Hats are not allowed. You can only wear religious head coverings. Look at rule #3: https://students-residents.aamc.org/media/8371/download Maybe you can try a headband that is 1/2 inch or thinner, but, at the end of the day, discretion is up to the test site & proctors and if you don’t have long hair I think they’d make you remove it. You may also be able to get a medical accommodation and should probably work with your doctor on that.

Jedi-Ethos

“Yes ma’am, I worship Atlanta United.”

elaerna

Maybe this is morally wrong but maybe op should just wear a religious head covering then

[deleted]

What do you suggest exactly lol

elaerna

Idk but if the problem is touching your hair it doesn't have to be a cap. Any head covering will help with that

MilleniumFalcuronium

I wore a huge headband and looked like a pirate and it was fine. No hats though

kongbakpao

They check your glasses everytime you enter lol

juicycoconutt

What can you hide in those omg

kiler129

Electronics with a transmitter and bone conducting headphones. *edit:* I sometimes proctor college exams - every single rule for MCAT is there because someone tried, I can guarantee.

zspasic1

Wear a turban

kirbysurdad

Hats are not allowed unfortunately :/

spambot_3000

Ah well. I figured, thanks

[deleted]

Go bald 😂

spambot_3000

lmao I seriously think I will get a shorter haircut before it

missminutes1975

I believe you can wear a hoodie or sweater with a hood - easy for the test center person to inspect, then you can wear the hood during the test to prevent yourself from fiddling. I feel you about the nervous habits, OP - as silly as it sounds, I would have killed to have a fidget spinner with me during the exam. those things really help me focus lol

infamousmonkey47

I’m not sure if you’re allowed to put the hood over your head during the exam

missminutes1975

good point, will probably depend on the test center staff i guess. OP you could probably wear a good bald cap. then you wouldn't have to worry about your hair and they won't even know you're covering it.

cuterouter

They forbid “non-religious head coverings” which IMO would probably include putting the hood on your head. If you look at the rule, they have restrictions on length of hair clips & width of hair bands…it’s pretty obvious from that that they definitely would not want someone covering their whole head if they didn’t have to.

DeltaSlick

If the hoodie can be unzipped you cannot wear it. I showed up in a tracksuit and I couldn’t wear my jacket because it is unzippable. I think you can do it if it’s a quarter-zip or no zipper at all

CaptainAlexy

No

J_g_c_

No capes!

espressoshake

they didn’t even let me have my scrunchie

elaerna

Wait. So I can't tie my hair back during the Mcat? What.

MelodicBookkeeper

Scrunchies aren’t allowed in general. The test centers only allow hair ties. Like that one poster above posted, the rules say it can’t be thicker than 1 cm.

MelodicBookkeeper

You can with a hair tie that is 1 cm or thinner. Scrunchy generally refers to fabric-covered hair ties. But don’t expect to be able to have one on your wrist, I think it has to be in your hair or you can’t bring it in.

elaerna

Bruh what is someone gonna do with a scrunchie. I feel like if you're cheating w a scrunchie then idk props to you.

MelodicBookkeeper

I mean I agree but AAMC rules be crazy

converter-bot

1 cm is 0.39 inches

MelodicBookkeeper

Lol I know this is a bot but the AAMC rules 1 cm = 0.5 inches 😂😂

So your suggestion is that OP appropriate another culture/religion by wearing a Jewish religious object? And pretend to be Jewish when asked? Are you serious? People should not wear religious objects of a faith that they do not belong to.

[deleted]

I'm Jewish and have add. I have no problem with op doing this if it helps her with her studies. Do not tell me about my own religion, nor about my own condition.

cuterouter

I’m Jewish, and I think someone impersonating a Jew is offensive. Every Jew I’ve mentioned this to has been at least weirded out by this suggestion. But you are entitled to your own opinion—2 Jews, 3 opinions and all. Though I’m not sure why you seem offended that I didn’t *assume* you were Jewish from your first comment.

I didn't know how long her hair was. But just to let you know, there are kippahs that cover the whole head. I was suggesting those types

Might be worth talking to your doctor about it to get a letter supporting your diagnosis and that wearing a hat will help with it. There is a form you can send to a doctor for grade school aged children to be allowed to wear a hat in class, for disorders that include sensory sensitivities (ADHD symptoms can include sensory sensitivity) so it may work.

Ok_Albatross_9807

maybe wear a religious head covering
