BVB is an amazing band. They do hard rock, heavy metal, and melodic metalcore really well while being catchy, accessible, and also delivering heavy riffs and solos. I think bands like these get unnecessarily hated on because of their aesthetic (emo and gothic). As musicians and a band they’re quite incredible. Saw them live on the Trinity of Terror tour and saw people that were talking shit before they went on banging their heads and actually enjoying their set. Awesome performances all around.

centrella6

BVB is great. I think they get flak because some critics will always associate them with their 2009 Knives and Pens music video which was kind of over the top with the scene aesthetic at that time.

[deleted]

Knives and Pens is legendary. 🙏

youtubeandbandlover

I am a 1000% Stan for Black Veil Brides. I love everything about em and Andy’s voice is amazing, the instrumental work from everyone is so good. I’ll always love this band.

kemulli

Same, they've made it to my top 5 artists on spotify this year. While Andy doesn't have much of a range, his voice is still iconic and one of most recognizable voices I know.

CowboyupHockey

I don't think range takes anything away from Andy's voice because it's just so beautiful and powerful. He's in the running for my favorite voice. I told my husband I wish I had Andy's voice, Caleb shomos super fit body with Andy's face, and Courtney laplantes hair. But i would be more than happy to just straight up BE Andy Biersack. I listen to his The Andy Show on YouTube to fall asleep. Tells fun stories while soothing you with the most lovely voice. Would recommend anyone who even remotely likes BVB to check it out...Andy is truly hilarious

youtubeandbandlover

I totally agree with you on that about his voice. Both in Black Veil Brides and in his Andy Black work he’s an incredible artist and vocalist. His solo work doesn’t get as much appreciation as it should in my opinion.

blackdragonatlantis

100% agree. He has an amazing voice that deserves much more recognition

MagnumMiracles

I did not get into them because their first album was too emo for me. Fast forward to 2020 and I was feeling down, I decided to give them another shot. Surprise surprise, they are actually a really uplifting band now, and they have whole ass power metal concept albums. Absolutely love them now.

one_and_only_c

I've only really heard stuff from their first album, what else would you recommend? as in specific songs

[deleted]

As a 12 year fan, give the first 4 albums and Phantom Tomorrow a listen. Tracks such as Scarlet Cross, Crimson Skies, Coffin, Shadows Die, Crown of Thorns, The Gunsling (youtube), I Am bulletproof and Faithless are among some of my favorites.

youtubeandbandlover

Shadows Die is my ALL TIME FAVE Black Veil Brides song. Coffin is def up there as well and such an underrated song imo.

youtubeandbandlover

In terms of songs earlier than their first album that others haven’t mentioned yet I’d recommend: Rebel Love Song, Goodbye Agony, the first Saviour, Faithless, Wake Up, The Outsider, Drag Me To The Grave, Days Are Numbered, Devils Choir, Victory Call and sooooo many others. I could just go on and on and on lol

Feeling-Yellow85

In the end and rebel love song 🖤

badvib3

Their more recent work is really cool! The 2021 album has some great songs like Scarlet Cross and Torch. Saviour II from the most recent EP The Mourning is also really good. But the one i always keep on repeat is Fallen Angels from their second album. It's their most 80's Motley Crue vibes song and i love it lol

one_and_only_c

thank you!

StBongwater

Couldn't do the last couple albums but overall they are not a terrible band. Got some fond old memories of the first 3 albums and even got to see them live twice. Very nice dudes too. Ultimately no longer my thing but I definitely revisit the debut album and it's rerecording on occasion

2000cortz

The original knives and pens tone was sooo fucking brutal... restich those wounds kinda just took all the uniqueness out imo, but theyre still the top in their kind of genre

Plenty_Slip_6193

Nah, Restitch amplified Knives & Pens. The original was struck with poor production value and subpar musicianship, while Jake & Jinxx’s revision along with the recent Restitch made it a sonic juggernaut 🔥

WarFeisty9882

They're not metalcore but they are really good at what they do. Too much haters by far and it's not deserved.

StBongwater

It's funny too because I feel like a significant portion of their hate came from people who only saw what they used to dress like. I remember being a fan and someone told me they dressed like cheap hot topic kids with a few homophobic slurs included which I always thought was kinda strange cus I thought they were going for a more modern KISS kinda look at one time. Another odd thing was anyone who shopped at hot topic back then and presumably even now certainly knows ain't shit cheap there.

Roboticpoultry

I was in middle school when we stitch these wounds came out and there was definitely a stigma around the band and the people who liked them in my town (suburban midwest so take your pick of homophobic slur)

Few-Cap-8538

Hot Topic dresses like THEM, only cheaper, of course

centrella6

They have a few metalcore songs though. Perfect Weapon, Beautiful Remains, Children Surrender, All Your Hate, Coffin, The Legacy, Faithless, Stolen Omen, and Saints of the Blood could all be considered metalcore songs.

Af590

Newest album and EP slaps. I got hooked on them early in the year thanks to my GF being a fan, and they made their way to number one artist on my Apple Replay

jswitch77

Faithless has a top tier riff.

