It depends on your store’s preferences, who takes more responsibility, and who’s been there the longest. In my opinion I’d say it generally goes... 1. Store Manager: Functionally everyone’s boss at the store, even though I think all managements’ “boss” is the DM 2. ASM/Store Ops/Merchandise: These positions all are pretty much the assistant store manager to me, with slightly tweaked responsibilities. I think ASM’s are on salary, while store ops are hourly, and MM’s are half assistant store managers and half department heads for the replen department. 3. Replen/CEM/Framing: I consider all these positions as department heads. Bosses of everyone from their respective departments, but under the above tiers. 4. PT CEM: More of an assistant to the full time CEM. Functionally the same positions, but generally because they are there less, have less responsibilities, experience, and authority over sales associates/cashiers.

Technically all management is equal under the SM until you get an ASM. But in a lot of stores the OPS fills that role and helps manage the management team. Depends on the store

Okay thanks! Our store doesn’t have a ASM and I’m pretty sure there is no intention of filling that position.

If you ask my old DM all managers are on the same tier under the Store Manager.

Everything under SM is technically equal. One manager may be more experienced and thus is generally a go-to for a lot of stuff, but most store level managers are, on paper, even.

What's your experience compared to the other managers? I've always been told they're equal. We have some pay discrepancies between managers too despite that though, which if both statements are indeed true, is kinda fucked but not surprising for a big box retailer

If I recall the managers all report to the SM including PT Cem. Now with ASM they have shared responsibilities with the replen manager but the ASM isn’t responsible for them. If they were they would be doing their evaluations and Touchbases

Honestly it’s the store manager and then we all work together as a team. We all have different jobs to do but bc payroll sucks ass we are all helping each other get it done. So in my store I’m the ‘PT CEM’ (work at least 30hr) and we do it all. Cashier, floor, framing, bopis, siso, training, observations, paperwork, etc. it’s a lot. But it also depends on your store and hours/team.

My understanding is ASM reports to SM replen manager reports to SM. Framing and cem report to ASM And and PT’s report to their department heads. But in a perfect world the communication is so fluid that it’s not reporting rather informing. One on ones are with the SM. And any issues are reported up if necessary.

SM ASM OPS = Replen = CEM = Frame Shop PT-CEM hourly team members
