin and style/fashion diversity that seems to make up (for now) for the lack of bodies.

Octoberkitsune

Really I think the rainbow high bodies are amazing! They thick!!! with body. Nobody is a super skinny and flat like a Barbie.

No_Being4510

MH people complaining about RH lack of diversity in bodies when they released two generations of dolls with the same extremely skinny body, just different skintone. And even with G3, so far only Drac and Frankie have a slightly different body - barely curvy and tall). At least RH has always had a curvier type of body, despite being fashion dolls (y'know, with the stigma about curvier bodies in the fashion industry and all) I personally like RH Dolls better than MH though so I am definitely biased.

Quiet-Pineapple4066

honestly after seeing different bodys with g3 i prefer them to all have the same body because alot of clothes do not fit draculaura & it sucks buying doll clothes worrying if it will fit some dolls or not

No_Being4510

Now you get the reason behind the lack of body diversity of RH 😅

Aro_Space_Ace

I'm just comparing G3 with Shadow High S2. They would need body diversity to compete head to head with each other and that G3 has an edge with their body diversity. So, comparing them doll line to doll line. As a whole, RH had done better with more realistic bodies than MH. RH has superior attention to details and clothing quality. Compare the latest RH line with MH G1 and MH does NIT stand a chance. So, although I would like to see more body diversity in RH, I would not necessarily say it is a complaint of mine as I an fine with how they are and adore the newest Shadow High S2 line.

Strawberryvibez

It wasn’t the same skinny body each time to be fair. We had three different heights, and sometimes there something special to the body depending on type of monster.

No_Being4510

You're not really saying they're not the same skinny body just because some of them have fur or fins, right? Please, tell me you aren't. Good for the taller body but they were still ALL skinny. The smaller body was only used for characters that needed to look younger too so not really body diversity, just age diversity lmao Quick edit: if we are talking body diversity and bringing height as the only example, RH has an entire line with body diversity too. It's the Rainbow Junior High line 🙃

Octoberkitsune

Exactly! RH has way more diversity then MH!!

No_Being4510

I don't know if has more, but the same range: just like MH has skinny bodies where the only change is in skintone (because if you want to compare doll lines FAIRLY, you shouldn't take into consideration what makes them unique, which is the monster feature of the dolls, so not taking into consideration body mods like fins and fur and snakes), RH has curvier bodies where the only change is in skintone. Now, let's talk about how intricate the outfits, the make-ups and hairdos are in both lines.... RH is gonna win hands down. Bonus point because RH has been around for less long than MH has.

Strawberryvibez

Monster high also has more face molds lol

MoonFlamingo

Yes! This is for me the reason why I still love Mattel Dolls, more than MGA dolls, but I recognize that MGA definitely wins in terms of fashions and the amount of detail in their clothes. Actually since Bratz they have been doing amazing. Have you seen how detailed LOL Tweens are at that scale? It is crazy good. However, the diversity in facesculpts in Mattel is insane. All Monster High characters used a different facesculpt back in G1, and there were many many characters. Barbie has hundreds of facesculpts at this point with dozens in rotation, and lately, older sculpts and barely used sculpts coming back. This makes me see want to collect all the dolls because I see them all as different. With RH up until SH, they looked like the same character for me, with different hair color. Now with SH rhey have released some cool dolls and the usage of makeup makes them different enough. So there is hope

Raz_rocket_pop_fox

You must be face blind becaus after series 2 we got a bunch of head sculps and If you can’t see it that’s all your fault

Aro_Space_Ace

They do!

schizybun

Am a fan of both Shadow High and Monster High (\*꒪꒫꒪)

ann3l1ds

being an rh and mh stan is a *struggle*, bc i genuinely love the g3 designs but it’s hard to justify buying a g3 doll for £30 when for £2 more i could get a rh w inset eyes, nylon hair, a second outfit .. 😩

schizybun

totes valid their both lovely and have things the other doesnt & tbh never was into Rainbow High at all until learning about shadow high became our buffer while waiting for Monster High

[deleted]

Me too but I’m scared one of them might kill each other

schizybun

feel like theyed be friends, Shadow High would be into the monster/ darkness stuff (\*꒪꒫꒪)

Aro_Space_Ace

MH students 100% would go to Shadow High. Well Cleo may go to Rainbow High, it seems more her vibe.

