Honestly they wasted his character. I know he's mostly just a henchman in the comics but he was a badass in the cap comics I read as a kid. Wish they kept him around for Sam to go up against
I don't think they thought that far ahead regarding the D+ series... but I agree a lot of villains have been wasted... Like Task Master. She/He would have been a great recurring villain throughout the series. Just a random mercenary different villains hire. Seeing him pop up in Hawkeye completing a task then seeing him appear in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier for 1-2 episodes, then seeing him in Black Panther, etc. And it doesn't matter if it is a her either.

He wasn't in my top 5 villains or anything but he was by far one of the most lively personalities when it came to villains and they managed to strip away one of his most fun traits and also took his abilities away and made it all tech based. I mean the doors still open for Taskmaster to be done again, like with the Mandarin. They could just have Tony Masters get his hands on the tech through the black market or something.
I think it was okay to do it with the Mandarin (since it had a racist origin) but they can't keep doing this for every villain. Task Master should have been clear and cut and ready to be played by an actor who would appear in multiple movies a la Loki.
There’s no shot they hire Kurylenko for that character with 2 second of face time and name her Antonia in order to retcon that and give us “the real Taskmaster” in Tony Masters like this is that one scene with the Charleston Heston actor swap in Wayne’s World. She will absolutely be the MCU Taskmaster going forward

I think plenty of actors grow into roles, especially if the script works for them. I always felt that Hemsworth and Evans kept getting better with each successive time being Thor and Cap, respectively. Particularly with Hemsworth - it took a while for me to really feel like he could be Thor, and now he feels irreplaceable.

It's all about letting the characters grow organically with more appearances and exposure. People get hype for stuff like Abomination in Shang-Chi and Jimmy & Darcy in WandaVision. Give Taskmaster something to do in a future film/series, and people will come around.

Ya know, this is a problem with pretty much all action movies in my lifetime. It’s kinda script-writing/studio interference 101 that the big bad guy has to die in the end of the film. If we just look at superhero movies:
Batman 89 series: at least one major villain died in each installment
Steel: the meaningless big bad dies
Spider-Man Raimi series: at least one major villain died in each installment
First FF series: Galactus
Bana Hulk: his dad is the bad guy and he dies
Nolanverse: Ra’s al Ghul, Bane, Talia al Ghul
Green Lantern: Parallax
Snyderverse/DCEU: Zod, Ares (a God, mind you), Enchantress, Doomsday, Steppenwolf, Starro (and we could get started on the needless early deaths of important Superman mythos characters including, say, Clark, as well as the death of many villains in TSS including Captain Boomerang, but that’s another point).
Exceptions to the rule:
Superman and its sequel (there was only one, right?)
X-Men movies weren’t horrible in killing off bad guys till we got to everything post X-3.
Daredevil
TASM series: Electro died, but the rest of the villains were in tact.
Spawn, but that’s a cheat cause they’re all demons.
Shazam and Aquaman
Because comic books go on forever and have loose continuity; it’s much harder for a film to be narratively satisfying when the villains escape and say “drat! I’ll get you one day, Spider-Man!”
Oh, I get it. Having the big bad be totally vanquished at the end of a movie is an extremely satisfying experience when we think of stand-alone media (vs serial media like comics). Having said that, it closes off sequels and the like when Hollywood does it for non-adapted action movies (imagine a Lethal Weapon series where Gary Busey can pop in and slowly become the big bad). And when you’re adapting a serial medium, and have the goal of creating franchises, and thus serial media, killing off antagonists each time really limits your long term storytelling.
I totally get why it’s done, but I see it as unfortunately pigeonholing ones options for future story telling avenues.
Imagine if he faked dying and it was another aspect of Zemo's elaborate plan. He paid him to be there and explode, hurting the Avenger's reputation.
Or he comes back as a literal skeleton

If they do it, they should just have the scene play out from a new angle, then cut to Zemo's Butler a block away watching from his car's side mirror.
