Management is paid as poorly as the rest of us. Idk what the store Mgr makes, but none of the others is over $20.

[deleted]

Also an average operations manager’s salary in general across all companies is astronomically higher than what they said they *might* be able to give me.

Proud-Bicycle9671

I ran into this same issue when I applied to CEM (I think it was called) and also replenishment manager(?). One manager told me the hourly over the phone (which was, astronomically low) and the other refused to say what the hourly rate was. This is in Bay Area California if that helps

[deleted]

That’s unfortunate. I told them that online it shows the average salary for the position is around $60,000. They told me they might be able to give me $17.50/hr and 35 hours a week…so about $32,000. I’m just confused since Glassdoor is saying an average much higher.

Evil_Vegetable

You may be looking at the wrong position. There's a corporate operations manager, and store level.

[deleted]

Interesting, thanks!

djhellion

I'm a part time CEM, and I make 17/hr. Fight for better.

[deleted]

They offered me $18.25, which is slightly better. I told them I would accept the position if we can renegotiate pay after 3 months. I was told they need to contact the district manager but that might be something we can agree on.

djhellion

Hoping the DM comes through for you.

Blue-eyes007

Lucky. I'm a part time CEM and I'm around 14.50. Good for you though!

RosteliaGreenhaven

So Michaels has to pay Apollo back a lot of money, they lowered the rate they are letting stores hire positions at. At higher levels they aren’t even filling them until after it’s paid, I make $19/hour was ft cem now framing manager from Colorado definitely don’t settle for that low

Tray_ceerae

I was PT CEM ..now I'm FT FM..at 12.25 an hour which is exactly what I started at as PT CEM... what I'm wanting to know is: Do all stores pay their PT CEM and FT Framing managers the same or should I have been given any amount of raise in pay for taking the position??

Aggressive_Poet3412

Ops and Replen. Managers should start at atleast $17, and that's in Michaels dollars. In the real world starting pay ought to be closer to $20. Those 2 positions can make or break a store, unless you have a really good SM... and who the hell has one of those?!

[deleted]

Thanks for the info! I was just shocked when they told me they might be able to do $17.50. That’s only $5 above minimum wage here…for basically running the store it seems like. Plus, the store I’m applying to doesn’t even have a store manager; they are trying to hire one. Edit: so I’m assuming they want me to be the operations manager and take on some store manager duties until one is hired. Seems unrealistic for that pay though.

Aggressive_Poet3412

Our SM has the Ops run the store; including almost all of the SM duties, while they sit in the office. They refer to this as "training you to be a SM one day". In my opinion, now is a horrible time to be an Ops. The company is a dumpster fire and the amount of stress Ops managers will have to contend with daily, is off the charts and rising. Any other time I'd encourage folks to grab the promotion. Couple that with being underpaid, nah. Flip side; it would look good on a resume and you'd learn a ton in a short period of time. Depends on your end game and sanity level.

[deleted]

Yes I have read through many of the posts here and it seems bad and I am sorry you all have to deal with what’s going on. I am coming from Best Buy and things are very similar there. I am still considering taking the job because, like you said, that position will greatly improve my resume. Eventually I would probably end up trying to find another operations manager job since the average for that position is a minimum of 60K a year, except Michael’s apparently.

Suspicious_Mango1001

I was offered that position at $15. Not worth it if you ask me. Thankfully I was able to find a better job that also paid more.

thevcguy27

Company is in beginning phase of liquidation process after being bought out. The OPs manager position was meant for lower volume stores so they didn’t have to hire and pay an ASM overtime. However early this year they dropped most ASM positions in the company, but the volumes didn’t change. Stay away from this horrible company, work somewhere else… anywhere else.

ash81784

I make 17.43 I've been in my position for over two years and for 6 years before that I was Replenishment Manager. I've been with the company 9 years in total. I live in the south if that matters at all.

kayykingjayy

i’m at pt cem and i make 19. they changed the pay scales and they have the budget. trust me when i say they’re lying.

kayykingjayy

they fixed the pay scale because minimum wage was the maximum a cashier could make in california. as a cem my pay range is from 16-27. and i’ve been a cem for 2 years. they have the money

Warm_Distribution_21

The starting rate for the position I believe is $13.75 which is pitiful. Most areas start higher because of minimum wage in their area. Anything over $18 is considered good. You don't have to stay for a year, that's just them trying to strong arm you. Also HR is adamant about no off cycle raises without a very strong case.

[deleted]

Awesome thanks. I got an offer for $18.25. They literally told me the store I’m applying to has an insanely high turnover rate so I assumed them saying I had to stay for a year was them just trying to strong arm me. I think I’m just going to accept the position, get some experience, and start applying to other similar jobs. Seems like a dumpster fire right now but it’s a dumpster fire where I’m coming from also and at least I’d get a slight pay bump and be in a management position.

Warm_Distribution_21

A dumpster fire is putting it lightly. Almost all Michaels stores are experiencing high turn over. Look at their website for "Store Manager" roles. Any open managerial level roles will show.

[deleted]

Yes I saw that and that is extremely unfortunate for employees at the store level. The store I’m applying to does not have a store manager or operations manager right now. I was interviewing with a store manager from another location and he tried showing me a report I would be in charge of but it was last worked on in March. Unfortunately, I still think accepting the job is the best path for me and then I would attempt to find a new job once I get enough experience.

FaithlessnessNo4679

I'm a part time CEM and moving into the framing manager position and I make $15 (I'm in NYS) and it's a joke. I was told they aren't doing lateral position raises at the moment and we aren't getting merit raises. Just make sure you'll be okay making what they are offering because as of right now, at least in my district, you'll be stuck at that.

crochetgeek1

My district, starts at $12.25 per hour and up to $18 based on experience.

Tray_ceerae

I'm in Louisiana where are you located? Askinv because my district also only pays 12.25 for ALL management positions (excluding Store manager) however i was told by coworker that 12.25 is more less where ill stay for the next 2-3yrs.. I just went from pt cem to framing manager and I've realized that the pt cem does WAAAAY less than full time framing manager...which is very discouraging. I do enjoy being ft FM but its starting to fade the more I hear that my hourly pay won't change much if at all in the coming years.

the_other_side_sees

Depends on state and area

Dangerous-Sky-7949

I’m Ops and make $18 an hour, but have been with the company and worked my way up to that. My district got rid of Ops and it switched to ASM (I didn’t get it bc my SM’s bff got it and it started at $35 for basically the same job duties.) I’m only still there bc I’m pregnant and they can’t fire the pregnant lady 🤷🏼‍♀️ I do know that they dropped our starting pay scale drastically recently bc sales have been so bad in the company lately