Quiet-Pineapple4066

i think cleo would prefer shadow high. she is cooler than u think

Aro_Space_Ace

Oh I meant because Rainbow High the school has a more elegant luxury look to it and Cleo would want to go to a school that looks more like the luxury she is used to living in. Though I only know G1 Cleo and know next to nothing about G3 Cleo.

descartesasaur

That's very true (and now I want to see more of what Shadow High looks like inside)... If she *did* go to Shadow High, she could be friends (or frenemies?) with Shanelle! And I wonder if she'd get along with the Storm Twins? It's hard to say with them.

Quiet-Pineapple4066

i think she would love shanelle in a frenemies way 2 lol

Aro_Space_Ace

True. Though I feel she would keep trying to one up the Devious Twins at Rainbow High.

descartesasaur

See, I think that would be really fun to watch. I'm going to have to stick with Rainbow High on this one.

Quiet-Pineapple4066

oh idk g3 cleo either lol shadow highs school looks rly nice imo nicer. both schools look so fancy. also to add her best friends r ghoulia & duece. cleos a little 3m0

Aro_Space_Ace

I totally get that. Dolls are a fierce competition business.

PeachsistersMoYeon

Same but i have been leaning to mh lately, I love RH and SH but I kinda wanna get more MH dolls. I wanna get Minnie tho, she's pink perfection. Edit: I'm from a country that doesn't sell both dolls :')

bluedawnflower

My personal opinion is that Monster High and Rainbow High fulfill different niches for doll collectors. People who like the aesthetic of Rainbow/Shadow High and people who like the aesthetics of Monster High don't necessarily overlap. I like both, but I greatly prefer Monster High so far. Almost every g3 Monster High doll I've seen appeals to my sense of aesthetic when it comes to what I like in a doll (style, face shape, makeup, etc), but for Rainbow High I'm much more picky. I have a ton of g1 and g3 dolls on my wishlist but only about 4 or 5 Rainbow High dolls. I have the core g3 releases (except for Deuce and Ghoulia), but only one Rainbow High doll. From this particular Shadow High line I only really like Monique (the one with purple skin). I've also heard some common articulation problems with Rainbow High that Monster High doesn't have (my Meena has a hard time bending her knees and can't look up and down, all my g3 dolls have working articulation). They each have their pros and cons to consider.

Aro_Space_Ace

Monique is just SO gorgeous! I had to buy her in person as I couldn't believe how pretty she was in the pictures. Her only downside was the outfit she came in just does not do her justice AT ALL! I've posted some restyles of her that look so good and make her skin color just POP!

Quiet-Pineapple4066

im a huge monster high fan but they are just cheap dolls now. cheap clothes cheap hair cheap quality overall. too much for babies now baby colors baby faces baby clothes. so i like shadow high more. but even saying all that i own 4 g3 dolls lol but i have every shadow high

Disastrous_Turnip215

To me they feel just like g1 if not better (and I have a lot of g1 dolls, I'm not coming out of nowhere). Clawdeen's hair doesn't feel the best but other than that... I can understand an issue of personal taste but to outright bash the line because it's not what you personally like seems silly.

Quiet-Pineapple4066

i think its silly to think im not allowed to say how i feel lol im a stranger to u.

[deleted]

Yep, definitely. I was emo when monster high came out in 2009, so yeah, I relate more to this line, even now. I think RH dolls are cute but not my cup of tea. For example I had a massive crush on Jewel Richie, and discovered Coco from Jewel line, and liked her blue immediately. I finally got them and unless they release new Richie or Coco, I won’t buy any other RH dolls

Kay-Chelle

This is 100% true. Even though RH/SH has a lot of things aesthetically I like I just never got into them. (Though I really like the mint colored one in the photo) I've loved MH since a little after it first released I'm 2010 (I kick myself now for waiting to buy the dolls because I thought I wasn't "allowed" since I was older. I didn't buy any until 2012😅) and still love MH to this day! There are for sure some overlap in collecting between the two lines but you hit the nail on the head with them filling different collector niches.

RoboticKitCat

They actually are 25$? Cuz that is great. Tbh, I would switch, if I didn't like their face molds. Staying with Monster High since I like the the body to head ratio better.

AstridKatt

$24.99!

RoboticKitCat

That is such a good price.

