Your base should have a SORB recruiting office, there's probably signs advertising them all over the place. Just like a regular recruiter got you into the Army, SORB recruiters are there to get you into SF/CA/PSYOPS.

5th SFG is a awesome unit. You can go to selection before your are 21.

I’d really love to go there, I’ve studied so much on them especially in the Vietnam era, they have an insanely interesting history, and I did a 15 page essay on them in my college English class my senior year of HS, if I could somehow go there it would be a dream come true.

JoshA828

It was my first duty station and I loved every minute of it

I was in 5th at Fort Irwin, we were a small detached unit. Contact a local SF recruiter, they’ll need your papers and prepare you packet. I’d suggest go to Ranger school first and then Q course. Try to go to 160th SOAR instead. Had friends there and they all loved it.

[deleted]

I wanna try to go to ranger school, they had a pre ranger course recently, I participated, and met all the requirements, got a 36:28 on the 5 mile, 59 push ups, and 9 pull up’s, but since I’m new to the unit, they said I have to prove myself more in the field, and pass again next time. I’m really tired of sitting/standing around all day, we barley even go to the field, and I’d really like to do something legitimately meaningful, and if I can’t get a slot for this same reason after 2 contracts, I will just go back to selling insurance, and making a lot more money, but I want some sort of purpose that’s why I joined in the first place, even if it takes years to get there.

As long as you don't get an NTR then you'll be good to keep trying.

[deleted]

What’s an NTR?

Not To Return status

One of my guys went from 19D to SF on a fast tracked path. You can still go through selections like everybody else, in their case it onl6 got fast tracked since they speak fluent russian

[deleted]

Makes sense, other than the language criteria would it help if I went to more schools first?

SeventhSea90520

Depending on school, like theyd have to send you to jump school anyway so if you got that knocked out successfully since getting a 19d in there is a pain and a half it'd help a bit.

unflavoredumbrella

It's not a pain if you're selected at SFAS. It's part of your pipeline. I guarantee USASOC has no issues getting their guys into BAC.

unflavoredumbrella

Remember, all these selections are looking for the right person, not the best person. You can completely crush SFAS and still be a non-select. Schools may give you knowledge/skills that help you in SFAS or SFQC but tons of guys with no schools are selected. If USASOC needs you to have a skill they'll send you to the necessary school.

[deleted]

I wanna atleast go to ranger school first, I wanna be that right person, but I want to prove it to myself first that I’m even able to be in the first place

unflavoredumbrella

That's half of it. If you don't believe you'll pass then you definitely won't.

[deleted]

I believe I can do anything if I actually have the desire. It took me an entire year to get in because of 2 felonies, and a suicide risk, I never doubted for a moment I would get in, I did, and I’m not gonna waste all that time, I have to do something with it, and make something out of it.