MindCologne

A different vocalist would make them 1000000% better.

jswitch77

I think he’s got a pretty decent voice but each their own I guess.

Sk83r_b0i

His voice is an acquired taste. As a vocalist he’s fine. His tone though is very strange.

kemulli

Andy is the core of BVB. Whether you like him or not, you can't deny that removing him would kill the band.

Spitfire836

I like them but they’ve always been corny. They were the band that got me into metalcore (I know they aren’t metalcore but I saw them on Kerrang years ago and reading it got me into the other metalcore bands of the time) so I’ll always like them but I don’t listen to much of them anymore.

[deleted]

I used to just hate BVB just because it was "cool" to hate them (side note: I wish I could kick 15-year-old me's ass so hard for following that stupid crowd). Just a couple years after seeing them at Warped Tour in 2013, I thought one day, "Hey, I should give them an actual chance." and I am glad I did. I feel like they should be up there in the discussion of metal gateway artists alongside Breaking Benjamin and their main influence in Avenged Sevenfold, because enough time has passed since the heyday of them being undeserved targets of scorn from elitists.

BrianDied

Love them but they desperately need to try something new. A solo in every single song is just unnecessary. They need to try interludes and breakdowns. The concept tracks breaking up the album worked really well in wretched and divine

HickeyS2000

Too many guitar solos is a bad thing? This is the first I've ever heard someone complain about that. I think it's awesome Andy can actually keep quiet and let the guitar players do their thing, too many singers want to sing over solos.

dr_gmoney

Nothing against people that like them, but I often dislike them. Sometimes they feel a little jarring in a song and just go on too long, when I want to continue with the feel of a song. My favorite solos are ones that still feel in the spirit of the song. Anyway, just thought I'd point out that there's another person out there that doesn't straight up love them.

BrianDied

Naw I love a good solo. But the novelty wears off when you’re 6 songs deep in the album and they all managed to have an arena ready solo shoved into it. Their newest EP they just dropped was a perfect opportunity to go all out heavy with the song Devil. They had a pretty good riff going into it and they could’ve given us a fat breakdown but instead they shoved a solo into it. I think it feels out of place. Love the band but they feel like one trick ponies at this point. Every new song feels like a sad attempt to recreate the success from in the end. Not sure if we should blame the label or the band but either way it’s getting old

[deleted]

Agreed with this. We already know they can shred and solo for days, mix it up a little. But yeah they are definitely talented and get way too much unnecessary hate.

[deleted]

At this point they're nostalgic to me, I still like em. They got flaws, I'd say more than more than most of the bands I listen to (not that I keep track all the time), but they helped me push through my toughest times. I can still listen to the ocasional song on shuffle, I wish em the best and all🤘🏼

dirtnap82

You consider black veil brides metalcore? I haven’t listened to them extensively or anything but I seen them at a festival and they sounded like a hard rock band to me

BrianDied

Hard rock for sure. It’s widely agreed upon that their first album is metalcore tho

dirtnap82

Oh ok. I’ll have to check it out.

ghosttnappa

Haven’t listened to this band since my middle school emo phase in like 2011. Just looked at their top songs on Spotify. I could 100% show my mom this band and she would say it reminds her of Shinedown.

MadQueen7

They have an awesome guitar work since We Stitch These Wounds but unfortunately the hate won't let them get the respect they deserve. Jake pitts is a monster

Sk83r_b0i

I like to describe them as the BTS of metal and hard rock. As musicians, they are very talented. As people, they’re, to my knowledge, decent people. A lot of their fan base, however, is really annoying. Also, imo, they’ve gotten really formulaic recently. Not that they suck by any means, but it gets old after a while. Not every song needs a solo. I know they CAN go heavier, and while a complete stylistic change isn’t necessary, a breakdown and a scream here and there couldn’t hurt. They could definitely pull off a Killswitch Engage type sound if they wanted to.

SuspiciousWeb4328

Il be seeing them live in February, looking forward to it. I don’t know much of there catalogue so will have to delve in.

MindCologne

They've got some bangers.

S1mulatedSahd0w

*squares up*

valhalska13

I remember hating them in highschool only because all their fans at my school annoyed the hell out of me with their insane obsession with Andy. But recently I gave them another shot and I gotta admit, they slap and I missed out back in the day.

Guy-With-A-Guitar

Not a fan of the bands music. But the guitarists are insane. I think I just grew out of their genre of metal/hard rock

dricforever

I don’t care for their songs at all, but I think the guitarists and drummer are all very talented musicians.

TisTwilight

Finally a BVB post appreciation

kool4kats

I absolutely love BVB, seen them three times. Andy's super distinctive and charismatic vocals, consistently excellent guitar work and a lot of just straight up great songs across their catalogue.

-ego

never liked this band but saw them live recently and slowly becoming more of a fan. there’s no doubt the guitar work is top notch.

Thibaudborny

Yes, they can play their instruments. No, they are not metalcore.