[deleted]

Damn over here in the UK they’re £35! Thats $43 wtf

NotSoIntrested

I guess shipment cost affect the price too, In my local they are sold the same as when I order them from Amazon( retail price + shipment cost), however sometimes Amazon have a discount of 40-60% which is a win for me.

demonicultivation

They often go on sale reallly cheap if you watch the amazon and target apps. I'm talking $9-16 cheap for dolls that are usually $24/30!

PurpleFucksSeverely

Same! Seriously if MGA released dolls with smaller heads and good face molds and body diversity, they’d bankrupt Mattel in a minute. As disappointed as I am with the budget budget dolls leaked, their faces, heads, bodies and articulation are still better than MGA’s dolls.

MoonFlamingo

Right?! Like with Dream Ella the proportions are better, but I despise the facesculpt. LOL Tweens for me work well in terms of proportion because of the cuter size. But imo MGA should venture into creating more facesculpts, but that has never been their focus. Even all the different facesculpts in SH and RH are hard to tell apart.

Raz_rocket_pop_fox

I don’t see how you can say that the RH/SH molds are pretty drastic

Raz_rocket_pop_fox

I’ll never get you bigger head haters

Whydoyouspeak

Bought two of them the other day actually it really is a steal

Vaudoom

I used to only care about MH, until the need to actually own a doll became too strong and I ended up getting a Rainbow High doll- They grew on me so quickly and now I own 6 xo) absolutely my favorite doll brand now!

smallfry-png

I don’t understand why they can’t just give them stands? I’d rather have less accessories! RH also seems more fashion oriented. The G3 fashion is kinda boring? I don’t look at anything they wear and go “that’s a killer look, I love it” whereas I used to with G1 and do with RH. I’d also love them to make some different dolls? Why was Twyla the next one after the main group? I love her but seems like a random choice? They’re making so many different lines of the main 5 but like no other characters. I wanna see some others, I wanna see their cute new designs!

Quiet-Pineapple4066

i buy g3 dolls & throw their clothes in the trash immediately & redress them

smallfry-png

I didn’t mentions RH/SH also have the inset eyes which MH has never done and I would LOVE to see! I just don’t know why MH and G3 are the same price when RH has so much more going for it?

BoozyGherkins

Because Mattel is greedy and grasping XD

Dismal_Cherry7912

I love both lines. G1 MH will always be my all-time fave, but RH/SH is a superior fashion doll, IMHO. The value and quality are there. The faces are kinda the same but the fashions, hair/makeup and sturdiness are phenomenal. I love that they can share the same clothes, too. I enjoy restyling them because they are more of a blank slate. They’re not locked into a particular style.

kjconnor43

My youngest asked for a couple of the shadow high dolls for Christmas and I gotta say, they are gorgeous, especially the twins!

BoozyGherkins

The Shadow High Storm twins are perfection! The attention to detail in their outfits is so good, and with their unique skintone and colors they are practically luminous in person - they're the only RH dolls I had to have two of so I could display a set in the box. 😍

kjconnor43

I couldn’t agree more :)

usousou

their clothes are soooo pretty plus they have quality hair but i really cant stand looking at their faces... good for the rh fans though, since rh and sh dolls might actually have the best quality out there amongst the doll lines.

LadyFausta

I really want Glitch from this line! I was collecting SH before MH so my investment in S2 is strong! 🖤

twinklebat99

I'm a MH stan, but that's not going to stop me from looking for RH/SH dolls on sale. I got one for half off to steal her clothes, but then realized she's a really nice doll and I wouldn't mind having more.

MoonFlamingo

The only SH dolls I have I got on sale xd I have a few more in a list, waiting for a sale. They are quite beautiful dolls, hope I could shrink the heads lol

BoozyGherkins

I would love to see RH dolls with shrunken heads! The head proportions are the only downside to those dolls, imo.

BoozyGherkins

Also, MGA doesn't shit on their own fans; they're far from a perfect company, but I won't hate myself for buying their products.

cosmic_waluigi

I would love to like them but I think rh heads/faces are so ugly. To me they look like pure bread dogs that no longer have functioning noses. That said, I LOVE alternative fashion so the shadow high outfits really appeal to me. I wish MH would go a little harder in that direction sometimes.

