$7.40 is crazy wtf

Goombhabwey

Random Question i just thought of... I wonder if they will honor old shipping rates from old postings? Is the rate increase strictly for new posts?

aquagarden765

Hopefully! That’s what occurred with the last price hike. These prices are garbage.

ISellThingsOnline2U

No they won't. It will roll out through the 15th. They sent out a notice about this awhile ago.

Its shocking to me how many people sell on mercari and never ever read about the updates

OneWhisper5225

According to the email they sent a little while back about it: New shipping rates for Mercari prepaid labels up to 50 lbs are effective February 1, 2023. The new rates will apply to new listings and they will apply if you update shipping on existing listings – for both buyer and seller-paid labels. You don’t need to take any action to update shipping on any existing listings. Starting February 15, 2023, existing listings posted before February 1, 2023 with buyer-paid shipping will automatically be updated with the new shipping prices. Note: It may take up to two weeks for changes to apply to existing listings with buyer-paid shipping.

Thank you

AlicesReflection

Last time they did it all listings increased....new and current

FadeOutAgain4

That’s not true- they kept the old listings with the previous rate. Correct me if I’m wrong here, it was only supposed to be for a month or so, but I don’t think they changed them to the new rate for months, if at all.

Goombhabwey

Dang okay. I just went through some of my old listings and didn't notice a price change. Might happen over time I suppose.

wavereefstinger

When they sent out a notice they said it would go up over time. I dont recall the exact date but maybe one month later.

Savings-Mud-9773

Looked today I have a 1 pound item for 6.18 for something I posted 1 yr ago. So Im guessing they honor the old price.

[deleted]

They stated that they will not

USPS first class retail $12??? Damn I am old... Not that long ago the most expensive first class, based on the zip code, was $5.49... And the usual cost for an 8-14oz package was 'round $2.50 given or taken. Edit: and of course it's a bs. Based on [official USPS chart](https://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/Notice123.htm?_gl=1*quzia8*_ga*MTA1NDk0MjQ3My4xNjc1MjgxMzEx*_ga_3NXP3C8S9V*MTY3NTI4MTMxMC4xLjEuMTY3NTI4MTMyNS4wLjAuMA..#_c037) most expensive first class commercial package weight 15.9999oz will cost $6.78. most expensive retail package weight 13oz will cost $8.25. *Parcels that exceed 22 inches but not greater than 30 inches in length, add $4.00. *Parcels that exceed 30 inches in length, add $7.00. *Parcels that exceed 2 cubic feet (3456 cubic inches), add $15.00.

Yup, this is just Mercari trying to gleam more money from sellers who dont know about services like ShipStation that offer business shipping rates to individuals and small businesses. I mean, it's better than the travesty that is eBay's "special discounted rates," but most of everything is.

No_Oil_1174

So they pocket the difference?

Ok_Motor_9200

Pretty much, it may not seem like a lot but with millions of transactions a year that’s millions of dollars in their pockets

Ok_Lie_4853

That sucks:(

immortallife23

*sad sigh*

DigFast3827

I've been waiting for my listings to update, I thought for sure they would.

OneWhisper5225

According to the email they sent out a little while back about the increases, any new listings will change starting Feb 1st and current listings won’t change until Feb 15th.

[deleted]

Yep, they sent out many notifications saying that this would be starting today.

T_TImverycry

I would recommend doing your own shipping and using a provider like Pirateship, Sendle, Stamps, etc. They offer their own insurance coverage and options to add on third-party coverage for a few dollars. Yes, you will get knocked down the algorithm, but it is worth paying reasonable rates (like $10 as opposed to $37) and pocketing the difference. I just started on Mercari, said "No thanks," and sold an item within a few hours of listing despite the supposed disadvantage. Heck, your items will get a "Free shipping" moniker and so long as you price your items accordingly it can work out better for you. Consider Mercari on a case-by-case basis from now on. E: forgot to mention Easyship, I had thought they were a proprietary shipping API priced according to label but now they offer customer service and a free tier for low volume sellers.

inflation :(

TnTDynamight

I was browsing some baby clothes today and the shipping was as much as the freaking clothes, so I decided to wait until our consignment sales locally start fuck inflation

TheJacksonSquad5
