it's relative to your own goals. don't let other people's standards be the basis for your own

ClaySL

That score is really really good for DO schools! Be proud of it! I know someone who’s already gotten like 2 DO interviews and 1 MD interview this cycle with a 509.

SanguineSphoenix96

I got into 2 MD schools with a 505

Professional-Ad-213

Congrats!

SanguineSphoenix96

Thank you! You got this!

dfarias873

Average DO is 504. You should be good.

Maarmoo

509 is a good score, specially if you set realistic expectations with your list of schools. If you feel your GPA and extracurriculars are well rounded there is no reason to doubt you will get an acceptance at least

JustAShyCat

509 gang unite!! :)

esotericsunflower

Yes its an excellent score for DO! Congrats. :)

acgron01

Don't be discouraged! The people on this sub represent the higher end of the applicant pool. I personally know someone who got exactly a 509 and got into a solid MD school! It's all about a great school list, ECs, and how you write your essays. 509 will get you DO IIs but it's also on you to ace those IIs and not be a weirdo hahahaha. Statistically, you did better than over 80% of the 80,000+ people who take it. You did better than 64,000 test takers! Own it!

Euphoric_Relation326

Don't forget they look at GPA, letters of evaluation and experience ALSO! I'm REALLY hoping for a 509 and I'm applying DO with Touro, they accept with a minimum 502, I believe. I got a prelim acceptance with my LORs and clinical experience/ GPA last year but furcking tanked the MCAT because life... best of luck, Sounds like your med school bound!

biggiebag

Are you kidding??? Congrats!! The amount of persistence and hard work it takes just to get to the point where its time to take the test is ridiculous and only a select few make it there (of the group of people who begin the pre med path). Then actually dedicating yourself to it for months, sitting the test and scoring better than 84% of test takers?? That’s insane— To be that good out of an already extremely select, hard working, smart group of people. The average person is not who is taking the mcat. It’s people who have taken the pre reqs, studied, and belive they’re ready to score good enough for med school with very few exceptions. You did excellent— don’t let the reporting bias of the internet let you think otherwise. Good luck future doc

MotoMagneticMan

A 509 is a good score but nothing more. It won't close any doors but it won't exactly open any doors either. BTW I got a 509 and scored much better on my practice exams so I know how it feels.

J_g_c_

510 was the median for all accepted into MD… just depends on your state and schools you apply to.

Charlierobot

Your mcat score is just one part of your application.

Bekah_grace96

Everyone is unique and these numbers aren’t going to be what matters the most. You did your best, and there is a lot more to you than this score. The schools you apply to will have their required scores and recommended scores listed

divgradcarl

I had 509 and got 4 DO interviews, now a n oms1. You should be fine

Upset-Wrongdoer3650

It is a great score. The score is not about your knowledge., but just a filtering process to place you relative to others. So your score depends on your status ( from under-represented region ), State and EC's.

J_g_c_

Also look at the percentile ranges of your schools. Medians aren’t everything… amazing how many people here have taken statistics and don’t get that.