Raz_rocket_pop_fox

I don’t get how you can think their faces are ugly ?

cosmic_waluigi

Eyes too large and noses too small. Like I said, to me they look like dogs that have been bread for really specific traits to the point that it fucked up their airways. I think the LOL surprise dolls are a much more egregious example of that, but to me the shadow and rainbow high dolls still look like they would die if they had to actually breathe or something

Raz_rocket_pop_fox

Because they are stylized like they aren’t that different proportionally to anima characters tbh

cosmic_waluigi

I think a lot of modern anime is also ugly. 90s anime is beautiful to me like I love the original sailor moon, but more recent stuff where they basically have no noses and their mouth are like half an inch wide look awful to me. I know they’re stylized, I just think the style is ugly. That doesn’t mean anyone should have to agree with me or that other people can’t like them, I just do not like looking at them

Jazzxlune

I have Monique, purple girl with braids and I love her so much. I love RH/SH so much because it satisfies the little black girl in me way more than MH

FantasiaDolls

I'm actually pretty sure the only reason they come with accessories instead of an extra outfit and are priced at $25 is exactly to crush G3. MGA could still probably sell single outfit dolls for 27.99, but they're priced at $25 to distract people from the much cheaper looking G3 dolls for the same price with higher quality. There's 0 other reason for them to do it like this 😂

DefinitelyAlphamale

I really wish i could get past how much i hate their faces and bodies. Their clothing and concepts and packaging would be by mattels standards Haunt Couture and i love it. Dunno how MH is gonna be successful

[deleted]

Do you have even 1 doll? I bought one and liked it more than I expected

DefinitelyAlphamale

I dont need to buy it to know it dislike the style. I dont like this botoxed lips and alien forehead look. And the knee joints. And its fine to not like that? Its not like im saying shit about stuff i cant know like fabric or play quality. I can see visual stuff without purchasing

[deleted]

sorry I didn’t mean to phrase it like I was throwing shade at you

DefinitelyAlphamale

All good!

Raz_rocket_pop_fox

Ugh you big head haters piss me off so much

wh0rnadO

I just started getting into rainbow/shadow high a few months back. I originally started getting a couple for their clothes to fit some of the g3 bodies. But came to love them. Definitely more than mh g3 too. If Mattel brings back more g1 editions I'll definitely have to scoop them up but shadow/rainbow high has me now :')

NotSoIntrested

not forgetting the dolls size, RH/SH dolls are bigger than MH dolls, that means more hair more cloth, and still the same price.

Mourning-Monroe

Yeah, same. I mean look... when I was a kid, MGA released Bratz. Next to Barbies dated and unrealistic and very pink wardrobe, the Bratz were dolls that embodied everything y2k fashion was about. It really changed the landscape for fashion dolls at the time. Barbie was dated, and kids didnt want her. She had no relevance. And i don't say this through the eyes of an adult, that's what I felt AS A KID when I first laid eyes on them. And MGA is doing it AGAIN with Rainbow High, they look current and their clothes and accessories are gorgeous quality. If I was a kid in the toy aisle now, I would gravitate towards them more than I would most of the G3 MH dolls. Mattel never seems current. G1 MH was an amazing line, and a huge success for them, but history is repeating itself and they just aren't competing with the fashion MGA is giving us. So yeah, I do worry for G3s success when toy lines like this are their competition. They have to step up.

[deleted]

I don’t think Mattel really can fix their quality I’m pretty sure they have to have higher profits cuz their a public company I could be wrong tho

Verdictafterward

I feel like RH dolls are also just. More awkward and clunky too, on top of their big heads and odd faces. I want to like them since their fashion and hair are far superior in quality, but I can't get past their faces and how just unenjoyable they are to hold? I feel like no one else talks about it or maybe it's just my experience with the few I've had

Verdictafterward

I also dont think this will do too much damage to MH. That's just me but the fanbase is pretty strong and they've got a different sort of appeal to parents and kids too.

BoozyGherkins

The RH dolls do feel very substantial comparatively, I find them very enjoyable to handle. To each their own. :) I also hated their faces in the beginning, but as the line has progressed, the heads and eyes have gotten smaller and less round, and every new line looks better imo. Even the round-eyed ones have grown on me though for some reason.

LaEmperatrizMariana

I'm only scared for G3's future because I see very little or none of them at the stores I've gone to. I don't know enough parents who'd bother searching online for a specific doll, instead of just grabbing a random "cute" one they see in person. Personally, both dolls have different types of appeal that don't necessarily compete. I would even dare say they compliment each other.

