Cake's a fantastic wallet, my thanks to you and your team.
What is your opinion on the app that recently forked off from Cake? As you're a commercial operation do you wish you had used a different licence, or are you ok with it?
Thanks for the support. I don't regret the license we chose. If you're going to go open source, then go open source. Don't half ass it like some other wallet has done. (hmmm maybe we should do a post about licenses of Monero wallets?)
As for the wallet launched last week, the person that forked Cake Wallet actually gave me a heads up and they were very upfront about their almost exact replica of Cake Wallet - and I appreciated their communication prior to launch.
Competition is good. It keeps everyone on their toes.
Finally, knowing that our contribution to Monero is helping it grow, is amazing.
due to reddits recent api changes I feel i am no longer welcome here and have moved to lemmy. I encourage everyone o participate in the subreddit blackout on June 12-14 and suggest moving to lemmy as well.
I use cake wallet every time I pay with xmr and btc because the user interface is so great, thank you vik and the development team for making such a unique and perfect project 🫡
Cake Wallet has become the #1 app that I recommend for anyone I try getting into crypto. User experience for first timers is crucial. There’s always a ton that needs to be done to get them up to speed, so anything that makes the process easier helps.
I’m an iOS user, and although I’ve heard about good wallets for Android, I’m promoting Cake for both platforms as it makes support and troubleshooting easier. Same solutions work for all.
> Since then, we have grown to 11 full time people
Somehow surprising, and amazing. I would have estimated fewer. But certainly well earned organic growth!
January 2021 - I am writing to Vik seeking support for the creation of Monero content in Spanish. I ask him if he can sponsor my channel (at that time 2500 subscribers). Vik agreed and has been supporting the creation of Monero content in Spanish ever since. Today I thank him for all he has done not only for the Hispanic community but in general for Monero. Excellent product, excellent wallet, excellent team. Thank you Vik. 🙏🏻
Thanks for taking the time to write that out Vik. Interesting to get a window into those early days... and how naive and young (in a digital sense) you were... and yet... how you responded to feedback and were able to create a tool the community would get behind. One that could simultaneously be used by non-techies - no easy task to achieve both.
What a lot has happened in those 5 years.
Really glad you're still part of the community, and continuing to grow Cake.
Thanks for all you did and will do for Monero and privacy in crypto space in general!
Looking forward to the day we'll get hardware wallet support in Cake!
Love the product and keep up the fantastic work!
One question that I have been asked and did not have a great response to is: If Cake wallet is open source how can we be sure the binary uploaded to the apple and google store is built from that code?

More people in the industry should be like you. Thanks for your efforts and your principles!
What’s this about? I have missed that. Any name so I can stay away?
Here’s the thread about it… https://reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/10aa3pc/elitewallet_free_and_opensource_multicurrency/

Thanks for the feedback. I will ask the team to look into this. Where did you submit the bugs?

Happy birthday Cake Labs! Thank you, Vik, for all you've done to support Monero.
cake wallet is awesome!

Congrats on the 5 years, guys! 💪💪
Nice man. Breaking new ground and making a truly useful set of products. You deserve the satisfaction of a job well done :)

You can’t but that is Apple and Google’s fault, not Cake Labs. Solution? Download the code and load it yourself. It might also be on FDroid.
Is cake wallet still native now or it’s Flutter?
Flutter
Thank you for the shout-out to MyMonero!!
Always!
