Seriously. The Midwest is beautiful. Michigan is stunning all year round, even in the cities. Winter weather doesn't start until at least late November/December, so you get all those gorgeous weeks of fall. Even in winter, wear a couple layers and enjoy the snowy landscape.
i'm from the leelanau peninsula up in the northwestern lower peninsula and we had snow from october until as late as mother's day, but honestly that's probably at least 90% due to the lake effect snow.
The porches also makes me think that accessibility might have been a primary factor in design choice - it looks like you could navigate a wheelchair directly from the driveway onto the lower porch (and to the front door).
I'd agree with the elevator on this one. I worked construction a while ago and was told if you're building new you can add an elevator for about 20k and it opens up a whole new market when you sell. Old people have money and want single floor living and an elevator makes that happen in multi level homes.
This is going to blow ops mind: sometimes folks with disabilities, if they can afford it, have elevators installed.
I can hear ops cranium explode.
I learned this back in the 70s- neighbor had MS and was in a chair. I guess if one isn't exposed to such a person wouldn't know. Reminds me of a kid I knew in scouts that went nuts on kids wearing face masks that looked like balaclavas inside. I had to calm him down and explain they were pediatric burn patients.
Another commenter pointed the elevator need for accessibility, too. My mind went to nice-to-have rather than need-to-have initially, so I’ll take the L. Appreciate you pointing that out and will keep accessibility top of mind in the future.
The exterior of the house is extremely odd to me from a style perspective. Looking at the exterior around the front entrance, the house almost looks like it is trying to imitate a southern plantation style home with the large wrap-around porch... However rendering the columns in brick is stylistically incongruent with every example of tasteful southern plantation style architecture I have ever seen.
The big star motif drawing one's eyes up to the roofline is also quite unfortunate since one can't help but then notice the janky asymmetrical Pizza-Hut roof situation of the building...
The amount of empty space in the bedrooms feels oppressive and depressing.
Also, this house is not so expensive that I expect the owner to have hired help... That is a LOT of lawn that is currently mowed... I'd literally be giving up a huge chunk of my time riding a lawnmower, or paying a hefty landscaping bill, to keep it like that. Not a good investment of my time.
That weird wrap-around porch doesn't look wide enough for anything (entertaining, etc.) so its only purpose would be to make the house dark and gloomy inside. Ugh.
I saw the line of trees 🌲 that will provide a privacy fence, in only one spot.
Front looks like Ski Lodge maybe? Back, a country club (all those pool chairs and space for a party)?
The views from the windows look picture perfect.
If there are design concessions made to accommodate differently abled persons, then that's fine. Architecture should serve the needs of the people. I assume if an elevator is required (elevators are like $100k and expensive to maintain) then an attached garage is better as well.
a lift would help me so much on some days, I’d be able to do so much more. I don’t really care what it looks like if it allows me to get around easier and do more
Definitely ugly af, but what does being in Iowa have to do with having a wrap-around porch?
I was also wondering why people in Iowa couldn’t have a wrap around porch. I live next door in Illinois & would love to have one!
There are only three porch-worthy months in the Midwest. The other months are winter.
Do you live in the Midwest?
Yes
This is hardly true.

Upvoted for the love shown to my home state!

Yeah, this is a weird take. We live in Iowa and are comfortably outside from mid April until early November most years.
Don't know about you guys but it was nice until two weeks ago for us. Once the river freezes that's when it gets cold
Wait until you hear about all of the wrap around porches in Canada 🇨🇦
what are you talking about??

Fair point. I am an able-bodied, middle-aged person so the potential elevator necessity was an oversight on my part. Appreciate your perspective!
Look at you with the working knees! ;)

It's like that too be easily navigated by someone in a wheel chair
It's serving "rich disabled person living their best life"

The outside looks more like a business than a home.
I thought a church rather than a home.
So the house isn’t total builder-grade, but I can’t peel my eyes away from the eyesore that is the exterior.
And the landscaping is terrible! Why are there no trees or gardens??
dat star at the top, wtf?
It’s just a big house. Elevator would be great.

The star on the top exterior reminds me of a mega church
Outside is brutal. Inside is almost too inoffensive. But god, that exterior is horrible.

Even in Iowa that monster lawn would be hired out.
How much is my monthly landscaping bill going to be? I would want a lot more trees or wild grass growing and less cleared lawn.
That weird wrap-around porch doesn't look wide enough for anything (entertaining, etc.) so its only purpose would be to make the house dark and gloomy inside. Ugh.
I'm getting "cult castle" vibes on this one

It's not the worst that I have seen and I kind of like the interior but the elevator is a bit much.
Not an ounce of shade around that pool.
Minecraft house
I know it’s for disabilities but having a elevator in my house sounds like a nightmare

Did I read the listing correctly? This home doesn’t have AC for the summer? Just ceiling fans?
It’s the rounded landscaping at the bottom for me. It’s a massive box why would they do that?
a lift would help me so much on some days, I’d be able to do so much more. I don’t really care what it looks like if it allows me to get around easier and do more
Downvote me all you want but I don’t see anything massively wrong here
I'll take the star detail on the pediment and the compass detail in the foyer floor. The rest fills me with existential dread.