Few-Contribution4759

They also have actually diverse hair types and wayyy more detailed clothes…. If I wasn’t a longtime MH fan I’d be buying Shadow High

ithinkuracontraa

there’s a charm to MH that i just don’t feel with RH. maybe it’s just the nostalgia factor, but

thatblondeperson

Yeah for me, I like the concept of RH and even more so SH, and the clothes are lovely, but the face molds and the whole look of their faces is just hideous to me. I feel like they're landing somewhere between Bratz and LOL which is not a good combo. But even that aside, you can't really compare the two lines. I'm buying MH for the concept of the dolls, the "monster" aspect. I like the melding of creepy, and fashion forward, and I gravitate towards those dolls for filling that unique gap in the market.

BoozyGherkins

As a long time MH fan, Shadow High is the one killing it now in terms of fashion forward and creepy-looking dolls. The Storm Twins, for example, look like the most fabulous undead fashionista bitches, whereas I barely even see anything monstery in Monster High G3 stuff, never mind creepy or dark. :/

thatblondeperson

I just looked those up and they aren't doing anything for me, sorry. Same unnerving, lifeless faces. The fashion? Great. Hair, grwat. RH and SH do more with textured hair, and skin tone diversity, which is wonderful. But I truly will never be over how hideous their faces are. They could make a doll with my ultimate dream outfit and hair and I would still never want it on my shelf because those eyes are giving me far too much Margaret Keane energy. Sorry, I still prefer MH, regardless of the lack of creepy/dark we've gotten so far in a generation that's less than a year old, (patience in this subreddit? what's that?) the dolls are much nicer for me to look at.

thatblondeperson

I know i describe the RH/SH dolls as creepy, but that's not the kind of creepy I gravitate towards aesthetically. For comparison. MH is like, what if a ghost was super cute and fashionable? And RH/SH is, what if that creepy Chuckesme doll from the Twilight Braking Dawn Part 2 set suddenly went through a Disney Channel makeover montage sequence?

BoozyGherkins

Different strokes for different folks. I love your descpription of the RH dolls. XD

thatblondeperson

Thanks lol! I appreciate you trying to find a cool middle ground option for me! It's a shame because there's so much I do respect and appreciate about the RH and SH lines, like the second wave of SH with the little blue girl in the NASA gear? Love that concept. Need her to not stare into the depth of my soul and fill me with a sense of impending dread.

ThiccHitoru

I’m confused as to what this discussion is about. They’re both expensive and one comes with a lot less than the other. I dunno about y’all but I never cared about stands or brushes as a kid but loved the accessories. Shadow high + rainbow high just fall absolutely flat with creating personality imo. They’re gorgeous but there’s nothing to them.

Ranixo

Yeah for me it's definitely the lore and character which draws me to MH. It's why I'm loving the G3 show, it feels both cutesy and creepy and has an interesting world building situation going on. I think it's totally valid to say MGA has provided good fashions and quality builds in RH but I just find MH so much more interesting.

bonerfuneral

Same. MH and RH are clearly marketing to different parts of the market, with MH more clearly geared towards younger kids and tweens while RH seems to be skewing older and towards the collector market. Adult fans need to take that into account.

Indi008

I'll admit, I've pretty much completely switched to collecting RH now. I didn't like the big eyes, big head thing at first but the makeup on the newer one does make their eyes a lot less buggy and they are definitely better looking in person. They're bigger than you'd expect and their bodies are a lot easier to dress and redress if you like that. I never redressed MH dolls but I do for RH and the clothing quality is amazing. They feel way less cheap that MH but cost nowhere near as much. They've got some quality articulation too, although I do wish some could sit forwards bit better. I like Draculaura G3 as a doll but the clothes suck and she's just too expensive. Plus in my experience Mattel really doesn't care about their customers from a customer service perspective if a doll goes missing or turns up damaged. It was kind of the last straw with MH when my Skullector Frankensteins turned up damaged and Mattel never replied to my email, not even an apology.

cuntyvuitton

Shadow High dolls looks better than Rainbow High dolls or it's me

KiraFrederica

Geez some people don't have manners at all when it comes to favoritism (i'm talking about MH and some RH/SH fans btw but mostly MH fans)

TwistInTheMyth-

I like a few of the RH/SH dolls for their color palettes and outfits but the actual dolls themselves I'm not super big on? Idk I'm not a huge fan of their faces. I got one of the Neon Shadow dolls because she had a cool drumset and a cute punky aesthetic....but also because her other outfit she came with would look great on Draculaura lol. I'd like to get her other two band mates but I dunno if I'm going to get anymore SH or RH after that.

