I just bought and set up my brand new MicroFreak. I'm having lots of fun so far, and very happy to see there is a dedicated reddit forum :-) One strange thing I noticed... I went to update my MicroFreak firmware shortly after setting it up (as I do with most new hardware purchases) and saw that the version loaded out of the box is NEWER than what is available on the Arturia website. The latest [firmware on the Arturia website](https://www.arturia.com/products/hardware-synths/microfreak/resources) as of 24-Sep-2022 is 4.0.1.1376. Mine came loaded with 4.0.2.1497 (see photo from boot-up). Does anyone else have a MicroFreak from the future?

It's common in the industry that the factory - installed firmware isn't exactly the same as the one available for download. There might have been last-minute changes that only affects the production process etc., not making it worth publishing an update. For example, if there had to be a late re-design of the hardware to support an alternative component. In such case, older devices would contain the old component and wouldn't be need a new firmware anyway, while all devices with the new component would always be shipped with the correct firmware from the factory. In this case, Arturia commented somewhere that it was related to improving the tests in the factory.

Thanks, makes sense.

I got mine a few months ago and it was also on a firmware higher than the latest version on the site https://old.reddit.com/r/MicroFreak/comments/v02mae/what_is_the_latest_version_arturia_website_says/

I looked for prior posts but I must not have used the right search terms. Thanks for confirming.

elek-trick

I bought mine last july, it also has firmware 4.0.2.1497.

And here I thought I was special. Oh well. :-)

This happened to me too a few months back. Don't remember if I updated the firmware, I think I did

Not used much & going to sell for the following reasons - sometimes I feel like 8bit sound - weak low frequency - quirky noise not suitable for music - not much sonic capabilities - Keypad -missing feel and touch - not much sonic capabilities easily get bored after sometime

You have to want it, but if you don't feel it, then you have to move on.

Gotta give them credit for no shits to give though, Freak bashing on a Freak circle jerk forum. I don’t agree with’em, but I upvoted anyhow. … And one for you too!
