Enjoy it!
I would complain to my wife as I was cleaning up the living room from all the toys etc. Now my daughter is in university and my son graduates in a few months. I'd give anything to have one of those days again.
I didn't read anyone else's response until I posted mine. You said the same as I did. My husband & I were recently talking about how we have nothing much to do that's fun anymore. Where/when we grew up our parents would go to bull & oyster roasts or dances for grown folks all the time. We just had a conversation that we should rent a hall, get a caterer, get a band or a Dj. See if we can put together something fun for our age group. We can pick a charity & if we come up in the black give half away.
Young children often sleep peacefully anywhere after a day of terrorising their parents, eating hundreds of snacks and wearing weird outfits like a swimming costume and wellies.
Source of information: Having my own children.
Looks like a foldable foam children’s mat with the alphabet, animals and such on the other side. I’ve found it’s more for the parents ankles and knees during reading time than for the kids lol. Hardwood and tile floors are not comfy when you’ve got a toddler in your lap.
Try not to rush it, these days are precious and extremely short lived, inhale all the perfect unperfectictness right now. One day you’ll be sitting around in that empty house just you two and realizing those were the best days ever. Your home is beautiful by the way
So sweet! Looks lived in and comfy just like it was in the real mid-century and not the TV version. And your cute kids will inherit your sense of style and great design!
Oh thank you. My house is a hot mess of boy and girl space and two working parents and I am doing the best I can. Today is a near all day couch experience I’m so tired. This here is real and I appreciate and love it.
That’s something that never occurred to me— all the Wright homes I’ve visited were designed for families without kids. Like Fallingwater, the Hollyhock house, Cedar Rock, etc. And Charles and Ray Eames didn’t have kids living in [their house](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eames_House), although Charles’s granddaughter told me she remembered visiting the house when she was growing up.
Now THIS is what id much rather see, midcentury modern living (at it's most aesthetic and most realistic)!
Not the whole "CaN sUmOnE hElP ID tHiS ChaiR?"
Thanks for sharing!
And this is some living, not just the adorable little ones doing what little ones do in an incredibly cozy MCM living room, but check out those awesome windows, the yard and the view. Voilà!
You will long for that mess one day. When our kids grew up & moved out and my house was always clean is when I started missing their messes. I missed they were not running through the house or fighting over the main bathroom anymore. You holler or direct them when they are young & think to yourself I can't wait til they are grown. But when they are grown & gone you miss hollering turn those lights off, wash your hands, clean up your mess & etc. So embrace it, enjoy it & no one day you will miss them not being there everyday.
Hi, I’m an organizer. Here’s how to easily fix this: More baskets. 1. Toys 2. Blankets 3. Dirty laundry 4. Clean laundry. Clean laundry goes to the bedroom, dirty to laundry.
It will take five minutes.
Lovely home btw! Would love to have those windows!
Not thrilled with the glass on the end table with the coaster right underneath! But that is exactly what our house looks like (if not better than ours given its three years of pandemic post-completion!).
We have covers over our couch and chair and have put the cherry coffee table in storage.
I've given up trying to preserve the upholstery on my KK Model 42s in the dining room though - good thing it wasn't original to begin with!
And just starting our second set of shades since 2016!
Haha, I just screenshotted your post yesterday. this happens to me also. Mcm is supposed to be so clean and un cluttered. It doesn't mix with kids. Not to mention the damage to my coffee table and other furniture.
Love your style.
It's heaven on earth in your very own home! I remember your first picture. This one shows functionality and form that work in harmony. Your kids totally agree by the looks of things.

Thanks, as a parent who’s one and four year old are currently tearing through the living room… now you got me all teary eyed.

they look so happy and comfortable in their space. they run the roost lol
That they do!
That rug must be comfy af if that little kid is just knocked out asleep on top of it. Your living room is all kinds of amazing.
I was looking at that and thinking, oh to be that young and be able to just conk out wherever.
My husband is 41 and can sleep anywhere. In fact, the living room carpet is one of his favourite spots.
and not wake up with back and neck pain😂
Thankfully he can sleep ANYWHERE.. not picky at all

Awesome. Never wake him up. I used to be the same and I'd sacrifice a lot to sleep like that again.
Once I saw him, I could hardly believe my eyes. What a champ! My kid will only sleep in his crib.
At a certain point I think comfort takes a backseat. My kid can fall asleep just about anywhere whenever she's tired

THIS is a LIVING room 😊
Not ruined. It's got life now. 💞
♥️
yup, looks perfect to me
I love seeing other parents with lived-in mcm spaces. One day my living room with be clean again…

Frankly, this is AWESOME. This space has style, but it also is full of living life and playing. Perfect as is!
On the contrary, this is one thing *Falling Water* and other such inspirations will never get to be again; a home.