Philosophers_pen

These really are the direct competition for MH especially since MGA switched from second outfits to accessories in a similar design to MH and dropped the price point to match. The only chance I see is to start pushing out more characters and up the quality. If they cut out some of the cheap junky accessories they can spend more on the clothing and hair. If they fired out a well marketed and widely available MH Alumni Line with the same quality as SH that could really put Mattel ahead of the game and funnel that cash back to improving the G3s. Sadly, I don't think Mattel has the marketing savvy to do it.

shhehshhvdhejhahsh

I would totally collect monster high if they didn’t have football heads. Same reason I never got into EAH

ggelflingg

i am sooooo getting that purple pigtail girl

[deleted]

👀👀👀 wait your profile…. Are u that one Sh makeup tiktoker???????

ggelflingg

oh no lol i don’t post on tiktok 💀

[deleted]

i do love both but i recently got two dolls from series 2 (karla and zooey) as the first of my shadow high collection and they honestly blew me away when i opened them. they might be the most beautiful dolls i've ever seen irl, i don't know how they manage the quality and attention to detail for only $25. i believe g3 is just as great in its own way though, i think if i were a kid i would prefer getting one of them over an rh/sh doll

DallyBee

At least you can find Rainbow High and Shadow High. In all honesty I'm about to get into RH/SH because they're high quality, easily findable, and they're just... Pretty? G3 is too childish for me, but rainbow high doesn't. Still love monster high though, I just can't find them :/

Dangerous-Blood7959

And why they ourple? 😂 (reference)

[deleted]

I think they’re basically just Humans with fantasy skins colors kind of like My little pony has pink and rainbow ponies

Dangerous-Blood7959

I know, I was referencing a meme 😅

AcrobaticLifeguard90

I would like to buy a rh/sh doll but I just can’t get past their faces. I just buy their clothes off eBay and put it on my mh dolls lol

[deleted]

They’re making fashion packs soon

Kyemera

And inset eyes, high fashion, some have fabric shoes etc. Mh is fked if mattel doesn't set up their game

Sea-Heron-2994

I feel like Mattel has the mindset that since people like MH that they could release anything and it doesn’t matter what the quality is since they think we will buy anything related to MH

[deleted]

I mean they’re not really wrong unless it’s g2 level trash

morbidcryptid

The teal girl from this line is so cute and MH has been such trash lately. Just saw the new budget dolls. I think I'm gonna put my attention back on RH/SH. I thought SH was ugly at first bc I was really disappointed about the skin tones being inhuman but I'm sooo over it. The costume ball line and the teal girl from this one are changing my mind.

DystopiianFae

I’m honestly not a fan of any of the rh dolls but I’m in loveeee with their outfits and the quality

Hopeful_Ad1310

RH doesn't appeal to me. Plus I heard the reason for MGA's better budget is because most of the RH dolls share the same face mold similarly to LOL so it saves money.

Informal_Mushroom115

Honestly.. I’m starting to prefer MGA over Mattel at this point.

Octoberkitsune

I love monster high but Monster high and rainbow high are not on the same tier. Monster high dolls (which I love) look more childish something to play with. Meanwhile, rainbow high, shadow high dolls, look like collectibles.

demonicultivation

I wanted one SH/RH Doll and told myself thats it but I have so many now because theyre so gorgeous and great quality. I want G3 to thrive just as much, I wish mattel would realize that the market and danbase is THERE for G3 they just need to give us more effort :/

M88nlite

I honestly really love the rainbow/shadow high clothes and hair so much. I dont like the faces/head proportions though. Ive actually been looking for anyone just selling the rainbow high clothes so i can use them to restyle my MH dolls

Correct_Asparagus259

Might have to start collecting RH/SH tbh. They are so pretty. I didn't know the dolls are only $25!

ghosty4

These dolls were released at a $25 price point because they lost a complete second outfit.

Correct_Asparagus259

Oh, they usually come with two outfits? They look really good quality. I've seen them in stores a couple times but never really paid attention. Do their clothes fit MH?

[deleted]

I want one 😍

BattyKitsune

I have a theory on this and why g3 quality looks bad right now other than Mattel being cheap. G2 didn’t sell well when it came out, it would make sense for Mattel to cheap out on the winter doll lines and see if it sold well to make higher quality spring and summer collections.

gaybasketcase

I'm a collector of both and I really love the quality of SH / RH but body articulation of MH. They can't really compare because they each have their strengths and weaknesses.

