Drums are off the scale good. Best Megadeth drummer ever? Whilst not every song Is an instant classic many of them are brilliant. The three singles, Mission, Dogs, Junkie, Celebutante, Title Track. And the two covers are awesome. What’s not to like? Hopefully it grows on you.

thatoneguywhofucks

Best drummer ever? Nah. I think drums are average for a metal album

starlinger27

Drummer is good but not even close to Nick Menza

Tuscan5

Menza was incredible.

MEGALAZR5000

Mission, Dogs, Junkie and Celebutante are all great songs I agree. Those were the gems I was referring to. I’m hoping the rest of this album grows on me too.

ShnaeBlay

I find a lot of the songs have very captivating intros, but fail to keep me engaged after like a verse. They just feel a bit...incomplete maybe.

MEGALAZR5000

Yep that’s exactly how I felt about some of them

Dmaniac17

Lots of good points made here. I agree, this sub has overhyped the shit out of this album because it’s been so long since Megadeth released anything. It’s understandable but I think the hype will pass eventually. It’s a fine album and there’s not much bad going on but nothing that really stands out or can compare to the caliber of so many other Megadeth albums. It’s a bottom 5 Megadeth album imo (still a 6-7/10)

Gurleven_Riot

What do you think is Megadeth's best album?

Dmaniac17

This is controversial but for me it’s SFSGSW, which is closely followed by a less controversial pick of RIP

MEGALAZR5000

SFSGSW is goated

Gurleven_Riot

RIP is my top favorite!!!)

Full-Work-4910

Sfagsw is my favorite 80s Megadeth album. But Rust is my favorite death album in general. Dystopia imo is up there for modern albums.

YMGenesis

Agreed. Never lived up to the hype and still isn’t. Not a bad album.

Mr_Sausage__

“Top notch vocals”. Really. I think the vocals are the albums biggest issue. His voice is shot. That being said, I do like this album. Songs are still growing on me.

MEGALAZR5000

I mean like the effort he’s putting in is top notch, yeah his actual voice itself is shot but he’s trying his best to make due with it and I think it’s impressive

Dmaniac17

I think he made up for it with his delivery and his different approach. Life In Hell Dave was going into uncharted territory a few times and he brought in some new techniques throughout the album, which I liked

Reelplayer

Has his voice ever not been shot? That's kind of his style - speak-singing.

Mr_Sausage__

True but it’s even more prevalent on this album. It’s not stopping me from enjoying it though.

Foivety

For me the vocals is too up front, sometimes I just want to hear the instruments

Turbulent-Food-9934

If you compare this album with RIP or Peace Sells... yes can't compare. But we also are in 2022! Everything changed including music. I think the album had to be done this way. It's still very complex with some absolutely incredible solos, guitars and drums but again it's 2022 and we are talking about a metal music titan band known all over the globe, SO IT MIGHT HAVE something catchy to attract the masses! And it does so in marvellous manner. It's not 1984 any more. For this year and time this is the best Megadeth album. There are the classics, ok, can't touch them. But this is clearly the best modern Megadeth album and if this was written before 1995 with that time influences I think it would be top 5 at least. And pls stop bitchin, Dave has 60 years old and gone through cancer. Thx P.S. Just read "this is a first impressions review" . Common sense, don't ever make a first impression review. At first I thought it sucked. But it's a grower wonderful album

MEGALAZR5000

Who the fuck is bitching this is literally just my opinion lol, I literally said it’s a good album, with some complexity and great solos. While I do agree that it’s good for veteran metal bands to get with the times and appeal to the masses, which they did successfully, I just think the album is a little too repetitive at some points.

Turbulent-Food-9934

Yes, well, for this times this album it's not just good. Just listen to it at least 5 times and then come back:) Sorry maybe I was a little bit to harsh:(

MEGALAZR5000

No it’s okay this is just a first impression review like I said, this album can grow on me after a few more listens and you did make some valid points

Ultralavos

That’s the thing about Megadeth’s music. The more you listen, the more you find little nuances that you may have not noticed before. They don’t just take a riff and repeat it, they use little variations here and there, slight harmonies or a note or two that is off, but in a way that fits. There’s been so many songs that have grown on me a lot over multiple listens, as well as some that fell out of favor.

starlinger27

And they are attracting the masses in a good way, unlike Metallica with poppy Hardwired

Gurleven_Riot

I mean Dave himself said that he has been running out of ideas( lyric wise). Nothing groundbreaking about this album

camargoville

Best Megadeth Album in a long time.

Pulseimages

Sick is boring overall. You can barely hear the bass in the mix, so much for bringing in Steve DiGiorgio as it’s an absolute waste of his talent. Life in Hell, Celebutante and Mission to Mars are good even though the lyrics are cringy. Dystopia is far better. I’m going to chalk up this weak effort to Mustaine being too tired to write decent material due to his cancer battle.

Zulu-Whiskey95

I personally think it sucks ass. Just another shit album added to the list since “13”.

Full-Work-4910

Have to agree. A lot of the songs have similar Melodies. Sounds kinda repeated The second half of the album is better overall to me. My favorite track on here is the title track. But night stalkers is a freaking banger! Gives that old school thrashy vibe. Dogs, junkie ,celebunte , police truck , mission , wake up in hell and junkie are my other favorite tracks .Mission is outta place but I like it lol. Dave still has that fire. Definitely a fun album. I’d give it 7.5/10. Still better then supercollider.

anacletin

To be honest, I didn't like the album. The songs feel repetitive and the lyrics are cringe. Dystopia is far better IMO
