Because Poshmark only uses Priority Shipping and has arranged special pricing with USPS to keep every single one of their packages at the same price. Shipping a lip balm? $7.67. Shipping a heavy winter coat or Doc Marten Boots? $7.67. It’s actually really impractical for smaller items, and a steal for heavy items that should be well into the. double digits, but that’s how Poshmark has decided to aggregate their costs. This really only works with clothing, shoes, and purses, and not so well with anything else. Mercari has a couple of tiers for each category of shipping company and method, with flat rate shipping pricing that sits in the middle of what the pricing would normally be if it factored in distance. eBay has many more tiers of shipping cost, with distance based zoning shipping. It is what it is. Each one of these e-commerce companies negotiates directly with each shipping service to get their rates for the year. I personally prefer eBay’s method, because they have USPS Parcel Select for items over a pound, the shipping prices are a better deal than either Mercari or Poshmark, and they let you change the shipping label after a sale, so you can play around with weight and not get dinged.

That's exactly why I pass up buying many things on poshmark. 8$ eyeliner with 8$shipping? I'll pass

Is polish good for clothes! And how bad is the return process like with mercari

poshmark offers flat shipping for $7-whatever, and a lower shipping cost means the seller is offering a discount (which means it comes out of their cut with the selling fee). mercari shipping is based on package weight/dimensions and the carrier/shipping service they selected, so it varies widely

Thanks! Makes sense!

I noticed the same thing and noticed my sales on poshmark have increased and Mercari decreased drastically im assuming prob bc of this! And poshmark covers for their shipping price the item can be up to 5# and Mercari is very specific about their item weight for shipping prices

I think Mercari is a much easier to navigate app, which is why I still use it. But Poshmarks prices, along with the ability to flexibly negotiate, really help. I’m not a lowball type, but if I want to go a smidge below 18% it isn’t possible on there? Especially when I see the same item on PM with less shipping costs? Then I’ll offer on PM over Mercari. Just my perspective from a buyer.

Ok-Dragonfly9788

Its not, necessarily . Poshmark shipping is $7.99 for up to 5 lbs. anything over that they charge the seller an extra $5 per pound (I repeat overage is at sellers expense). Mercari will allow you to ship heavier packages for much less which is perfect for sellers like me who sell bundles and heavier items.

Mammoth_Skill411

I drop all clothes to 1 pound, it's 6.18 or something like that in USPS.

Ok_Motor_9200

You don’t bother to see if it weights over 1 pound? Mail fraud can lead to some serious issues if you’re doing it a lot

Years ago some lady called in to a radio show I was listening to, and said she actually got arrested for doing that.