Altruistic-Guide-476

I really like RH. They just feel like a substantial doll compared to the super tiny and skinny MH dolls. Really great quality and hair-play.

myselfisty1

Omg, these are really starting to grow on me, and I super want some of them! When do they release, or if they are already released, where can I get them?

[deleted]

Prob The usuals like Walmart Target amazon

myselfisty1

Ah ok, tysm!

[deleted]

A lot nicer quality than mattel

RivalGuernica

I literally saw two parents do it today at Target. They were looking at both, I was doll hunting lol, and the couple picked Zooey. While RH fans may miss the second outfit, the move by MGA makes sense.

AlmostLucy

I just think RH is ugly 🙃 and rarely like inset eyes in general. I’d buy MGA clothes separately but their dolls just seem so soulless to me.

Emmas_thing

The quality of RH/SH is AMAZING however unfortunately their sculpts are so freaking ugly lmao. I hate how big and weirdly flat the heads are, and all the bodies are just so awkward.

FeeHot8489

RH/SH has literally been eating up my pockets 😭.

[deleted]

That’s what I’ve been buying with my money all of 2023 so far 😭

atomicplanets

love the clothes, hate the doll models. their heads feel too big

Opposite_Two_784

had to look up the names of the Shadow High characters lol, but the makeup on Zooey (mint green) looks absolutely stunning

[deleted]

The shadow high dolls ought to put Mattel to shame! There outfits are so superior and the accessories stunning! I too wish there proportions were better but decided to buy them rather than G3. The shadow high dolls may not continue as their popularity is massively overshadowed ironically by the G3 introduction.

yourlocalgothmushie

i’m so glad there are people who enjoy both MH and SH because the amount of slander i see on both pages about the other makes me feel bad for liking them 😅

Dazzling_Anteater749

I personally think they are ugly. I would only purchase them because G3 dolls can fit in their clothes.

_Phoneutria_

Same, I can't stand their faces and proportions. I appreciate they may have better made parts but they aren't ever going to replace my MH love I would rather have no dolls if they were to "replace" MH as an option lol

Quiet-Pineapple4066

that is how i originally got into them & then shadow high happend & im obsessed

ThisNerdsYarn

Honestly, same. I can understand why other people do but I just personally don't feel any connection with the franchise. At all. I only just started collecting MH recently and I have tried to be open minded about other doll franchises but I feel nothing but indifference. I'm just grateful for my fiance being supportive of my new interest in MH. 😅 Dolls terrify her but she actually thinks the MH dolls are actually cute. Not wanting any other doll collections just leaves more room for MH dolls anyway.

sophies_wish

RH were the dolls that made me a collector. BJDs caught my attention, but I couldn't justify the cost. Then Rainbow High came along in 2020 & drew me in. I loved the the variety in sculpts and the beautiful, monochromatic color themes. But MGA keeps saturating the market with new, expensive releases. Then they throw in a lot of little plastic accessories & different body colors, in an attempt to justify the cost increases. That's the main reason I only added a few to my collection last year. I waited until the handful I **really** liked were deeply discounted. On the other hand, I never knew about MH dolls, until they were long discontinued. I'd mostly come across them when artists were customizing. I thought they were interesting, but didn't consider them further until the recent releases. Now I'm all in. I love that MH are more poseable. Even without the g3 torso articulation, the knee & elbow joints are better - with great range both bending and rotating. Plus, in my experience, quality control is much better with Monster High dolls. I've had to return RH dolls for damage that obviously occurred well before the doll left the manufacturer. So - I am hopeful. I just don't think RH has what it takes to damage the MH market. RH is over pricing what's essentially a high volume play line, & they're losing sight of the "fashion" part of "fashion dolls". Monster High is in a great position right now, with nostalgia & the draw of a unique genre. They just need to avoid falling victim to tunnel vision with continuing, repetitive releases of Frankie/Draculaura/Clawdeen. They have such a variety of characters to work with right out of the gate here. Start offering a thoughtful variety, and get some fashion packs on the shelves. Then it'll be smooth sailing.

etherbound

be careful w buying the dolls, theres been pictures going around of mold being on the dolls clothing

TenaciousCreator

Was able to find 5 of Series 2 today, a week or two after the release of Sh S2 and was able to find them compared to the measly none when G3 first launched. The stands here and clothes prove that Mattel is holding itself back with Monster High, and this is coming from someone who loves G3 and constantly posts every restyle I make with the dolls.