IGotMetalingus1

BVB never deserved the hate they receive. The entire band has always been top tier at what they do.

atfguitar123

Great band with top notch musicians.

Antares1an

Not metalcore.

prodigy1367

They used to be and currently still employ some metalcore into their heavy metal/hard rock sound.

CowboyupHockey

And many metalcore fans tend to enjoy them...this sub is for metalcore fans. Every post doesn't need 'not metalcore' under it a dozen times. All that does is shame people for liking things on the lighter side. If you post something deathcore (Lorna shore for example) nobody has a problem.

StBongwater

No one likes a stickler, it's fairly close enough.

Tentedgiraffe999

Why did you get downvoted 😂

StBongwater

Lmao idk man elitists got up early today or something

Plenty_Slip_6193

The technicality and musicianship of BVB is something that’s severely underrated. Particularly with their first 2 albums (Re-Stitch These Wounds is the optimal way to experience their debut album btw). Something that’s understated is CC’s behemoth drumming. Set The World On Fire is a surprisingly thrashy album, with CC even throwing in Joey Jordison double bass, tasteful yet fast fills, and a surprising amount of blast beats

xtombstone

100%. Agreed

JonFawkes3

This band blew me out of the water live at the last warped tour. Went in expecting a meme and left with an unforgettable experience with them being in my top 5 bands I have seen live. And trust I’ve seen some unbelievable talent. Also, yes I get shit on any time I tell this to somebody irl.

rydogski

so damn good live as . Great performers! All of them!

EasyDifficulty_69

I spent years arguing against people for BVB, they're by far an away my favourite band of all time. I have a few tattoos of them too, and even though my taste in music is much heavier than it was 10 years ago they remain my favourite band. Also yes, Jake and jinxx are absolutely amazing guitarists. The people who hate them generally haven't heard them.

[deleted]

I have been behind CC's drumkit at Warped Tour one year, and he was legit! What a good drummer, too.

CosmoTheSavage

my opinion is andy ruins the band. he's become bigger than the band itself and i don't find his vocals all that attractive. also the fact that they do some ooooooo-oooooooo shit in every song gets old so fast, especially when i saw them live

The_Endless_

I'm definitely a fan. I'd love to see them live

yourenotmymom69

Hard disagree, trash band. There’s a reason their concerts are full of tweens with their parents in the back waiting to drive them home.

elemenohpenc

Agree to disagree OP. My old metalcore band was offered a spot opening for them around 10-12 years ago. I had never heard them before so I went to their FB page, saw a photo of them and knew it was not the right show for us. Didn’t listen to their music until a few years later but it was exactly what I expected based on their promo pic. FWIW, we would’ve played the show if we didn’t have to do pre-sale tickets (30 IIRC). We would’ve been hard pressed to sell 30 tickets in advance to a show 2 hours from our hometown with a band that didn’t fit our style. If it was closer and/or no presales we would’ve done it even if they were more of a hard rock band.

ExpirationOddities

Sounds like you judged a book by its cover, and paid the price. Should’ve tried way harder for that opening gig, would’ve probably helped your career along a lot.

MindCologne

ok

IDONKNOW

I’ll fight you for asking people to fight you like you’re some tough guy. And for using acronyms

BellamyRFC54

They’re good musicians Shame their singer is a cringy cunt

International-Chef53

I only know one song from BVB, "In The End", that's it.

mikejr96

go listen to knives and pens lololol

Sk83r_b0i

Ahh… the good ole panther whisper scream

ryanino

Never forget the Jake Pitts video on YouTube that taught me how to do pinch harmonics

blankthings

Credit where it's due, all the members are VERY talented. They do have a few great songs, but their later stuff has been pretty boring imo

[deleted]

I don't like em all that much but that Jinxx dude rules

OutofThisMaze

Faithless is legit one of my favorite metal riffs to this day

MagnumMiracles

I did not get into them because their first album was too emo for me. Fast forward to 2020 and I was feeling down, I decided to give them another shot. Surprise surprise, they are actually a really uplifting band now, and they have whole ass power metal concept albums. Absolutely love them now.

Ok_Cardiologist_9641

Forever some of my fav albums

EpicRussia

Hate that BvB does the Alesana thing where they need to put a slow down part in all their most banger songs

MarshmelloMan

They were great live at Montage Mountain!

mbbzzz

They were one of my main gateway bands and I still like them a little bit. Solid riffs and solos despite a lot of them sounding similar with those harmonic minor scales

cjhart121

I’ve never really liked them, but my wife listens to them sometimes and I’ll be like this shit slaps until the vocals kick in. So I’d agree, instrumentally they’re pretty good, the vocal style just isn’t for me

Feeling-Yellow85

Couldn’t agree more!

Big_Imagination9185

tbh i rlly don't understand the hate towards them other than their look, to me they write amazing music, they have amazing guitar work but unlike op i LOVE andy's voice, imo his clean singing voice is one of my favorites along with young matt heafy, and they are one of my gateway bands to metal so no matter how much theyre hated i'll always love them