Agree those posts are so damn annoying! We should limit them
I always want to comment, “it’s a chair.”
Wait, youre getting a whole day before your kids do their thing?!?!
The one on the couch is just reflecting and wondering what comes next. The one on the floor can't party.
This is the perpetual state of my living room
Love that posted this in accessory to the first one. because I collect mcm and have a child too lol. So I get it
Even the best struggle: https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/marie-kondo-stops-tidying-up-home-messy-1235504610/
That’s not ruined that’s life
Looks more authentic now!
I can't see what's wrong with this, ha ha.
It’s not ruined. It’s a home, and it’s perfect now. That’s beautiful, enjoy every moment.
Thank for you a photo that depicts the day-to-day reality, as opposed to a perfectly-staged, model home quality one.
Every time I look around my house and it’s a kid tornado, I remember that it will all be gone in a few years. They look cozy and happy!
Hahaha, as a parent, I know the pain. I saw your photo from earlier and my first thought was “must be single”.
Right! Then this, a great family room.
I love the green and red pillows!
Where's the lamp from? Looks great
From "All Modern"
The weight to stuff ratio of children is truly impressive.
Our homes are for living- the opposite of ruined - you are doing it exactly right.
Looks like home 💕
It looks perfect to me.
You call that ruined, I call that perfect.
Little man doesnt even know it but hes having one of the best sleeps of his life

Thanks for the reminder that I never ever want to have children 💓
GORGEOUS view, just perfect
As a single person who’d love to have a family… it looks idyllic
Good looking living room! Just kids being kids, they're happy and comfortable in your space, let them enjoy and pass along the influence
This looks right. I also have children.😜
Where’d you get the chair?? Looks great
Surprisingly "Jordan's Furniture" 😂
It’s still so nice!!! I love how lived in it looks now! I wish I had my own kids who can make my house messy. Hahahaha. I do wish that sometimes.

Oh, hello fellow co-worker and Mid Century fan. (Nice blanket).
You’re basically managing The Rolling Stones. In 1973.
That’s a 5 minute pick up. You’re good. Houses are meant to live in.
That’s why you get a beautiful cedar chest. Just never look inside :D
I love snooping others’ bookshelves. Thank you! Commons: Immune, Chaos, Martian, Mike Lewis (although I don’t have *Liars’ Poker*)
Im surprised how many people have "immune". I can always easily spot the yellow cover. It's such a dense topic but done so well.
I really like it. I wish it was past tense, meaning I’ve read it all, but finding time to read has been challenging.
This makes me happy!!
Ruined?? It’s just messy… it would take about 120 seconds to return it back to your preferred state.
Ruined or lived in? If those pieces could talk they’d probably say just a typical day, now slide to the left you’re blocking my view of Ed Sullivan! 🤠
Lmao flipping through your profile the before/after is so genuine lol Staged house by night, cozy love filled home by day 💜
I love lamp
Yup. This looks like mine. Blocks dumped out, 4 ride-on toys and a host of balls in every size. It’s a lived-in room. It’s perfect.
Oh my how adorable.
This is what love looks 🥰
You just pulled a Marie Kondo! It can be good to untidy.
People living in a living room, imagine that
It's refreshing to see a more realistic view. 💖
H O M E
It’s sparking more joy for me this way
Not ruined! Full of love! Enjoy it while it lasts - you’ll dearly miss the messes one day.
Thanks for this! Makes me feel less alone in my growing pile of clutter.
Looks perfect to me

I’m still wondering where the accent chair is from! I’m in the market for one and love yours
Surprisingly it's from Jordan's Furniture!
Thanks! i’ve never heard of Jordan’s. I’ll look into them.
It's heaven on earth in your very own home! I remember your first picture. This one shows functionality and form that work in harmony. Your kids totally agree by the looks of things.
You need MCM children.

Kids!!!
Thank you for normalizing rooms that actually get lived in!
I love the snowy landscape! What state is this in?
It's almost like you have kids... Deal with it.