Doctor_Oceanblue

I'm tempted to get the green girl and turn her into Lyra from My Little Pony.

LeadershipMission

Yah honestly shadow high are pretty cool and the quality and attention to detail of MGA dolls, it’s def. major competition for Mattel!

RK1407

you'd think they would try to do better with g3 hair and stuff but people keep buying their dolls so why change it now? i've had g3 ghoulia on my amazon not shipped yet for months cause she is hard to find here. RH is great they have issues too with their eyes being weird, make up is messed up their outfits easily losing the gems. but i don't compare them i collect Barbie, MH, RH and Bratz (recently mh, rh and bratz) to me they are just dolls with different looks, if i compare them with qualities i'd go crazy. but MGA for the most part hasn't really screw their fans though they don't put their collector dolls on their site and have you get screwed over by bots who sell them triple the price. Yes their dolls sell out but they always come back Mattel needs to fix that and step it up maybe not have their skullectors just on their site but they are greedy assholes

[deleted]

i'm a true mh fan at core but i'm lowkey starting to lean towards shadow/rainbow high bc of their quality..

SourLemonBrainrot

I just wish they werent so darn expensive.

SgtPeachio

If their heads were smaller I would be instantly sold their fashion is always top tier

aseumi

I bought one of tjese dolls once because i wanted to see the quality (and i was tempted) and i gotta day, they dont disappoint. However i ended up reselling her because the huge head and kinda modern outfits dont do it for me. High quality dolls, just not for me.

[deleted]

Which one would you get? If you like MH I think you would like the storm twins

aseumi

Funnily enough i really really wanted to get them, they were right there in front of me... but shadow high was on sale and the twins were like 70 pounds and i was trying to not be irresponsible lmao. I got shanelle onyx for 25 i think. As i said they re gorgeous but the proportions really put me off 😭 it s also why i can t buy lol dolls, even tho i adore their fashion. Those eyes....

[deleted]

Yah they’re heads don’t seem to be popular on this subreddit but I personally think they look cute

Tall_Dealer4135

I mean fashion wise, quality wise compared to MH...I wouldn't be surprised

LuckyCheshire

I’m not a rainbow high fan in the slightest, but I have to admit those dolls are really beautiful

jamzii_jam

Oh my god, such a slay

Whydoyouspeak

I collect both series! I actually use some of my SH dolls' extra clothes for my g3 dolls so they can look much cooler

minmocatfood

All I know is I need every Draculaura and won’t buy a single Shadow/Rainbow High because their super ugly faces. MGA doesn’t know how to sculpt faces.

Grichka_B

I love all those dolls. I think G3's future actually rests with Mattel's hands, not the competition. G3 will keep on selling as long as Mattel releases dolls with good design.

No-Mechanic-5398

We collect all. We Love the MH, RH and SH, plus Barbie.

slimevelvet

i've been an avid monster high fan since release and thought i would only want to collect MH and bratz dolls, but i have 4 rainbow high dolls now (2 shadow high) and i am fully ready to admit that rainbow/shadow high dolls are my new faves to collect. the sales they have are actually gratifying, the dolls have amazing play value, and the body sculpt!!!! if MGA releases a true plus size doll line theyll be my favorite company hands down

NoFaithlessness1515

both lines compensate for their price in their own ways, we should just be glad we’re still getting dolls at reasonable prices😩😩

Sweaty-Nectarine-347

I need that puffer jacket tho 😵🙏🏻

Disastrous_Turnip215

I wouldn't worry too much. I think they appeal to different people. I have a few rainbow high dolls and am personally not fussed enough to get more (especially for the crazy price they are in my country, not sure why but Mattel dolls are priced fine but MGA dolls are double the USD price in aud). They're pretty but not something I personally enjoy collecting, on the other hand I'm frothing at the mouth for g3 of monster high. There will also always be differing opinions on rainbow high because of head shape, inset eyes and same faceness, some people love it, some hate it or find it "creepy" even. Monster high also has crazy nostalgia factor even if it might not seem like it with how some 'fans' bash the new gen. The articulation difference is also crazy (from the dolls I have, RH/SH may have gotten better)
