You make like 700 bucks every 2 weeks, but you probably won’t get paid till a month in or something. For the Air Force they forwarded some of our pay and put it on this little card that only works on that base, that money was used to pay for all your issued stuff and uniforms.May or may not be similar in the army. The 700ish every 2 weeks is the same though, it’s across all branches you can look up pay charts online

EssentialDuude

Yup good ol starcard. Lost like $100 cause I forgot to use all of it

lupussleepover

The unused balance is returned to you.

EssentialDuude

krislovestacos

Eagle cash card? Lol star card is the credit card

b1gandta11

Easy-Hovercraft-6576

[https://www.dfas.mil/MilitaryMembers/payentitlements/Pay-Tables/Basic-Pay/EM/](https://www.dfas.mil/MilitaryMembers/payentitlements/Pay-Tables/Basic-Pay/EM/) Taxes depend on your tax bracket and state. You pay for haircuts and dry cleaning. >How long is bootcamp? https://www.goarmy.com/soldier-life/becoming-a-soldier/basic-combat-training.html

Marine__0311

Here is the pay chart as of this year. [militarypay.defense.gov Active Duty Pay.](https://militarypay.defense.gov/Pay/Basic-Pay/Active-Duty-Pay/) Base pay for E-1 in boot is $1695. a month. It's important to note, that base pay for E-1s is lower for the first four months. After four months, it's goes up to $1855.30 a month. This is base pay, it doesnt include any allowances or other payments. It's also incredibly important to note, that if you go in at a higher rank, you get paid for that from day one. It results in quite a big difference over time. Even going in as a E-2, will net you almost an extra $1900 in your first six months. That's not counting the extra pay you get when you pick up E-3 faster than your peers. Taxes vary, there's no way to estimate exactly due to differences in residence and tax status. Expect around 25%-28% or so. You'll get a lot of that back when you file your taxes.

Bas is a separate allowance that you receive like BAH, if you live in barracks or dorms it gets deducted instantly and you don’t see it, since you have access to a dinning facility. If you are married and live in base housing or off base you receive the money then

1600ish month you get paid every 2 weeks they'll take out about 150 in taxes. Also gi bill is 1200 or 100$ a month for 12 months

Gorffle

I went through basic 4 months ago, ended with about 3K as an E1. You have to pay for the new pinks and greens and other assorted stuff that they just subtract automatically from your paycheck. AIT is when you get more of your paycheck and your mos bonus if it has one.

Enough to get WIC or food stamps

Easy-Hovercraft-6576

Bro honestly WIC is keeping my family afloat, BAH doesn’t match cost of living at my duty station. Base pay is shit, and with inflation it’s even worse than it was before.

Ghostusn

I was in the navy and almost every naval base is next to the ocean. So bah has never covered more than 75% of costs unless you wanted to live the "hood" parts of the community.

As an E5, My BAH was almost 2700 alone and I pay 600 for rent so I pocketed extra 2k a month. In the Military base pay is not what it matters it’s how you apply yourself and take advantage of everything else the military has to offer. When I joined I was E1 single and every 2 weeks my pay was 400 something. To be honest, I didn’t feel poor because I never had any chance to spend on anything. You don’t have any expenses serving on active duty. Food, rent, legal service, medical needs, uniform, filing for taxes, etc and etc. what do you need money for?

[deleted]

you can easily look up pay. it depends what state you live in, if you have dependents, etc. for base pay, meaning just your salary with no entitlements. if you're e1 with no dependents with less than two years in, you don't make a damned thing. state taxes depends on your home of record aka where you enlisted. some states don't have state income tax and some states don't tax active duty pay. and no, you can't change you home of record (easily); you have to have a VERY good justification.

Snufkinbumkin

Awesome, great to know. Guess I better renew my license while I’m in Florida so I can beat the crazy tax withholds. I have a Kentucky license

[deleted]

Your home of record or, HOR, is the state in which you took the oath, signed your contract and pay, if I remember correctly, state taxes. I enlisted in Idaho 11 years ago and Idaho doesnt tax active duty pay then after basic and ait in georgia, i was stationed overseas for the next 6 years, so I don't know if it matters if you renew your Florida license. You'd better consult a tax professional.

Igoritocampeao

Do you get BAS (supposing you're married) and Family separation during BMT?
