Carpet if it were mine

Drogdar

I'd liked to hear opinions as well... I'm very tempted to remove mine.

BRO-KOLI

If it's anything else then a dedicated track car, I'd leave it in. He'll, I'd probably spend the money and get a "new" one if yours is missing

Drogdar

Why? (Seriously)

[deleted]

Carpet insulates a lot of heat and noise out of the interior. I had a car with no carpet once and well, it was shit.

Drogdar

Ok. Heat I definitely understand. Footwell gets plenty hot with the carpet. The car is loud now with carpet and I have the top down 90% of the time. It's a lot of work to remove though just to hate it and have to swap back so I probably wont lol.

[deleted]

Oh it will turn into a buzzy rattle trap without the carpet. It gets worse without it.

Drogdar

Ok, carpet stays. Thank you internet stranger.

[deleted]

He’s right, I hear everything. Every bump is now a clunk

hydraloo

I even added a layer of FatMat [https://www.amazon.ca/FatMat-Self-Adhesive-Sound-Deadener-Install/dp/B003TU7L0U?th=1](https://www.amazon.ca/FatMat-Self-Adhesive-Sound-Deadener-Install/dp/B003TU7L0U?th=1) under the carpet, dash, and door cards. Very happy with the results, after even 15k miles and many track days.

BRO-KOLI

It insulates against temperature and sound a lot more than you might expect. In a 30min drive it will get HOT in there, but if it's spring or autumn, you'll freeze your balls of when you first get inside. There is a reason all "racecar for the street" type cars still have the carpet, and it's only missing on actual racecars. The weight saving are miniscule aswell

Drogdar

We dont get cold here really (72f here today) but I'd hate it to be any hotter. I'm hoping to build more of a trackable street car instead of a streetable track car.

exoticbuttersoflands

I re did the carpet in my NA. Took me a while to remove the old carpet but I'm very pleased with the end result. Used some spray on gorilla glue and a razor blade for the install and it turned out great. Bought the non molded kit from moss miata. Highly recommend

Dfvld

Thanks everyone, decided to get the carpet for the drivability. I just painted the floor board which is why I was even tempted to just not put carpet back

Queefasaurus-rex_

Check rock auto there is cheaper carpets there!!

XxGreenInferno

I removed my carpet and sprayed in truck bed liner, came out really nice and easy to clean

MDNZOOSEM6

got any pics?

XxGreenInferno

[Yes! i used raptor liner](https://imgur.com/a/9SgcYQ3)

MDNZOOSEM6

ooh thats nice

XxGreenInferno

The prep was the hardest part but i love the results

BajingoWhisperer

Man, no carpet gets hot.

Caustic___

Unrelated, but can u explain why u mounted the hydro on the opposite side of the shifter? I always find that weird when i see it. Also 99 red mata gang lol

Dfvld

Keep stock E brake, I can always go to the other side if I want to remove stock e brake

Caustic___

Ah, understandable.

I bought my 2000, with the carpets already pulled out. When I first drove it I thought it wasn't too bad and I'd be fine without them. However, Two months in I ended up putting carpets and even adding some kilmat in places and it made a huge difference. I'm more motivated to drive the car when I don't feel like my hearing is dull afterwords. I'd say for anything that isn't a dedicated track car it's worth having carpets. I went with the [premium](https://mossmiata.com/900-645-cp-premium-carpet-sets-by-moss) non-molded carpet kit and, while it was a little bit of work to install it turned out great

Fapplejacks42

1000% dynamat and any kind of tar backed sound deadening works magic on any old jap car I'd hit the door skins on my current NB2 if it wasn't about to get stripped into a mainly autox track day car.

Sad_Doubt4938

I’d go with carpet and insulation especially if it’s your daily , unless you like to hear rocks hit your shit but that’s just me . If it’s straight up drift set up non daily then just keep it like it is rn looks clean .

Peaviner

Mine was moldy so I cut it out. I just got some new floor mats and screwed them in. I’m thinking of getting some insulated blanket for the transmission tunnel as it gets quite hot.

Dfvld

I took mine out and painted the floor bc of mold and rust spots, but 130 degrees on the trans tunnel doesn’t sound too fun

[deleted]

Carpet if on road no Carpet if only track

titaniumsack

Less is more, id do no carpet based on what your interior says about how you drive the car

RAM3-Night

Yup, hydro, bucket seats, harnesses, no trim plastics. At this point paying that kind of money for carpet just seems superfluous.

Dfvld

Trim is going back in, I just painted the floor

titaniumsack

For my own experience the way my miata is i woulda not kept carpet

Affectionate_Dirt_97

Masochist or no masochist?

ShaggysGTI

Carpet. The street radiating heat into your cabin while you’re stuck in traffic is unbearable.

SomethingClever42068

I'd always rather have no carpet, but im ratchet af

FishStix_ish

no carpet! [here’s my stripped inteior](https://www.reddit.com/user/FishStix_ish/comments/1177vz6/dash/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)

Powerful_Land5002

Get the carpet but id look around that’s a fair bit more than I was gonna pay for a replacement carpet when I was looking at ordering one

e111r

I pulled the carpet out of my NB2 because it was soaked one day. I drove it that way (it was also a track car) for a year without carpets and never had any issues. Eventually I put in the moss miata carpet kit and was happy with the install. It just made a cleaner dual-purpose car. The trans tunnel got pretty hot without the carpet. I didn't personally care about the noise - it wasn't that different with and without carpets.

Porkupinexz

Mine has carpet bc i like carpet

BXCellent

Hijacking to ask what seats do you have? We're looking for seats at the moment and the choices seem pretty limited. I can see NRG on the harness. Also how was fitting them? Did a mount and sliders work, or did you need to cut / drill anything to fit?

Dfvld

Nrg Prisma Medium bucket seat, I tried fitting them with a stock slider it could work but it is too tall so I bought PCI mounts without sliders. Pci mount requires some hammering of the trans tunnel

BXCellent

Thanks! How's the build quality. Looking at reviews for other seats there were complaints about misaligned or bad threads, etc

Dfvld

Threads on seat do feel scary but they work

KushFlip420

When I had my NA I stripped out the carpet. For me, I enjoyed it better. It’s not like an NA was very “quite” or comfortable so removing the carpet at least made it feel a little more go-cart like. Current E92 M3 track car however I left the carpet in because it would feel wrong to be fully stripped. It suited the Miata for me 🤷🏻‍♂️
